What is AllTheCompressed?
1 part
AllTheCompressed is part of the pack, and this version ships with AllTheCompressed 4.2.0 (built for Minecraft 1.21.1). It has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
Where it shows up early
You meet the mod right at the start. The Starting Out chapter has a quest, a quest in "?", whose task uses Cobblestone 1x. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, so you'll reach it as part of your first steps.[2]
Unverified The sources I have don't describe how AllTheCompressed's items are crafted or used, whether the pack changes any of its recipes or configs, or where it fits in the later progression. I've left those out rather than guess. I also found no confirmation that the mod is part of the ATM Star path.
How do you get started with AllTheCompressed?
4 parts
AllTheCompressed adds compressed versions of common blocks, and in this pack the first one you meet is Cobblestone 1x. The quest chapter "chapter_1_starting_out" has a quest, a quest in "?", whose task is that item. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[2]
Step 1: Make Cobblestone 1x
Start here, because the quest asks for it. It is a shaped crafting recipe that comes straight from the mod, and the pack has not changed it.[2][3]
Crafting Shaped
9 × Cobblestone
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/cobblestone_1x
This is the mod's own shaped recipe, unchanged by the pack.
Step 2: Learn how to undo it
Compressing is not a one-way trip. A shapeless recipe turns Cobblestone 2x back into Cobblestone 1x, so you can step a block back down whenever you need to.[3]
A shapeless recipe that turns Cobblestone 2x into Cobblestone 1x.
Step 3: Spot the pattern
The other compressed blocks follow the same chain. The 1x tier is crafted from the normal block, and each higher tier is crafted from the tier below it. Acacia logs, for example, go from Acacia Log 1x up to Acacia Log 9x, one step at a time. Acacia planks, amethyst blocks and aluminum blocks use the same naming.[3]
Crafting Shaped
9 × Acacia Log 1x
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/acacia_log_2x
Each tier is crafted from the previous tier.
Pack-changed recipes
Some compression recipes are changed by the pack, so don't assume the mod's defaults apply. The changed ones include the Allthemodium Block, Aluminum Block, Ancient Log and Ancient Stone families. Check the recipe block before you craft anything in these families.[3]
Crafting Shaped
9 × any aluminum storage block
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/aluminum_block_1x
The pack changed this recipe, so use this one rather than the mod default.
How does AllTheCompressed work?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Here's the honest picture for this one: in this pack, the sources I have only show AllTheCompressed as a set of compressed blocks made by hand in a crafting grid. There are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation described anywhere in them.[4]
Compression happens in the crafting grid
Every compression recipe I can see is a shaped crafting recipe, so you don't need any special machine. They all live under the compress recipe path of the mod and are named after the tier they produce, from 1x up to 9x.[4]
The tiers form a chain. The 1x item is made from the plain base block, and every tier after that is made from the tier directly below it. So to get a 9x block you have to build every step from 1x to 8x first. You can't skip tiers.[4]
Acacia is a good example. The first step turns a vanilla acacia log into Acacia Log 1x, and the next step turns that into Acacia Log 2x.[4]
Crafting Shaped
9 × Acacia Log
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/acacia_log_1x
The first step of the chain starts from the vanilla acacia log.
Crafting Shaped
9 × Acacia Log 1x
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/acacia_log_2x
Later steps use the tier directly below as the input.
Planks work the same way, running from Acacia Planks 1x up to Acacia Planks 9x.[4]
Recipes the pack changed
Not every chain is a plain mod default. The pack changed the recipes for the Allthemodium and Aluminum chains, while the acacia recipes are shown as the mod's own.[4]
The Allthemodium chain starts from the Block of Allthemodium (Block of Allthemodium) and produces Allthemodium Block 1x. Each later tier, up to Allthemodium Block 9x, is built from the previous one.[4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/allthemodium_block_1x
This recipe is changed by the pack and starts from the Block of Allthemodium.
The Aluminum chain is a bit more flexible at the start. Aluminum Block 1x accepts any block from the common aluminum storage block tag, so it isn't tied to one mod's aluminum block. After that it continues with Aluminum Block 2x and the higher tiers.[4]
Crafting Shaped
9 × any aluminum storage block
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/aluminum_block_1x
This recipe is changed by the pack and accepts any block in the aluminum storage block tag.
Unverified Anything beyond crafting-table compression is unconfirmed: whether the compressed blocks have special properties, whether they can be uncompressed again, how they behave with automation, and whether any config options exist. The sources here show no guidebook, tooltips or config files for this mod.
How do you progress through AllTheCompressed?
2 parts
Progression with this mod is a ladder of compression tiers. Materials like Acacia Logs, Amethyst and Andesite come in tiers labelled 1x through 9x. The 1x tier is crafted from the base item, and every step after that is a shaped crafting recipe that takes the tier below it.[3]
The quest book
The one quest for this mod is a quest in "?" in the Starting Out chapter. Its task is to get Cobblestone 1x, and it comes after another quest in the quest book.[2]
Crafting Shaped
9 × Cobblestone
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/cobblestone_1x
This is the first step of the cobblestone ladder, and the item the quest asks for.
You can also go back down. Cobblestone has a shapeless decompress recipe that turns Cobblestone 2x back into Cobblestone 1x.[3]
The decompress recipe is shapeless and turns one 2x block back into 1x.
Pack-changed chains
Some chains don't use the mod's own recipes. The pack changed these ones:[3]
- Aluminum: the 1x tier, Aluminum Block 1x, accepts any block from the aluminum storage block tag. The tiers above it chain normally.[3]
- Allthemodium: the chain starts from the Allthemodium mod's own block, which becomes Allthemodium Block 1x.[3]
- Ancient materials: Ancient Log 1x and Ancient Stone 1x start from the matching Allthemodium items.[3]
- Antimatter: Antimatter Block has its own pack-changed recipe, and Antimatter Block 1x and the tiers above it build on that block.[3]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/antimatter_block
Pack-changed recipe for the base block of the antimatter chain.
Crafting Shaped
9 × any aluminum storage block
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/aluminum_block_1x
Pack-changed: any aluminum storage block works as the input.
How does AllTheCompressed work with other mods?
2 parts
AllTheCompressed connects to other mods by taking their storage blocks and turning them into a compressed 1x version. In this pack, every one of those compress and decompress recipes is marked as changed by the pack.[3]
The usual pattern is this: a compress recipe turns the other mod's block into the matching AllTheCompressed block, and a decompress recipe turns it back into the original block.[3]
Crafting Shaped
9 × Fluix Block
Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/fluix_block_1x
Compressing: the Applied Energistics 2 Fluix Block becomes Fluix Block 1x.
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: allthecompressed:decompress/fluix_block_1x
Decompressing gets you back the original Applied Energistics 2 block.
Which mods connect
- Applied Energistics 2 and its add-ons: Certus Quartz Block, Fluix Block and Sky Stone can be compressed. So can Entro Block and Block of Silicon from ExtendedAE, Sky Bronze Block, Sky Osmium Block and Sky Steel Block from MEGA Cells, and Charged Redstone Crystal Block from AppFlux.[3]
- AllTheModium: Block of Allthemodium, Block of Vibranium, Block of Unobtainium, their raw blocks, the alloy blocks such as Block of Unobtainium - Vibranium Alloy, Block of Piglich Hearts, Ancient Log and Ancient Stone all have compress recipes.[3]
- Powah: Block Of Blazing Crystal, Block Of Niotic Crystal, Block Of Nitro Crystal, Block Of Spirited Crystal, Block Of Uraninite and Block Of Energized Steel can be compressed.[3]
- Ender IO: the conductive alloy, copper alloy, dark steel, end steel, energetic alloy, pulsating alloy, redstone alloy, soularium and vibrant alloy blocks each have a compress recipe into a 1x version, for example Dark Steel Block and Soularium Block.[3]
- AllTheOres: blocks such as Aluminum Block, Osmium Block, Platinum Block and Lead Block have 1x versions in this pack, and Salt Block can be compressed.[3]
- AllTheTweaks: ATM Star Block, GregStar Block and Nether Star Block can be compressed, and Ender Pearl Block can be decompressed from its 1x version.[3]
- XyCraft: Kivi and the blue, dark, green, light and red Xychorium Gem Storage blocks, for example Blue Xychorium Gem Storage, can be compressed.[3]
- Other single connections: Antimatter Pellet from Mekanism becomes Antimatter Block, Block of Compressed Iron from PneumaticCraft can be compressed, and so can Wax Block from Productive Bees.[3]

Quests
The quest book places the one quest for this mod in the Starting Out chapter. It asks for Cobblestone 1x and comes after another quest in that chapter. That item belongs to AllTheCompressed itself, so this quest does not mix it with another mod. The quest is a quest in "?".[2]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use AllTheCompressed?
The sources I have only show one quest that involves this mod, and it sits in the Starting Out chapter (chapter 1).[2]
- a quest in "?" has no title in the pack files. Its single task is an item task for Cobblestone 1x.[2]
- It unlocks after you finish a quest in "?", so that quest comes first.[2]
That is the whole picture from the data I have: one quest, one task, one prerequisite. Start with the earlier quest, then come back for the cobblestone one.[2]
Unverified I could not confirm any other quest chapters that use this mod, or any rewards for the quest above, so I have left them out.
