What is PneumaticCraft: Repressurized?

2 parts

PneumaticCraft: Repressurized is an industrial-themed tech mod built around compressed air. It has its own power system, an original take on automation, and a very powerful armor set. This pack ships version 8.2.23.[1][2]

Pressure is the core idea. Compressors, like the Air Compressor, are the mod's power generators, and Pressure Tube is how you move that air around. Many machines need pressure to run.[3][4][5]

Who it's for

It suits you if you like building a real machine chain instead of just placing a generator. The mod covers several areas:[1]

  • Logistics: move items and fluids and keep inventories and tanks stocked. The system is heavily inspired by Factorio and uses frames attached to existing inventories and tanks.[6]
  • Drone programming: write programs for drones from a set of widgets, starting with the Start widget that every program needs.[7][8]
  • Renewables: produce Biodiesel from Yeast Culture, Ethanol and Vegetable Oil using the Thermopneumatic Processing Plant and a Fluid Mixer.[9][10]
  • Pneumatic Armor: a highly upgradable armor set with a HUD. By default it is only slightly tougher than the matching iron armor piece, so the upgrades are what make it strong.[11][12]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack's quest chapter starts with "PneumaticCraft: Repressurized" quest, which asks for a Compressed Iron Ingot. You make these by blowing up iron, and a little is lost in the explosion. The quest text suggests TNT for this.[13][14]

From there the chapter branches. "Moving Pressure" quest introduces pressure tubes, and "Reinforced Stone" quest asks you to make 32 Reinforced Stone. Charging Station comes after both of those, and "Generating Pressure" quest covers the Air Compressor. The quest text recommends making at least 3 compressors to start.[13]

The mod's own manual helps too. Its later sections unlock as you earn advancements, so check the mod's Advancements page to see what to build next.[14]

Tip: If you want an early upgrade, the Compressed Iron Armor set is slightly better than the equivalent iron armor, with higher toughness and durability and partial knockback resistance. You can repair it in an Anvil with compressed iron ingots. The quest chapter says you can craft it or commonly find it in loot chests.[13][15]

How do you get started with PneumaticCraft: Repressurized?

4 parts

Welcome to PneumaticCraft: Repressurized! This mod runs on compressed air, and everything starts with one material. The pack's first quest, "PneumaticCraft: Repressurized" quest, walks you through it, and the order below follows the in-game guide and the quest line.[13][14]

Step one: make Compressed Iron

The mod does not generate any extra ores. All you need is plain iron, around a stack of it and a stack of stone (a bit less iron is fine). Throw your iron ingots on the ground, then set off an explosion nearby. TNT works, and so does any other explosion. The pack's quest suggests digging a hole first and throwing in iron ingots or blocks. Then pick up your Compressed Iron Ingot.[13][14][16]

Watch out: You lose around 20% of the ingots to the explosion. You can avoid this later by crafting Compressed Iron Ingots in a Pressure Chamber, but you need some Compressed Iron to build the chamber in the first place, so a little early loss can't be avoided.[16]

Step two: tubes, stone and your first compressors

  1. Craft Pressure Tube. They move pressure around, and they are what "Moving Pressure" quest asks you to obtain.[13][14]
  2. Craft Reinforced Stone. The pack's quest "Reinforced Stone" quest calls it one of your most important materials and asks you to start by making 32.[13][14]
  3. Build an Air Compressor to generate pressure. Put burnable items in it and it makes air. The quest "Generating Pressure" quest recommends making at least 3 to start with.[13]
  4. Get a Security Upgrade for your machines. The quest "Preventing Explosions?" quest warns that everything can blow up, and this upgrade stops a machine from exploding.[13]

Your first pressure source: the quest calls it an easy way of making pressure.

Step three: build the Pressure Chamber

The Pressure Chamber is the next big step in the in-game guide. It is a multiblock that can be as small as 3x3x3 or as big as 5x5x5. The quest "The Pressure Chamber" quest asks for the blocks for the 5x5x5 version. You need Pressure Chamber Wall blocks, a Pressure Chamber Valve and Pressure Chamber Interface blocks.[13][14]

Pipe pressure into the valve with your tubes, and put a Security Upgrade in it. Different recipes need different amounts of pressure. For the interfaces, blue on the outside imports items and gold on the outside exports them. Place one of each on any face.[13]

Step four: charging and handy tools

Once you have Reinforced Stone and Pressure Tubes, the quest a quest in "PneumaticCraft" points you to the Charging Station. It charges tools and gadgets using pressure. Right after it, the quest line offers the Manometer for reading extra machine information, and the Pneumatic Wrench for moving or breaking your machines and tubes.[13]

How does PneumaticCraft: Repressurized work?

9 parts

Compressed air is the power system of this mod. Compressors produce it, and Pressure Tubes move it around.[3][4][17]

Pressure, volume and air

Every pressurizable machine and tool has a volume in mL, which is how much air it holds at 0 bar. The mod uses gauge pressure, so 0 bar is normal atmosphere and -1 bar is a vacuum. Pressure is P = (A / V) - 1, where V is volume and A is the air currently stored. A machine with 5,000 mL of volume holding 20,000 mL of air sits at 3 bar.[17][18]

Air flows from higher-pressure blocks to lower-pressure ones, and pressure tries to balance out. A small machine connected to a big air reservoir will build up pressure. Leave a tube or machine side open and you get a big air leak, which you can hear as hissing and see as particles.[17]

Machines may need a minimum pressure to run, but what they actually use up is air, not pressure. Volume Upgrades raise a machine's volume, so each operation causes a smaller pressure drop.[17]

Watch out: Too much pressure causes an explosion. The red zone on a machine's pressure gauge shows where danger starts, but the exact explosion point can't be predicted. Don't rely on sitting just under it.[17]

Pressure tiers

Currently there are three tiers of machine. Tier one resists 5 bar, tier one-point-five resists 10 bar and tier two resists 20 bar. Tier 1.5 was added in the MC 1.18 release as an optional step. It covers things that used to need tier two, like charging tools to 10 bar and getting a Diamond Drill Bit for 3x3 block breaking.[18]

Tubes have limits too. According to its tooltip, the Advanced Pressure Tube is the strongest type of Pressure Tube, with a max safe pressure of 20 bar. It can be camouflaged and Tube Modules can be placed on it, such as the Air Grate Tube Module.[19][20]

The Air Canister is a crafting component for any pressurizable item. It has a volume of 3,000 mL, can be charged to 10 bar without exploding, and items crafted with it keep its air.[21]

Generating air

Compressors are the power generators. The tooltip for the basic Air Compressor says it makes compressed air from any solid-fuel item that can burn in a Furnace, placed in the fuel slot. Fuel buckets do not work there, so liquid fuels need a Liquid Compressor.[3][19]

  • Advanced Air Compressor: its tooltip calls it the tier two version, generating at 50 mL/tick and also producing heat. The higher the heat, the lower the efficiency, and the tooltip says it won't explode when the temperature gets too high.[19]
  • Advanced Liquid Compressor: its tooltip gives a generation rate of 50 mL/tick, with the same heat and efficiency behavior.[19]
  • Flux Compressor: its tooltip says it converts Forge Energy into air at a base efficiency of 40%, so 100 FE gives 40 mL. Speed Upgrades reduce that efficiency slightly, and the compressor generates heat that must be dissipated to avoid efficiency loss.[19]
  • Electrostatic Compressor: its tooltip says it produces 200,000 mL of air instantly when hit by lightning. A grid of Iron Bars or Lightning Rods raises the strike chance, as does a column of up to 10 more directly above it. Strikes are very poor in clear weather, better in rain and much better in thunderstorms.[19]

For the Electrostatic Compressor, the grid works out to 5 blocks horizontally and 5 vertically, with up to 250 blocks per grid. Add a column of grid blocks below it to ground excess energy. The tooltip says the accepted grid blocks might be modified by a modpack. This pack's config files aren't available, so check JEI in game.[19]

Heat

Heat moves from hotter to colder blocks, and only between blocks that support heat. A bigger temperature difference means faster flow. Each material has a thermal resistance, which sets how fast heat spreads. It also has a thermal capacity, which sets how slowly its temperature rises or falls.[22]

Exposed machines leak heat into the air. To stop that, make sure no face touches an air block. Any non-conducting block works, even a trapdoor or slab. Blocks of Compressed Iron conduct heat very well, so they're handy for adding faces to attach heat sinks to.[16][22]

Adjacent blocks and fluids act as static heat sources, such as lava, ice, torches and more. A Vortex Tube is a dynamic source that turns pressure into heat and cold. Heat Pipes carry heat without any thermal link to neighboring air or fluid blocks. All block heat properties are defined in datapacks, so pack makers can change them.[23]

A vanilla Furnace next to a dynamic heat source, such as a Vortex Tube or an Advanced Air Compressor, can run purely on heat with no solid fuel. This starts at 100°C and speeds up as it gets hotter. It also works for Blast Furnaces and Smokers.[23]

Heat plays a part in other machines too. The Etching Tank can be heated above 50°C for faster etching, at the cost of slowly using up Etching Acid.[19]

Assembly line

According to its tooltip, the Assembly Controller controls any connected assembly machine, and the machines connecting those machines, and so on. To start the assembly you put a program in its program slot. The Drill & Laser program is made by combining the separate Drill and Laser programs.[19][20]

You can swap an import IO unit for an export one, and back, with a shapeless crafting recipe.[20]

Moving items and fluids

  • Air Cannon: its tooltip says it transports items through the air. You make a GPS Tool, right-click the destination block with it, then insert the tool in the cannon's GPS slot.[19][20]
  • Aerial Interface: per its tooltip, it uses the inventory of the player who placed it as its own, so hoppers can move items in and out and they are added to or removed from that player's inventory. Drones or Logistics Frames could keep that player supplied with 64 torches, for example.[19][20]
  • Elevator: its tooltip says it needs air pressure and Elevator Frames on top of the Elevator Base. Redstone strength sets the height, with 0 meaning 0% extension and 15 meaning 100%. Elevators joined sideways share floor names when their topmost bases are at the same height.[19]
  • Gas Lift: its tooltip says it places Drill Pipes downwards until it hits a liquid, digging through solid blocks on the way, which uses pressure proportional to the block's hardness. The minimum pressure required increases proportionally to the working depth.[19]

Crude Oil is the mod's only world generation, and its lakes are far more likely deep underground. A Gas Lift is the recommended way to pump it. An early way to carry it home is a Small Tank, which keeps its contents when broken.[24]

Reading a machine's GUI

Most machines have side tabs. Redstone behavior sets how it reacts to redstone, Upgrades shows what it accepts, and Pressure Status shows pressure and volume. The Problems tab tells you why a machine isn't working, so check it first when something stalls.[25]

Building for reliability

Chunks are 16x16 in the horizontal axes, and machines only run while their chunk is loaded. If you want processing while you're away, chunkload the build. Keep it inside chunk boundaries, since a half-loaded build behaves unpredictably. Keep multiblocks like the Pressure Chamber within a single chunk if you can.[26]

Tip: Put Security Upgrades in chunkloaded machines. They prevent explosions, and chunkloading or server performance hiccups can cause pressure trouble even with good redstone control.[26]

Compressed Iron in this pack

Compressed Iron is the base material for most recipes. You can make it by throwing iron ingots on the ground and exploding them, but you lose around 20% of them. A Pressure Chamber avoids that loss, though you need some Compressed Iron to build the chamber itself. This pack changes the recipe that turns a compressed block back into a Block of Compressed Iron, shown below.[16][20]

How do you progress through PneumaticCraft: Repressurized?

5 parts

PneumaticCraft in this pack is a long, quest-guided ladder: compressed iron, then pressure, then oil, then plastic, then circuit boards, then the Assembly Line. The pack's PneumaticCraft quest chapter walks you through it in that order, so you can follow along step by step.[13]

Stage 1: Compressed Iron

Everything starts with Compressed Iron Ingot. The mod adds no extra ores, so you make these from regular iron: throw iron ingots (or blocks) on the ground in a hole and blow them up with TNT. The first quest, "PneumaticCraft: Repressurized" quest, asks for exactly this.[13][16]

Explosion Crafting (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: pneumaticcraft:explosion_crafting/compressed_iron_ingot

Explosion crafting, the way the first quest wants you to do it.

Watch out: You lose around 20% of your ingots to the explosion. A Pressure Chamber can craft Compressed Iron Ingots without that loss, but you need some Compressed Iron Ingots to build the chamber in the first place, so a little initial loss can't be avoided.[16]

Stage 2: Pressure and the Pressure Chamber

Next, "Reinforced Stone" quest asks you to make 32 Reinforced Stone from Compressed Iron and regular stone. "Moving Pressure" quest gives you Pressure Tube to carry pressure around.[13]

For pressure itself, "Generating Pressure" quest points you to the Air Compressor. Feed it burnable items and it produces pressure. The quest recommends building at least 3 to start with.[13]

Once you have pressure, "The Pressure Chamber" quest has you build the multiblock. It can be as small as 3x3x3 or as big as 5x5x5, and the quest asks for the blocks for the 5x5x5. You pipe pressure into the Pressure Chamber Valve and use Pressure Chamber Interface blocks to move items in and out. Different recipes need different amounts of pressure.[13]

Watch out: Everything can blow up. Put a Security Upgrade in your machines, including the Pressure Chamber Valve, to stop that from happening.[13]

Stage 3: Oil, Heat and Refining

  1. Collect Crude Oil Bucket with "Crude Oil" quest. Oil can be found naturally on the surface of the overworld.[13]
  2. Optionally drill for more with a Seismic Sensor, a Gas Lift and Drill Pipe. Drilling needs pressure.[13]
  3. Make heat. The Vortex Tube splits pressure into hot and cold air, Heat Pipe moves the heat, and a Heat Sink on the cold side boosts production.[13]
  4. Build the Oil Refinery. It is a 1x1x5 multiblock with a Refinery Controller at the bottom and four Refinery Output blocks on top. It needs oil and heat, and Thermal Lagging on the sides helps keep it warm. It produces Diesel, Kerosene, Gasoline and LPG.[13]
  5. Take the LPG to the Thermopneumatic Processing Plant, with Coal and heat, to make Molten Plastic. A Heat Frame on a container of Molten Plastic cools it into a Molten Plastic.[13]

The refinery outputs feed into each other: Diesel can make more Kerosene or Lubricant, Kerosene can make Gasoline or fuel a Kerosene Lamp, and Gasoline can make LPG. Lubricant leads to the Diamond Drill Bit, which goes in a Pneumatic Jackhammer. The Netherite Drill Bit quest follows after you have both.[13]

Stage 4: Plastic and Circuit Boards

Plastic opens up a lot of branches at once: "Amadron" quest, the Reinforced Pressure Tube, the Elevator Base, the Pneumatic Door and the Jackhammer. The Amadron quest is the one you need to continue, because you order the PCB Blueprint there. In the quest it is listed at 8 Emeralds.[13]

Amadron (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: pneumaticcraft:amadron/pcb_blueprint

The Amadron trade for the blueprint, paid in Emeralds.

  1. Make Empty PCB in the Pressure Chamber, and get your Capacitor and Transistor items ready.[13]
  2. Charge the Empty PCBs in a UV Light Box. It needs pressure and access to sunlight.[13]
  3. Make Etching Acid in the Pressure Chamber (the quest says it involves Molten Plastic), and build an Etching Tank, which needs heat.[13]
  4. Etch a charged Empty PCB to get an Unassembled PCB.[13]
  5. Combine the Unassembled PCB with your Capacitors and Transistors to get a Finished PCB.[13]

The Finished PCB unlocks the Assembly Line. The quests after it, which are all marked "Always Required", ask for the Assembly Controller, the Assembly IO Unit (import) and the Assembly IO Unit (export). The Controller is where the pressure goes.[13]

Also handy after the Thermopneumatic Processing quest: the Upgrade Matrix lets an upgrade cost only 1 Lapis instead of 4.[13][27]

Pressure Tiers

Machines come in three pressure tiers. Tier one machines nominally resist 5 bar, tier 1.5 machines resist up to 10 bar, and tier two machines resist up to 20 bar. Tier 1.5 is optional. It exists mainly so you can charge tools to 10 bar and get a Diamond Drill Bit (which allows 3x3 block breaking) without going all the way to tier two.[18]

The quest book's Reinforced Pressure Tube can hold 10 bars of pressure. For tier two, the Advanced Air Compressor is the upgraded Air Compressor, with a maximum safe pressure of 20 bar and a base of 50mL air per tick.[13][28]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use PneumaticCraft: Repressurized?

2 parts

The pack covers this mod in a single quest chapter, "PneumaticCraft". It opens with "PneumaticCraft: Repressurized" quest, which asks for a Compressed Iron Ingot. The quest text says it won't cover everything in the mod, and it points you to JEI, the tooltips and the PCB:R guide for the rest.[13]

The main path, in order

  1. Start with "PneumaticCraft: Repressurized" quest. Nearly everything else branches off it, including "Moving Pressure" quest (a Pressure Tube) and "Reinforced Stone" quest. The Reinforced Stone quest asks you to make 32 of them.[13]
  2. "Generating Pressure" quest comes after Moving Pressure and asks for an Air Compressor. The quest text recommends building at least 3. After it, "Preventing Explosions?" quest asks for a Security Upgrade, which stops machines from exploding.[13]
  3. "The Pressure Chamber" quest unlocks after Preventing Explosions? and Reinforced Stone. It asks for the Pressure Chamber Wall, Pressure Chamber Valve and Pressure Chamber Interface. The quest text says the chamber can be anywhere from 3x3x3 to 5x5x5, and the blocks for the 5x5x5 size are what the quest needs.[13]
  4. "Crude Oil" quest asks for an Crude Oil Bucket. The Heat Production quest ("Heat Production" quest, a Vortex Tube) and Moving Heat ("Moving Heat" quest, a Heat Pipe) lead into "Oil Refinery" quest. That quest asks for the Refinery Controller, the Refinery Output and Thermal Lagging. The refinery is described as a 1x1x5 multiblock with one controller and four outputs.[13]
  5. The refinery unlocks one quest per fuel: "LPG" quest, "Diesel" quest, "Kerosene" quest and "Gasoline" quest. LPG leads to "Thermopneumatic Processing" quest, and that leads to "Plastic" quest, which asks for a Molten Plastic.[13]
  6. After Plastic comes "Amadron" quest (an Amadron Tablet), "Capacitors" quest and "Transistors" quest. "PCB Blueprint" quest needs both the Amadron quest and the Empty PCB quest (a quest in "PneumaticCraft"), and its text mentions a price of 8 Emeralds.[13]
  7. The PCB steps run in this order: "Charging with UVs" quest with the UV Light Box, then the Etching Tank and Etching Acid Bucket quests, then the Unassembled PCB quest. The last step asks for the Finished PCB, and it also needs the Capacitors and Transistors quests.[13]
  8. The Finished PCB quest unlocks the Assembly Line quests, "Pneumatic Armor" quest, "Programming Drones" quest and a Micromissiles quest. The Assembly Line quests ask for the Assembly Controller, Assembly Platform, the import and export IO units, an Assembly Laser and an Assembly Drill.[13]

Optional side quests

Several quests hang off the early ones and are optional. Right after the first quest you'll find the Liquid Hopper, Transfer Gadget, Crop Support, Omnidirectional Hopper and "Compressed Iron Armor" quest quests.[13]

The tank line is a chain of four quests, each unlocking after the previous one: a quest in "PneumaticCraft" (Small Fluid Tank), a quest in "PneumaticCraft" (Medium Fluid Tank), a quest in "PneumaticCraft" (Large Fluid Tank) and a quest in "PneumaticCraft" (Huge Fluid Tank). The first quest's text says stacking one tank on another and wrenching them together makes one big tank.[13]

Reinforced Stone also opens "Logistics" quest, the Reinforced Chest and the Minigun ammo line. The Charging Station quest needs both Reinforced Stone and Moving Pressure, and it leads to the Manometer, Pneumatic Wrench and Camouflage Applicator quests. Generating Pressure also branches into "Pressure from Liquids" quest and "Pressure from Heat" quest.[13]

The Pneumatic Armor quest has a whole set of upgrade quests under it. Examples are the Block Tracker Upgrade, SCUBA Upgrade and Elytra Upgrade. Each is marked with its maximum count in the title.[13]

What changed in PneumaticCraft: Repressurized between versions?

4 parts

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships PneumaticCraft: Repressurized 8.2.23, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. I don't have any pack changelog entries for this mod, so this is the mod's own changelogs for the versions I can see: 8.2.13, 8.2.16, 8.2.18 and 8.2.23. Since the pack is on 8.2.23, everything below is already in your game.[2][29][30][31]

8.2.23

  • Fixed an NPE in the Security Station. The changelog notes it could not be reproduced, but it appears to sometimes happen if you close the GUI while a reboot is in progress.[32]

8.2.18

  • New stonecutter recipes for Reinforced and Compressed Stone, matching the vanilla stone recipes: brick slabs, stairs and walls.[31]
  • Air Canisters and the Pneumatic Armor chestplate charging upgrade gained new charging modes, "Held" and "Held + Armor".[31]
  • Ctrl-V now pastes clipboard text into the Aphorism Tile GUI.[31]
  • The Minigun no longer uses up ammo when the ammo has Unbreaking or the gun has Item Life upgrades installed.[31]
  • Reinforced Pressure Valves now accept upgrades, and right-clicking one opens the Pressure Chamber GUI as it should.[31]
  • Pneumatic Armor fixes: entity and block trackers clear their tracked objects when you change dimension, and swapping one armor piece for another now re-initialises the armor.[31]
  • Crouching under a slab without holding sneak was wrongly treated as sneaking, which made right-clicking the Minigun open its GUI. That is fixed.[31]

8.2.16

  • Fixed a CME related to chunk unloading and semiblock entities.[30]
  • The Pneumatic Armor recipes that use potions (night vision, jump and jet boots upgrades) are more lenient. They now only check the specific potion data component, which fixes compatibility issues with mods like Sensible Stackables.[30]

8.2.13

  • The Jet Boots max height before cutout is now configurable instead of being world build height + 64. Look for jet_boots_height_limit in the common config.[29]
  • All PneumaticCraft fuel fluids are now in the c:<fluid> fluid tag, no longer under c:fuels/<fluid>, which is more in line with other mods.[29]
  • Json syntax errors in the aux config files (config/pneumaticcraft/*.cfg) no longer stop the game from starting. An error is logged and that subsystem uses default settings.[29]
  • The Pneumatic Chestplate now honours the Apotheosis Elytra affix, so Elytra flying works with the affix even without the Elytra upgrade installed.[29]
  • Drone fixes: the "Limit Interaction" setting for the Entity Attack widget now works with a Minigun or Micromissiles, and the Void Liquid widget no longer hangs a drone with an empty tank and no filter.[29]
  • Elevator caller screens have a better button layout when there are many floors, and Omnihopper and Liquid Hopper block shapes are correct at certain rotations.[29]
