What is Industrial Foregoing?

2 parts

Industrial Foregoing (IF for short) is a tech mod built to automate most of what you do in Minecraft. It covers mob and animal farming, plant farming, a suite of Infinity tools, big item and fluid storage with transporters, power generation, and enchantment sorting and creation. This pack ships version 1.21-3.6.38.[1][2][3]

It is a great fit if you like building machine lines that feed each other. The pack's quest chapter starts you off with a Pity Machine Frame through the quest "Industrial Foregoing" quest.[3]

Where it fits in the progression

Everything starts with latex. A Fluid Extractor pulls latex out of logs and runs faster with power. A Latex Processing Unit then turns 750 mB of latex and 500 mB of water into 1 Dry Rubber. Smelt that rubber to get Plastic, which the quests call the main resource of the mod.[3][4][5]

Tip: For latex, the quest book says the best logs to use are Acacia or Mangrove. Check JEI for the full list of valid logs and their latex amounts.[3]

Once you have plastic, the chapter opens up into branches: the Mob Slaughter Factory, animal machines, the Sewer, plant machines, and Bio Power with the Bioreactor and Biofuel Generator. The Dissolution Chamber is used to craft the more advanced machines.[3]

The ATM Star path

The ATM Star path version of this chapter marks the machine frames as tiers. The first quest is Tier 1, the Simple Machine Frame is Tier 2, the Advanced Machine Frame is Tier 3, and the Supreme Machine Frame is Tier 4.[3]

After the Advanced Machine Frame you reach the Laser Drill and Ore Laser Base. The quest calls the Ore Laser Base the mod's void miner, since it conjures ores out of thin air. The Fluid Laser Base then leads on to Ether Gas Bucket.[3]

IF also shows up in other chapters. The Mob Duplicator has a quest in the Apothic Spawners chapter, and the Mycelial Reactor has one in Basic Power.[6][7]

How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing?

3 parts

Industrial Foregoing (IF for short) is a tech mod that adds many machines with various different uses, and in this pack its main resource is Plastic. The in-game guide says getting plastic is one of the most important things in the mod, so the first steps below are all about getting there.[3][8]

The path to plastic

  1. Start the questline with "Industrial Foregoing" quest. It asks you to craft a Pity Machine Frame, which is the base for your first machines.[3]
  2. Make a Fluid Extractor and place it in front of a log. It pulls Latex out of the wood and works faster if you give it power. The quest suggests Acacia or Mangrove logs as the best choice, and JEI lists the exact latex amounts per log.[3][5]
  3. Make a Latex Processing Unit. It turns 750 mB of Latex and 500 mB of Water into 1 Dry Rubber.[3][4]
  4. Smelt the Dry Rubber to get Plastic. The quest calls plastic the main resource of the mod, and finishing it opens up a lot of machines.[3]
Tip: Logs get used up as the extractor works, so automating the latex loop is worth it. The quest for the Block Placer and Block Breaker points out that they are especially useful for automating latex.[3][5]

Power

The Pitiful Generator is the early power source. It makes a small amount of FE from burnable fuels like coal. It is very inefficient: it keeps burning fuel even when its energy buffer is full, so don't leave it stocked with fuel for nothing.[3][9]

What plastic unlocks

Once you have plastic, the pack's Conveyor Belt recipe becomes available. Conveyors move items, entities and fluids, and you can colour them with dye. Adding glowstone makes them very fast, and adding plastic stops items from being picked up off the belt. The pack changed this recipe from the mod default.[3][10][11]

The next big machine is the Dissolution Chamber. The quest nicknames it "The Crafting Table?" because it crafts the more advanced machines. It takes up to 8 items and 1 fluid, all shapeless, and the recipes you need are in JEI. Its own recipe was also changed by the pack.[3][11][12]

In the quest book, the Simple Machine Frame and the addons, which make machines better, both come after the Dissolution Chamber quest. The Advanced Machine Frame comes after the Simple Machine Frame and the Pink Slime & Liquid Meat quests. Pink Slime comes from the Mob Slaughter Factory, which turns mobs into Liquid Meat and Pink Slime. The Advanced Machine Frame is crafted in the Dissolution Chamber, and the pack changed that recipe from the mod default.[3][11][13]

How does Industrial Foregoing work?

8 parts

Industrial Foregoing is built to automate most of Minecraft's functions, and the in-game guide says getting plastic is one of the most important things in the mod. Master that first, because almost every machine and conveyor recipe in this pack asks for it.[1][8][11]

The latex route

Latex starts at the Fluid Extractor, which you place in front of a log. Several extractors can work on the same log at once. The machine eats the log, swaps it for the stripped version, then eats that too until it disappears. Each log type gives a different amount of latex, so check JEI for the rates. Power is optional, but it makes the extractor work faster.[5]

The Latex Processing Unit then takes 750mb of Latex and 500mb of Water to make 1 Dry Rubber. The in-game text isn't consistent here: the latex fluid entry and the mod's project page say the output is Tiny Dry Rubber, or tiny piles of rubber. Check the output in JEI.[1][4][14]

The machine and conveyor recipes in this pack's recipe dump are all marked as changed by the pack, so don't rely on crafting recipes from other packs or the mod's defaults. Here is the in-pack Conveyor Belt recipe.[11]

Addons

Many machines take addons that change how they run. Not every machine accepts every addon.[15]

  • Range: increases the range of machines that have a working area. Each tier adds 1. The machine tooltip shows the base area as width x height.[15][16]
  • Speed: increases how much the progress bar advances every tick. Tier 1 gives +1 and Tier 2 gives +2.[15]
  • Efficiency: reduces the ticks needed for an operation. Tier 1 gives -10% and Tier 2 gives -20%.[15]
  • Processing: increases the operations done when a machine finishes processing. Tier 1 gives +1 operation and Tier 2 gives +2.[15]

The transporters describe their addons a little differently. Speed addons make a transporter work faster, and Efficiency addons let it transfer more. You right-click them into the outer ring of the transporter.[17]

Power

The Biofuel Generator burns Biofuel to make 160RF/t. It is efficient, so it stops using fuel when its internal buffer is full. The Pififul Generator burns fuels like coal and is the opposite: it keeps consuming fuel even when its buffer is full.[9][18]

Watch out: Don't leave a Pififul Generator running on a full buffer, because it keeps burning fuel anyway. The Biofuel Generator pauses instead.[9][18]

For bigger setups, the Mycelial Reactor detects the other mycelial generators and makes massive amounts of FE. It needs one instance of each generator working at the same time.[19]

These are the power costs the in-game guide lists for some common machines:[20][21][22][23][24][25]

  • Block Breaker: 1000RF per operation. It breaks the block in front of it and puts it in the internal inventory.[20]
  • Block Placer: places blocks from its internal container for 1000RF.[21]
  • Dye Mixer: 30RF/t.[22]
  • Resourceful Furnace: 40RF/t, and it returns 2mb of Essence per item melted.[23]
  • Sludge Refiner: 1000RF/t, so have power stored before you feed it Sludge.[24]
  • Marine Fisher: 5000RF per operation. It needs a water pool of at least 3x3 and 1 block deep.[25]

Unverified No config files for this mod were available for this pack, so I can't confirm whether the pack changed any of the power costs above. They are what the in-game guide states.

Fluid chains

The Bioreactor turns water plus seeds, saplings, dyes and skulls into Biofuel. Variety pays off. One item type gives only 80mb of Biofuel, but 4 different item types give 110mb per item, for a total of 440mb. Biofuel runs the generator and also Infinity Tools, which use it instead of power when it's loaded in them.[26][27][28]

  • Mob Crusher: kills mobs as if a player did it and produces their normal drops plus Essence. In its alternate mode it makes no essence and instead gives drops with random levels of a luck-type enchantment. The guide text says fortune, while the machine tooltip says Looting and Essence use.[16][29][30]
  • Mob Slaughter Factory: turns mobs and animals into Liquid Meat and Pink Slime, with no drops or experience. Passive mobs give more Pink Slime than non-passive ones.[13][31][32]
  • Sewer and Sewage Composter: the Sewer collects Sewage from animals and experience, and the Composter turns Sewage into Fertilizer that works like bonemeal.[33][34][35]
  • Plant Gatherer: each operation makes a little Sludge, which the Sludge Refiner uses.[24][36][37]

Dissolution Chamber

The Dissolution Chamber crafts with up to 8 items and/or 1 fluid, and it can output items and/or fluids. All its recipes are shapeless, so ingredients can go in any slot. Once a recipe is present, the machine locks all slots so nothing more can be inserted.[12]

Conveyors and transport

Conveyor Belt belts move items, entities and fluids, and upgrades let them interact with the world. Items and entities can go up and down, but fluids can only go horizontally. Right-click a conveyor with a dye to color it. Glowstone makes them move things very fast, and plastic stops items on top from being picked up.[10][11]

For inventory-to-inventory moves there are Item and Fluid Transporters. They move things between inventories that are 1 block away, and you need a transporter on both the extraction and insertion sides. Several transporter types can share a block, and you switch modes by right-clicking the middle area. They support whitelist and blacklist filters, and a regulator mode that sets how much an inventory can hold. Sneak and right-click a transporter to remove it or its upgrades. The World Transporter picks up items into inventories or drops them into the world.[17][39][40]

Farming and breeding machines

  • Plant Sower: has 9 color-coded internal slots. The working area above is split into 9 segments, and each segment only gets seeds from its matching slot.[41]
  • Plant Gatherer: chops trees and harvests crops. Once it starts a tree it keeps harvesting every connected log and leaf. It breaks crops rather than right-click harvesting them, but it replants automatically if given small amounts of ether.[36]
  • Hydroponic Bed: with power and water (or lava for nether crops) it speeds up growth a bit. Very small amounts of Ether Gas make crops grow much faster and replant automatically. Ether Gas comes from a Fluid Laser Base placed right on top of a Wither.[42][43]
  • Animal Rancher: shears sheep and milks cows.[44]
  • Animal Feeder: feeds animals so they can breed, as long as it has the right feeding item.[45]
  • Animal Baby Separator: teleports baby animals to the back of the machine. You pick which mob types it moves in the GUI.[46]
Watch out: The Plant Fertilizer keeps bonemealing the same crop until it stops accepting it. It can get stuck on plants that always accept bonemeal, like Sunflowers, or plants that never reach their final growth stage.[47]

Enchantment machines

How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing?

5 parts

Industrial Foregoing progression in this pack is built around machine frames. The quest chapter labels them Tier 1 to Tier 4, and almost everything else hangs off one of those four. Here is the path in the order you'll walk it.[3]

Watch out: The recipes for the machines, frames, addons and Dissolution Chamber crafts in this pack are all marked as changed by the pack. Don't trust default-mod recipes from other guides. Use the recipe blocks here or JEI.[11]

Tier 1: Pity Machine Frame and Plastic

The chapter starts with the "Industrial Foregoing" quest quest, which asks you to craft a Pity Machine Frame. From there your real goal is Plastic, which the quests call the main resource of the mod.[3][8]

  1. Make a Fluid Extractor to pull Latex out of logs. It runs faster when powered, and the quest says the best logs are Acacia or Mangrove. Check JEI for exact Latex amounts.[3][5]
  2. Put the Latex into a Latex Processing Unit. It uses 750 mB of Latex and 500 mB of Water to make 1 Dry Rubber.[3][4]
  3. Smelt the rubber to get Plastic. The quest for it says you now have access to some very useful machines.[3]

For early power, the Pitiful Generator makes a small amount of FE from burnable fuels like Coal. Later you can move to the Bioreactor and Biofuel Generator combo from the "Bio Power" quest quest.[3]

Plastic opens up a lot of branches at once. These include Block Placer and Block Breaker, the Sewer, the animal machines, the plant machines, the Conveyor Belt and the Mob Slaughter Factory. The two quests that matter most for progression are the Mob Slaughter Factory (for Pink Slime and Liquid Meat) and the Dissolution Chamber.[3]

The Dissolution Chamber

The Dissolution Chamber is how you craft the more advanced machines. You put a certain fluid in it along with the items for the recipe. The guide describes it as taking up to 8 items and/or 1 fluid, and its recipes are shapeless.[3][12]

The Dissolution Chamber itself is a normal crafting recipe in this pack.

Tip: Dissolution Chamber recipes need a specific fluid, so check JEI before you build one. Latex is also used in some of these recipes.[3]

Tier 2: Simple Machine Frame

The "Simple Machine Frame" quest quest unlocks after the Dissolution Chamber quest. The frame is made in the Dissolution Chamber.[3][11]

Simple Machine FrameChanged by the pack

The quests that open up after this frame include the Mob Detector, the Hydroponic Bed, the Marine Fisher and the Plant Fertilizer (which also wants the Sewer quest). You also get the Fermentation Station, which is Ore Processing: Step 2, and the first mycelial generators: Furnace Mycelial Generator, Frosty Mycelial Generator, Culinary Mycelial Generator and Pink Mycelial Generator.[3]

The Dissolution Chamber quest also unlocks addons. Range addons add 1 range per tier. Speed tier 1 gives +1 and tier 2 gives +2. Efficiency cuts operation time by 10% at tier 1 and 20% at tier 2. Processing adds 1 or 2 extra operations. They are crafted in the Dissolution Chamber with Latex, and their recipes are changed in this pack.[3][11][15]

Tier 3: Advanced Machine Frame

The "Advanced Machine Frame" quest quest needs both the Simple Machine Frame quest and the "Pink Slime \& Liquid Meat" quest quest. So you need a working Mob Slaughter Factory first. Passive mobs give more Pink Slime and hostile mobs give more Meat.[3][13]

Off the Pink Slime branch you can also reach the Infinity Charger. It leads to the "Infinity Tools" quest quest, which covers the Infinity Trident, Drill, Saw, Hammer, Backpack and Nuke. The quest lists 7 tiers for these tools, and Biofuel in them makes them more efficient.[3]

Tier 4: Ether Gas and the Supreme Machine Frame

The "Ether Gas" quest quest requires the Purple Laser Lens and the "Laser Drill" quest quest. Ether Gas is made by a Fluid Laser Base placed right on top of a Wither. The "Supreme Machine Frame" quest quest is the next step, and it is the Tier 4 frame.[3][43]

How does Industrial Foregoing work with other mods?

4 parts

Industrial Foregoing doesn't stand alone in this pack. The pack's recipes tie its machines, lenses and fluids into AllTheOres, Modern Industrialization, PneumaticCraft, Productive Bees, Oritech and more. Here's where they connect.[11]

Laser Drill: your ore source

The biggest link is the Laser Drill. The pack changed its ore recipes so that each colored lens mines materials from other mods. Most of them are AllTheOres raw materials and ores, and the black lens also gives Raw Tungsten from Modern Industrialization.[11]

The pack also adds two fluid recipes to the Laser Drill. The black lens produces Crude Oil from PneumaticCraft, and the blue lens produces Soul Lava from Allthemodium.[11]

Dissolution Chamber and the higher addon tiers

The Dissolution Chamber is how you craft the higher-tier addons. The pack changed its recipes for the speed, efficiency and processing addons from the Speed Addon 3 line up to tier 8, and the sources I have don't show the tier 4 recipes. Each step needs the previous tier's addon, and the first one starts from Industrial Foregoing's own tier 2 addon. Each tier also asks for one of the mod's own fluids: Pink Slime, Sludge, Biofuel or Ether Gas. That ties your slaughter, plant and Wither setups into your upgrade progression.[11]

The questbook links things up too. The Apothic Spawners chapter has a quest for the Mob Duplicator, described as Industrial Foregoing's spawner: it uses Essence and a mob in a Mob Imprisonment Tool to spawn a copy of that mob (a quest in "Apothic Spawners"). The Basic Power chapter also holds the "Industrial Foregoing: Mycelial Reactor" quest quest for the Mycelial Reactor, which comes after End Game Power Options.[6][7]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Industrial Foregoing?

4 parts

Industrial Foregoing has its own quest chapter, and it also shows up in three other chapters: Apothic Spawners, Basic Power and Chapter 3: AllTheModium. The main chapter is a tech tree that runs through four machine frame tiers, so you can follow it like a checklist.[3][6][7][53]

The Industrial Foregoing chapter, in order

  1. Tier 1: "Industrial Foregoing" quest asks you to craft a Pity Machine Frame. Three quests open up right after it: the Fluid Extractor (quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"), the Pitiful Generator (quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing") and "Item \& Fluid Transport" quest, which wants an Item Transporter and a Fluid Transporter.[3]
  2. The Plastic chain: "Latex" quest asks for a Latex Bucket. Next come the Latex Processing Unit (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"), Dry Rubber (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing") and finally Plastic (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"). The quest text says the processing unit uses 750 mB of Latex and 500 mB of Water to make 1 Dry Rubber.[3]
  3. Machines unlocked by Plastic: the Mob Slaughter Factory, "Blocks" quest, "Sewer" quest, "Fluids" quest, "Animals" quest, "Bio Power" quest, "Plants" quest, the Mob Imprisonment Tool, the Conveyor Belt, the Sludge Refiner and the Dissolution Chamber. The Meat Feeder quest (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing") also needs the Mob Slaughter Factory quest done first.[3]
  4. Conveyor side quests: "Conveyor Insertion \& Extraction" quest and "Other Conveyor Upgrades" quest both unlock after the Conveyor Belt quest.[3]
  5. Tier 2: "Simple Machine Frame" quest asks for the Simple Machine Frame and comes after the Dissolution Chamber quest. Once you have it, the chapter opens up machines such as the Hydroponic Bed, Marine Fisher, Mob Detector and Fermentation Station, plus several Mycelial Generators. "Simulated Hydroponic Bed" quest follows the Hydroponic Bed quest.[3]
  6. Tier 3: "Advanced Machine Frame" quest wants the Advanced Machine Frame. It requires both the Simple Machine Frame quest and "Pink Slime \& Liquid Meat" quest. Behind it you find the Mob Duplicator, Mob Crusher, the enchantment machines, the Stasis Chamber, the Potion Brewer, more Mycelial Generators and "Laser Drill" quest.[3]
  7. Tier 4: "Ether Gas" quest asks for an Ether Gas Bucket and needs both the Laser Drill quest and the Purple Laser Lens quest (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing"). After it, "Supreme Machine Frame" quest asks for the Supreme Machine Frame. The last quests open from there: the Wither Builder and the remaining Mycelial Generators, including the Mycelial Reactor (a quest in "Industrial Foregoing").[3]

Optional branches

ATM Star path

The ATM Star path only uses part of this chapter. It runs from the starting quest through the Plastic chain, the Dissolution Chamber, the three machine frames, the Laser Drill and Ether Gas, and ends at the Wither Builder. The quest text says the Wither Builder is part of the Wither's Compass for the ATM Star.[3]

Quests in other chapters

  • Apothic Spawners: a quest in "Apothic Spawners" asks for the Mob Duplicator again, described there as Industrial Foregoing's spawner.[6]
  • Basic Power: "Industrial Foregoing: Mycelial Reactor" quest asks for the Mycelial Reactor. It unlocks after End Game Power Options. The text says the reactor runs all the Mycelial Generators near it at once for a total of 25MFE/t, and you have to automate what each generator consumes.[7]
  • Chapter 3: AllTheModium: "Making Soul Lava" quest asks for a Stasis Chamber, a Fluid Laser Base, a Laser Drill and a Blue Laser Lens. The text says to keep a Warden in the Stasis Chamber, put the Fluid Laser Base directly above it with the Blue Lens, and point powered Laser Drills at the base.[53]

Which Industrial Foregoing config options matter?

Unverified No config files for Industrial Foregoing in this pack were available when this section was written, so I can't tell you which config options this pack sets or which values it changed from the mod defaults. Check the in-game config screen or the pack's config folder before relying on any value you've seen elsewhere.

The mod's project page does list CraftTweaker support. That means recipes for this mod can be changed by scripts, so if a recipe in the pack looks different from what you remember, trust the recipe shown on the site rather than a mod default.[1]

Unverified Whether this pack actually uses CraftTweaker scripts to change Industrial Foregoing recipes is not confirmed by the available sources.

What changed in Industrial Foregoing between versions?

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Industrial Foregoing at version 1.21-3.6.38. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[2]

The mod's own changelog has entries for 1.21-3.6.34, 1.21-3.6.36, 1.21-3.6.37 and 1.21-3.6.38. That means the pack's current version is the newest of those entries.[2][54][55][56][57]

Unverified The text of those changelog entries was not available, so what changed in each release from 3.6.34 to 3.6.38 is unverified. The pack changelogs also have no entries for this mod, so there is no confirmed pack-specific change to report.
