What is Farmer's Delight?

3 parts

Farmer's Delight is a cozy expansion to farming and cooking. It gently builds on the vanilla farming loop, so you can turn familiar ingredients into a wide variety of hearty meals using a simple cooking system.[1]

The food ranges from sandwiches and salads to stews, desserts and full feasts. The mod is built so that no ingredient gets left behind in your kitchen.[1]

What else it adds

  • A way to improve the soil your crops grow in.[1]
  • New tools and weapons for hunting and gathering.[1]
  • Decorations for your builds, plus many other blocks and items to help along the way.[1]

Who it is for

If you like a relaxed side of modded Minecraft, with food and farming that feel like part of your base, this mod is for you. It is a good fit for anyone who wants cooking to be more than eating raw crops and bread.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Farmer's Delight 1.3.3, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Tip: The mod's own advancements explain many of the basic concepts and are a good place to start. Pick up any item, then press L (the default key) to open the Advancements screen.[1]

How do you get started with Farmer's Delight?

6 parts

Farmer's Delight is all about farming and cooking, and it's a gentle mod to start with. The mod's own advice is to follow its advancements, which explain the basics. Pick up any item, then press the L key (by default) to open the Advancements screen. Here's the order I'd tackle things in.[1]

Make a Cutting Board

Start with the Cutting Board. With a tool in hand, you use it on the board to break an item down.[3]

Craft a Knife

Next comes the Flint Knife. The mod describes a knife as the tool for scavenging extra goods from plants and animals. Harvesting grass, wheat or rice with a knife gives you Straw, and a knife can also extract Ham from Pigs or Hoglins.[3][4]

Cook something easy

You don't need the pot for every dish. The Egg Sandwich is a simple shapeless crafting table recipe, so it's a quick first meal.[4]

Look at your farms

Once the kitchen is running, the advancements point you to the farming side. You can plant Rice in a shallow water puddle. Organic Compost slowly decays into Rich Soil, an upgrade for your farms. Hanging rope above a tomato crop makes it grow taller.[3]

How does Farmer's Delight work?

6 parts

This section covers the mod's cooking station, its cutting station, the handheld tools and the soil upgrade, as far as the sources explain them.[3]

The Cooking Pot

The Cooking Pot is where you prepare meals. One of the mod's advancements asks you to put one down and start preparing meals. If the matching option is enabled, its interface provides a Recipe Book like the one on Crafting Tables and Furnaces.[3]

A pot's tooltip reads "Holds %s servings of:" followed by the dish. Some meals are big enough to be placed down and shared with friends, which is what the "place feast" advancement is about.[3]

The mod's meals stack to 16. One option can give vanilla soups and stews the same stacking, and another option can make vanilla soups and stews grant Nourishment when eaten.[3]

The Cutting Board

Put a Cutting Board down, then use it with a tool in hand to break an item down.[3]

A few options affect it. When the dispenser option is enabled, a Dispenser can operate a Cutting Board in front of itself, using stored items as cutting tools. Another option sets how much each level of Fortune increases the odds of rare results on the board, and 0.0 disables the bonus.[3]

Knives, Straw and Skillets

The Knife is a lightweight melee weapon with fast swings and gentle damage. The in-game description says it can harvest Straw from grasses and guarantee secondary drops from animals. It is also the tool for extracting Ham from Pigs or Hoglins, and you can upgrade a Knife by spending a whole Netherite Ingot.[3]

Straw is used to craft Canvas. Canvas is then used for things like the Canvas Rug, the Canvas Sign and the Bamboo Basket.[3][4]

CanvasMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: farmersdelight:canvas

The Skillet lets you cook on the go: stand near heat and hold the food in your other hand. Sneak to place the Skillet down as a block. A Campfire is another way to cook food.[3]

Dough works a little differently from what you might expect. Wheat can be turned into Dough by crafting it with a Water Bucket, and the bucket's water isn't depleted.[3]

Soil, Compost and Crops

Organic Compost slowly decays into Rich Soil, an upgrade for your farms. It composts better with sun, water and mushrooms. The recipe viewer lists the decomposition as sped up by adjacent water and by adjacent activators.[3]

An option sets the chance that Rich Soil gives a bone meal boost to a crop planted on it, and 0.0 disables it. Shearing a fully mature Mushroom Colony needs a very rich soil to grow them that way.[3]

Rice is planted in a shallow water puddle. Hanging rope above a tomato crop makes it grow taller. If the matching option is enabled, you can reel rope back from bottom to top by sneak-using on it with an empty hand.[3]

Another option lets tomato crops climb any rope tagged as farmersdelight:ropes, and the mod warns that enabling it converts those blocks into the block set as the default tomato vine rope.[3]

Storage Crates

An option makes storage crates (3x3) for vanilla crops craftable. In this pack, the Carrot Crate and Beetroot Crate recipes are changed from the mod's versions, so use the recipes below.[3][4]

The Cabbage Crate recipe is the mod's own, and a separate recipe turns the crate back into Cabbage.[4]

Food Effects

Comfort provides natural regeneration, regardless of how hungry you are. Nourishment prevents the food meter from decreasing, except when healing with saturation.[3]

Unverified Which of the options above are enabled in this pack is set in the mod's config files, and the sources here do not show those files.

How do you progress through Farmer's Delight?

6 parts

Unverified The sources here show no quests for Farmer's Delight in this pack, and the mod is not on the ATM Star quest path. The progression below follows the in-pack crafting recipes instead.

Cutting board and flint

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Farmer's Delight?

2 parts

Farmer's Delight has one quest in the pack, and it sits in the Building Tips chapter, not in a farming or cooking chapter. That chapter has 91 quests and is about decorating and building, so the quest treats the mod as a source of kitchen and farm decor as well as food.[5]

The quest

The quest is "Farmer's Delight" quest. It is an item task, and the chapter data doesn't name the specific item. Its text describes the mod as being about farming and cooking food items, which you can also use for decoration. It points out the Stove, Pots and Pans as perfect for a kitchen, the Food Barrels as great for a pantry, the farm stuff as good outdoor decor, and the Cabinets as fine anywhere.[5]

Where it sits in the chapter

The quest runs in a straight line from the top of the chapter. You start at "Building Tips!" quest, which leads to "Decoration!" quest. That one leads to "Decor Mods!" quest, and "Farmer's Delight" quest comes right after it.[5]

  1. "Building Tips!" quest is the chapter's opening quest.[5]
  2. "Decoration!" quest comes after it and introduces the idea that many mods add decoration.[5]
  3. "Decor Mods!" quest comes after that. It covers mods the author found perfect for decorating your house or base.[5]
  4. "Farmer's Delight" quest is the Farmer's Delight quest.[5]

Farmer's Delight shares its parent quest with several other decor mods, such as "Cooking for Blockheads" quest, "Sushi Go Crafting" quest, "Handcrafted" quest, "Storage Delight" quest and "Macaw's Furniture" quest. They all come after Decor Mods!, so you can do them in any order.[5]

Nothing else in this chapter depends on the Farmer's Delight quest, so you can skip it without blocking any other quest in the chapter.[5]
