What is Generator Galore?

3 parts

The pack ships Generator Galore 1.21.1-1.7.0, a mod that adds a ladder of very simple generators. The most basic ones act like Furnaces with Augment: Generator, so you feed them fuel and they turn it into Energy.[1][2]

How the upgrade line works

You always start with the Copper Generator, and you need one to make the Iron Generator. Each upgrade improves everything: how much Energy it makes, how much it can hold and what it can transfer to other blocks.[2]

The Gold Generator comes next, and from there the line branches. The Diamond Generator still uses normal Furnace fuel. After it, the Emerald Generator is very fast but can't be upgraded any further. The Netherite Generator makes Energy at the same rate as the Emerald but has a much higher transfer rate. The Obsidian Generator is slower than both but has more upgrades than all of those combined.[2]

The Culinary Generator also follows Gold and runs on food, with more Food Points giving more Energy. After it come the Honey Generator, which uses Liquid Honey, and the Potion Generator, which uses Potions. After the Obsidian Generator you get the Magmatic Generator (Lava in, Energy out), the Enchantment Generator, which burns Enchanted Books, and the Ender Generator, which runs on Ender Pearls or Eyes of Ender.[2]

Compact versions

Crafting 8 of the same generator together with an Echo Shard makes one 8x generator. It works like 8 regular generators but takes the space of 1. Crafting 8 of the same 8x generators together with a Conduit makes a 64x generator, which works like 64 regular ones.[2]

Where it fits in the pack

The quest chapter is Generators N Furnaces. It opens with "Copper Generator" quest, which comes after the Furnace quest, and then follows the upgrade line described above.[2]

The ATM Star path uses this mod. A 64x Magmatic Generator is needed to craft the ATM Star. The Star chapter also has quests for the Ender Generator and the 64x Netherstar Generator, all following the Generator Galore quest. The Netherstar one is described as the most powerful and expensive generator, and it needs an Echo Shard, a Conduit and a ton of Netherstar Generators.[2][3]

How do you get started with Generator Galore?

5 parts

Generator Galore adds very simple generators. The most basic ones act like furnaces: you feed them fuel and they turn it into energy. In this pack the quest book lists the Copper Generator in the "New Beginning" chapter next to the other starter generators, which usually burn coal or lava to make FE. That entry comes after the Power quest.[2][4]

The generator recipes in this pack are the pack's own versions. The recipe blocks below show them exactly as they are here.[5]

Step 1: the Copper Generator

Start with the Copper Generator. The pack's quest is blunt about it: you have to start with Copper. It comes after The Furnace in the "Generators N Furnaces" chapter, as "Copper Generator" quest.[2]

Step 2: the Iron Generator

Next, make the Iron Generator. You need a Copper Generator to make it. Each upgrade improves everything: how much energy it makes, how much it can hold, and what it can transfer to other blocks. See "Iron Generator" quest.[2][5]

Step 3: the Gold Generator

The Gold Generator is the key step. It opens up the more unusual generators, the ones that don't just take furnace fuel. It follows the Iron Generator in "Gold Generator" quest.[2][5]

Step 4: pick your branch

After gold, the quest book splits into two branches.[2]

The Emerald Generator makes energy very fast, but it can't be upgraded any further. The Obsidian Generator is slower than the Emerald and Netherite ones, but it has more upgrades than both of them combined.[2]

Saving space with 8x generators

Once you have a few generators, you can combine 8 of the same type into one block that works like 8 regular generators but takes up the space of 1. The quest "8x What a deal!" quest covers this, and it comes after the Copper Generator quest. Here is the Copper version as an example. The other generators have matching recipes.[2][5]

You can go one step further and combine 8 of the 8x versions into a 64x generator, which works like 64 regular ones in the space of 1. The pack has 64x recipes for the Culinary, Enchantment, Ender, Halitosis, Honey, Magmatic, Netherite, Netherstar and Potion generators.[2][5]

Tip: Keep the Magmatic Generator in mind. The pack's quests say a 64x Magmatic Generator is needed to craft the ATM Star, so it's worth planning toward it.[2][3]

How does Generator Galore work?

4 parts

Generator Galore adds generators that produce energy in FE. The sources for this pack explain only a few parts of how they work: the generator screen, the 8x and 64x tiers, the server config options and the upgrade items. This section covers those.[5][6][7]

Reading a generator's screen

A generator's screen shows the remaining fuel time and the transfer rate in FE/t.[6]

Tiers: base, 8x and 64x

Generators come in bigger versions. Take the Culinary Generator as an example. It has an 8x version, 8x Culinary Generator, and a 64x version, 64x Culinary Generator. The language file also lists a 64x Copper Generator. The recipes shown for this pack cover 64x versions only of the culinary, enchantment, ender, halitosis, honey, magmatic, netherite, netherstar and potion generators.[5][6]

The pack changes the recipes for the 8x step and for the 64x step. Here is an example of each.[5]

The pack changes this 8x recipe.

The pack changes this 64x recipe.

Watch out: The pack sets General.increasedConsumption to true. That makes 8x and 64x generators increase the consumption rate as well as the production rate, so a bigger tier is not free extra power.[7]

Server tick rate

General.tickRate controls how often a generator ticks. The pack uses 5, which is also the mod default, so a generator ticks once every 5 ticks. The allowed range is 1 to 64.[7]

Tip: If you build lots of generators and your world starts to lag, raise the tick rate value. The config comment itself recommends increasing it when you have performance issues.[7]

Upgrade paths

The mod has upgrade items that link the generator types together. They are named Copper to Iron, Iron to Gold, and Gold to Diamond or Gold to Culinary. Then come Diamond to Emerald, Diamond to Netherite and Diamond to Obsidian, plus Culinary to Honey and Culinary to Potion. Obsidian has Obsidian to Enchantment, Obsidian to Ender and Obsidian to Magmatic, while Ender to Halitosis and Netherite to Netherstar finish the list.[6]

How do you progress through Generator Galore?

6 parts

Generator Galore is a straight ladder: you start at the bottom with a Copper Generator and work up. The most basic generators act like furnaces with Augment: Generator, so they take fuel and turn it into Energy. The quests say you have to start with copper. In the New Beginning chapter, the Copper Generator is one of several starter generators that count for early power.[2][4]

Each tier is built from the generator of the previous tier, and every upgrade improves everything, from how much Energy it makes to how much it holds and how fast it can transfer to other blocks. The recipe dump marks every Generator Galore recipe in this pack as changed by the pack, so don't rely on mod defaults from other modpacks.[2][5]

The main tier path

  1. Copper to Iron: the quest "Copper Generator" quest comes after The Furnace, then "Iron Generator" quest unlocks the Iron Generator. Copper has to come first.[2][5]
  2. Iron to Gold: "Gold Generator" quest gives you the Gold Generator. Gold also opens the door to unique generators that don't just burn furnace fuel.[2][5]
  3. Gold branches two ways: the Diamond Generator (still normal furnace fuel) and the Culinary Generator.[2][5]

Diamond branch

  • Emerald Generator: a very fast rate of making Energy from fuel, so it is very efficient. The catch is that it can't be upgraded any further. It still uses normal furnace fuel.[2]
  • Netherite Generator: makes Energy at the same rate as the Emerald Generator but with a much higher transfer rate. In this pack it is a smithing recipe built from the Diamond Generator.[2][5]
  • Netherstar Generator: comes after the Netherite Generator and is described as the most powerful and efficient generator.[2][5]
  • Obsidian Generator: slower than the Emerald and Netherite generators, but with more upgrades than both of those combined. It leads to the Magmatic, Ender and Enchantment generators.[2][5]

Obsidian branch

Culinary branch

The Culinary Generator is the first unique one. It doesn't take coal, lava or logs, it takes food. Anything with food points works, and the Energy depends on how many food points the food has, so steak beats a carrot.[2]

Upgrade items

The pack also has dedicated upgrade items for most steps, such as Copper to Iron Upgrade, Gold to Diamond Upgrade and Obsidian to Ender Upgrade. They all have their own recipes. The Ender Generator quest in the ATM Star chapter confirms you can upgrade an Obsidian Generator into an Ender Generator.[3][5]

8x and 64x generators

Once you have a generator, you can compact it. Crafting 8 of the same generator with an Echo Shard makes an 8x version that works like 8 regular generators in the space of one. Crafting 8 of the same 8x generator with a Conduit makes a 64x version that works like 64 regular ones.[2][5]

The quests list 64x versions for Culinary, Enchantment, Ender, Halitosis, Honey, Magmatic, Netherite, Netherstar and Potion. Per the quest text, a 64x Magmatic Generator is needed to craft the ATM Star, and the ATM Star chapter also has quests for the 64x Netherstar Generator and the Ender Generator.[2][3]

Tip: If you're heading for the ATM Star, plan your Obsidian branch early. Magmatic and Ender both come from the Obsidian Generator, and the ATM Star chapter's Ender Generator quest says you can use it for Energy or for the Star.[2][3]

How does Generator Galore work with other mods?

3 parts

Generator Galore doesn't just sit in its own corner of the pack. Its generators show up in a couple of pack-made crafting recipes and in quest chapters that tie it to other mods. Here's where the connections are.[2][3][4][5]

Recipes added by the pack

The pack adds a shaped recipe for Philosopher's Fuel. It mixes Generator Galore generators with items from several other mods, so you can't make it from one mod's progression alone. Here's the exact in-pack recipe.[5]

The pack also adds a shaped recipe for Wither's Compass. It is another case where a top-tier Generator Galore block is required alongside items from other mods.[5]

Recipe id: allthemods:allthetweaks/withers_compass

Tip: Both recipes use the huge 64x generators, which are made by combining 8x generators. Start building those early, because you'll need them for more than just power.[2][5]

The ATM Star

Generator Galore is also part of the ATM Star progression. The quest text says a 64x Magmatic Generator is needed to craft the ATM Star, and the chapter has a quest for it ("64x Magmatic Generator" quest). The quest text describes it as something that can eat Lava like no other, or be used for the Star.[2][3]

The same chapter points you to the 64x Netherstar Generator (a quest in "The ATM Star"), which it describes as the most powerful and expensive generator from the mod. It also points you to the Ender Generator ("Ender Generator" quest), which you get by upgrading an Obsidian Generator.[3]

Unverified Which other mods can pipe items or fluids into Generator Galore generators, or draw FE from them, isn't covered by the recipes and quests I have, so it's unverified.

Which All the Mons quests use Generator Galore?

4 parts

Generator Galore shows up in three quest chapters in the pack. Most of it is in "Generators N Furnaces", which walks you through the whole generator line. Two other chapters, "The ATM Star" and "New Beginning", pull in a few of these generators too.[2][3][4]

Generators N Furnaces

This chapter starts after the Furnace quest. The basic generators work like Furnaces and turn fuel into Energy. Each upgrade improves everything, from how much Energy it makes to how much it holds and transfers. The quests branch out from there, so here is the order.[2]

  1. "Copper Generator" quest: get a Copper Generator. The quest says you have to start with Copper.[2]
  2. "Iron Generator" quest: get an Iron Generator. You need a Copper Generator to make it.[2]
  3. "Gold Generator" quest: get a Gold Generator. This opens up generators that don't just take furnace fuel.[2]

After Gold the chapter splits into two paths. The first is a quest in "Generators N Furnaces", the Culinary Generator. It burns food instead of coal, lava or logs, and the Energy depends on the food points, so steak gives more than a carrot. That quest leads to two more:[2]

The second path is "Diamond Generator" quest, the Diamond Generator, which still uses normal furnace fuel. Three quests come after it:[2]

Obsidian unlocks the last three generators. "Magmatic Generator" quest asks for the Magmatic Generator, which turns lava into Energy. "Ender Generator" quest asks for the Ender Generator, which uses Ender Pearls and can also use Eyes of Ender. "Enchantment Generator" quest asks for the Enchantment Generator, which burns Enchanted Books. Ender then leads to "Halitosis Generator" quest, the Halitosis Generator, which makes Energy from Dragon's Breath.[2]

Combined generators

"8x What a deal!" quest unlocks right after Copper. It accepts an 8x version of any of 14 generators, for example 8x Copper Generator. An 8x generator works like 8 regular ones but takes up the space of 1.[2]

The next quest, a quest in "Generators N Furnaces", asks for a 64x version of nine of the generators, such as 64x Culinary Generator. A 64x generator works like 64 regular ones in the space of 1. The quest also says a 64x Magmatic Generator is needed to craft the ATM Star.[2]

The ATM Star

Three quests in this chapter come after the Generator Galore quest and tie into the Star:[3]

New Beginning

In this chapter, a quest in "New Beginning" comes after the Power quest and is about starting energy production. It accepts any one of several starter generators, and the Copper Generator is one of them. The other options come from other mods.[4]

Which Generator Galore config options matter?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Generator Galore doesn't have a big list of tweakable options in this pack. The one that really matters is General.increasedConsumption, and it changes how you should plan your upgraded generators.[8]

Increased fuel consumption

This pack sets General.increasedConsumption to true. With this option on, the 8x and 64x generators burn fuel faster as well as producing more power. Without it, those tiers would only boost the production rate.[8]

Watch out: Because this option is on, an 8x or 64x generator isn't a free power multiplier. It eats through its fuel faster too, so make sure your fuel supply can keep up before you build an upgraded tier.[8]

The option's own description says this behaviour will be on by default in 1.22. If you're used to a newer version of the mod, this pack should feel familiar.[8]

Unverified The pack files don't confirm whether the mod's default for this option in this version is false, so it's unverified whether the pack changed this value or just kept the default.
