Iron Furnaces is a mod in All the Mons 1.3.0, where it is version 4.3.2. Inspired by cpw's Iron Chests mod, adds a few different tiers of furnace. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Iron Furnaces?

3 parts

Iron Furnaces adds tiers of upgraded furnaces, inspired by cpw's Iron Chests mod. The pack ships version 4.3.2. It is for anyone who wants to smelt faster than a normal furnace, and it has reconfigurable sides and augments for things like smoking and blasting.[1][2]

The furnace ladder

The quest book lists a normal furnace at 200 ticks per item, and each tier is quicker. Copper Furnace takes 180 ticks, Iron Furnace takes 160, Silver Furnace takes 140, Golden Furnace takes 120, and Diamond Furnace takes 80. That is 4 seconds, which the quest points out is faster than a Blast Furnace. The ladder continues past Diamond with the Crystal Furnace and Emerald Furnace.[3]

Beyond speed

Where it fits in the pack

The furnace quests sit in the Generators N Furnaces chapter. The early tiers are an easy upgrade path, starting with "Iron Furnace" quest.[3]

The mod also feeds the ATM Star path. The Rainbow Furnace quest, "2 Rainbow Furnaces" quest, comes after the Iron Furnaces quest. It says the Rainbow Furnace smelts a stack of items at a time, and it names the Rainbow Core and Rainbow Plating as the parts you work towards. The quest also mentions needing 2 of them for the Improbable Probability Device.[4]

The plating quest, "Rainbow Plating" quest, says you need every furnace before Netherite, including the Copper and Silver ones. Rainbow Coal comes from blowing up a Rainbow Furnace, so don't do that until you have what you need.[3][4]

How do you get started with Iron Furnaces?

6 parts

Iron Furnaces is all about smelting with better furnaces instead of more furnaces. You're going to smelt a ton in a modded world, and the better the furnace, the faster it smelts and the more it smelts. That also saves you TPS. Here's the order I'd go in.[5]

Start with a Copper Furnace

Begin with the Copper Furnace. A normal furnace takes 200 ticks to smelt one item (20 ticks is 1 second), while the Copper Furnace takes 180. It's a small boost, but copper is easy to find. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default, so use the one below. The quest for it is "Copper Furnace" quest.[3][6]

Step up to an Iron Furnace

The Iron Furnace takes 160 ticks, or 8 seconds. You can craft it from a normal furnace or from a Copper Furnace, and there's a recipe for each. See "Iron Furnace" quest.[3][6]

Power furnaces wirelessly

You don't have to feed every furnace fuel. Wireless Heat is an easy alternative, and the pack has a quest for it. The setup goes like this:[3]

  1. Place the Wireless Heat Transmitter and put energy into it.[3][7]
  2. Put the Wireless Heat Receiver into the transmitter to bind it.[3][7]
  3. Put the receiver into the furnace's fuel slot and it starts powering the furnace.[3][7]
Watch out: The Wireless Heat Receiver only works from Iron tier and above, so a Copper Furnace won't accept it.[7]

Set up sides and copy settings

Click the top left of a furnace's screen to open its configuration. There you can set inputs, outputs and redstone activation, and choose what each side of the furnace does. That matters once you pipe items in and out. The Furnace Settings Linker copies all of those settings to other furnaces, which saves a lot of clicking. See "Configurations" quest.[3]

Try an augment

Augments change how a furnace behaves, and you right-click one to insert it. Augment: Blasting turns an Iron Furnace into a blast furnace that only smelts ores, at twice the speed. Augment: Smoking turns it into a smoker that only handles food, also at twice the speed. Both stack with other augments and furnace tiers.[3][7]

Tip: Don't throw away your early furnaces. The Rainbow Plating needs nearly every furnace tier, including the Copper and Silver ones.[3][6]

How does Iron Furnaces work?

7 parts

Iron Furnaces adds several tiers of furnace with reconfigurable sides and augments for smoking and blasting. This section covers the systems that matter once you start building with them: tiers, speed, augments, power and XP.[1]

Tiers and energy storage

Each furnace has a tier from 0 to 2. The tier decides how much energy it can store. In this pack the buffers are 80,000 for tier 0, 200,000 for tier 1 and 1,000,000 for tier 2. These match the mod defaults. You can find them at furnaces.energy.tier_0, furnaces.energy.tier_1 and furnaces.energy.tier_2.[8]

Smelting speed

Speed is set per furnace as the number of ticks for one smelting operation, and a regular furnace takes 200 ticks. In this pack every furnace uses its mod-default speed:[8]

  • Copper: 180 ticks. Iron: 160. Silver: 140. Gold: 120.[8]
  • Diamond: 80 ticks. Emerald and Crystal: 40 each.[8]
  • Obsidian and Rainbow: 20 ticks each. Netherite: 5.[8]
  • Allthemodium: 5 ticks. Unobtainium: 1.[8]

The Allthemodium and Unobtainium furnaces also smelt several items at once. The Allthemodium Furnace handles 16 items at a time and the Unobtainium Furnace handles 64, set by modded_furnaces.allthemodium_furnace.mult and modded_furnaces.unobtainium_furnace.mult. A regular furnace only smelts 1 item at once.[6][8]

Crafting the upgrade chain

Most furnaces are crafted by upgrading the previous furnace. The pack changed the recipes for the copper, silver, netherite, allthemodium, vibranium and unobtainium furnaces, so don't trust what you remember from the base mod for those. Here are two of them as the pack has them:[6]

Augments

Augments change how a furnace behaves. You right-click to insert one, and each comes with a trade-off.[7]

There are also redstone augments with several modes. Control mode stops smelting while the furnace gets a redstone signal. Inverse control mode only smelts while it gets a signal. Comparator mode acts as an internal comparator and outputs the signal to all sides. Comparator subtraction mode works the same, but you set the subtracted signal strength in the furnace GUI. Right-click in the air to change mode.[7]

The furnace GUI also adds configurable sides for item transfer, so you decide which sides take items in and out.[7]

Power generation

With the generator augment, each furnace produces a fixed amount of RF per tick. The numbers below are this pack's values, and they equal the mod defaults. Check the generation option of each furnace in the config if you want to tune one.[7][8]

  • Iron and Copper: 40 RF/tick each. Silver: 100. Gold: 160.[8]
  • Diamond: 240 RF/tick. Emerald: 320. Crystal: 360.[8]
  • Obsidian: 500 RF/tick. Netherite: 1,000.[8]
  • Rainbow and Allthemodium: 2,000 RF/tick each. Unobtainium: 5,000.[8]

The Rainbow Furnace is special. It has a separate furnaces.rainbow_furnace.rainbow_generation option, set to 50,000 in this pack. Its tooltip says that figure applies only if all other furnaces are generating power. For that, one of each tier of furnace must be an active generator that doesn't have a full buffer. It outputs energy to any side configured as output and doesn't add energy to its internal buffer. You can only have one Rainbow Generator.[7][8]

Wireless heat

If you'd rather power furnaces than burn fuel, use the Wireless Heat Transmitter and the Wireless Heat Receiver. Feed the transmitter Forge Energy and it powers every bound receiver. To bind one, place the receiver in the transmitter. Then put the receiver in the fuel slot of a furnace. It only works from Iron tier and above.[7]

Experience

Furnaces store the XP from recipes. In this pack the cap is furnaces.recipeMaxXPLevel.level = 100 levels, which the config describes as 30,971 XP. Once the experience stored in a recipe reaches that value, it is voided. An XP augment can send the experience to nearby fluid tanks, or give it to the player who placed the furnace. Sneak and right-click in the air to switch between those modes.[7][8]

How do you progress through Iron Furnaces?

4 parts

Iron Furnaces is all about smelting faster and smelting more with fewer machines, which saves you time and TPS. In this pack the progression is a ladder: you start with a regular furnace and climb through the tiers, with a quest for each step. The first quest, "Iron Furnaces" quest, is completed with either a Copper Furnace or an Iron Furnace. The Copper and Iron Furnace quests both come right after The Furnace.[3][5]

The tier ladder

Here is the path from the bottom up, with the smelt time per item that the quests give. Remember that 20 ticks is 1 second.[3]

Tip: Augments stack on top of tier speed. Augment: Speed turns a Diamond Furnace from 80 ticks into 40 ticks per item, but it uses twice the fuel. Augment: Blasting (ores) and Augment: Smoking (food) each make the furnace twice as fast for what they handle, and they stack with other augments and furnace tiers.[3]

What this pack changed

Most furnace recipes are the mod's own, but this pack changed several. The Copper Furnace, both Silver Furnace recipes, the Netherite Furnace, the Allthemodium Furnace, the Vibranium Furnace and the Unobtainium Furnace all have pack-modified recipes, as does the Obsidian to Netherite Furnace Upgrade. Check the in-pack versions below instead of assuming the mod defaults.[6]

Upgrade items

Besides crafting one furnace from another, the mod has upgrade items named after the step they cover, like Stone to Copper Furnace Upgrade (Stone to Copper), Diamond to Emerald Furnace Upgrade (Diamond to Emerald) and Netherite to Allthemodium Furnace Upgrade (Netherite to Allthemodium). Each has its own recipe in the pack, and the top of the chain is Vibranium to Unobtainium Furnace Upgrade (Vibranium to Unobtainium).[6]

The Rainbow Furnace

The Rainbow Furnace is the showpiece beyond the Netherite tier. It takes 20 ticks, or 1 second, but it smelts a whole stack of items at once instead of one. The quest ("Rainbow Furnace" quest) says you need 8 Rainbow Plating and 1 Rainbow Core, and it comes after both of those quests.[3]

Rainbow Plating ("Rainbow Plating" quest) needs every furnace before Netherite, including the Copper, Silver and Crystal ones. Rainbow Core ("Rainbow Core" quest) comes after the Netherite Furnace quest and is built from a Netherite Furnace and colored glass.[3][6]

Rainbow Plating is a shapeless recipe made from furnaces.

Rainbow Core uses a Netherite Furnace and stained glass.

The Rainbow Furnace combines the core and the plating.

If you blow up a Rainbow Furnace, you get Rainbow Coal ("Rainbow Coal" quest), which the quest describes as coal that lasts a very long time. The Rainbow Generator quest ("Rainbow Generator" quest) describes a bonus for a Rainbow Furnace running Augment: Generator when the other 9 furnaces around it are also generating energy: it makes 2kFE a tick more. That quest does not count Allthemodium furnaces and above.[3][4]

How does Iron Furnaces work with other mods?

5 parts

Iron Furnaces is mostly self-contained in this pack, but the pack ties a few of its top-end items into recipes from other mods. These links come from pack-added recipes, so you won't find them in the mod by default. Here's where they show up.[6]

Rainbow Furnace and the Improbable Probability Device

The Rainbow Furnace is one of the inputs for the Improbable Probability Device. The pack adds this recipe with KubeJS. It mixes items from several different mods, and the Rainbow Furnace is the Iron Furnaces piece of it.[6]

Rainbow Coal and Philosopher's Fuel

Rainbow Coal is used to make Philosopher's Fuel. This is another pack-added recipe. It draws on items from many other mods, and the Rainbow Coal is the one from this mod.[6]

Unobtainium Furnace and the jetpack Thruster

The Unobtainium Furnace also appears in a pack-added recipe for the Thruster from Iron Jetpacks. Besides the furnace, that recipe takes blocks from other mods.[6]

Energy and piping

The quest for Augment: Factory compares it to the Smelting Factory from Mekanism. With the augment installed, the furnace runs on Energy instead of fuel, so you pipe Energy in and it starts smelting.[3]

The configuration quest also says the furnace's side settings matter when items are piped in or out. Each side can be set to input, output, both, input fuel, or nothing. The quest doesn't name any specific piping mod.[3]

Mod-level compatibility

The Iron Furnaces project page says the mod should be compatible with most mods. It lists explicit compatibility with JEI and Project MMO. That comes from the mod's own page, not from anything the pack changes.[1]

Which All the Mons quests use Iron Furnaces?

6 parts

Iron Furnaces shows up in three quest chapters: New Beginning, Generators N Furnaces and The ATM Star. Most of the work is in Generators N Furnaces, which walks you up the whole furnace ladder. Here they are in the order you'll meet them.[3][4][5]

New Beginning

The intro is "Iron Furnaces" quest, which unlocks after the Furnace quest. Its task is to get either a Copper Furnace or an Iron Furnace. It explains that better furnaces smelt faster and smelt more, so you can save time and TPS by upgrading instead of building more furnaces. It also mentions Augments, which can change fuel, energy, what gets smelted, and efficiency.[5]

Generators N Furnaces: the furnace ladder

Both starter quests unlock after a quest called The Furnace. From there the chapter climbs tier by tier. The quest text gives smelt times in ticks, where 20 ticks is 1 second.[3]

  1. "Copper Furnace" quest and "Iron Furnace" quest both ask for their furnace. The quest text says a normal furnace takes 200 ticks, the Copper Furnace 180 and the Iron Furnace 160.[3]
  2. "Silver Furnace" quest comes next with the Silver Furnace, at 140 ticks.[3]
  3. "Golden Furnace" quest asks for the Golden Furnace, at 120 ticks.[3]
  4. "Diamond Furnace" quest asks for the Diamond Furnace, at 80 ticks.[3]
  5. "Crystal Furnace" quest and "Emerald Furnace" quest are a choice of branches after the Diamond Furnace. The Crystal Furnace and Emerald Furnace both work at 40 ticks.[3]
  6. "Obsidian Furnace" quest needs either of those two and asks for the Obsidian Furnace, at 20 ticks.[3]
  7. "Netherite Furnace" quest asks for the Netherite Furnace, at 5 ticks.[3]
  8. "Allthemodium Furnace" quest, then "Vibranium Furnace" quest, then "Unobtainium Furnace" quest finish the line with the Allthemodium Furnace, Vibranium Furnace and Unobtainium Furnace. The last quest says the Unobtainium Furnace smelts faster than any other furnace in the pack.[3]

Side quests

After the Copper and Iron quests, several extras open up. a quest in "Generators N Furnaces" covers wireless heat with the Wireless Heat Transmitter and Wireless Heat Receiver. "Configurations" quest explains the furnace configuration screen and hands you the Furnace Settings Linker, which copies those settings to other furnaces. a quest in "Generators N Furnaces" gives you the Furnace Wrapping Papers, and a quest in "Generators N Furnaces" the Furnace Spooka-lator. Both are cosmetic.[3]

Augments

The augment quests unlock after a quest called Augments. Each one asks you to get its augment, and the quest text explains what it does:[3]

The Rainbow Furnace

The endgame branch starts with "Rainbow Plating" quest, which asks for the Rainbow Plating. The quest text says it needs every furnace before Netherite, including Copper, Silver and Crystal. "Rainbow Core" quest asks for the Rainbow Core and unlocks after the Netherite Furnace. Once you have both, "Rainbow Furnace" quest asks for the Rainbow Furnace, which smelts a whole stack per operation at 20 ticks.[3]

Two quests follow. "Rainbow Coal" quest asks for Rainbow Coal, which the quest text says you get by blowing up the Rainbow Furnace. "Rainbow Generator" quest is a generator-boost quest. Rainbow Furnaces with Augment: Generator get a boost when the other nine furnaces around them are also making energy, adding 2kFE a tick according to the quest.[3]

The ATM Star

This chapter has two Iron Furnaces quests, and both unlock after the New Beginning quest "Iron Furnaces" quest. "2 Rainbow Furnaces" quest asks for the Rainbow Furnace and notes you'll need 2 of them for the Improbable Probability Device. "Rainbow Coal" quest asks for Rainbow Coal again.[4][5]

Which Iron Furnaces config options matter?

5 parts

Here's the good news first: every option in the Iron Furnaces config that shows a mod default is set to exactly that default in this pack. Nothing below was changed by the pack, so you get plain Iron Furnaces behavior. Everything lives in config/ironfurnaces-common.toml.[8]

Smelting speed

Each furnace has a speed option, which is the number of ticks one smelting operation takes. A regular furnace takes 200 ticks, so lower is faster. The range for the standard furnaces is 2 to 72,000.[8]

Modded-metal furnaces

The Allthemodium, Vibranium and Unobtainium furnaces have their own section, and they add a mult option: how many items can be smelted at once. A regular furnace smelts only 1. All three are tier 2, and their speed range starts at 1 tick.[8]

Power generation

Every standard furnace also has a generation option, described as how much RF it generates per tick. Here is each one.[8]

The Rainbow Furnace has an extra option, furnaces.rainbow_furnace.rainbow_generation, set to 50,000. The config describes it as how much power the Rainbow Furnace will generate.[8]

Tiers and energy storage

Energy storage depends on the furnace tier, which runs from 0 to 2. Tier 0 stores 80,000 (furnaces.energy.tier_0), tier 1 stores 200,000 (furnaces.energy.tier_1) and tier 2 stores 1,000,000 (furnaces.energy.tier_2).[8]

Tier assignments are: Copper and Iron at tier 0; Silver and Gold at tier 1; Diamond, Emerald, Crystal, Obsidian, Netherite and the million furnace at tier 2. Check furnaces.silver_furnace.tier and furnaces.million_furnace.tier if you want to see them.[8]

Stored recipe XP and lighting

furnaces.recipeMaxXPLevel.level is set to 100 levels. That's how much experience a recipe stored in the furnace can hold, and anything past it is voided. The config notes that 100 levels is 30971 XP.[8]

misc.misc.lightupdates is set to true. The config's own comment says true means light updates are disabled, so furnaces no longer emit light. The config file shows no mod default for this option.[8]
