What is AllTheCompressed?

1 part

AllTheCompressed adds compressed versions of common blocks and items, so you can store a lot of material in much less space. This pack includes version 4.2.0 of AllTheCompressed, and it has been part of the pack since 1.0 or earlier.[1]

It matters most in a skyblock start. You'll be collecting huge amounts of basic materials like cobble, sand and dust for processing, and your chests fill up fast. Compressing them in a crafting table keeps your storage manageable.[2]

Where it fits in progression

You meet the mod early, in Chapter 1: Starting out. The quest "Compressed Items" quest unlocks after the quest "All rock, No roll" and asks you to get Cobblestone 1x. The quest describes compressing as something that "saves space and time". It also mentions hammering compressed items in bulk, but the quest text available to me cuts off before saying what that requires.[2]

Tip: Start compressing your cobble, sand and dust as soon as the quest shows up. It's an easy way to keep your early storage from overflowing.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't show AllTheCompressed on the ATM Star quest path, and they give no further detail on its role beyond Chapter 1.

How do you get started with AllTheCompressed?

1 part

AllTheCompressed lets you pack common blocks into compressed versions so your Skyblock storage doesn't explode. The pack introduces it in Chapter 1 with the quest "Compressed Items" quest. It points out that you'll be collecting a lot of basic items like cobble, sand and dust, and compressing them saves room.[2]

Your first steps, in order

  1. Work through the quest chain until you reach Compressed Items. It comes after the quest called All rock, No roll, so finish that one first.[2]
  2. Make your first compressed item, Cobblestone 1x. It's the item the quest asks for. The quest says you compress items by combining 9 of them in a crafting table. The recipe below is the exact in-pack one.[2][3]
  3. Keep stacking tiers once you're comfortable. Each tier is crafted from the previous one. Acacia logs, for example, run from Acacia Log 1x up to Acacia Log 9x.[3]
  4. Break things back down when you need the raw material. The decompress recipe turns Cobblestone 2x back into Cobblestone 1x.[3]

Tip: The pack changes some of the compress recipes, including the first-tier ones for Allthemodium Block 1x, Aluminum Block 1x, Ancient Log 1x and Ancient Stone 1x. Don't assume the mod's defaults for those. Check the recipe shown in the pack.[3]

How does AllTheCompressed work?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Here's the honest picture for this one: in this pack, the sources I have only show AllTheCompressed as a set of compressed blocks made by hand in a crafting grid. There are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation described anywhere in them.[4]

Compression happens in the crafting grid

Every compression recipe I can see is a shaped crafting recipe, so you don't need any special machine. They all live under the compress recipe path of the mod and are named after the tier they produce, from 1x up to 9x.[4]

The tiers form a chain. The 1x item is made from the plain base block, and every tier after that is made from the tier directly below it. So to get a 9x block you have to build every step from 1x to 8x first. You can't skip tiers.[4]

Acacia is a good example. The first step turns a vanilla acacia log into Acacia Log 1x, and the next step turns that into Acacia Log 2x.[4]

Later steps use the tier directly below as the input.

Planks work the same way, running from Acacia Planks 1x up to Acacia Planks 9x.[4]

Recipes the pack changed

Not every chain is a plain mod default. The pack changed the recipes for the Allthemodium and Aluminum chains, while the acacia recipes are shown as the mod's own.[4]

The Allthemodium chain starts from the Block of Allthemodium (Block of Allthemodium) and produces Allthemodium Block 1x. Each later tier, up to Allthemodium Block 9x, is built from the previous one.[4]

This recipe is changed by the pack and starts from the Block of Allthemodium.

The Aluminum chain is a bit more flexible at the start. Aluminum Block 1x accepts any block from the common aluminum storage block tag, so it isn't tied to one mod's aluminum block. After that it continues with Aluminum Block 2x and the higher tiers.[4]

This recipe is changed by the pack and accepts any block in the aluminum storage block tag.

Tip: The recipe dump I have is truncated, so I can only confirm the chains for acacia logs, acacia planks, Allthemodium and Aluminum.[4]

Unverified Anything beyond crafting-table compression is unconfirmed: whether the compressed blocks have special properties, whether they can be uncompressed again, how they behave with automation, and whether any config options exist. The sources here show no guidebook, tooltips or config files for this mod.

How do you progress through AllTheCompressed?

2 parts

AllTheCompressed doesn't have a tech tree. Its tiers are simply compression levels, and you climb them in the crafting table. The pack introduces it early, in Chapter 1 with the quest "Compressed Items" quest (Compressed Items). It unlocks after the quest All rock, No roll, and its task is to get Cobblestone 1x.[2]

The quest explains why you want this in Skyblock: you'll be collecting a lot of basic items like cobble, sand and dust, and compressing them saves room. It tells you to combine 9 in a crafting table.[2]

How the tiers stack

The materials in the recipe list all follow the same ladder. The normal item becomes the 1x version, the 1x becomes the 2x, and so on, with each step using only the previous tier. Acacia Log 1x through Acacia Log 9x are one example, running from 1x up to 9x.[3]

9 × Cobblestone

Recipe id: allthecompressed:compress/cobblestone_1x

You can go back down too. The pack has a shapeless decompress recipe that turns Cobblestone 2x into Cobblestone 1x.[3]

Materials the pack changed

Some ladders use the mod's own recipes, with the first step starting from the vanilla item. That covers cobblestone, acacia logs, acacia planks, amethyst blocks and andesite. Other ladders are marked as changed by the pack, and in those the first step starts from a block from another mod.[3]

The pack-changed first step for antimatter, before the numbered tiers begin.

How does AllTheCompressed work with other mods?

2 parts

AllTheCompressed is mostly a bridge mod in this pack. Its blocks are compressed "1x" versions of storage blocks that other mods already add, so almost every connection runs through a compress recipe and a matching decompress recipe. The recipe dump marks all of them as changed by the pack, so what you see here is the pack's setup, not the mod's defaults.[3]

Compressing is a shaped crafting recipe and decompressing is a shapeless one. Here is the pair for Fluix.[3]

Which mods connect

Mekanism is a slightly different case. Compressing Antimatter Pellet gives you Antimatter Block, which has no "1x" in its name, and decompressing it gives the pellet back.[3]

In the quests

The quest "Compressed Items" quest sits in Chapter 1: Starting out, right after the quest "All rock, No roll". Its task is to obtain Cobblestone 1x. The quest text explains that in Skyblock you will collect lots of basic items like cobble, sand and dust, and that you can save room by combining 9 in a crafting table.[2]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use AllTheCompressed?

1 part

In this pack, AllTheCompressed shows up in just one quest, and it's in the first chapter, "Chapter 1: Starting out". That makes it an early, easy one to pick up.[2]

Chapter 1: Starting out

The quest is "Compressed Items" quest. It unlocks after you finish the quest called "All rock, No roll", so that's the one to clear first.[2]

The task is to hand in Cobblestone 1x. The quest text explains why: in Skyblock you'll collect lots of basic items for processing, like cobble, sand and dust. To save room, you can compress them by combining 9 in a crafting table.[2]

The quest text goes on to mention what you'll need if you want to hammer compressed items in bulk. The text I have cuts off there, so I can't tell you what it asks for.[2]

Unverified Whether any other chapters have quests that involve this mod could not be confirmed from the available quest data.
