What is RFTools Utility?
1 part
RFTools Utility is the 1.14+ version of the original RFTools, a collection of general-purpose tools and utilities that don't fit a more specific category. This pack ships version 1.21-7.0.12.[1][2]
The project page lists these features:[1]
- Automatic crafter[1]
- Environmental controller[1]
- Logic blocks[1]
- Information screens[1]
- Spawner system[1]
- Multitank[1]
- Teleportation system[1]
The mod is meant to be used together with RFTools Power, and it depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib.[1]
Where it shows up in the quest book
In the "power" chapter, quest a quest in "Power" has the Sequencer as one of its tasks. The other tasks in that quest are RFTools Power items: the Endergenic, the Pearl Injector and the Ender Monitor.[3]
In the "useful_items_tips" chapter, quest "Wireless Redstone" quest lists the Create Redstone Link as a task, alongside either the Redstone Receiver or the Redstone Transmitter.[4]
How do you get started with RFTools Utility?
5 parts
RFTools Utility is a grab-bag of general-purpose machines. It covers an automatic crafter, an environmental controller, logic blocks, information screens, a spawner system, a multitank and a teleportation system. It depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib, and it's meant to be used alongside RFTools Power. Here's a sensible first-steps order, based on what this pack's quest book actually asks of you.[1]
Start with a Screen and your first module
Begin with the Screen, the block behind the mod's information screens. It's the quickest way to get a feel for how the mod works.[1][5]

Wireless redstone
The quest "Wireless Redstone" quest in the useful_items_tips chapter asks for Create's Redstone Link in one task. Another task accepts either the Redstone Receiver or the Redstone Transmitter, so you only need one of the pair for that task.[4]

The Sequencer
The Sequencer is one of the tasks in quest a quest in "Power" in the power chapter. That quest also asks for the Endergenic, the Pearl Injector and the Ender Monitor from RFTools Power. Making the Sequencer early means it's ready when you reach that quest.[3]

Automatic crafting
When you want to automate crafting, the Crafter Tier 1 is where it starts. The Crafter Tier 2 and Crafter Tier 3 are the higher tiers, and their in-pack recipes are shown below.[1][5]

How does RFTools Utility work?
7 parts
RFTools Utility is a grab bag of general machines. The project page lists an automatic crafter, the environmental controller, logic blocks, information screens, a spawner system, a multitank and a teleportation system. Everything runs on RF, and the pack's server config sets how much each part stores, accepts and burns.[1]
Automatic crafter
The crafter comes in three tiers. Tier 1 (Crafter Tier 1) handles up to 2 recipes at once, Tier 2 handles up to 4 and Tier 3 handles up to 8. In all tiers a recipe can use the crafting results of the previous steps, so you can chain intermediate items inside one machine. Infusing it gives a bonus of reduced power consumption.[6]

In this pack the crafter's numbers are the mod defaults. It stores up to 50,000 RF (crafter.crafterMaxRF) and accepts 500 RF per tick (crafter.crafterRFPerTick). Each crafting operation costs 100 RF (crafter.rfPerOperation). In fast mode it does 5 operations at once (crafter.speedOperations).[7]
Environmental controller
The Environmental Controller applies various effects to a large area. The effects come from modules you put into it, such as the Flight Module, which gives creative-type flying. Infusing it reduces its power consumption.[6]
The pack adds its own crafting recipe for the controller, so use this one.[5][8]

The controller stores up to 500,000 RF (environmental.environmentalMaxRF) and accepts 20,000 RF per tick (environmental.environmentalRFPerTick). An active controller always uses at least 5 RF per tick (environmental.environmentalMinRFUsage). On top of that, each module has a cost per tick per block of area. For example the flight module costs 0.004 (environmental.flightRFPerTick), the feather falling module 0.001 (environmental.featherfallingRFPerTick) and the glowing module 0.001 (environmental.glowingRFPerTick). When the controller is used on mobs, the power usage is multiplied by 2 (environmental.mobsPowerMultiplier).[7]
The Featherfalling Module halves fall damage, and its Plus version (Featherfalling+ Module) reduces it to zero. The Plus version costs 0.003 per tick per block (environmental.featherfallingPlusRFPerTick).[6][7]
Modules are crafted with the Syringe and a template. The pack has 11 recipes of this syringe type. The basic Module Template recipe is changed by the pack.[5]

Screens and modules
The Screen is modular, so on its own it shows nothing. You insert modules to choose what it displays. The creative screen is the same but needs no power.[6]

Screen modules cost RF per tick per block, and the pack keeps the mod defaults. The button module costs 9 (screen.buttonRFPerTick), the clock module 1 (screen.clockRFPerTick) and the dimension module 6 (screen.dimensionRFPerTick). The text module costs 0 (screen.textRFPerTick).[7]
The computer, counter, energy, fluid, itemstack, machine information and redstone modules cost 4 each, set in screen.computerRFPerTick, screen.counterRFPerTick, screen.energyRFPerTick, screen.fluidRFPerTick, screen.itemstackRFPerTick, screen.machineInfoRFPerTick and screen.redstoneRFPerTick.[7]
The screen controller stores up to 60,000 RF (screen.screenControllerMaxRF) and accepts 1,000 RF per tick (screen.screenControllerRFPerTick). The refresh timing is 500 (screen.screenRefreshTiming). Higher numbers make screens less accurate but easier on network bandwidth.[7]
Many modules need a target, which you set by sneak right-clicking. The energy module targets a machine, the fluid module targets a tank and the counter modules target a counter. The Button Screen Module works with redstone receivers. Sneak right-click a receiver to create a channel for the button and set it on the receiver. You can also use it on a transmitter or an already set receiver to copy the channel to the button.[6]
Logic blocks
The Counter counts redstone pulses up to a specified maximum. When it reaches the maximum, it sends out a pulse of its own. The Counter Screen Module shows the count on a screen. The Analog does simple calculations on an input redstone signal based on two side inputs. The Digit block shows the strength of an input redstone signal.[6]

Teleportation
The dialing device dials any nearby matter transmitter to any matter receiver, and dialing needs power. If a Destination Analyzer is adjacent to the dialing device, you can also check whether the destination has enough power to be safe. The dialer looks for transmitters within 10 blocks horizontally (teleporter.horizontalDialerRange) and 5 vertically (teleporter.verticalDialerRange).[6][7]
- Dialing a transmitter to a receiver costs 1,000 RF (teleporter.rfPerDial). The dialing device's 'Check' button, which checks a receiver's capabilities, costs 5,000 RF (teleporter.rfPerCheck).[7]
- Starting a local teleport costs 5,000 RF (teleporter.rfStartTeleportLocal), plus 10 RF per unit of distance (teleporter.rfStartTeleportDist). Going to another dimension costs 100,000 RF (teleporter.rfStartTeleportDim) instead.[7]
- While the teleport runs, the transmitter uses 500 RF per tick (teleporter.rfTeleportPerTick). The receiving side uses 5,000 RF per teleport (teleporter.rfPerTeleportReceiver), but only when the teleport actually happens.[7]
- The transmitter stores up to 200,000 RF (teleporter.transmitterMaxRF) and accepts 1,000 RF per tick (teleporter.transmitterRFPerTick). The receiver stores up to 100,000 RF (teleporter.receiverMaxRF) and accepts 500 RF per tick (teleporter.receiverRFPerTick). The dialing device stores up to 50,000 RF (teleporter.dialerMaxRF) and accepts 100 RF per tick (teleporter.dialerRFPerTick).[7]
In this pack the lists of blacklisted teleport source and destination dimensions (teleporter.blacklistedTeleportationSources, teleporter.blacklistedTeleportationDestinations) are empty.[7]
Charged porters
The Charged Porter is a portable option. Sneak right-click a matter receiver to set the destination, then right click to teleport. It holds up to 200,000 RF (teleporter.chargedPorterMaxRF) and accepts 2,000 RF per tick (teleporter.chargedPorterRFPerTick). Teleporting this way uses 50% more RF than a matter transmitter does.[6][7]

Tank and spawner
The tank holds up to 32,000 mb (tank.maxCapacity), which is the mod default. For the spawner system, the config sets that a full mob extraction needs at most 10 injections (spawner.maxMobInjections).[7]
How do you progress through RFTools Utility?
4 parts
RFTools Utility doesn't have one long linear tech tree in this pack. Progression here is a ladder of crafting complexity: simple redstone gadgets built on a machine base, heavier machines built on a machine frame, and then upgrade chains for crafters, screen modules and the syringe-based modules. The pack's quest book only touches the mod in a couple of places, so most of the order below comes from the in-pack recipes.[3][4][5]
First: redstone gadgets
Start with the machine-base items. The Sequencer, Timer, Logic, Analog, Wire and Sensor all use a machine base as their core.[5]
The quest book places the mod in a couple of places. a quest in "Power" sits in the power chapter, and its tasks are the Endergenic, Pearl Injector and Ender Monitor from RFTools Power, plus the Sequencer. "Wireless Redstone" quest sits in the useful items tips chapter, and asks for Create's Redstone Link alongside either the Redstone Receiver or the Redstone Transmitter.[3][4]
The pack changed the Counter recipe, so don't rely on default RFTools knowledge for it. Here is the in-pack version:[5]

Next: machine-frame blocks
The next step up uses a machine frame instead of a machine base. That covers the Tank, Spawner, Matter Booster, Matter Beamer, Dialing Device, Destination Analyzer and Screen Controller.[5]
The Crafter is the clearest tiered machine. You get Crafter Tier 1 first, then Crafter Tier 2, and then Crafter Tier 3. The in-pack recipes are below.[5]

Then: screens and their modules
Build a Screen and then add modules. The basic modules are the Button Screen Module, Clock Screen Module, Counter Screen Module, Energy Screen Module, Fluid Screen Module, Inventory Screen Module, Machine Information Screen Module, Redstone Screen Module and Text Screen Module. The ModulePlus Template is the step above the Module Template and unlocks the stronger modules. The Flight Module, Peaceful Module, Waterbreathing Module, Noteleport Module and Blindness Module build on it directly. The Haste+ Module, Regeneration+ Module, Featherfalling+ Module, Saturation+ Module and Speed+ Module are the Plus upgrades of the matching basic modules.[5]

How does RFTools Utility work with other mods?
3 parts
RFTools Utility depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib, and it is meant to be played alongside RFTools Power. Most of its machines are crafted from an RFTools Base Machine Base or Machine Frame. The links to other mods in this pack come from a handful of pack-specific recipes and a couple of quests.[1][5]
Recipes the pack added
The Environmental Controller has a recipe added by the pack through a KubeJS script. It combines RFTools parts with ingot and plate material tags, so some of the ingredients come from outside RFTools.[5]

The pack also added Custom Machinery recipes in a "world_engine" group that bring RFTools Utility items together with Create, Mekanism, Industrial Foregoing and AE2 parts. The Screen goes into the Enderic Infuser recipe along with Create cogwheels, a Mekanism control circuit and an Industrial Foregoing machine frame.[5]

Quests that connect mods
- Quest "Wireless Redstone" quest in the "useful_items_tips" chapter asks for Create's Redstone Link, plus either the Redstone Receiver or the Redstone Transmitter.[4]
- Quest a quest in "Power" in the "power" chapter lists the Endergenic, Pearl Injector and Ender Monitor from RFTools Power together with the Sequencer.[3]
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use RFTools Utility?
2 parts
RFTools Utility shows up in the pack's quest book as a side requirement inside other chapters, not as a chapter of its own. Here is where you will run into it.[3][4]
The "power" chapter
In the power chapter, quest a quest in "Power" asks for a group of item tasks: the Endergenic, the Pearl Injector and the Ender Monitor from RFTools Power, plus the Sequencer. The Sequencer is the only task here that comes from RFTools Utility.[3]
The "useful_items_tips" chapter
In the useful_items_tips chapter, quest "Wireless Redstone" quest asks for the Redstone Link from Create. Its other task accepts either the Redstone Receiver or the Redstone Transmitter, so you only need one of those to cover it.[4]
Which RFTools Utility config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Good news first: in this pack, every RFTools Utility option that reports a mod default is still set to that default. So the numbers below are the mod's own values, not pack changes. Here are the ones you're most likely to care about.[9][10]
Teleportation costs
The teleporter is where most players run into power problems. A local teleport costs teleporter.rfStartTeleportLocal = 5,000 RF to start, plus teleporter.rfStartTeleportDist = 10 RF for every unit of distance. Going to another dimension costs teleporter.rfStartTeleportDim = 100,000 RF, and the distance value isn't used in that case.[10]
- teleporter.rfTeleportPerTick is 500 RF per tick while the teleport is in progress, and the receiving side spends teleporter.rfPerTeleportReceiver = 5,000 RF per teleport.[10]
- The matter transmitter stores up to teleporter.transmitterMaxRF = 200,000 RF and accepts teleporter.transmitterRFPerTick = 1,000 RF per tick. The matter receiver holds teleporter.receiverMaxRF = 100,000 RF.[10]
- Base teleport time is teleporter.timeTeleportBaseLocal = 5 for local trips and teleporter.timeTeleportBaseDim = 50 for other dimensions.[10]
- The dialing device checks for transmitters within teleporter.horizontalDialerRange = 10 horizontally and teleporter.verticalDialerRange = 5 vertically. Dialing costs teleporter.rfPerDial = 1,000 RF, and the Check button costs teleporter.rfPerCheck = 5,000 RF.[10]
- The charged porter holds teleporter.chargedPorterMaxRF = 200,000 RF. The advanced version holds teleporter.advancedChargedPorterMaxRF = 1,000,000 RF, with a speed bonus of teleporter.advancedSpeedBonus = 4. The config notes that teleporting this way uses 50% more RF than a matter transmitter.[10]
The teleport blacklists (teleporter.blacklistedTeleportationSources and teleporter.blacklistedTeleportationDestinations) are empty, so no dimension is blocked. Usage logging (teleporter.logTeleportUsages) is off, and the 'whoosh' message (teleporter.whooshMessage) is on.[10]
Environmental controller
The controller stores up to environmental.environmentalMaxRF = 500,000 RF and accepts environmental.environmentalRFPerTick = 20,000 RF per tick. An active controller always uses at least environmental.environmentalMinRFUsage = 5 RF per tick. When it's used on mobs, power usage is multiplied by environmental.mobsPowerMultiplier = 2.[10]
The harmful modules are switched off for players: environmental.poisonAvailable, environmental.blindnessAvailable, environmental.slownessAvailable and environmental.weaknessAvailable are all false. For comparison, the flight module costs environmental.flightRFPerTick = 0.004 RF per tick per block.[10]
Crafter, screens, tank and spawner
- The automatic crafter holds crafter.crafterMaxRF = 50,000 RF and accepts crafter.crafterRFPerTick = 500 RF per tick. Each crafting operation uses crafter.rfPerOperation = 100 RF, and fast mode does crafter.speedOperations = 5 operations at once.[10]
- The screen controller holds screen.screenControllerMaxRF = 60,000 RF and accepts screen.screenControllerRFPerTick = 1,000 RF per tick.[10]
- Screen module costs are per tick per block. Button is screen.buttonRFPerTick = 9, dimension is screen.dimensionRFPerTick = 6, clock is screen.clockRFPerTick = 1 and text is screen.textRFPerTick = 0. Energy (screen.energyRFPerTick = 4), fluid (screen.fluidRFPerTick = 4) and itemstack (screen.itemstackRFPerTick = 4) each have their own setting.[10]
- screen.screenRefreshTiming is 500. Higher values make screens less accurate but easier on network bandwidth.[10]
- The multitank's tank.maxCapacity is 32,000 mb.[10]
- The spawner needs up to spawner.maxMobInjections = 10 injections for a full mob extraction.[10]
Client display settings
Information screens use the vanilla font here: screen.useTruetype is false and screen.forceNoTruetype is also false. If you turn TrueType on, the font is screen.fontName = rftoolsutility:ubuntu at screen.fontSize = 40. If the TrueType font causes problems, set the force-disable option to true.[9]
What changed in RFTools Utility between versions?
There isn't much version history to tell for this mod in the pack. FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships RFTools Utility at version 1.21-7.0.12, and the mod has been in the pack since FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier.[2]
The one change listed in the mod's own changelog for that version is that the Patchouli manual documentation was updated and expanded.[11]
Unverified Whether any FTB StoneBlock 4 release changed this mod's recipes, values or behaviour is unverified: the sources here include no pack changelog entries for RFTools Utility.
