Botany Pots is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 21.1.44. Adds pots that you can use to grow crops! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Botany Pots?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Botany Pots adds the Botany Pot, a block that grows all kinds of crops. You can use it as decoration, or to make farming certain crops much easier. The mod was inspired by Davenonymous's Bonsai Trees mod.[1]

The pack includes Botany Pots 21.1.44 for NeoForge 1.21.1. It was first included in an earlier version of the pack, 4.6 or before.[2]

What it gives you

  • Harvesting a crop in a pot automatically replants the seed.[1]
  • A Hopper upgrade lets the pot harvest itself and push items into a chest or another block with an inventory.[1]
  • Pots come in seventeen different colors.[1]
  • Crops, soils and fertilizers are defined through datapacks, and CraftTweaker can remove, modify or add them.[1]

How it works in practice

Craft a pot, then pick the crop you want and a soil that suits it. Wheat grows in dirt, for example, and nether wart grows in soul sand. Right click the pot with the soil first, then with the seed, and growth starts.[1]

Growth takes a while, but bone meal and other fertilizers speed it up. When the crop is ready, right click it to harvest and replant in one go. To take items out of the pot, sneak and right click with an empty hand, or just break the block.[1]

Who it is for

It suits anyone who wants low-effort, compact farms, or a nicer-looking way to grow crops. The simple right-click workflow makes it easy to start, and the Hopper upgrade covers automation.[1]

Unverified The sources do not show where Botany Pots fits in this pack's progression. They do not show it on the ATM Star path, in any quests, or in any guidebook. The project page lists crop support for several other mods, but the sources do not confirm which of those are in this pack or whether the pack changes any recipes or values.

How do you get started with Botany Pots?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Botany Pots lets you grow crops inside a pot block. The big perk is that harvesting a crop automatically replants the seed. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]

Step one: craft a Botany Pot

Everything starts with the pot itself. This pack has pot variants in terracotta, glazed terracotta, concrete and brick, so pick the look you like. The Brick version, Brick Botany Pot, is a good example to start with.[3]

This is the in-pack recipe for the Brick pot. The other materials have their own recipes.

Step two: pick a soil and a seed

Next, think about what you want to grow and which soil it needs. There are many soil blocks, and certain crops need certain soils. Wheat grows in dirt, for example, and nether wart grows in soul sand. If a crop doesn't suit the soil, its tooltip tells you it can't be planted there.[1][4]

Step three: plant, grow and harvest

  1. Right click the pot with your soil first.[1]
  2. Right click it again with your seed to start the growth process.[1]
  3. Be patient, or speed things up by right clicking with bone meal or another fertilizer.[1]
  4. When the crop is finished, right click it to harvest. The pot plants another one for you.[1]
Tip: To take items back out of a pot, sneak and right click the block with an empty hand. Breaking the block works too.[1]

Finally: automate it with a Hopper Botany Pot

Once manual farming gets tedious, make a hopper pot. The Hopper Botany Pot upgrade lets the pot harvest itself and put the items into a chest or another block with an inventory. In this pack you can upgrade a pot you already have, or use the quick recipe that makes the hopper pot in one go. The Brick one is Brick Hopper Botany Pot.[1][3]

How does Botany Pots work?

4 parts

Botany Pots is a simple mod on the surface: a pot, a soil, a seed, and a crop that grows in the pot. Everything below comes from the mod's own description and the pack's recipes. The sources here show no pack-specific changes to the pot mechanics, so what follows is how the mod describes itself.[1][5]

Planting and growing

  1. Craft a pot and place it. Which crop you grow decides which soil it needs. The mod's own examples are wheat in dirt and nether wart in soul sand.[1]
  2. Right click the pot with your soil first, then right click with your seed. That starts the growth process.[1]
  3. Wait for the crop to grow, or speed it up by right clicking with bone meal or other fertilizers.[1]
  4. When the crop is done, right click it to harvest. The seed is replanted automatically, so you never have to re-seed by hand.[1]

To take items back out of a pot, sneak and right click it with an empty hand. Breaking the block works too.[1]

Tip: Soil and seed go in separately, soil first. If a seed will not go in, check that you gave the pot a soil that crop accepts.[1]

Hopper pots and automation

The Hopper Botany Pot upgrade is the mod's automation step. A hopper pot harvests itself and pushes the items into a chest or any other block with an inventory. Combined with the automatic replanting, that gives you a hands-free crop loop.[1]

Every pot colour and material comes in a plain, a hopper and a waxed version, for example Black Botany Pot, Black Hopper Botany Pot and Black Waxed Botany Pot. The mod calls the pots usable for decoration as well as farming.[1][5]

Crafting the pot variants

The plain pot is a shaped recipe that combines a terracotta, concrete or other block with a flower pot. Black terracotta is the example here, and the other variants follow the same pattern.[5]

The hopper version has two recipes. One is a shapeless upgrade of a pot you already have. The other, marked quick, builds the hopper pot directly in one shaped craft.[5]

Crops, soils and fertilizers are data

The mod does not hard-code what you can grow. Crops, soils and fertilizers are defined in datapack JSON files, and the mod also supports CraftTweaker for removing, modifying and adding them. That is why other mods can add their own crops to the pots.[1]

The pack's language file also names two Botany Pot attributes, Growth and Yield.[4]

How do you progress through Botany Pots?

4 parts

The pack's quest book has no Botany Pots progression for you to follow, so this section follows the in-pack recipes. Every pot comes in a material (bricks, deepslate bricks, or plain, glazed and concrete versions of colours such as black, blue, brown and cyan) and in standard, hopper and waxed forms. The recipes for every material follow the same pattern, so you can learn it once.[5]

Unverified Whether any quest chapter in the pack mentions Botany Pots is not shown in the sources here, so this guide does not place the mod on a quest path.

Standard pot

Each material starts with a shaped crafting recipe for its standard pot. The Brick Botany Pot below is the example, and the other materials work the same way. You use the matching block for the material you want, such as terracotta, glazed terracotta or concrete in your chosen colour.[5]

Hopper pot

A hopper pot such as Brick Hopper Botany Pot has a shapeless upgrade recipe that starts from a finished standard pot. It also has a shaped recipe marked "quick" that builds the hopper pot directly from raw parts, so you can skip crafting the standard pot first.[5]

Waxed pot

A waxed pot such as Brick Waxed Botany Pot is made from a finished standard pot with a shapeless recipe.[5]

The waxed pot is made from the finished standard pot.

How big is the pot family?

The pack has 122 shaped crafting recipes and 122 shapeless crafting recipes for these pots, and each recipe makes a different result. The pattern is the same everywhere, so once you know the brick example you know them all.[5]

The loot tables for the black concrete, black terracotta and brick pots, in standard, hopper and waxed forms, simply drop the pot itself when it is broken and survives an explosion.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]

What changed in Botany Pots between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10 8.3 ships Botany Pots 21.1.44. The mod was added to the pack in 4.6, and the pack changelogs show it being updated several times since. Here is what changed along the way.[15][16]

  • All the Mods 10 4.6: Botany Pots 21.1.34 was added to the pack. That release left the beta and started publishing public releases, plus some project file cleanup.[16][17]
  • All the Mods 10 4.7: updated from 21.1.34 to 21.1.38. The mod's changelog for 21.1.38 lists Ukrainian localizations.[18][19]
  • All the Mods 10 4.11: updated from 21.1.38 to 21.1.40. The 21.1.40 fix stops the config from being loaded again during recipe loading.[20][21]
  • All the Mods 10 4.13: updated from 21.1.40 to 21.1.41. The mod's changelog for 21.1.41 only mentions updated build dependencies.[22][23]
  • All the Mods 10 7.1: updated from 21.1.41 to 21.1.44, the version the pack still uses in 8.3.[15][24]

What changed for you in 21.1.44

The 21.1.44 changelog is the one with gameplay-facing changes. Coral drops no longer have tool requirements, and their loot tables were simplified. The loot tables for tall and short grass and for tall and short ferns were also changed, so they drop items without silk touch.[25]

The 7.1 update jumped straight from 21.1.41 to 21.1.44, so the 21.1.44 notes above are the only mod changelog I have for that stretch.[24][25]
