What is The Undergarden?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide
The Undergarden adds a dark, subterranean dimension deep below the bedrock of the Overworld. Its plants have adapted to the gloom and can grow anywhere, no light needed. The creatures that live there are plagued by the invasive Rotspawn, monsters that come from a chaotic, mysterious realm.[1]
This pack includes The Undergarden 0.9.8. It is a good fit if you want a whole new dimension to explore, build in and survive in, beyond the usual Overworld, Nether and End loop.[1][2]
What you get
- 15 biomes and over 10 unique entities to discover.[1]
- Ores that have special properties when made into tools and weapons.[1]
- 4 special potion effects and 1 dungeon.[1]
- Over 10 advancements to guide you on your journey, plus over 10 music tracks.[1]
Getting in
First you craft a Catalyst. Then you build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal out of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks. Light the portal by right-clicking the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst. Bricks derived from the Undergarden work for the frame too.[1]
Unverified Where the Undergarden fits in this pack's progression is unconfirmed. The sources do not show it on the ATM Star path, and they show no quests for it. There is also no in-jar guidebook to check, so the pack's recipes and config changes for this mod are not covered here.
How do you get started with The Undergarden?
5 parts
The Undergarden is a dark, subterranean world deep below the bedrock of the Overworld. The plants there grow anywhere regardless of light, strange creatures call it home, and the invasive Rotspawn plague the place. Getting in and getting geared is a short chain of crafts, so here's the order to do them in.[1]
Step one: craft a Catalyst
Everything starts with the Catalyst, the key item that opens the portal. Heads up: this pack changed the Catalyst recipe from the mod's default, so use the grid below rather than any tutorial you've seen elsewhere.[1][3]

Step two: build and light the portal
- Build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal using Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks.[1]
- Right click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to activate the portal.[1]
- You can also use bricks derived from the Undergarden to build the portal, which is handy once you're mining down there.[1]
Step three: light and a bed
It's dark down there, so sort out light early. A Cloggrum Lantern is an easy craft once you've smelted a little cloggrum, and Ditchbulb Paste is another cheap early craft from what grows around you.[1][3]

Recipe id: undergarden:cloggrum_lantern
The Depthrock Bed is the local alternative to a vanilla bed, built entirely from things you can gather on site.[3]
Step four: gear up with Cloggrum
Cloggrum is your first real toolset down here. Turn Cloggrum Ingot into a pickaxe and a sword first, so you can mine the dimension's other ores and fight back against the Rotspawn.[1][3]

Then fill out a full suit of armour. Cloggrum Boots are worth prioritising, since Scintling Goo doesn't slow you down while you're wearing them.[3][4]

Step five: food and first upgrades
For food, Bloody Stew is the quickest thing to throw together, and Gloomgourd Pie is a step up once you've been exploring. Crafting Gloomgourd Seeds and planting them gives you a renewable supply.[3][4]

How does The Undergarden work?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.6 guide
The Undergarden is a dimension mod rather than a tech mod: there are no machines, no power network and no fluid or item pipes to wire up here. Its systems are a new world to explore, the ores and gear you bring out of it, and a handful of status effects that change how fights play out. The feature list is a whole dimension, over 10 unique entities, 15 biomes, ores with special properties when made into tools and weapons, over 10 music tracks, over 10 advancements, 4 special potion effects and 1 dungeon.[1]
Getting there: the Catalyst and the portal
Everything starts with the Catalyst. In this pack the Catalyst recipe has been changed from the mod default, so check the panel below rather than going from memory or an old video.[1][5]
Crafting Shaped
| any gold ingot | any iron ingot | any gold ingot |
| any iron ingot | any diamond gem | any iron ingot |

Changed by the pack
- Craft the Catalyst.[1][5]
- Build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal out of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks.[1]
- Right click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to light it.[1]
The Undergarden itself sits deep underground, below the bedrock of the Overworld. Its plants have adapted to grow anywhere without light, and the native creatures share the place with the invasive Rotspawn, monsters that come from a separate chaotic realm.[1]
Ores and the gear progression
The core progression loop is ore to gear to better gear. Undergarden ores have special properties once you turn them into tools and weapons, so the metal you pick matters more than a raw stat line would suggest.[1]
Cloggrum is the entry metal and covers the full kit: sword, axe, pickaxe, shovel, hoe, shield, the four armour pieces and decorative blocks. Cloggrum Boots carry their own perk, since Scintling Goo does not slow you down while you are wearing them.[4][5]

Recipe id: undergarden:cloggrum_pickaxe
Cloggrum storage works the way you would expect from a vanilla metal, with recipes both ways between Cloggrum Nugget, Cloggrum Ingot and Block of Cloggrum, so nothing you smelt is ever stuck in the wrong form.[5]
The next tier is Forgotten gear, and it is a smithing upgrade rather than a fresh craft. The Forgotten upgrade template takes a cloggrum weapon or tool in its base slot, and Forgotten Ingots are forged from the nuggets dropped by Forgotten Guardians. Working through it unlocks all 6 Forgotten tools.[4]
The special properties show up as tooltips on the finished gear. Forgotten tools mine Undergarden blocks 1.5x as fast, Forgotten weapons deal 1.5x damage to non-boss Undergarden mobs, and Utherium weapons deal 1.5x damage to Rotspawn. There is also a Cloggrum Battleaxe, which you get from a Forgotten that is carrying one, and it can be upgraded with a Forgotten Ingot like the rest.[4]
Status effects
The mod adds its own effects, and several of them are things monsters and traps will put on you rather than buffs you brew.[1][4]
- Brittleness: the higher the victim's armour value, the more damage they take, and the damage scales with the potion level. Heavy armour is a liability here.[4]
- Virulence: similar to poison, but does more damage at a slower rate.[4]
- Virulent Resistance: grants immunity to Virulence and suppresses its damage.[4]
- Featherweight: the victim receives increased knockback when damaged, scaling with the potion level.[4]
- Chilly: slows the victim down and makes them visually shake.[4]
- Gooey: Scintling Goo is constantly placed under the victim's feet.[4]
The Slingshot
The Slingshot is the mod's ranged system and it runs on ammo you pick up around the dimension. Anything usable in it is labelled as Slingshot ammo on the item tooltip, so you can tell at a glance what is worth carrying. Pebbles are the basic shot, but you can also load Scintling Goo Balls to annoy a target, Rotten Blisterberries, and even a Gronglet.[4]
It has three enchantments of its own. Longevity increases the Slingshot's max durability, Ricochet makes fired projectiles bounce off block surfaces, and Self Sling fires you instead of your ammo, which requires you to be standing on the ground.[4]
Other systems worth knowing
- Stoneborn will trade with you, so they are your in-dimension shop.[4]
- The Shard Torch is a torch that damages Rotspawn in its vicinity, which makes it a defensive block as much as a light source.[4]
- You can create a Forgotten Minion using a Forgotten Block and a Carved Gloomgourd, the same way you would build a golem.[4]
- Gloomgourds grow from seeds you plant, so they are a renewable farm crop.[4]
- Gwiblings are caught with a bucket rather than fought.[4]
- The Catacombs are the dimension's dungeon, and the Forgotten Guardian you need for Forgotten Ingots is the fight that gates the upgrade tier.[1][4]
Crafting odds and ends
Beyond gear, the pack's recipe set covers a full decorative and utility line: brick slabs and stairs, chiseled variants of depthrock, shiverstone and tremblecrust bricks made from their slabs, cloggrum tiles, bars and a lantern, a mogmoss rug, and a depthrock bed. Deepsoil converts both ways between its normal and coarse forms, just like dirt.[5]
Two combat consumables chain into each other: the Blisterbomb is built from Rotten Blisterberry and Twistytwig, and feeding a Blisterbomb into a Gloomgourd gives you a Boomgourd.[5]

How do you progress through The Undergarden?
5 parts
Unverified No quests in this pack involve The Undergarden, and the mod isn't on the ATM Star quest path. There is no quest-driven order to follow, so the tiers below are based on the in-pack recipes. Where the recipes don't say how you get a material, I've left it out.
Starting out: Depthrock and Grongle wood
The basic building materials are Depthrock and Grongle Planks. You can craft Depthrock back from Depthrock Pebble, and polish it into Polished Depthrock. Polished Depthrock then leads to Depthrock Bricks and Depthrock Tiles, with stairs, slabs and walls for each.[3]
Crafting Shaped
4 × Depthrock
Recipe id: undergarden:polished_depthrock
Grongle planks come from any Grongle log, and from them you can make the usual wooden pieces: doors, trapdoors, fences, signs and a Grongle Boat. These are good early crafts, but they don't gate anything else.[3]
Cloggrum tier
Cloggrum Ingot is the first metal with a full gear set in the recipes. You can craft a Cloggrum Pickaxe, Cloggrum Axe, Cloggrum Shovel, Cloggrum Hoe and Cloggrum Sword. Armor comes as Cloggrum Helmet, Cloggrum Chestplate, Cloggrum Leggings and Cloggrum Boots. Every tool recipe takes a wooden rod, so you don't need any other metal to get started.[3]

There is also a Cloggrum Shield, plus utility and building pieces like Cloggrum Bars, Cloggrum Lantern and Cloggrum Tiles. Ingots, nuggets and Block of Cloggrum all convert back and forth by crafting, so storage is easy.[3]

Froststeel tier
Froststeel Ingot has the same full set: Froststeel Pickaxe, Froststeel Axe, Froststeel Shovel, Froststeel Hoe and Froststeel Sword, plus Froststeel Helmet, Froststeel Chestplate, Froststeel Leggings and Froststeel Boots. Like Cloggrum, the tools use a wooden rod. You can also craft ingots, nuggets and Block of Froststeel into one another.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any wooden rod |
Recipe id: undergarden:froststeel_sword
Unverified The recipes shown don't say how Froststeel compares to Cloggrum in durability, damage or armor, or where you find the ore. Check the item tooltips in-game before treating one as an upgrade over the other.
Forgotten metal
Forgotten Ingot has ingot, nugget and Block of Forgotten Metal conversions, just like the other metals. There is also a crafting recipe for the Smithing Template, so you can make more of it once you have one.[3]

Recipe id: undergarden:forgotten_upgrade_smithing_template
Unverified The recipes shown don't list any Forgotten tools or armor, and they don't say what the template upgrades. Treat Forgotten gear as unconfirmed here.
The Catalyst
The Catalyst recipe is changed by the pack. It takes a generic diamond gem, gold ingot and iron ingot from the shared tags, so any mod's versions work. Don't rely on the base mod's recipe when you plan this one.[3]

How does The Undergarden work with other mods?
2 parts
The Undergarden connects to other mods in this pack through recipes, covering wood processing and bee products. Everything below comes from in-pack recipes, so you can follow it in your own world.[3]
Sawing Undergarden wood
The pack adds sawing recipes for three Undergarden woods, so you can turn their logs into planks with machines from other mods. Grongle, Smogstem and Wigglewood each get their own version. These are pack-added recipes, not something the Undergarden does by itself.[3]
With Mekanism, sawing a log gives you Grongle Planks plus Sawdust as a bonus byproduct. Smogstem and Wigglewood work the same way and give Smogstem Planks and Wigglewood Planks.[3]
Sawing (mekanism)
- any grongle log
Recipe id: allthemods:mekanism/sawing/undergarden/grongle_planks
Mekanism sawing, Grongle example. Smogstem and Wigglewood have matching recipes.
Productive Trees has its own take. Its sawmill recipes for the same three woods use Sawdust together with a log to make the planks. Here the sawdust is something you put in, not a byproduct.[3]
Sawmill (productivetrees)
2× Sawdust
- any grongle log

Productive Bees
Productive Bees has several recipes that produce Undergarden materials. These are the mod's own recipes, not pack changes. Five centrifuge recipes each give you Wax along with one Undergarden item: Raw Cloggrum, Forgotten Nugget, Raw Froststeel, Regalium Crystal or Utheric Shard.[3]
Centrifuge (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/undergarden/honeycomb_cloggrum
Wax plus Raw Cloggrum. The other four follow the same pattern.
There is also a bee conversion recipe that turns the Music Disc into the Regalium bee.[3]
Bee Conversion (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:bee_conversion/undergarden/regalium_bee
Unverified The recipe data lists no item inputs for the centrifuge recipes, so what you feed the centrifuge, and how the bee conversion is triggered in practice, could not be confirmed from the available sources.
Which The Undergarden config options matter?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.6 guide
Unverified This pack doesn't ship a config file for The Undergarden, so there are no pack-specific values to tune here: nothing has been changed from the mod's own defaults, and there's no file to edit in the pack's config folder.
That means the dimension behaves as the mod ships it: the biomes, mobs, ores and dungeon are all there with no pack-side adjustments you need to know about before you dive in.[1]
What changed in The Undergarden between versions?
All the Mods 10 0.60 includes The Undergarden 0.8.21. The pack first included the mod in 0.42 or earlier.[6]
The one change I can confirm from the mod's own changelog for the 0.8.21 release is a fix for the Undergarden portal effect, which was messing with other portals.[6][7]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for this mod were available, so any pack-specific changes to The Undergarden across releases are unverified.
