What is AdvancedAE?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.58 guide

AdvancedAE is an Applied Energistics 2 addon built around convenience and quality of life for your ME system. Instead of adding a new storage network from scratch, it bolts extra utilities onto the one you already run, with a strong focus on late-game automation and crafting throughput.[1][2]

This pack ships AdvancedAE 0.4.5 for Minecraft 1.21.1, and the mod has been part of the pack since at least the 0.46 release.[3]

What you get

  • The Advanced Extended Pattern Provider, which lets you pick exactly which face of a machine each ingredient in a pattern is pushed to, so side-sensitive machines can be automated with one block and no pipes. You encode that face data with the Advanced Pattern Encoder.[1][4][5]
  • The Quantum Computer, a crafting computer multiblock that runs an unlimited number of crafting jobs as long as crafting storage holds out, with every job sharing all the co-processors in the structure.[1][6]
  • The Quantum Crafter, an autocrafter that performs crafting operations every tick straight out of your ME inventory, including recursive crafts and crafts with non-consumed ingredients.[1]
  • The Quantum Armor Set, which links to your ME system for flight without inertia, night vision, a magnet, auto feeding from ME storage and damage immunities, on top of being strong defensively.[1]
  • The Reaction Chamber, a power-hungry machine that forces chemical reactions with a catalyst fluid and gives more efficient processing recipes, including ones for other mods.[1][7]
  • Network conveniences like the Stock Export Bus, which keeps an exact amount stocked in a target inventory and accepts a crafting card, and the ME Throughput Monitor for watching item, fluid and FE Cell energy rates.[1]

Where it fits

Treat AdvancedAE as an after-AE2 mod. You need a working ME system with pattern providers and processing patterns before any of it matters, and the Reaction Chamber is the gateway machine: its outputs feed the rest of the AdvancedAE progression while also giving you efficient recipes for materials from other mods.[1][4][5][7]

Tip: If your patterns already live in regular AE2 or ExtendedAE pattern providers, you do not have to rebuild them. The Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade converts a provider in place while keeping its current slot count, and the Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade takes a regular provider straight to an advanced one with 36 pattern slots.[8]

How do you get started with AdvancedAE?

4 parts

This mod is an AE2 addon built around convenience: smarter pattern providers, and an end-game crafting multiblock. You don't need to do it all at once, and there's no quest line pushing you along, so work through it in two stages: pattern providers first, quantum computer much later.[1][2]

Step 1: Advanced Pattern Providers

The headline feature is the ME Advanced Pattern Provider. It behaves like a normal pattern provider, but each individual item in a pattern can be aimed at a specific face of the machine in front of it. That means you can automate machines with picky input sides using a single block and no pipes at all.[1][9]

There are two sizes. The smaller version upgrades a regular ME Pattern Provider, and the larger one upgrades an Extended Pattern Provider from ExtendedAE. Start with whichever one you already have sitting on your machines.[9][10]

Tip: Both versions flip freely between block and cable part form with a single shapeless craft, so you never have to rebuild if you change your mind about how it's mounted.[10]

Step 2: The Advanced Pattern Encoder

An Advanced Pattern Provider on its own does nothing special until you feed it advanced patterns, and those come from the Advanced Pattern Encoder. Right-click it in hand to open its GUI, drop an encoded processing pattern into the left slot, and it lists every raw ingredient with a row of buttons for each block face.[9][11]

Leave a row on the "A" button to send that ingredient to whatever face is directly connected to the provider, or pick a specific face to force it there. Then take the advanced pattern out and put it in your provider.[11][12]

Watch out: Only Advanced Pattern Providers can decode these patterns; in any other pattern provider they just act like normal ones. Also, if even a single item can't fit in the face you picked, the provider falls back to standard behaviour and inserts nothing directionally.[11]

Upgrading without unloading everything

If you've already got providers full of patterns and cards, you don't have to break them down. The Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade converts a regular AE2 provider or an ExtendedAE Extended Pattern Provider in place, keeping the slot count it already had, so the materials you spent on the extended version aren't wasted.[13]

The Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade goes further and takes a regular Pattern Provider straight up to an advanced one with 36 pattern slots. It's made in ExtendedAE's Crystal Assembler rather than a crafting grid.[10][13]

Step 3: Working toward the Quantum Computer

The Quantum Computer is the late-game goal: a crafting computer that can run an unlimited number of crafting jobs as long as it has crafting storage left, with every job sharing all the co-processors in the multiblock, all on a single channel.[1][6]

Everything in that tree starts from the Quantum Crafting Unit, so this is your first real milestone once you're deep into AE2 and ExtendedAE.[10]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: advanced_ae:quantumunit

From there you build outward: Quantum Crafting Units become accelerators and storage blocks, and those in turn feed into the Quantum Core. Note that the pack has changed the recipes for the core and the 128M storage block, so check them in-game rather than relying on the mod's defaults.[10]

A single Quantum Core already works as a standalone computer with 256M of crafting storage and 8 co-processor threads, powered through its Up or Down sides where the connectors are. That's a perfectly good stopping point before you commit to a full multiblock.[6]

Tip: When you're ready to scale up, Quantum Computer Structure blocks are the framing that ties the multiblock together and fills any empty spaces inside it, so they're worth mass-producing early.[6]

How does AdvancedAE work?

6 parts

AdvancedAE is an AE2 addon focused on quality of life and end-game systems. Its two headline systems are pattern providers that can push each ingredient to a specific face of a machine, and a multiblock Quantum Computer that runs an unlimited number of crafting jobs as long as it has crafting storage left, with every job sharing all the co-processors in the structure.[1][2]

Directional pattern providers

The Advanced Extended Pattern Provider is a new type of pattern provider that upgrades a standard or extended provider with the ability to choose which face each individual item in a pattern gets pushed to. That means machines which demand specific sides for specific inputs can be automated with a single block and no pipes at all.[9]

The routing information lives in the pattern, not the provider, so you need the Advanced Pattern Encoder to write it. Right-click with it in hand to open its GUI, drop an encoded processing pattern into the left slot, and the encoder decodes it and lists every raw ingredient as its own row. Each row has a set of buttons for the possible block faces, and you take the advanced version of the pattern back out when you're done.[9][11]

Leaving a row on the "A" button targets whatever face is directly adjacent to the pattern provider, which is the normal behaviour. Picking a specific button instead forces the item into the up, down, north, south, east or west face of the target machine.[11][12]

Watch out: Advanced patterns are only decoded properly by advanced pattern providers; in any other type of provider they behave like a normal pattern. Also, if even a single item can't be inserted into its specified face, nothing is inserted directionally and the provider falls back to standard pattern provider behaviour.[11]

There are two sizes. The full-size Advanced Extended Pattern Provider is built from an extended provider, while the Advanced Pattern Provider is the nine-slot version built from a plain ME Pattern Provider.[10]

Both sizes exist as a block and as a cable part, and you can convert freely between the two forms with a shapeless craft in either direction, so you're never stuck with the wrong shape.[10]

Upgrading providers in place

You don't have to tear out and rebuild your existing providers. The Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade works on regular AE2 Pattern Providers and on ExtendedAE's Extended Pattern Providers, turning them into the advanced version while keeping the same number of slots, so the materials you spent going from regular to extended aren't wasted.[13]

The Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade goes a step further and upgrades a regular Pattern Provider directly into an Advanced Pattern Provider with 36 pattern slots.[13]

The Quantum Computer

The Quantum Computer is a special kind of crafting computer. Instead of being limited by CPU count, it can run an unlimited number of crafting requests as long as it has enough crafting storage, and all of those concurrent jobs share every co-processor in the multiblock. The whole thing only consumes a single channel.[1][6]

The Quantum Computer Core is the heart of the system. On its own it provides 256M of crafting storage and 8 co-processor threads, and it's the only block that can form a working quantum computer by itself. As a standalone computer, power has to be supplied through the up or down side, where the connectors are.[6]

Watch out: The in-game guide says each accelerator adds 8 co-processors, but the accelerator's own tooltip says it provides 4 co-processing threads per block. Check the numbers on your own computer before you plan a big build around them.[6][12]

Building the multiblock

  • The maximum size is 5x5x5.[6]
  • No empty spaces are allowed inside the multiblock.[6]
  • Exactly one Quantum Computer Core.[6]
  • At most one Quantum Data Entangler and at most one Quantum Computer Multi-Threader.[6]

Unverified The guide also lists rules about which block must make up the outer layer and which block isn't allowed on the inside, but the block names are missing from the text available here. Open the multiblock preview in the in-game guide before you commit to a layout.

Pack changes to the Quantum Computer

This pack rewrites part of the Quantum Computer's material chain. The recipes for the Quantum Computer Core and the 128M Quantum Computer Storage have both been changed from their mod defaults, and the Quantum Data Entangler and Quantum Computer Multi-Threader are pack-added recipes made in the ExtendedAE Crystal Assembler rather than on a crafting bench.[10]

Other systems in the mod

  • Quantum Crafter: an auto crafter that performs a series of crafting operations every tick while accessing the ME system's inventory directly. It handles recursive crafting such as smithing templates, and crafts with a non-consumed ingredient like Mystical Agriculture essence upgrading. You can configure it to keep stacks of an ingredient so it doesn't eat all of it, or limit the end product to keep an amount in stock.[1]
  • Reaction Chamber: a machine that uses a ton of power to provide very efficient processing. It's used to create items needed to progress in AdvancedAE and also offers efficient recipes for other mods.[1]
  • Stock Export Bus: an export bus that reads the target inventory and regulates an exact amount to be kept in it at all times, as long as the ME system has the items. It accepts a crafting card so it can craft what it needs.[1]
  • ME Throughput Monitor: tracks how a resource is developing on your system, including items, fluids and energy in FE Cells from AppliedFlux. To track fluids or energy, right-click it twice with a container holding the ingredient you want. Right-clicking with the Throughput Monitor Configurator cycles the scale between per tick, per second and per minute.[1]
  • Quantum Armor Set: an armor set that connects to the ME system to power its features. It's strong defensively and includes flight with no inertia, night vision, a magnet, auto feeding straight from ME storage and immunity to various damage sources.[1]

How do you progress through AdvancedAE?

2 parts

AdvancedAE has two upgrade paths: smarter pattern providers, and the Quantum Computer, a crafting computer that can run an unlimited number of crafting requests as long as it has crafting storage left. You can follow either one on its own, and each is a chain of crafts that builds on the previous step. The order below follows the in-pack recipes.[2][6][10]

Advanced pattern providers

This path lets a single provider push specific ingredients into specific faces of a machine, with no pipes. It's great for machines that need particular inputs on particular sides.[9]

  1. Craft the Advanced Pattern Encoder. Right-click with it in hand to open its GUI, insert an encoded processing pattern, and choose a face for each ingredient. Leaving the selection on "A" sends the item to whatever face is directly connected to the provider.[10][11]
  2. Make a provider to receive those patterns. The Advanced Pattern Provider is the 9-slot version.[10]
  3. Step up to the full Advanced Extended Pattern Provider.[9][10]
  4. Or skip rebuilding. The Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade converts regular Pattern Providers and ExtendedAE Extended Pattern Providers in place, keeping the slot count they had.[13]
  5. The Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade turns a regular Pattern Provider directly into an Advanced Pattern Provider with 36 pattern slots.[13]

Watch out: Advanced patterns only work directionally in an Advanced Pattern Provider. In any other provider they behave like normal patterns. If even one item can't be inserted into its chosen face, nothing is inserted directionally and standard provider behavior is used instead.[11]

The Quantum Computer

The Quantum Computer is a multiblock with a maximum size of 5x5x5. The in-pack recipes set the build order, and the pack has changed or added several of them, as noted below.[6][10]

  1. Start with the building blocks: the Quantum Crafting Unit and the Quantum Computer Structural Glass. The structure blocks provide the framing and connect everything together.[6][10]
  2. Add the Quantum Computer Accelerator. Each one adds 8 co-processors to the multiblock, and every crafting pattern the computer runs shares all of them.[6][10]
  3. Build storage with the 128M Quantum Computer Storage (128M), then upgrade to the 256M Quantum Computer Storage (256M). The pack changed the 128M recipe from the mod's version.[6][10]
  4. Craft the Quantum Computer Core. By itself it has 256M of crafting storage and 8 co-processor threads, and it's the only block that can form a working quantum computer on its own. In the pack, its recipe is changed from the mod's version.[6][10]
  5. Finish with the multiplier blocks, the Quantum Data Entangler and the Quantum Computer Multi-Threader. Both recipes are added by the pack and are made in the Crystal Assembler.[6][10]

Tip: The Data Entangler multiplies the storage of every storage block in the multiblock by 4, and the Multi-Threader multiplies the co-processing power of the accelerators by 4. You can only place one of each in a quantum computer multiblock, so they make a great final upgrade.[6]

If you run the Core as a standalone computer, power has to come in through its Up or Down sides, where the connectors are. In a multiblock, every block on the outside layer must be a structure block, and empty spaces inside can't be left open.[6]

How does AdvancedAE work with other mods?

3 parts

AdvancedAE is an AE2 addon, so almost everything it adds is built from AE2 parts. In this pack it also connects to ExtendedAE and MEGA Cells, and the pack adds its own custom items and recipes on top. Here's how the pieces fit together.[1][10]

Pattern providers: AE2 and ExtendedAE

The Advanced Extended Pattern Provider is crafted from an ExtendedAE ME Extended Pattern Provider, so it sits on top of both mods. If you only want the smaller version, the Advanced Pattern Provider is built from a plain AE2 ME Pattern Provider instead.[10]

You don't have to rebuild your setup to switch. The Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade works on regular Pattern Providers and on ExtendedAE's Extended Pattern Providers. It keeps the same number of slots they already had.[13]

The Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade upgrades regular Pattern Providers directly to an Advanced Pattern Provider with 36 pattern slots. In this pack it is made in ExtendedAE's Crystal Assembler.[10][13]

The Advanced Pattern Encoder is made from AE2 components, so you can get it without touching ExtendedAE.[10]

Quantum Computer: AE2, ExtendedAE and MEGA Cells

The Quantum Computer is where the cross-mod links get deepest. The Quantum Computer Structural Glass uses AE2's Quartz Glass and Sky Stone. The Quantum Crafting Unit starts from an AE2 Crafting Unit and also needs ExtendedAE's Concurrent Processor.[10]

The Quantum Computer Accelerator pulls in AE2's Quantum Entangled Singularity along with ExtendedAE's Concurrent Processor. Each accelerator adds 8 co-processors to the multiblock.[6][10]

The pack changed the recipe for the 128M Quantum Computer Storage. It now uses the MEGA Cells MEGA Bulk Storage Component, so you need MEGA Cells parts before you can expand quantum storage. The 256M Quantum Computer Storage recipe is the mod's own and builds on the 128M storage.[10]

Pack-specific changes and additions

The pack changed the Quantum Computer Core recipe so that it needs the pack's own kubejs:shattered_singularity. Keep in mind that the core on its own gives 256M of crafting storage and 8 co-processor threads.[6][10]

The pack also adds recipes for the Quantum Data Entangler and the Quantum Computer Multi-Threader. Both are made in ExtendedAE's Crystal Assembler and use the Shattered Singularity. The Data Entangler multiplies storage by 4 and the Multi-Threader multiplies co-processing power by 4. You can only place one of each in a quantum computer multiblock.[6][10]
