The Undergarden is a mod in All the Mons 1.3.0, where it is version 0.9.6. Deep underground, a forgotten land awaits. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is The Undergarden?

2 parts

The Undergarden adds a dark, subterranean dimension that sits deep below the bedrock of the Overworld. Plants there grow without light, strange creatures live in it, and the invasive Rotspawn plague the place. The mod lists 15 biomes, ores with special properties when made into tools and weapons, and 1 dungeon. This pack runs version 0.9.6.[1][2]

Getting in

You enter by crafting a Catalyst, building a Nether-portal-shaped frame, and right clicking the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst. The mod page names Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks for the frame. The pack's quest book also lists Mossy Stone Bricks.[1][3]

Where the quest book puts it

The pack has a chapter called "The Undergarden" in the Exploration group, listed as chapter 71 in the book, with 81 quests. The Undergarden is not on the ATM Star path, so this chapter is optional.[3]

The chapter opens with "The Undergarden" quest, which asks for the Catalyst. "Welcome to the Undergarden!" quest comes right after it, and most of the other quests branch off that one: mushrooms, saplings, biomes, mobs and ores like Cloggrum Ingot and Froststeel Ingot.[3]

Watch out: Read "Warning" quest before you go deep. Rot mobs can infect you with Utherium, and the quest says the Depths below Y level 0 need a Forgotten Pickaxe or another pickaxe of the same tier, like Allthemodium.[3]

The text of 46 of the chapter's quests isn't shown here. Open the quest book to read them.[3]

How do you get started with The Undergarden?

5 parts

Welcome to the Undergarden, a dark dimension with 15 biomes, strange creatures and ores that have special properties when made into tools and weapons. Here is what to do first, in order, to get in and get properly geared.[1]

First, craft the Catalyst and open the portal

Everything starts with the Catalyst. The pack's quest book opens the Undergarden chapter with "The Undergarden" quest, and it asks for exactly this item.[3]

Build a frame the same shape and size as a Nether portal, but use Stone Bricks, Mossy Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks instead of obsidian. Bricks made from Undergarden stone work too. Then right click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to light it.[1][3]

Once you arrive, "Welcome to the Undergarden!" quest follows in the quest book, and the biome, mob and item quests of the chapter come after it.[3]

Next, get Cloggrum and make your gear

Cloggrum is the Undergarden's iron. The quest book says it is found everywhere and used in a dozen different recipes, and some mobs even drop it. Its tools act like iron tools, and the sword hits harder than an iron sword.[3]

The pack has changed how you get the ingot: the smelting and blasting recipes for Cloggrum ore are both marked as changed by the pack, so either furnace type works.[4]

Then, make a way home

If you cannot find your original portal, the Crumbling Catalyst works just like the normal Catalyst for activating a portal, so you can still get back to the Overworld. The quest book places it after the Forgotten quest.[3]

Know about the Rot before you go deep

Watch out: Rot Mobs (Rotling, Rotwalker, Rotbelcher and Rotbeast) can infect you with Utherium. The quest book says the only way to prevent it is to infuse your armor with Rogdorium using the Infuser. Purity from a Mysterious Totem, or eating Rogdorium, clears it.[3]

Both come from the Depths, below Y level 0. To get down there you need to mine Dreadrock, which takes a Forgotten Pickaxe or an Allthemodium Pickaxe.[3]

The totem also has an in-pack infusing recipe that starts from Ancient Root. Once placed, it gives you Purity every couple of seconds.[3][4]

Finally, upgrade to Forgotten tools

The best tools come from upgrading Cloggrum ones. You need Forgotten Ingots from the Catacombs, either from chests or from the Forgotten Guardian, plus a Smithing Template found in Catacomb chests. The quest book says these tools come with Efficiency for Undergarden blocks.[3]

How does The Undergarden work?

4 parts

The Undergarden is a dimension mod, a dark subterranean world below the bedrock of the Overworld. This section covers how you get in and how its materials are processed in this pack, as far as the sources confirm.[1]

Getting in: the Catalyst portal

You enter by crafting a Catalyst. Build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal out of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks. Bricks derived from the Undergarden also work. Then right click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to activate the portal.[1]

The mod's advancements also mention a Dreadrock barrier at the bottom of the Undergarden. Breaking through it leads you into the Depths.[5]

Cloggrum and the Forgotten upgrade

In this pack, both the smelting and the blasting recipe for Cloggrum ore give a Cloggrum Ingot, and both are marked as changed by the pack. They accept anything in the Cloggrum ore tag.[4]

The recipe that turns a Cloggrum storage block back into ingots is also changed by the pack, and it gives 9 ingots. Blasting any item from the Cloggrum items tag gives a Cloggrum Nugget.[4]

The pack also has a bee route. A Productive Bees centrifuge recipe for Cloggrum honeycomb, changed by the pack, outputs wax and Raw Cloggrum, with no item inputs listed.[4]

Forgotten gear builds on Cloggrum tools such as the Cloggrum Axe. The recipe below shows the smithing upgrade to the Forgotten Axe. The mod's advancements say you forge a Forgotten Ingot from a Forgotten Guardian's nuggets, and that there are 6 Forgotten tools in total.[4][5]

Stone and wood processing

Depthrock is the starting block for most of the stone work. The recipe dump counts 59 stonecutting recipes that go from Undergarden blocks to Undergarden blocks, and the pack adds a Create sandpaper polishing recipe so you can get Polished Depthrock too. The recipe below shows the stonecutter route to Chiseled Depthrock Bricks.[4]

Wood works with other mods' machines too. The pack adds Create cutting recipes for Undergarden logs, such as the one for Grongle Log and Stripped Grongle Log shown below, and the dump counts 39 Create cutting recipes in total that start and end with Undergarden items. For Ancient Root the pack also adds a Mekanism sawing recipe.[4]

How do you progress through The Undergarden?

7 parts

The pack's quest book lays out the Undergarden as a chain of metals. You start with a portal, then work through Cloggrum, Froststeel, Forgotten, Rogdorium and Utherium. Let's walk it.[3]

Getting there: the portal

The first quest, "The Undergarden" quest, says the portal has the same shape and size as a Nether Portal, but is built from Stone Bricks, Mossy Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks instead of Obsidian. The quest says you light it with a Catalyst.[3]

Cloggrum

The quest book calls Cloggrum Ingot the Iron of the Undergarden, found everywhere, and says some mobs even drop it. The pack has changed the Cloggrum crafting recipes (tools, armor, blocks) and its ore, raw material, smelting and blasting recipes, so use the recipe viewer for the exact in-pack versions.[3][4]

Per the quests, Cloggrum tools act like Iron tools, but the Cloggrum Sword hits harder than an Iron Sword. The Cloggrum armor quest says the armor is a little worse than Iron armor and that the boots help you move through Scintling Goo. In the Basic Tools chapter the Cloggrum Pickaxe counts as Tier 3, and the Cloggrum Sword is listed at 7 attack damage.[3][6]

The pack also adds its own recipe for the Cloggrum Shield, which the quest says acts like a normal shield. The same quest says the Cloggrum Battleaxe is different: it's a rare drop from Forgottens.[3][4]

Froststeel

The quest says Froststeel Ingot spawns in the Frozen Biomes (Frostfields, Frosty Smogstem Forests and probably Icy Seas). It spawns in Shiverstone, which replaces Depthrock there and is slippery. The quest adds that you might also find nuggets in Munchers' bellies. The Froststeel Pickaxe is also Tier 3, and the Froststeel Sword is listed at 6 attack damage.[3][6]

According to the tools quest, Froststeel tools slow down whoever they hit, except the hoe. The armor quest says Froststeel armor is slightly worse than Diamond, with big knockback resistance but a speed debuff.[3]

Forgotten

The quest says Forgotten Ingot has to come from the Catacombs, either from chests or from killing the Forgotten Guardian. It also says the Smithing Template is found in Catacomb chests. You then upgrade Cloggrum tools into Forgotten ones, so make the Cloggrum version first.[3][4]

Smithing Transform

Recipe id: undergarden:forgotten_pickaxe_smithing

The tools quest says Forgotten tools come with Efficiency for Undergarden blocks only, and that the Forgotten Sword and Axe deal extra damage to all Undergarden mobs except the Rot Beast and Forgotten Guardian. The Forgotten Pickaxe is listed as Tier 5, and the quests call it the same tier as the Allthemodium Pickaxe and say it is needed to mine Dreadrock. The "Ultimate Weapon!" quest quest asks you to upgrade a Cloggrum Battleaxe into the Forgotten Battleaxe.[3][4][6]

The Ancient Armor quest says the armor (helmet, chestplate and leggings, with no boots) is worn by Forgottens and is where you get it from. Another quest says that if you lose your original portal, the Crumbling Catalyst activates a portal just like the normal Catalyst.[3]

Rogdorium and the Infuser

The Rogdorium quest says it lives in the Depths below Y level 0. It says you need a Forgotten or Allthemodium Pickaxe for the ore, which spawns anywhere in the Depths. Rogdoric Ancient Root is described as more common and mined with a Forgotten or Allthemodium Axe, but it only gives a Rogdorium Nugget instead of a full Rogdorium.[3]

In the quest book, the Spear, the Mysterious Totem and the Infuser all come after Rogdorium. The Spear quest says it has the same damage as a Diamond Sword plus longer reach, and that it can be thrown like a Trident. The Infuser quest says it is used mainly to craft Utheric Crystals and to infuse armor with Rogdorium, and that infused armor protects you from the Rot disease. It also notes that right now there aren't many Infuser recipes.[3]

The quest says that once the Mysterious Totem is placed, it gives you Purity for 10 seconds every couple of seconds, and Purity cleanses the Rot. The quest says you can loot one from a Denizen Camp or craft it, and the recipe list shows it made by infusing Ancient Root.[3][4]

Utherium

The Utheric quest says Utheric Cluster and its shards drop from several mobs, especially the Rot Monsters, and that 9 shards make 1 cluster. In the recipes, the Infuser turns a cluster into an Utherium Crystal.[3][4]

Infuser Conversion (undergarden)

Recipe id: undergarden:utheric_cluster_to_utherium_crystal_infusing

The pack has changed the Utherium tool, armor and block recipes. The quests say Utherium armor has the same stats as Netherite armor without needing a Smithing Template, and Utherium tools are similar to Diamond but more effective against Rot mobs. In Basic Tools, the Utherium Pickaxe is Tier 4 and the Utherium Sword is listed at 7.5 attack damage.[3][4][6]

Regalium: the trade metal

The quest calls Regalium Crystal the Emerald equivalent. It says it can't become armor or tools, but you can trade it to Stoneborns for other items. The pack has changed its block and smelting recipes.[3][4]

Tip: Per the quests, Froststeel, Cloggrum and Regalium can be mined for, while Utheric and Forgotten materials you need to kill for.[7]

How does The Undergarden work with other mods?

3 parts

The Undergarden connects to a few other mods in this pack through recipes the pack added or changed: Mekanism, Productive Trees and Productive Bees. The Undergarden quest chapter also compares one of its tool tiers to an Allthemodium tool.[3][4]

Sawing Undergarden wood

The pack adds sawing recipes in Mekanism and Productive Trees for Undergarden wood. They cover Grongle, Smogstem and Wigglewood logs, plus Ancient Root. In Mekanism's sawing recipes, the output is planks together with Sawdust. Here is the Grongle version:[4]

Sawdust, Grongle PlanksAdded by the pack

Sawing (mekanism)

  • any grongle log

Recipe id: allthemods:mekanism/sawing/undergarden/grongle_planks

Added by the pack: Grongle logs go in, Grongle Planks and Sawdust come out.

Productive Trees' sawmill gets matching recipes. These take Sawdust as part of the input, so they work differently from the Mekanism version. Both mods get the same Undergarden wood types.[4]

Sawmill (productivetrees)

Recipe id: allthemods:productivetrees/sawing/undergarden/grongle_planks

Added by the pack: the sawmill takes Productive Trees Sawdust plus Grongle logs.

The Smogstem, Wigglewood and Ancient Root versions follow the same pattern in both mods. Their planks are Smogstem Planks, Wigglewood Planks and Ancient Root Planks.[4]

Productive Bees

Productive Bees is where the pack ties in Undergarden materials most. The pack changed several of its centrifuge recipes so they output Wax together with an Undergarden resource:[4]

Wax, Raw CloggrumChanged by the pack

Centrifuge (productivebees)

    Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/undergarden/honeycomb_cloggrum

One example of the changed centrifuge recipes. The recipe dump lists no item inputs for it.

The pack also changed the bee conversion for the Regalium bee. It uses an Undergarden music disc, shown here:[4]

    RegaliumChanged by the pack

    Bee Conversion (productivebees)

    Recipe id: productivebees:bee_conversion/undergarden/regalium_bee

Changed by the pack: the Gloomper Anthem Music Disc converts into the Regalium bee.

    Allthemodium comparison in the quests

The Undergarden quest chapter mentions Allthemodium in one spot. Dreadrock needs a Forgotten Pickaxe to mine, and the quest says that is the same tier as the Allthemodium Pickaxe. Keep that in mind when you plan your trip into the Depths below Y level 0.[3]

Which All the Mons quests use The Undergarden?

    3 parts

The Undergarden has its own quest chapter, and it also shows up in three general chapters: Basic Armor, Basic Tools and Building Tips. The dedicated chapter is where the quest texts explain the mod, so start there.[3][6][7][8]

    The Undergarden chapter

It all starts with "The Undergarden" quest, which asks for the Catalyst. The quest text says the portal is the same shape and size as a Nether Portal, but built from Stone Bricks, Mossy Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks instead of Obsidian. It says you activate it by using the Catalyst on it.[3]

Nearly everything else in the chapter lists the "Welcome to the Undergarden!" quest as its prerequisite. The metal quests then form the main progression, and each one unlocks gear quests. The quest texts describe things as they stood when they were written. The Infuser quest, for example, says that right now there aren't many Infuser recipes.[3]

    1. Cloggrum: "Cloggrum" quest asks for the Cloggrum Ingot, which the quest text calls the Iron of the Undergarden. It unlocks "Cloggrum Armor" quest, "Cloggrum Tools" quest and "Cloggrum Weapons" quest. The weapons quest asks for the Cloggrum Battleaxe and Cloggrum Shield, and its text says you get the Battleaxe as a rare drop from Forgottens.[3]
    2. Froststeel: "Froststeel" quest asks for the Froststeel Ingot. It leads to "Froststeel Tools" quest and "Froststeel Armor" quest. The armor quest text says the armor gives big Knockback Resistance but also a Speed debuff.[3]
    3. Forgotten: "Forgotten" quest asks for the Forgotten Ingot, and its text says these come from the Catacombs, with a Smithing Template from Catacomb Chests also needed. It unlocks "Forgotten Tools" quest, "Ultimate Weapon!" quest (the Forgotten Battleaxe) and a quest in "The Undergarden" (the Crumbling Catalyst). "Ancient Armor" quest needs both the Welcome quest and Forgotten. It asks for the helmet, chestplate and leggings only, and its text says there are no Ancient Boots.[3]
    4. Rogdorium: "Rogdorium" quest comes after Forgotten Tools and asks for Rogdorium. The quest text says you find it in the Depths below Y Level 0 and need a Forgotten or Allthemodium Pickaxe for the ore. From here the quest book unlocks "Spear" quest (the Spear), a quest in "The Undergarden" (the Mysterious Totem) and a quest in "The Undergarden" (the Infuser).[3]
    5. Utheric: "Utheric" quest asks for the Utherium Crystal and needs the Infuser quest first. It unlocks "Utherium Armor" quest and "Utheric Tools" quest. The armor quest text says Utherium Armor has the same stats as Netherite Armor without needing a Smithing Template.[3]

"Regalium" quest is a side quest for the Regalium Crystal. The quest calls it the Undergarden's Emerald equivalent: it can't become armor or tools, but you can trade it to Stoneborns.[3]

    Exploration and item quests

The rest of the chapter is single-item quests that unlock after the Welcome quest. Their texts mostly explain a plant, mob drop or feature, and none of them has a gear chain behind it.[3]

    Other chapters

Which The Undergarden config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.6 guide

Unverified This pack doesn't ship a config file for The Undergarden, so there are no pack-specific values to tune here: nothing has been changed from the mod's own defaults, and there's no file to edit in the pack's config folder.

That means the dimension behaves as the mod ships it: the biomes, mobs, ores and dungeon are all there with no pack-side adjustments you need to know about before you dive in.[1]

Tip: If you're looking for how to actually get down there, skip ahead to the portal section, you activate a Nether-portal-shaped frame of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks with a Catalyst rather than changing any settings.[1]

What changed in The Undergarden between versions?

    3 parts

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships The Undergarden 0.9.6, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier. There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs for 0.9.4, 0.9.5 and 0.9.6.[2][9][10][11]

0.9.6 (the version in this pack)

    • Mysterious pots are more resilient to despawning.[9]
    • Fixed unique weapon abilities only working on player attackers.[9]
    • The infuser gained capability support, and the Utheric Infection and gloomgourd overlays were tweaked.[9]
    • Small tweaks to the froststeel weapon sprites, plus new pt_br and es_es translations.[9]

    0.9.5

    • Biome distribution was reworked, and the changelog says it was subject to further changes.[10]
    • Gronglets became edible, though at a dire cost.[10]
    • Utheric Infection damage now increases over time.[10]
    • Added a client config to disable the Utheric Infection overlay.[10]
    • More blocks are valid portal frame blocks: Cracked Stone Bricks, Chiseled Stone Bricks, Cracked Deepslate Bricks and Cracked Deepslate Tiles.[10]
Tip: If the Utheric Infection overlay bothers you, the client config option to turn it off arrived in 0.9.5, so it is available in this pack's 0.9.6.[2][10]

    0.9.4

    • New content: a Depthrock Pot block, a Mysterious Pot entity, more Forgotten Vestige variants, and pot generation in Forgotten Vestige houses. Forgotten Fields also got small rubble piles as a ruins feature.[11]
    • The Catalyst recipe and texture changed, and a new Crumbling Catalyst was added as a one-time-use catalyst.[11]
    • Dreadrock now only takes forever to mine with the wrong tool when it is in the Undergarden.[11]
    • Undergarden trees no longer turn dirt into Deepsoil when growing.[11]
    • Brutes can now spawn in Frostfields, and Forgotten with Forgotten Pickaxes no longer rarely spawn in Catacombs by mistake (a fix).[11]
    • Advancement changes: eating Rogdorium counts towards "A Much Needed Antidote", "Into the Depths" is now a child of "What Now Is", and Forgotten Metal Block counts for "Collector's Edition".[11]
    • Visual updates: new Dreadrock ore, Utherium and Ancient armor textures, plus tweaked Rogdorium Grove colors and a new ambient particle there.[11]
