What is Deeper and Darker?
3 parts
Deeper and Darker expands the Deep Dark. It adds new blocks, items, armor and a whole new dimension called the Otherside, with its own biomes, structures and mobs. If you've ever explored an Ancient City and wanted more from it, this mod is for you.[1]
This pack runs version 1.3.5 of the mod.[2]
Getting into the Otherside
Your way in is the Warden. When a Warden dies, it has a chance to drop a Heart of the Deep, which you use to activate the portal in the Ancient City. The portal must be completely empty before it will activate, and that includes Sculk, so clear it out first.[1][3]
Where it fits in this pack
The mod appears in the pack's early gear quests as an alternative tool path. The Resonarium Pickaxe counts for the Tier 4 pickaxe quest a quest in "Basic Tools", and the Warden Pickaxe counts for the Tier 5 quest a quest in "Basic Tools".[4]
For weapons, the Resonarium Sword completes the 7 Attack Damage quest a quest in "Basic Tools", and the Warden Sword completes the 9 Attack Damage quest a quest in "Basic Tools".[4]
On the armor side, the "Warden Armor" quest quest asks for the full set: Warden Helmet, Warden Chestplate, Warden Leggings and Warden Boots. The quest presents it as an upgrade to Netherite and an alternative to Allthemodium, and you'll need a few Warden drops to make it.[5]
The ATM Star connection
Deeper and Darker is part of the ATM Star path. The "Heart of the Deep" quest quest in Chapter 3: The ATM Star asks for a Heart of the Deep. The Heart can go toward the ATM Star or into activating the Otherside portal.[3]
How do you get started with Deeper and Darker?
4 parts
Deeper and Darker builds on the Deep Dark and adds a new dimension called the Otherside. To enter it, you kill the Warden and use its heart. In this pack, the Basic Tools quests accept several of the mod's tools, so that's the natural place to start.[1][4]
Your first steps, in order
- Make a Resonarium Pickaxe and a Resonarium Sword. Both are smithing recipes in this pack. The pickaxe is one of the items accepted by the Tier 4 pickaxe quest a quest in "Basic Tools". The sword is one of the items accepted by the 7 Attack Damage sword quest a quest in "Basic Tools".[4][6]
- Work towards Warden gear. The Warden Sword covers the 9 Attack Damage quest a quest in "Basic Tools". The Warden Pickaxe is one of the items accepted by the Tier 5 pickaxe quest a quest in "Basic Tools". The Warden gear recipes in this pack are smithing upgrades, shown further down. Keep an eye out for the Reinforced Echo Shard and the Smithing Template as you explore.[4][6]
- Finish the full armor set for the "Warden Armor" quest quest. The quest suggests upgrading Netherite into Warden Armor rather than Allthemodium, and says you'll need a few Warden drops to do it.[5][6]
- Kill the Warden and hope for a Heart of the Deep. It's a chance drop, and it's what the "Heart of the Deep" quest quest asks for.[3]
The tools
This pickaxe is a smithing recipe in this pack.
The sword is also a smithing recipe in this pack.
Warden gear
The chestplate, leggings and boots use the same kind of smithing recipe.
What the Heart of the Deep is for
The heart is worth the fight. The pack's quest says it can be used for the ATM Star, or to activate the Portal in the Ancient City. The portal won't activate if anything is inside it, and that includes Sculk, so clear it out first.[3]
How does Deeper and Darker work?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 6.6 guide
Heads up: the sources I have don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluid handling or automation for this mod, so I won't make any up. What they do cover is how you get into the Otherside, how the warden gear is upgraded, and how the building blocks are crafted. The project page also says a new update branch is planned to add progression to the dimension and more biomes and entities, so what follows is the mod as the page and the lang file currently describe it.[1][7]
Getting into the Otherside
As the project page currently describes it, the mod adds a whole new dimension called the Otherside, with biomes like the deeplands, echoing forest, overcast columns and blooming caverns. To enter it, you kill the warden and use its heart. The in-game advancements back this up: one tells you to slay the Warden and take its heart, and another points you to the depths below the bedrock.[1][7]
The project page also says there is an ancient temple that is the warden's home. It warns you to be careful when breaking the ancient vases there, so you don't awaken an ancient lurker.[1]
Warden gear and the upgrade template
The project page currently lists a warden set of armor and tools for the mod. The upgrade uses a smithing template: the base slot takes netherite armor, a weapon or a tool, and the additions slot takes a Reinforced Echo Shard. There is an advancement for reinforcing an Echo Shard, and another for wearing a full set of Warden Armor.[1][7]
Sculk-themed extras
- Catalysis is an enchantment that spreads sculk when mobs are killed.[7]
- Sculk Smite is an enchantment that increases damage against sculk mobs such as Shattered and the Warden.[7]
- The Sculk Transmitter has a tooltip that shows the coordinates it is located at. There is also an advancement for acquiring one.[7]
- Crystallized Amber can have a tooltip saying it contains a Sculk Leech.[7]
- As the project page currently describes it, the mod adds 8 new mobs, including a miniboss, and an upgrade to the elytra.[1]
Crafting the building blocks
The project page currently says the mod adds over a hundred blocks, including gloomslate, sculk stone and a new wood type.[1]
The recipes shown for these blocks are plain crafting recipes listed as the mod's own, and the sources show no pack changes to them. Only part of the full recipe list is visible to me.[8]
Bloom wood gives you the usual set of building pieces, such as Bloom Door, Bloom Fence and Bloom Boat. The planks are the starting point.[8]
Bloom Planks accept any item from the bloom stems tag.
Boats with chests have their own recipe, so you can make one by combining a boat with a chest. Echo wood has boat and chest boat recipes as well.[8]
The stone types, gloomslate and sculk stone, come in cobbled, smooth, cut and chiseled forms, such as Cobbled Gloomslate, Cobbled Sculk Stone, Cut Gloomslate and Cut Sculk Stone. Slabs, stairs and walls exist for the cobbled and cut versions.[8]

How do you progress through Deeper and Darker?
3 parts
Deeper and Darker gives you a Resonarium gear line and a Warden gear line in this pack. The quest book ranks Warden higher: its pickaxe quest is Tier 5 and its sword quest is 9 Attack Damage, against Tier 4 and 7 Attack Damage for Resonarium. You can follow the quests as a checklist.[4]
Resonarium tools
The Resonarium Pickaxe is one of the pickaxes that completes the Tier 4 quest a quest in "Basic Tools" in the Basic Tools chapter. That quest also accepts pickaxes from other mods. The Resonarium Sword does the same for the 7 Attack Damage quest a quest in "Basic Tools", which also accepts other swords.[4]
Both tools are smithing recipes that use a Resonarium Plate. Here are the pack's recipes.[6]

Warden tools and armor
The top tier is Warden gear. The Warden Pickaxe completes the Tier 5 quest a quest in "Basic Tools", and the Warden Sword completes the 9 Attack Damage quest a quest in "Basic Tools". Both quests sit in the Basic Tools chapter, and both also accept items from other mods in some cases, so check the quest's task list.[4]
Warden gear is made through smithing upgrades. Here is how the Reinforced Echo Shard is crafted, followed by the tool upgrades.[6]

The Warden Armor quest "Warden Armor" quest asks for the full set. It pitches the set as an upgrade from Netherite armor and warns that you will need a few Warden drops to make it. The four smithing recipes are below.[5][6]
Heart of the Deep
The quest "Heart of the Deep" quest follows the Deeper and Darker quest and sits in the Chapter 3: The ATM Star chapter. When a Warden dies, it has a chance to drop a Heart of the Deep. You can use it for the ATM Star, or to activate the Portal in the Ancient City.[3]
How does Deeper and Darker work with other mods?
4 parts
Deeper and Darker isn't a standalone island in this pack. Its items show up in recipes from other mods, and its wood and tools are slotted into quests that cover other mods too. Here is what the pack's recipes and quests confirm.[4][6]
Heart of the Deep and the Wither's Compass
The Heart of the Deep is the most important crossover item. A quest in the ATM Star chapter says a Warden has a chance to drop it when it dies, and that it can be used for the ATM Star or to activate the Portal in the Ancient City. The Portal must be empty to activate, and that includes Sculk. See "Heart of the Deep" quest.[3]
The pack also adds a shaped recipe for the Wither's Compass that needs the Heart of the Deep. The rest of the recipe comes from other mods, so you will need to branch out beyond the Otherside to make it.[6]

Sawing Deeper and Darker wood
The pack adds machine sawing recipes for the mod's wood. In Mekanism's sawing recipe, Bloom stems give you Bloom Planks plus Sawdust.[6]

Productive Trees' sawmill also has pack-added recipes. One turns Bloom stems into Bloom Planks. The other turns Echo logs into Echo Planks. Both use Sawdust in the recipe.[6]

BiblioCraft furniture in Bloom and Echo wood
If you like decorating, BiblioCraft furniture comes in Bloom and Echo variants. The pack's recipe data shows these recipes as changed by the pack, and they use Bloom Slab or Echo Slab as the wood part. The items covered include display cases, seats and several seat backs: small, flat, raised, fancy and tall. The colors confirmed in the sources are black, blue, brown, cyan and gray. Here is the Black Bloom Seat as an example.[6]

Quests that mix Deeper and Darker with other mods
The Basic Tools chapter puts the mod's gear next to tools from other dimensions. One Tier 4 pickaxe quest accepts the Resonarium Pickaxe or a pickaxe from Eternal Starlight, Aquaculture or Undergarden. See a quest in "Basic Tools". A Tier 5 quest accepts the Warden Pickaxe or Undergarden's forgotten pickaxe. See a quest in "Basic Tools".[4]
The sword quests work the same way. The quest labeled 7 Attack Damage accepts the Resonarium Sword, Undergarden's forgotten sword or Undergarden's cloggrum sword. See a quest in "Basic Tools". The quest labeled 9 Attack Damage asks for the Warden Sword. See a quest in "Basic Tools".[4]
The Basic Armor chapter has the Warden Armor quest. It asks for the Warden Helmet, Warden Chestplate, Warden Leggings and Warden Boots. The quest text pitches it as an upgrade over Netherite and warns you will need a few Warden drops to make it. See "Warden Armor" quest.[5]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Deeper and Darker?
3 parts
Deeper and Darker shows up in three quest chapters: Basic Tools, Basic Armor and Chapter 3: The ATM Star. Most of it is about the Warden and the gear you get from it.[3][4][5]
Basic Tools
Four quests in this chapter involve the mod. All four come after the chapter's Basic Tools! quest, and the sources don't put them in any order among themselves. Some of them let you pick between items from different mods.[4]
- a quest in "Basic Tools" is labelled Tier: 4. You hand in one of four pickaxes, and Resonarium Pickaxe is one of them. The others come from Eternal Starlight, Aquaculture and Undergarden.[4]
- a quest in "Basic Tools" is labelled 7 Attack Damage. It takes Resonarium Sword, or an Undergarden forgotten sword or cloggrum sword.[4]
- a quest in "Basic Tools" is labelled 9 Attack Damage. It asks specifically for the Warden Sword.[4]
- a quest in "Basic Tools" is labelled Tier: 5. You can hand in either the Undergarden forgotten pickaxe or the Warden Pickaxe.[4]
Basic Armor
"Warden Armor" quest is labelled 24 and asks for the full set: Warden Helmet, Warden Chestplate, Warden Leggings and Warden Boots. The quest text pitches it as an alternative to upgrading Netherite to Allthemodium or anything else, and warns that you'll need a few Warden drops to make it.[5]
Chapter 3: The ATM Star
"Heart of the Deep" quest comes after the Deeper and Darker quest in this chapter and asks for the Heart of the Deep. When a Warden dies, it has a chance to drop one. You can use it for the ATM Star, or to activate the Portal in the Ancient City.[3]
Which Deeper and Darker config options matter?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Deeper and Darker's project page is all about content, not settings. The mod adds a new dimension called the Otherside, which you enter by killing the warden and using its heart. It also brings new biomes, over a hundred new blocks, a warden set of armor and tools, and 8 new mobs, including a miniboss.[1]
Unverified We couldn't confirm which config options Deeper and Darker offers in All the Mods 10 8.1, or how this pack sets them. The pack's config files for this mod weren't available, so this section can't say which values the pack changed from the mod defaults. If you want to tweak anything, check the mod's config file in your own instance.
What changed in Deeper and Darker between versions?
1 part
Deeper and Darker has been part of All the Mods 10 for a long time: it was first included in All the Mods 10 2.2 or earlier. In All the Mods 10 4.11 you're playing version 1.3.5, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]
Updates in the pack
- All the Mods 10 2.47 updated Deeper and Darker from 1.3.4 to 1.3.5.[9]
- All the Mods 10 4.11 still ships Deeper and Darker 1.3.5, so the mod version hasn't changed since the 2.47 update.[2][9]
Unverified The specific changes between Deeper and Darker 1.3.4 and 1.3.5 (bug fixes, balance tweaks or new content) aren't covered here, because the mod's own changelogs weren't available. Check the mod's release notes if you want the details.
