What is Industrial Foregoing?

1 part

Industrial Foregoing is a big collection of machines built around one idea: automate everything. Mob and animal farming, plant farming, a suite of Infinity tools, large item and fluid storage plus transporters, power generation, enchantment sorting and creation, and plenty more. This pack ships version 1.21-3.6.10.[1][2]

It's for players who like machines that do one job well and chain together. Instead of one giant multiblock, you place a Plant Gatherer next to a Plant Sower, a Mob Crusher next to a Mob Duplicator, and let the outputs feed each other. If you enjoy wiring up farms and walking away, this is your mod.[3][4][5][6]

Where it fits in your progression

Industrial Foregoing is an early-to-mid game tech mod. Getting plastic is described in the in-game guide as one of the most important things in the mod, so it's the first thing to master. You start by collecting latex with a Fluid Extractor pointed at logs, then run that latex through a Latex Processing Unit with water and power to make Tiny Dry Rubber, which becomes plastic for nearly every machine frame.[1][7][8][9][10]

From there the mod branches. Agriculture and husbandry machines handle crops, trees and animals. The mob line gives you Essence and Liquid Meat for enchanting and for Mechanical Dirt spawners. The laser drill setup produces ores and fluids on demand, and the Dissolution Chamber becomes your crafting workhorse for the higher-tier components.[11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18]

For power, the mod is fairly self-sufficient: the Bioreactor turns plant matter into Biofuel and the Biofuel Generator burns it for 160 RF/t, while the Mycelial Reactor rewards you for running one of each mycelial generator at the same time with massive FE output.[19][20][21]

Tip: Nearly every machine with a working area accepts addons. Range addons add 1 block of range per tier, speed addons add +1 or +2 progress per tick, efficiency addons cut operation time by 10% or 20%, and processing addons add 1 or 2 extra operations per finish. Budget for these early, since they turn a slow farm into a fast one.[22]

How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing?

5 parts

Industrial Foregoing is a big collection of machines for automating almost everything, from mob and animal farms to plant farming, power generation and item and fluid transport. But before any of that, there's one material you need to master: plastic.[1][7]

Plastic is a simple crafting material made from latex, and getting a steady supply of it is the single most important first step in this mod. Sort that out and the rest of the machine list opens up.[7][10]

Step 1: Latex and rubber

  1. Build a Fluid Extractor and place it facing a log. It eats the log, strips the bark first and then the stripped variant disappears. Different logs give different amounts of latex, so check JEI for the rates.[8]
  2. You can run several extractors against the same log at once, and power is optional here: feeding it power just makes it work faster.[8]
  3. Feed the latex into a Latex Processing Unit along with water and power. It uses 100mb of latex and 500mb of water to make one Tiny Dry Rubber.[1][9]
  4. Turn that rubber into plastic and keep the line running, because nearly everything you build next wants it.[7][10]

Your very first machine.

Step 2: Power

The Pitiful Generator burns normal fuels like coal and will get you started, but it's very inefficient and keeps eating fuel even when its energy buffer is full.[23]

A much better early target is the Biofuel Generator, which runs on biofuel for 160 RF/t and stops consuming fuel once its internal buffer is full. You make the biofuel in a Bioreactor from water plus seeds, saplings, dyes and similar odds and ends.[19][20][24]

Tip: Variety matters in the Bioreactor: with a single item type you only get 80mb per item, but with four different items each one makes 110mb, for 440mb total. Throw in as many different plant types as you can.[19]

Step 3: Moving things around

Conveyor belts carry items, entities and fluids, and they take upgrades to interact with the world. Items and entities can ride them up and down, but fluids only travel horizontally. Right-click a belt with a dye to colour it, use glowstone to make it move things very fast, and use plastic to stop items on the belt from being picked up.[25]

For short hops between two inventories one block apart, the Item Transporter is simpler. You need one transporter on the extraction side and one on the insertion side, and you can filter with blacklist or whitelist modes in the GUI.[26]

Step 4: The Dissolution Chamber

Once plastic and power are flowing, build a Dissolution Chamber. It crafts materials using up to 8 items and/or 1 fluid, and can output items and fluids. All its recipes are shapeless, so ingredients can go in any slot, and the machine locks the slots once it recognises a recipe.[18]

Step 5: Addons

Most machines take addons to tune them. Speed addons make the progress bar advance faster (+1 at tier 1, +2 at tier 2), efficiency addons cut the ticks per operation (-10% at tier 1, -20% at tier 2), processing addons add extra operations per finish (+1 at tier 1, +2 at tier 2), and range addons add 1 to the working area per tier on machines that have one.[22]

Tip: Not every machine accepts range addons, so check the tooltip before you spend the resources.[22]

How does Industrial Foregoing work?

7 parts

Industrial Foregoing is a collection of machines built to automate most of Minecraft's functions, covering mob and animal farming, plant farming, a suite of Infinity tools, big item and fluid storage with transporters, power generation, and enchantment sorting and creation.[1]

Almost everything runs on the same pattern: a single block machine with an internal inventory and tanks, a working area in front of or above it, and a progress bar that advances while the machine has power and inputs. Learn one machine's GUI and you have basically learned them all.[4][22][27]

Plastic first

Getting plastic is one of the most important things in this mod, so make sure you master it early. Plastic is a simple crafting material made from latex, and it shows up in nearly every machine recipe.[7][10]

The chain starts with the Fluid Extractor, which pulls latex out of logs placed in front of it. Multiple extractors can work on the same log at once. The machine slowly consumes the log, strips the bark off it, and eventually the log disappears entirely. Different logs give different amounts of latex, so check JEI for the rates. Power is optional here, but providing it makes the machine work faster.[8]

From there the Latex Processing Unit uses 100mb of latex and 500mb of water to produce 1 Tiny Dry Rubber.[9]

Machine addons

Four addon types tune how machines behave, and each comes in tiers. Range addons increase the working area of machines that have one, with each tier adding 1 to the range, though not every machine accepts them. Look for the tooltip line telling you a machine accepts range addons, and the base area listed in width by height.[22][28]

  • Speed increases how much the progress bar advances every tick: tier 1 gives +1 and tier 2 gives +2.[22]
  • Efficiency decreases the ticks needed to complete an operation: tier 1 is -10% and tier 2 is -20%.[22]
  • Processing increases how many operations are done when a machine finishes: tier 1 adds 1 operation and tier 2 adds 2.[22]

Some machines take specialised addons instead, such as fortune addons or adult filters, and their tooltips will tell you which ones they accept. Many machines will also pull fluids straight from a tank placed on top of them, which saves running pipes.[28]

Power and fluid handling

Machines run on RF, and costs are stated either per operation or per tick. The Block Breaker and Block Placer each use 1,000RF per operation, the Fluid Collector the same, the Marine Fisher 5,000RF per operation, and the Dye Mixer draws 30RF/t. The Sludge Refiner is the hungry one at 1,000RF/t, so have a buffer stored before you switch it on.[27][29][30][31][32][33]

Fluids are first-class citizens in this mod. Latex, sludge, sewage, essence, liquid meat, pink slime, biofuel and ether gas are all produced by machines and consumed by others, so a working setup is usually a loop of fluids as much as items.[12][13][24][34][35][36][37][38]

Tip: The Dissolution Chamber is the big crafting machine: it takes up to 8 items and 1 fluid and can output items, fluids or both. All its recipes are shapeless, so ingredients can go in any slot, and once it detects a recipe it locks the slots so nothing extra gets inserted.[18]

Conveyors

Conveyor Belts move items, entities and fluids, and they interact with the world through upgrades. Items and entities can travel up and down slopes, but fluids only move horizontally. Right-click a belt with a dye to colour it.[25]

  • Glowstone makes conveyors move items and entities very fast.[25]
  • Plastic stops items on top of a conveyor from being picked up.[25]

Upgrades slot onto the sides of a belt and each has its own filter GUI. Extraction pulls items and fluids out of inventories, including player inventories. Insertion pushes items and fluids in, with two modes: insert everything touching the conveyor, or only what directly touches the upgrade.[39]

  • Detection spots items and entities on the belt and can be filtered to specific ones.[39]
  • Bouncing launches items and entities off the belt, with vertical and horizontal strength set in the GUI.[39]
  • Dropping drops items and entities directly below the belt.[39]
  • Blinking teleports items and entities, with the vertical and horizontal distance set in the GUI.[39]
  • Splitting divides items and entities by a ratio you define, and needs upgrades on every side you want to distribute to.[39]
Tip: Entity filters on the detection, bouncing, dropping and blinking upgrades use a Mob Imprisonment Tool with the entity inside, so capture one of whatever you want to sort first.[39]

Transporters

Item Transporters and Fluid Transporters move things between inventories that are 1 block apart. You need a transporter on the extraction side and another on the insertion side for anything to flow. Multiple transporter types can share the same block, and you swap a transporter between insertion and extraction mode by right-clicking its middle area.[26][40]

Each transporter has a GUI with blacklist and whitelist filtering. Regulator mode, available when a transporter is set to insertion, lets you cap how many items or how much fluid the target inventory is allowed to hold. Speed addons make a transporter work faster and efficiency addons let it transfer more; apply them by right-clicking the outer ring of the transporter.[26][40]

The World Transporter is the odd one out: instead of talking to a neighbouring inventory, it picks items up from the world into an inventory or drops them back out into it. It shares the same mode switching, filtering, regulator and addon behaviour.[41]

Tip: To pull a transporter or its upgrades back out, sneak and right-click one of the transporters.[26]

Multiblock-style structures

A few systems span more than one block. The Laser Drill charges the first Ore Laser Base and Fluid Laser Base it finds in its working area. A charged Ore Laser Base produces ores, weighted by the biome it sits in and the depth it is configured to mine at, and laser lenses bias the weights toward a specific ore. A charged Fluid Laser Base produces fluids instead, but needs a catalyst that is not consumed, the right biome and a specific drilling depth, and some fluids require an entity underneath the machine. Check JEI for the values in both cases.[15][16][17]

Mechanical Dirt also links up: when one block is supplied with power or liquid meat, it is automatically divided equally between any connected blocks. Each operation costs 1,000RF and 20mb of liquid meat, and normal mob spawn conditions still apply, meaning light level 7 or lower and the block being loaded.[14]

The Mycelial Reactor uses the Mycelial Network to detect the other mycelial generators and generate massive amounts of FE, but one instance of each generator has to be working at the same time for that to happen.[21]

Machine facing and output sides

Machines with several inputs or outputs let you assign roles to individual faces, which is what makes the enchantment line automatable. The Enchantment Extractor, for example, has separate handlers for enchanted item input, enchanted book output and enchantless item output, while the Enchantment Sorter separates enchanted from non-enchanted items entirely.[28][42]

Several machines also have mode toggles in their GUI that change what they produce. The Mob Crusher can either let mobs generate essence, or consume essence so that each kill has a random chance to apply Looting at any level. The Enchantment Extractor can transfer enchantments onto books, or transform them straight into essence with no books required.[5][28][43]

How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing?

5 parts

Progression in this mod is gated by two things: plastic, and the tier of machine frame a recipe asks for. Getting plastic is one of the most important things in the mod, so it's worth mastering early. Once you have a steady plastic supply, the recipes in this pack split cleanly into machines that need a pity frame, a simple frame, or an advanced frame.[7][44]

Step zero: latex and plastic

The Fluid Extractor is your bootstrap machine, and in this pack its recipe doesn't call for any plastic at all, so you can build it before you have a rubber chain running. It extracts latex from wood placed in front of it, eats through the log (stripping it first, then removing it), and multiple extractors can pull from the same log at once. Power is optional, but providing it makes the machine work faster.[8][44]

No plastic required, so this is where you start.

Latex then goes into a Latex Processing Unit, which uses 100mb of latex and 500mb of water to make one Tiny Dry Rubber. Plastic is crafted from there, and it shows up in almost every machine recipe that follows.[9][10][34]

Conveyor Belt belts and their upgrades sit outside the frame tiers entirely, so you can build item routing as soon as you have plastic and iron. The upgrades cover extraction, insertion, detection, bouncing, dropping, blinking and splitting, all with filters in their GUIs.[39][44]

Pity frame tier

The pity frame covers the bulk of the mod's workhorse machines in this pack. If a recipe lists a pity frame, it's something you can realistically build on your first plastic run.[44]

Tip: Build the Dissolution Chamber while you're still on pity frames. It crafts using up to 8 items and one fluid, all recipes are shapeless so slot order doesn't matter, and it locks its slots once a recipe is detected.[18][44]

Simple frame tier

The middle tier is small but important. The Laser Drill charges the first Ore Laser Base and Fluid Laser Base it finds in its working area, which opens up laser-based resource generation. The Hydroponic Bed speeds up crop growth with power and water (or lava for nether crops), and the Fermentation Station ferments raw ore meat once its contents reach the configured level.[15][44][49][50]

Watch out: The Hydroponic Bed recipe needs Fertilizer, which is produced by the Sewage Composter from Sewage, so you'll want a Sewer line running before you plan a hydroponic farm.[36][44][51][52][53]

Advanced frame tier

Advanced frames are the endgame gate. The Fluid Laser Base pairs with the laser drill to make fluids using a non-consumed catalyst, a specific biome and a specific drilling depth. The Fluid Sieving Machine turns fermented ore meat and sand back into ore dusts, and the Infinity Charger charges powered gear, especially Infinity items.[17][44][54][55]

The enchantment suite also lives here: the Enchantment Extractor pulls enchantments into books or converts them to Essence, the Enchantment Factory enchants items at level 30 with large amounts of Essence, the Enchantment Applicator works like an anvil using Essence instead of experience, and the Enchantment Sorter separates enchanted items from plain ones. Note that this pack changes the extractor and factory recipes, so check the in-pack versions below rather than what you remember from other packs.[42][43][44][56][57]

There's a neat loop at the top of the tree: the Fluid Laser Base placed right on top of a Wither produces Ether Gas, and very small amounts of Ether Gas make the Hydroponic Bed grow crops much faster with automatic replanting.[38][49]

Scaling after the tiers

Once a machine is built, addons are how you push it further. Range addons extend a machine's working area by 1 per tier (not every machine accepts them), speed addons advance the progress bar by +1 at tier 1 and +2 at tier 2, efficiency addons cut operation time by 10% at tier 1 and 20% at tier 2, and processing addons add +1 or +2 operations per completed cycle.[22]

How does Industrial Foregoing work with other mods?

4 parts

Industrial Foregoing ties into several other mods in this pack. The links come from the pack's own recipes: the Laser Drill pulls ores and raw materials from other mods, Productive Bees uses some of this mod's fluids, and a pack-added crafting recipe uses the Wither Builder.[44]

Laser Drill: ores from other mods

The Laser Drill picks what it mines based on the colored lens you use. In this pack, the ore recipes for the Laser Drill have been changed so that most lenses give materials from All The Ores. The black lens gives a Modern Industrialization material.[44]

Some lenses appear in several recipes, so a light gray or brown lens can give you more than one material. The sources don't say how the drill chooses between them, so check the recipes in JEI before you build around it.[44]

Crude Oil from PneumaticCraft

The black lens has a second use. A fluid Laser Drill recipe with it produces Crude Oil from PneumaticCraft. Unlike the ore recipes above, this one is listed as a regular mod recipe, so the pack didn't change it.[44]

Productive Bees

Productive Bees has recipes that use Industrial Foregoing fluids. Bee conversion recipes turn an Ether Gas Bucket into an Ether Gas bee, and Pink Slime into a Pink Slimy bee.[44]

There's also a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that outputs Ether Gas and Wax. The recipe dump lists no item inputs for it, so check it in JEI.[44]

Ether Gas is otherwise made by the Fluid Laser Base when it sits right on top of a Wither. It's also the fluid the Hydroponic Bed and the Plant Gatherer use in small amounts for faster growth and automatic replanting.[3][38][49]

Wither's Compass

The pack adds a crafting recipe for the Wither's Compass that uses the Wither Builder, together with Heart of the Deep from Deeper and Darker and Bedrock. The Wither Builder is the machine that spawns withers for you.[44][58]

Which Industrial Foregoing config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Unverified No config files for Industrial Foregoing in this pack were available when this section was written, so I can't tell you which config options this pack sets or which values it changed from the mod defaults. Check the in-game config screen or the pack's config folder before relying on any value you've seen elsewhere.

The mod's project page does list CraftTweaker support. That means recipes for this mod can be changed by scripts, so if a recipe in the pack looks different from what you remember, trust the recipe shown on the site rather than a mod default.[1]

Unverified Whether this pack actually uses CraftTweaker scripts to change Industrial Foregoing recipes is not confirmed by the available sources.

What changed in Industrial Foregoing between versions?

All the Mods 10 0.53 ships Industrial Foregoing version 1.21-3.6.10. The pack's mod list shows it was first included in 0.53 or an earlier release, so you can't tell from that list exactly when it arrived.[2]

The mod keeps its own changelog for the 1.21-3.6.10 release, but the entries weren't available to me, so I can't list what changed in that version.[59]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Industrial Foregoing were available, so any changes the pack itself made to this mod across releases are unconfirmed.
