What is RFTools Base?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
RFTools Base is the base mod for McJty's tech mods. It is the shared foundation for the RFTools family and for XNet. This pack ships version 1.21-6.0.11, and the mod depends on McJtyLib.[1][2][3]
What it adds
- Dimensional Shard ore generation: a small amount in the overworld and more in other dimensions.[1]
- The machine infuser.[1]
- Base crafting materials for the other tech mods, such as RFTools Power and XNet.[1]
- The smart wrench.[1]
- A security and owner system.[1]
Materials you'll meet early
Dimensional Shard Ore is found underground in small clusters. Fortune affects it, and it drops Dimensional Shards. Those shards go into several of the more complicated recipes, and you can also use them to infuse machines.[4]
Machine Frames are the housing for machines and devices. They do nothing on their own, but they are a ubiquitous crafting ingredient.[5]
Machine Bases are another crafting material. The machines made from them are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output. They are handy for cramped spaces and walls.[6]
How do you get started with RFTools Base?
5 parts
RFTools Base is the base mod for all the RFTools mods, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. On its own it gives you crafting materials, the Machine Infuser, the Smart Wrench and a few helper items. Here is what to make first, in order, so the other RFTools mods are easier to get into.[1][7]
Step one: the Technology Guide
Start with the Technology Guide. Its recipe is the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[8]

Step two: the Machine Base
The Machine Base does nothing on its own, but many recipes use it as the base for other blocks. Machines built from it are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output. The pack changes this recipe from the mod's version, so use the one below.[8][9]

Its sibling, the Machine Frame, is the housing for full-size machines. It also does nothing alone, but it is a ubiquitous crafting ingredient.[10]
Step three: the Smart Wrench
Craft the Smart Wrench early. Machines made from a Machine Base choose their facing from where your cursor is on the block, and if you don't like it you can right-click with the wrench in Wrench Mode to turn it.[8][9]

Step four: Dimensional Shards and the Machine Infuser
Dimensional Shard Ore is found underground in small clusters in various dimensions, and Fortune affects it. The shards go into several more complicated recipes and can also be used to infuse machines.[11]
The Machine Infuser is where infusing happens. It uses Dimensional Shards to improve the efficiency of many machines, and for most things infusing reduces their power requirements. Infusing the Infuser itself makes it use less power. The pack changes this recipe from the mod's version.[8][12]

The pack also changes the recipes for the Infused Diamond and the Infused Enderpearl, so check these recipes when another recipe asks for them.[8]

Step five: monitoring and extras
The Information Screen is a small screen you put next to a machine to show information about it. By default it shows energy information, and using a wrench on it toggles the display mode if the attached machine supports that.[8][13]

The Tablet (empty) is the empty tablet. A Screen Link placed in a Tablet opens the linked screen remotely, as long as that screen's chunk is loaded, and sneak-use opens the tablet interface. The pack changes the Tablet recipe from the mod's version.[8][14]

Modules are items you insert into machines that support them, usually by right-clicking the machine with the module. The Filter Module is one example, and the Crafter supports it.[8][15][16]

How does RFTools Base work?
4 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation for the rest of the McJty tech mods. It brings Dimensional Shard worldgen, the machine infuser, base crafting materials, the smart wrench and a security and owner system. Most of its mechanics are about how other machines are built, placed, upgraded and configured, so this section covers those shared systems.[1]
Machine Frames and Machine Bases
Machine Frame is the housing for machines and devices. It does nothing on its own, but it shows up everywhere as a crafting ingredient.[10]
Machine Base is similar, but the machines made from it are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output. The base itself does nothing alone and is used as the starting point for other blocks.[9]
When you place one of these machines, its facing depends on which edge of the target block your cursor is closest to. Imagine an X on the face you are placing against and look at which quarter of the X your cursor is in. The output faces that direction and the input comes from the opposite side. This makes them handy in cramped spaces or on walls. If you don't like the direction, right-click with the wrench in Wrench Mode to change it.[9]
The pack changed the Machine Base recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default.[8]

The Machine Infuser
The Machine Infuser uses Dimensional Shards to make other machines more efficient. For most machines, infusing reduces their power requirements, and some get extra benefits. Infusing the infuser itself makes it use less power. Dimensional Shards come from Dimensional Shard Ore, which is found underground in small clusters and is affected by Fortune.[11][12]

This recipe is changed by the pack.
The pack's server config for the infuser is below. These values currently match the mod defaults.[17]
- infuser.maxInfuse is 256, the maximum number of dimensional shards before a machine is fully infused.[17]
- infuser.infuserMaxRF is 60,000, the maximum RF the infuser can store.[17]
- infuser.infuserRFPerTick is 600, the RF per tick the infuser can receive.[17]
- infuser.usePerTick is 600, the RF used per tick while infusing.[17]
The Technology Guide lists what infusing improves in other RFTools mods. Here are some of the machines it names:[12]
- Crafter, Dialing Device, Matter Receiver and Environmental Controller: infusing is listed for these RFTools Utility machines. The Crafter, Dialing Device and Matter Receiver pages say it reduces power usage.[12][16][18][19]
- Matter Transmitter: reduced power consumption and increased teleportation speed.[20]
- Screen Controller: increased scan range.[21]
- Matter Beamer: more items per pulse and a lower FE cost.[22]
- Dimensional Cell: a lower cost for extracting RF over long distances, and a boost to the RF per tick it can input or output.[12][23]
Modules, filters and cards
Many RFTools machines accept modules, which are items inserted to modify the machine or add functionality. In most cases you can just right-click the machine with the module.[15]
The Filter Module whitelists or blacklists items for the machine. It supports blocks, items and tags, and you can require matching on NBT and damage. Sneak-right-click an inventory such as a chest to add everything in it, or sneak-right-click a block in the world to add that block. In the module's GUI you can also add tags or convert a block or item to its tags. The Builder, Modular Storage and Crafter are among the machines that support it.[24]

The Crafting Card holds a recipe. It works for regular 3x3 recipes and for more complex shapes, and various machines can use it. The stored recipe doesn't have to be valid, so the card can also act as a general list of inputs and an output.[25]

Tools for configuring and monitoring
The Smart Wrench works as a normal wrench: sneak-right-click to pick a block up and right-click to rotate it. Right-click in the air to change modes. In Select Mode it performs specialized operations on blocks such as the Shield Projector.[26]

The Information Screen is a small screen you put next to a machine. By default it shows energy information, and it can display power information about any block that supports RF/FE. Some machines offer extra display modes, which you toggle by using a wrench on the screen.[13][27]

The Tablet (empty) gives you remote access to machines. Sneak-right-click to open its internal GUI, where you can install up to 6 modules. A normal right-click opens the GUI of the current module. The remote machine must be near enough or chunkloaded. If it is properly chunkloaded, the tablet also works from another dimension. The pack changed the tablet recipe.[8][28]

How do you progress through RFTools Base?
4 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation mod for the whole RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. On its own it is mostly crafting materials, tools and a few utility items, so this section follows the crafting order you'll naturally hit rather than a list of quest steps.[7][8]
Unverified No quests for this mod were available to confirm, so I can't give you a quest-guided path. The order below comes from the in-pack recipes and the in-game guide only. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Tier 1: Starter tools
The Technology Guide (the Technology Guide) and the Smart Wrench use the mod's own recipes, unchanged by the pack. Make both first. The Smart Wrench is what you use to rotate and configure the tech machines.[8][29]

The Crafting Card and Filter Module also keep their mod recipes. Modules like the filter go straight into machines that support them; right-click the machine with the module to insert it. The Crafter, for example, supports the Filter Module.[8][15][16]

Tier 2: Machine Bases and screens
The pack changed the Machine Base recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. The Machine Base does nothing on its own, but many recipes use it. Machines built from it are a quarter of a block high and usually have a redstone input or output, which makes them handy on walls and in cramped spaces.[8][9]

The Information Screen builds on the Machine Base and keeps the mod's recipe. The Machine Frame is the other basic housing. It does nothing by itself but is a very common crafting ingredient.[8][10]

Tier 3: Infusing and Dimensional Shards
This is where the pack gates progress. Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions, and Fortune works on it. Shards go into several of the more complicated recipes and can also be used to infuse machines. Infusing the Crafter or the Dialing Device reduces their power usage.[11][16][18]
The pack changed the recipes for the Infused Diamond, the Infused Enderpearl and the Machine Infuser, and they all pull in Dimensional Shards. Get some shard mining done before you aim for these.[8][11]

Tier 4: The Tablet
The empty Tablet (empty) also has a pack-changed recipe. It's a good late goal for this mod, because a Redstone Information item stored in a Tablet lets you examine and change redstone signals from anywhere.[8][30]

How does RFTools Base work with other mods?
5 parts
RFTools Base is mostly a crafting-material mod, so its links to the rest of the pack show up in recipes. The pack adds some new recipes and changes some of the originals. Everything below comes from the pack's recipe data.[8]
Pack-changed basics: Dimensional Shard Gem
The pack changed the recipes for Infused Diamond, Infused Enderpearl and Machine Infuser so they use the Dimensional Shard Gem from the FTB materials. Don't assume the standard RFTools Base recipes, because these are not the mod defaults.[8]

World Engine recipes
Several pack-added World Engine recipes take RFTools Base items as inputs. The recipe data I have doesn't show what they output, so check the recipe viewer in game. The Machine Frame turns up together with parts from other mods: Annihilation Core and Formation Core for the Matter Receiver and Matter Transmitter, and Calculation Processor for the XNet Controller. The Builder one uses the Diamond Stick and the Aerial Pearl. The Machine Frame has its own entry with Invar Plate.[8]

The Infused Enderpearl is also used well beyond RFTools. It is an input in World Engine recipes alongside the Godforged Pearl and Red Matter, alongside the Deep Dark Catalyst, and alongside an Block with Oritech's Duratium Ingot and Energite Ingot. The pack also added an Avaritia compressor recipe that turns it into a singularity.[8]

XNet
The Redstone Proxy, Router and Wireless Router all use the Machine Frame in their recipes. These are unchanged mod recipes, so XNet depends on RFTools Base for its crafting.[8]
Which RFTools Base config options matter?
1 part
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
RFTools Base only has a handful of options that matter, and they all belong to the infuser. They live in infuser.infuserMaxRF's file, config/rftoolsbase-server.toml. The good news: this pack leaves every one of them at the mod default, so nothing has been changed here.[31]
Infuser settings in this pack
- infuser.infuserMaxRF is 60,000. This is the maximum RF the infuser can store. It matches the mod default.[31]
- infuser.infuserRFPerTick is 600. This is how much RF per tick the infuser can receive. It matches the mod default.[31]
- infuser.usePerTick is 600. This is the RF used per tick while infusing. It matches the mod default.[31]
- infuser.maxInfuse is 256. This is the maximum number of dimensional shards before a machine is fully infused. It matches the mod default.[31]
Because the infuser receives 600 RF per tick and uses 600 RF per tick, a feed of 600 RF per tick is enough to keep it running while it infuses. Its 60,000 RF buffer is the most it can hold.[31]
What changed in RFTools Base between versions?
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 includes RFTools Base 1.21-6.0.11. The pack's mod list says it was first included in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier.[32]
The one change recorded in the mod's own changelog for this version, 1.21-6.0.11, is that the Patchouli manual documentation was updated and expanded. If you want to read up on the mod in game, that manual is the place to look.[33]
