What is MEGA Cells?
3 parts
MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that adds higher storage tiers, from 1M all the way up to 256M. It also brings some specialised storage cells and extra tooling. This pack ships version 4.11.0 of the mod.[1][2]
It's for you once the highest standard AE2 cell tier stops keeping up with everything you're hoarding. The pack's quest text says the same thing: this is where you move into megabyte territory. There are five tiers of storage component: 1M MEGA Storage Component, 4M MEGA Storage Component, 16M MEGA Storage Component, 64M MEGA Storage Component and 256M MEGA Storage Component. The 256M one is the fifth and final tier.[2][3]
Getting started
Everything starts with Sky Steel. It's an alloy ingot, and making it needs a much hotter fluid than water. You then use Sky Steel to build the Accumulation Processor, which is the backbone of almost every MEGA device.[2]
More than just bigger cells
- The MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell stores only one item type, but a practically infinite amount of it. The pack's quest "Bulk Item Storage" quest says you must filter it first with a Cell Workbench.[3][4]
- MEGA also covers auto-crafting, with larger crafting CPU parts and a MEGA Pattern Provider that holds up to 18 processing patterns.[5]
- There's a Superdense Energy Cell and a Greater Energy Card for big energy buffers, plus a MEGA Interface, a Portable Cell Workbench and an ME Cell Dock.[6][7]
Where it fits in the pack
The storage tiers are a quest chain in the Applied Energistics 2 chapter. It begins with "1M Storage Component" quest, which unlocks after the 256k Storage Component quest, and runs through "4M Storage Component" quest, "16M Storage Component" quest, "64M Storage Component" quest and "256M Storage Component" quest.[3]
If you're on the ATM Star path, the sources list the 1M, 4M and 16M storage component quests in that chapter.[3]
MEGA Cells shows up later too. The AllTheModium chapter's "Infinity ME Cells" quest asks for the 256M component. The Productive Bees chapter also uses the Sky Steel Block and Sky Osmium Block in its Sky Steel Bee and Sky Osmium Bee quests.[8][9]
How do you get started with MEGA Cells?
5 parts
MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that adds storage tiers from 1M up to 256M, plus some specialised cells and extra tools. Everything in it starts from one new material, Sky Steel, so that's where you begin.[2]
Step 1: Get Sky Steel
The in-game guide tells you to gather plenty of one key resource and turn it into Sky Steel alloy ingots, together with iron and one more ingredient. Water won't cut it for this metalwork, so you also need a much hotter fluid to melt everything down and transform it.[2]
Step 2: Craft the Accumulation Processor
Once you have Sky Steel, use it to assemble the Accumulation Processor. It's the backbone of almost every MEGA device, and every MEGA storage component recipe in this pack asks for one.[2][10]
Step 3: Make an item cell housing
Bigger components need a sturdier housing, and that's where more Sky Steel comes in. The MEGA Item Cell Housing is the one you want for your first M-tier item cells.[10][11]

Step 4: Climb the component tiers
Your first MEGA component is the 1M MEGA Storage Component, which gives 1,048,576 bytes of storage. It follows the 256k Storage Component quest, so it's the natural next goal once you've finished standard AE2 storage. The quest is "1M Storage Component" quest.[3][10]

After that, each tier is built on the one before it: 4M MEGA Storage Component, 16M MEGA Storage Component, 64M MEGA Storage Component and finally 256M MEGA Storage Component. The quests follow the same order: "4M Storage Component" quest, "16M Storage Component" quest, "64M Storage Component" quest and "256M Storage Component" quest.[3][10]

What to do next
- Other housings: fluid cells use Sky Bronze, which the guide says comes from alloying Sky Stone with copper. You craft the MEGA Fluid Cell Housing from it.[10][11]
- The pack changed the recipe for the MEGA Chemical Cell Housing, so don't assume the mod's default applies there.[10]
- Portable cells: these demand a lot more power than AE2's. Only the Greater Energy Card, crafted from the Superdense Energy Cell, can boost their battery.[6][11]
- Bulk storage: the MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell holds one item type in a practically infinite amount. Its quest is "Bulk Item Storage" quest.[3][4]
The Bulk Item Storage Cell has its own dedicated Netherite housing and doesn't use the normal cell housings. The pack also changed its recipe, so follow this one rather than the mod's default.[4][10]

How does MEGA Cells work?
10 parts
MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that adds higher storage tiers, from 1M up to 256M, plus some specialised cells and extra tools. Everything below is how those systems behave once you have them on your ME network.[2]
The Accumulation Processor
The Accumulation Processor is the backbone of almost every MEGA device, from the bigger standard cells to the specialised tools. It is built from Sky Steel, so that is your first stop.[2][10]
In this pack the first step is the printed circuit, Printed Accumulation Circuit, which is made in an inscriber and needs a universal press. That recipe was added by the pack. The finishing step is the mod's own inscriber recipe.[10]

Making Sky Bronze
Sky Bronze Ingot has several routes in this pack. The mod's own AE2 transform recipe gives 2 ingots per craft. The ExtendedAE crystal assembler recipe was changed by the pack and gives 8 ingots per craft. The pack also changed an Advanced AE reaction recipe and a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that both produce it.[10]

Sky Osmium Ingot also has a pack-changed Advanced AE reaction recipe.[10]
Storage cells and components
MEGA's item cells run from 1M (equivalent to 1024k) to 256M. That is over one thousand times the capacity of a 256k cell. Each tier needs its own storage component, and a more capable housing is needed to go with it. Fluids and other types have their own dedicated housings too.[11]
The components step up one tier at a time. Here are the 1M and 16M ones as the pack has them.[10]

Portable cells
MEGA has a portable version of its cells, just like AE2. They demand a fair bit more energy, so they are crafted with a bigger energy cell than the regular portable cells. They still support the full range of upgrades. However, the regular Energy Card is not strong enough for them, and only the Greater Energy Card will do.[6][11]

Bulk Item Cell
A standard cell holds up to 63 different item types. The MEGA Bulk Item Cell holds exactly one type, but effectively without limit. It has its own Netherite housing and component, so it can't be built from the other housings, and it can't be taken apart again.[4]
A new Bulk Cell does nothing until you partition it, which sets the item it will store. After that it prioritises itself as the destination for that item and works like a normal cell for insertion and extraction.[4]
The cell can internally go past 9.2 quintillion, which is the most an ME network can handle and display for one item type.[4]
Bulk Compression
The Compression Card is an upgrade that only works in the Bulk Cell. It makes the cell aware of an item's compressed and uncompressed forms, such as ingots, nuggets and blocks. It follows the crafting recipes: if an ingot makes 9 nuggets and 9 nuggets make the ingot, then every 9 nuggets you insert become an ingot on the fly. This extends along the whole chain up to heavily compressed blocks from other mods.[4]
Internally the cell counts its quantity in the smallest unit the resource can be crafted down into, such as a nugget, a gem shard or a dust. Any variant in the chain can be extracted by automation or by Shift-clicking in a terminal.[4]
Crafting CPUs and pattern handling
MEGA adds bigger crafting storage for crafting CPUs, in 1M, 4M, 16M, 64M and 256M sizes. These need their own dedicated version of the crafting unit. The MEGA Crafting Co-Processing Unit gives 4 co-processing threads per block. The MEGA Crafting Monitor works exactly like the regular monitor and only keeps the dark look consistent.[5][12]
The MEGA Pattern Provider doubles pattern capacity to 18 patterns. The trade-off is that it only accepts processing patterns.[5][12]
The MEGA Interface is a double-capacity interface: twice the slots, twice the I/O and throughput, and twice the stock-keeping.[7]
Energy
The Superdense Energy Cell holds up to 12.8 million AE per cell. That is 8 times as much as the cell one step below it and 64 times as much as a standard one. The Greater Energy Card is crafted from it and gives wireless gear a bigger buffer.[6]
Small extras
- The Portable Cell Workbench is a handheld version of the Cell Workbench and can configure any storage cell as normal.[7]
- The ME Cell Dock holds one storage cell and has no built-in terminal. It is a flat cable part, so one cable can carry several docks in a single block space.[7]
Radioactive Chemical Cell
This cell is only for players who also use Mekanism and Applied Mekanistics. Regular chemical cells refuse radioactive chemicals, and the Radioactive Cell stores only those. It holds one chemical type, must be partitioned first, and has a finite maximum of 256 bytes, which is the equivalent of 2048 buckets.[13]
It draws 250 AE/tick while inside a connected ME Chest or Drive. For comparison, the cells it is measured against draw 0.5, 2.5 and 5 AE/t.[13]
By default it refuses Spent Nuclear Waste. The guide says this behaviour is configurable.[13]
Unverified Where or how the Spent Nuclear Waste behaviour is configured is not stated in the available sources, and no config file for this mod is available.
How do you progress through MEGA Cells?
6 parts
MEGA Cells picks up where standard AE2 storage ends. In this pack, the add-on's storage ranges from 1M to 256M, and the quest book walks you through it one component at a time. Each quest in the chain comes after the previous one, so you can follow it straight through.[2][3]
The five storage component tiers
The first MEGA quest, "1M Storage Component" quest, comes after the 256k Storage Component quest, so you move straight on from the highest standard AE2 tier. Every step after that quadruples the capacity of the one before.[3]
- "1M Storage Component" quest: the 1M MEGA Storage Component is the first MEGA tier and provides 1,048,576 bytes (1024 kilobytes).[3]
- "4M Storage Component" quest: the 4M MEGA Storage Component is the second tier, with 4,194,304 bytes.[3]
- "16M Storage Component" quest: the 16M MEGA Storage Component is the third tier, with 16,777,216 bytes.[3]
- "64M Storage Component" quest: the 64M MEGA Storage Component is the fourth tier, with 67,108,864 bytes.[3]
- "256M Storage Component" quest: the 256M MEGA Storage Component is the fifth and final tier, with 268,435,456 bytes.[3]
Here are the in-pack recipes for each component. They are the unchanged mod recipes, and each tier is built on the one below it.[10]

Portable cells
Every component tier also has portable versions for item, fluid, chemical and source storage, such as the 1M Portable Item Cell and the 256M Portable Source Cell. They are shapeless recipes built around a matching housing. The portable chemical and source recipes were changed by the pack, while the item and fluid ones are the mod's own.[10]

Bulk Item Storage
"Bulk Item Storage" quest introduces the MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell. It holds only one item type, but it can store a practically infinite amount of it. The quest follows Item Storage in the Applied Energistics 2 chapter. The pack changed its recipe, and it uses its own dedicated housing rather than any of the standard ones.[3][4][10]

The Compression Card is an upgrade exclusive to the Bulk Cell. It lets the cell accept the compressed and uncompressed forms of a resource, such as nuggets, ingots and blocks, and compress them automatically.[4]
Endgame: Infinity ME Cells
The end of the MEGA path connects to the AllTheModium chapter. "Infinity ME Cells" quest comes after the Unobtainium, Vibranium and AllTheModium quests. It asks for the 256M MEGA Storage Component, which every infinity cell requires. The quest text says each infinity cell also needs a huge pile of the item and one ingot each of AllTheModium, Vibranium and Unobtainium. Once placed in a Drive, an infinity cell provides an infinite amount of its item.[9]
Sky material side quests
Two Productive Bees quests, "Sky Steel Bee" quest and "Sky Osmium Bee" quest, ask for a Sky Steel Block and a Sky Osmium Block as part of their tasks. You can craft both blocks in-game.[8][10]

How does MEGA Cells work with other mods?
5 parts
MEGA Cells is deeply tied into the rest of the pack's AE2 add-ons, and it also feeds a few recipes from completely different mods. Here's where it shows up.[10]
Sky alloys from other AE add-ons
The pack changed the recipes for the Sky Bronze Ingot, Sky Osmium Ingot and Sky Steel Ingot. Each one has both an Advanced AE reaction recipe and an ExtendedAE crystal assembler recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from other modpacks. The Sky Steel pair is shown below as an example.[10]
Crystal Assembler (extendedae)
4× Charged Certus Quartz Crystal
4× Sky Stone
100× Lava
- 4× any iron ingot

The pack also adds compress and decompress recipes that turn the Sky Bronze, Sky Osmium and Sky Steel blocks into their 1x AllTheCompressed versions and back, for example Sky Steel Block 1x.[10]
Crafting Shaped
9 × Sky Steel Block
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/sky_steel_block_1x
Accumulation processors and the Expanded Crafting Unit
The pack added a KubeJS inscriber recipe for the Printed Accumulation Circuit, using the Universal Press. An ExtendedAE assembler recipe then turns that into the Accumulation Processor. Both are shown below.[10]

Infinity cells
The AllTheModium chapter has a quest, "Infinity ME Cells" quest, that points you to the 256M MEGA Storage Component. It describes infinity cells as cells that provide an infinite amount of one item instead of storing it. The pack adds one cell for each item type, such as Dirt Cell, and each needs the 256M MEGA Storage Component. Most also use Allthemodium, Vibranium and Unobtainium ingots, plus a compressed block of the matching material.[9][10]
Shaped (kubejs)
Recipe id: kubejs:kjs/dirt_cell
Infinity Cobblestone Cell is the exception. Its pack recipe also uses the 256M component but no AllTheModium ingots.[10]
Shaped (kubejs)

Recipes in completely different mods
- The Improbable Probability Device needs a 16M MEGA Storage Component alongside parts from Ender IO, Mekanism, Oritech and RFTools Utility. The pack added this recipe.[10]
- The pack added a Powah energizing recipe for the Creative Energy Cell that involves the ATM Star and the Superdense Energy Cell. It is shown below.[10]

Productive Bees
Two Productive Bees quests ask for MEGA Cells blocks. "Sky Osmium Bee" quest needs a Sky Osmium Block, and "Sky Steel Bee" quest needs a Sky Steel Block. The quest text explains how to create the matching bee spawn eggs by throwing items into lava.[8]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use MEGA Cells?
3 parts
MEGA Cells shows up in three quest chapters in the pack: Applied Energistics 2, Productive Bees and Chapter 3: AllTheModium. The Applied Energistics 2 chapter has the most, so we'll start there.[3][8][9]
Applied Energistics 2 chapter
The chapter has two MEGA Cells lines. The first is "Bulk Item Storage" quest, which comes after the Item Storage quest and asks you to hand in the MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell. Each cell holds only one item type, but it can store a practically infinite amount of it. You have to filter the cell in a Cell Workbench before it accepts an item type.[3]
The second line is a chain of storage component quests. It starts after the 256k Storage Component quest and one other quest in the chapter, and each step unlocks the next, so you go through them in this order:[3]
- "1M Storage Component" quest: submit the 1M MEGA Storage Component. It provides 1,048,576 bytes of storage and is the first MEGA tier.[3]
- "4M Storage Component" quest: submit the 4M MEGA Storage Component, the second MEGA tier, with 4,194,304 bytes.[3]
- "16M Storage Component" quest: submit the 16M MEGA Storage Component, the third tier, with 16,777,216 bytes.[3]
- "64M Storage Component" quest: submit the 64M MEGA Storage Component, the fourth tier, with 67,108,864 bytes.[3]
- "256M Storage Component" quest: submit the 256M MEGA Storage Component, the fifth and final tier, with 268,435,456 bytes.[3]
Productive Bees chapter
Two quests here use MEGA Cells blocks, and both unlock after the same earlier quest in the chapter. Each one asks for a bee-related item (a configurable honeycomb, a configurable comb, a configurable bee spawn egg, a bee cage or a sturdy bee cage) and a MEGA Cells block.[8]
- "Sky Osmium Bee" quest also asks for a Sky Osmium Block. The quest text says that throwing an Osmium Bee Spawn Egg, Charged Certus Quartz and Sky Stone into Lava creates a Sky Osmium Bee Spawn Egg.[8]
- "Sky Steel Bee" quest also asks for a Sky Steel Block. The quest text says that throwing a Spatial Bee Spawn Egg and a Sky Steel Block into Lava creates a Sky Steel Bee Spawn Egg.[8]
Chapter 3: AllTheModium
"Infinity ME Cells" quest comes after the Unobtainium, Vibranium and AllTheModium quests, and its task is to submit a 256M MEGA Storage Component. The quest text explains that infinity cells work like normal cells in a Drive, but they provide an infinite amount of an item instead of storing it. Crafting one takes the 256M component, a huge amount of items, and an AllTheModium, a Vibranium and an Unobtainium ingot.[9]
