What is RFTools Base?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
RFTools Base is the base mod for McJty's tech mods. It is the shared foundation for the RFTools family and for XNet. This pack ships version 1.21-6.0.11, and the mod depends on McJtyLib.[1][2][3]
What it adds
- Dimensional Shard ore generation: a small amount in the overworld and more in other dimensions.[1]
- The machine infuser.[1]
- Base crafting materials for the other tech mods, such as RFTools Power and XNet.[1]
- The smart wrench.[1]
- A security and owner system.[1]
Materials you'll meet early
Dimensional Shard Ore is found underground in small clusters. Fortune affects it, and it drops Dimensional Shards. Those shards go into several of the more complicated recipes, and you can also use them to infuse machines.[4]
Machine Frames are the housing for machines and devices. They do nothing on their own, but they are a ubiquitous crafting ingredient.[5]
Machine Bases are another crafting material. The machines made from them are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output. They are handy for cramped spaces and walls.[6]
How do you get started with RFTools Base?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
RFTools Base is the base mod for the whole RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. Its features are Dimensional Shard oregen, the Machine Infuser, base crafting materials for the other tech mods, the Smart Wrench, and a security and owner system. Here is the order I would go in.[1][3]
Technology Guide and Smart Wrench
Start with the Technology Guide. Its recipe is the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[7]

Next, make the Smart Wrench. You will use it on machines, for example to turn a Machine Base machine that is facing the wrong way. This recipe is also the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[1][6][7]

Machine Frame and Machine Base
Every machine or device needs some sort of housing. The Machine Frame does nothing on its own, but it is a ubiquitous crafting ingredient. The pack changes this recipe, so go by the one below and not what you remember from the mod.[5][7]

The Machine Base is the second building block. It also does nothing alone, but machines made from it are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone output or input. The pack changes this recipe too.[6][7]

Get Dimensional Shards
Dimensional Shard are used in several of the more complicated recipes, and they can also be used to infuse machines. Dimensional Shard Ore is found underground in small clusters in various dimensions, and Fortune affects its drops. The oregen gives a small amount in the Overworld and more in other dimensions.[1][4]
The pack also gives you a crafted route, and it changes the mod's recipe, so use this one.[7]

Recipe id: rftoolsbase:dimensionalshard
The pack also has a changed Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that outputs a Dimensional Shard. The recipe dump lists no item inputs for it, so I can't tell you what it needs.[7]
Machine Infuser
The Machine Infuser uses Dimensional Shards to improve the efficiency of a lot of machines. For most things, infusing reduces their power requirements, and infusing the Infuser itself makes it use less power. Some machines get extra benefits, like a larger scan range on the Screen Controller. The pack changes its recipe.[7][8][9]

Information Screen
Once you have machines running, the Information Screen is a small screen you put next to a machine to show information about it. By default it shows energy information, and it can display power information about any block that supports RF/FE. Using a wrench on it toggles the display mode, if the attached machine supports that. The pack changes this recipe.[7][10][11]

How does RFTools Base work?
5 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation of the RFTools family: it is the base mod for the other RFTools mods, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. It has very few machines of its own. What it gives you is the shared toolbox: crafting housings, the Machine Infuser, the Smart Wrench, filters, cards and the Tablet. Here is how they work.[1][12]
Machine Frames and Machine Bases
A Machine Frame is the housing every machine or device needs. It does nothing on its own and is used as a crafting ingredient all over the family.[13]
The Machine Base is the same idea, but the machines made from it are a quarter of a block high and usually have some kind of redstone input or output. It also does nothing on its own.[14]
When you place one of these machines, the edge of the block your cursor is closest to decides the facing. Imagine an X on the face you are placing against and look at which quarter you are aiming at. The output faces that way and the input comes from the opposite side. That makes them handy in cramped spaces and on walls. If you get the direction wrong, right-click it with the wrench in Wrench Mode to turn it.[14]
The pack has changed the recipes for both of these.[15]

Dimensional Shards and the Machine Infuser
Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions. Fortune affects it, and it drops Dimensional Shard. Shards go into several of the more complicated recipes, and you can also use them to infuse machines.[16]
This pack adds shards to its own mining dimension through a script. The ore is placed in veins of size 12, with a count of 2, between heights -63 and 250. The script replaces stone with the Overworld shard ore, end stone with the End version and netherrack with the Nether version. It does not replace deepslate.[17]
You can also craft shards. The pack changed the crafting recipe, and it also has a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that produces a shard.[15]

The Machine Infuser is where shards get used. It improves most other RFTools machines in various ways, and it needs Dimensional Shards to do so. For most machines, infusing reduces their power requirements, and some get extra benefits. The infuser's own tooltip sums it up as reduced power consumption.[18][19]
The guide lists which machines benefit, grouped by mod. Examples are more range on the Screen Controller, more speed on the Matter Transmitter, and a lower power cost on the Crafter. Those machines come from the other RFTools mods, so you only see them if those mods are installed.[18][20]
The pack changed the Machine Infuser recipe.[15]

Smart Wrench
The Smart Wrench works as a normal wrench: sneak and right-click to pick up a tech block, and right-click to rotate it. Right-click in the air to change its mode. In Select Mode it can do specialised jobs on blocks like the Shield Projector, such as sneak-right-clicking to pick a master block and right-clicking to associate other blocks with it.[19][21]
The wrench shows up in other mechanics too. It turns Machine Base devices, as above, and it toggles the display mode of an Information Screen.[14][22]

Modules, filters and cards
Many machines in the RFTools tech mods accept modules. These are items you insert to modify the machine or add functions. In most cases you can just right-click the machine with the module to insert it.[23]
The Filter Module is the most widely used one. It whitelists or blacklists items for a machine, and the Builder, Modular Storage and Crafter all support it. It handles blocks, items and tags, and you can also require matching on NBT and damage.[24]
- Sneak-right-click an inventory such as a chest to add everything in it to the filter.[24]
- Sneak-right-click a block in the world to add that block.[24]
- In the filter's GUI you can add tags, or convert a block or item into its matching tags.[24]
The Crafting Card holds a recipe. It works for normal 3x3 recipes and for more complex shapes, and various machines can use it. The stored recipe does not have to be valid, so the card can also serve as a general way to represent inputs and an output.[25]
The pack changed both recipes.[15]

Tablet and Information Screen
The Tablet (empty) gives you remote access to various machines. Sneak-right-click it to open the internal tablet GUI, where you can install up to 6 modules. A normal right-click opens the GUI of the current module, and you can cycle between installed modules with the previous and next destination keys. The remote machine has to be near enough or chunkloaded. If it is properly chunkloaded, the tablet also works from another dimension.[26]
The Information Screen is a small screen you put next to a machine. By default it shows energy information. Some machines, like the PowerCells from RFTools Power, offer extra views, and you toggle the display mode by using a wrench on the screen.[22]
The pack changed both recipes.[15]

How do you progress through RFTools Base?
4 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation of the RFTools family, so its progression is really about the crafting parts the other mods build on. In this pack the path runs from housing and basics, to Dimensional Shards, then to infused items and the Machine Infuser. Most recipes here have been changed by the pack, so don't trust your memory of the mod defaults.[12][15]
Tier 1: housing and basics
Start with the housings. Machine Frame does nothing on its own but is a ubiquitous crafting ingredient. Machine Base is similar, but it makes machines a quarter of a block high, usually with redstone input or output. The pack changed both recipes.[13][14][15]

The Technology Guide and the Smart Wrench still use the mod's own recipes. The pack did change the recipes for the Crafting Card, the Filter Module and the Information Screen. The Crafter supports the Filter Module.[15][20]

Tier 2: Dimensional Shards
The Dimensional Shard is the gate to everything after this. The in-game guide says Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions, and that Fortune affects its drops. The shards go into several more complicated recipes and can also infuse machines.[16]
This pack also gives you crafted routes. It changed the shaped crafting recipe below. It also has a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that outputs a Dimensional Shard, but the recipe dump doesn't show that recipe's inputs.[15]

Tier 3: infused items and the Machine Infuser
Shards turn into the infused materials. Infused Diamond uses the pack's changed recipe. Infused Enderpearl uses the mod's own recipe.[15]

The Machine Infuser also needs a Dimensional Shard and a Machine Frame in the pack's recipe. Infusing a machine is a real upgrade. For example, infusing the Crafter reduces its power usage.[15][16][20]

Where these parts lead
The pack's own script shows why these parts matter. It removes the Builder recipe and replaces it with a custom one that still builds on a Machine Frame. It also rewrites several RFTools Utility module recipes, and the Flight, Peaceful and Water Breathing modules use Infused Enderpearls.[28]
How does RFTools Base work with other mods?
4 parts
On its own, RFTools Base doesn't do much. It supplies crafting parts for the rest of the RFTools family and XNet, and the connections with other mods come from the recipes that use those parts. The Machine Frame is a crafting ingredient that does nothing by itself, and the Machine Base is its flatter cousin for machines with redstone input or output.[12][13][14]
RFTools Builder, Power, Storage, Utility and XNet
In this pack the Machine Frame is an ingredient in many recipes from the other RFTools mods and XNet. Examples are the Mover, the Coal Generator, the Modular Storage, the Crafter Tier 1 and XNet's Controller. Most of these also need vanilla items, like redstone torches, comparators and rails, so you'll be gathering from several places.[13][15]
The low-profile redstone machines are built on the Machine Base. These include the Analog, Counter, Logic, Sensor, Power Monitor and Redstone Transmitter. The pack changed the recipes of all of those, so trust the recipe shown here rather than what you remember from the mod's defaults.[14][15]

Dimensional Shards and vanilla upgrades
Dimensional Shard drops from Dimensional Shard Ore, found underground, and is used in several of the more complicated recipes. In this pack the Blazing Infuser, the Module Template, Power Core (Medium) and Power Core (High) all use it, and the last two have recipes changed by the pack. The shield and quarry upgrades below pair shards with vanilla items.[15][16]

Infused items and modules
Infused Diamond and Infused Enderpearl turn a Module Template into a ModulePlus Template. The "plus" modules, like Regeneration+ Module and Speed+ Module, then take that template, the matching basic module and a vanilla item such as a golden apple or a powered rail.[15]

Some modules skip the basic module step. The Flight Module recipe is a KubeJS recipe that the pack changed, so don't expect the mod's own version.[15]

Recipes the pack added or reshaped
The Builder has a recipe added by the pack through a KubeJS script, and it pulls in an item from outside the RFTools family.[15]

There is also a link to Productive Bees. A bee conversion recipe, changed by the pack, takes an Infused Diamond as its input and lists a dimensional shard from that mod as its result.[15]

What changed in RFTools Base between versions?
All the Mons 1.3.0 ships RFTools Base version 1.21-6.0.11. The mod was first included in All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier.[29]
The one change recorded in the mod's own changelog for this version is an update and expansion of the Patchouli manual documentation. If you want to read up on the mod in-game, the manual is the place to look.[30]
Unverified The sources here show no pack changelog entries for this mod, so what changed for it between individual pack releases is not confirmed.
