What is AllTheCompressed?
1 part
AllTheCompressed is a storage mod. Instead of filling a billion chests, you combine 9 blocks into 1 compressed block. It works with a ton of different blocks, and each compressed block can be compressed even further.[1]
It's for anyone who is hoarding materials, and in this pack that means pretty much everyone. The quest book itself warns you that you'll need lots of materials, and Gravel is its example of something that piles up fast.[1]
This pack ships AllTheCompressed 4.3.0, and the mod has been here since version 1.0 or earlier.[2]
Where it fits in the progression
You meet the mod right at the start. The quest "Compressed Blocks" quest in Chapter 1: Starting out asks you to get Gravel 1x, and it explains the compression idea.[1]
It also turns up in Chapter 2: The Cool Parts. In "Crushing for Flux Dust" quest, Flux Dust normally comes from crushing Redstone against Bedrock with Obsidian. You don't have Bedrock, so the quest has you use Obsidian 1x as a stand-in, which it calls close enough.[3]
- Place the compressed Obsidian down, with normal Obsidian above it and a 1 block gap between them.[3]
- Throw Redstone Dust into the gap.[3]
- Left click the top Obsidian to crush it and get Flux Dust.[3]
Unverified The sources don't show whether AllTheCompressed is part of the ATM Star path, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Check the quest book in-game for more.
How do you get started with AllTheCompressed?
4 parts
Welcome to the compressed blocks! The idea is simple: instead of filling a pile of chests, you squash blocks into denser versions. The pack's early quests walk you through it, and the steps below follow the same order.[1][3]
Step 1: Make your first compressed block
The Chapter 1 quest "Compressed Blocks" quest asks for Gravel 1x. Its text explains the purpose: this is a pack where you need lots of materials, and 9 blocks combine into 1 compressed block. It works on many different blocks, and each result can be compressed even further. Here is the in-pack recipe:[1]
There is also a decompress recipe that turns Gravel 2x back into Gravel 1x, so you are not locked in once you compress.[4]
Step 2: Get gravel from compressed stone
The pack adds several ways to crush compressed stone into Gravel 1x. The inputs are Cobblestone 1x, Andesite 1x, Diorite 1x and Granite 1x. Each has a Mekanism crushing recipe, a Create crushing recipe and an Ex Deorum compressed hammer recipe, all added by the pack. Use whichever machine or tool you have first.[4]
Crushing (mekanism)
Recipe id: allthemods:mekanism/crushing/cobblestone_1x_to_gravel_1x
One of the pack's crushing routes. Create and Ex Deorum have matching recipes added by the pack.
Step 3: Compressed obsidian for Flux Dust
Next, "Crushing for Flux Dust" quest in Chapter 2 uses Obsidian 1x as a stand-in for Bedrock. Flux is made by crushing redstone against Bedrock with obsidian. You don't have Bedrock, but the quest says 1x compressed obsidian is close enough.[3]
- Place the 1x obsidian.[3]
- Place normal obsidian above it, leaving a 1 block gap.[3]
- Throw redstone dust into the gap, then left click the top obsidian to crush it. That gives you Flux Dust.[3]
Going further
Compression goes up one tier at a time. For example, the acacia log recipes run from 1x up to 9x, each tier made from the one before.[4]

How does AllTheCompressed work?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Here's the honest picture for this one: in this pack, the sources I have only show AllTheCompressed as a set of compressed blocks made by hand in a crafting grid. There are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation described anywhere in them.[5]
Compression happens in the crafting grid
Every compression recipe I can see is a shaped crafting recipe, so you don't need any special machine. They all live under the compress recipe path of the mod and are named after the tier they produce, from 1x up to 9x.[5]
The tiers form a chain. The 1x item is made from the plain base block, and every tier after that is made from the tier directly below it. So to get a 9x block you have to build every step from 1x to 8x first. You can't skip tiers.[5]
Acacia is a good example. The first step turns a vanilla acacia log into Acacia Log 1x, and the next step turns that into Acacia Log 2x.[5]
Crafting Shaped
9 × Acacia Log
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/acacia_log_1x
The first step of the chain starts from the vanilla acacia log.
Crafting Shaped
9 × Acacia Log 1x
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/acacia_log_2x
Later steps use the tier directly below as the input.
Planks work the same way, running from Acacia Planks 1x up to Acacia Planks 9x.[5]
Recipes the pack changed
Not every chain is a plain mod default. The pack changed the recipes for the Allthemodium and Aluminum chains, while the acacia recipes are shown as the mod's own.[5]
The Allthemodium chain starts from the Block of Allthemodium (Block of Allthemodium) and produces Allthemodium Block 1x. Each later tier, up to Allthemodium Block 9x, is built from the previous one.[5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/allthemodium_block_1x
This recipe is changed by the pack and starts from the Block of Allthemodium.
The Aluminum chain is a bit more flexible at the start. Aluminum Block 1x accepts any block from the common aluminum storage block tag, so it isn't tied to one mod's aluminum block. After that it continues with Aluminum Block 2x and the higher tiers.[5]
Crafting Shaped
9 × any aluminum storage block
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/aluminum_block_1x
This recipe is changed by the pack and accepts any block in the aluminum storage block tag.
Unverified Anything beyond crafting-table compression is unconfirmed: whether the compressed blocks have special properties, whether they can be uncompressed again, how they behave with automation, and whether any config options exist. The sources here show no guidebook, tooltips or config files for this mod.
How do you progress through AllTheCompressed?
4 parts
Compressed blocks are all about storage. The pack's own quest puts it this way: you need lots of materials, so instead of filling the world with chests, you combine 9 blocks into 1 compressed block. It works on a lot of different blocks, and each compressed block can be compressed even further.[1]
The 1x to 9x tiers
The tiers run from 1x up to 9x. The first step takes the normal block and turns it into the 1x version. Every step after that takes the previous tier and makes the next one. For example, Acacia Log 2x is made from Acacia Log 1x, and Acacia Log 3x is made from Acacia Log 2x. The recipe list shows full 1x to 9x chains for acacia logs, acacia planks, allthemodium blocks, aluminum blocks, amethyst blocks, ancient logs and ancient stone. All of these are shaped crafting recipes.[4]
The first step: normal gravel into Gravel 1x.
Crafting Shaped
9 × Acacia Log 1x
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/acacia_log_2x
Every higher tier follows the same pattern, built from the tier below.
The pack changed some of these chains. The recipes for Allthemodium Block 1x, Aluminum Block 1x, Ancient Log 1x and Ancient Stone 1x, plus every tier above them, are marked as changed by the pack. The aluminum chain starts from any block in the aluminum storage block tag. The acacia and amethyst chains are the mod's own recipes, unchanged. The recipe list does not show what exactly differs from the mod's defaults.[4]
You can also go back down. There are shapeless decompress recipes that turn Gravel 2x into Gravel 1x, and Obsidian 2x into Obsidian 1x.[4]
Quests that use compressed blocks
- Compressed Blocks "Compressed Blocks" quest is in Chapter 1: Starting out. It asks you to get Gravel 1x. The quest asks what to do with your tons of gravel and points you at compression.[1]
- Crushing for Flux Dust "Crushing for Flux Dust" quest is in Chapter 2: The Cool Parts. Its tasks are normal Obsidian, Obsidian 1x and Redstone.[3]
Flux Dust with Compressed Obsidian
Flux is normally made by crushing redstone against bedrock with obsidian. The quest says you don't have bedrock, but Obsidian 1x is close enough. Here is how it works:[3]
- Place Obsidian 1x.[3]
- Place normal obsidian above it with a 1 block gap.[3]
- Throw the redstone dust into the gap between them.[3]
- Left click the top obsidian to crush it. That gives you Flux Dust.[3]

Feeding your gravel stack
The pack adds recipes that turn the 1x versions of cobblestone, andesite, diorite and granite into Gravel 1x. You can do this with Mekanism crushing, with Create crushing, or with the Ex Deorum compressed hammer. All three routes are added by the pack. The items are Cobblestone 1x, Andesite 1x, Diorite 1x and Granite 1x.[4]
Crushing (mekanism)

How does AllTheCompressed work with other mods?
2 parts
Almost every block in this mod is a compressed copy of a block from another mod. The pack has a crafting recipe that turns the other mod's block into its 1x version, and a shapeless recipe that turns it back. Every one of these recipes is marked as changed by the pack.[4]
What can be compressed
- Allthemodium family: Block of Allthemodium, Block of Vibranium, Block of Unobtainium, their raw blocks, the alloy blocks, Ancient Log, Ancient Stone and Block of Piglich Hearts all have a compressed version.[4]
- Storage and sky blocks: Fluix Block, Certus Quartz Block, Sky Stone, Entro Block, Block of Silicon, Charged Redstone Crystal Block, Sky Bronze Block, Sky Osmium Block and Sky Steel Block.[4]
- Crystal and steel blocks: Block Of Blazing Crystal, Block Of Niotic Crystal, Block Of Nitro Crystal, Block Of Spirited Crystal, Block Of Energized Steel and Block Of Uraninite.[4]
- Alloy blocks: Conductive Alloy Block, enderio:copper_alloy_block, Dark Steel Block, End Steel Block, Energetic Alloy Block, Pulsating Alloy Block, Redstone Alloy Block, Soularium Block and Vibrant Alloy Block.[4]
- Ores and metals: compressed Aluminum Block 1x, Brass Block 1x, Bronze Block 1x, Cinnabar Block 1x, Constantan Block 1x, Electrum Block 1x, Enderium Block 1x, Fluorite Block 1x, Invar Block 1x, Iridium Block 1x, Lead Block 1x, Lumium Block 1x and Salt Block 1x each decompress back into the matching block. Salt Block can also be compressed.[4]
- Star and pearl blocks: ATM Star Block, GregStar Block and Nether Star Block can be compressed, and Ender Pearl Block can be recovered from its compressed version.[4]
- Crushed and ground materials: Crushed Netherrack, Crushed Deepslate, Crushed Blackstone, Crushed End Stone and Dust.[4]
- Odds and ends: Antimatter Pellet compresses into Antimatter Block, and there are also compressed versions of Block of Compressed Iron, Wax Block, Darkstone, Kivi and the Xychorium gem storage blocks (blue, dark, green, light and red).[4]
Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: allthecompressed:decompress/fluix_block_1x
The matching shapeless decompress recipe gives the original block back.
Quests that use compressed blocks
In Chapter 1: Starting out, the quest "Compressed Blocks" quest introduces the idea. It asks for Gravel 1x, and its text says you can combine 9 blocks into 1 compressed block instead of filling chests, and that each compressed block can be compressed even further.[1]
In Chapter 2: The Cool Parts, "Crushing for Flux Dust" quest uses the mod to get Flux Dust for Flux Networks. Flux is made by crushing redstone against bedrock with obsidian. You don't have bedrock, so the quest has you use Obsidian 1x instead. Place it, put a normal Obsidian above it with a 1 block gap, throw Redstone between them and left-click the top obsidian to crush it.[3]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use AllTheCompressed?
3 parts
This mod shows up in two quests in the pack, one in each of the first two chapters. Both are early, so you'll meet compressed blocks pretty quickly.[1][3]
Chapter 1: Starting out
"Compressed Blocks" quest is the first one. It asks you to hand in Gravel 1x, and it unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter.[1]
The quest text explains the idea: you'll need lots of materials, and instead of filling up a billion chests, you can combine 9 blocks into 1 compressed block. It works with a ton of different blocks, and each compressed block can be compressed even further.[1]
Chapter 2: The Cool Parts
"Crushing for Flux Dust" quest comes next. It asks you to submit normal Obsidian, Obsidian 1x and Redstone. It follows the chapter's opening quest, The Cool Parts.[3]
This quest is about making Flux Dust for Flux Networks. Flux normally comes from crushing Redstone against Bedrock with Obsidian. You don't have Bedrock here, so the quest has you use Compressed Obsidian instead, which it calls close enough at the 1X level.[3]
- Place the 1x Obsidian block down.[3]
- Put a normal Obsidian block above it, leaving a 1 block gap.[3]
- Throw the Redstone Dust into the gap between them.[3]
- Left click the top Obsidian to crush it. This gives you Flux Dust.[3]
Order
Do Chapter 1 first for the compressed gravel quest, then move on to Chapter 2 for the Flux Dust crushing quest.[1][3]
