What is RFTools Builder?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
RFTools Builder is an addon for RFTools Base that adds the builder, all of the shape cards, and the shield system. If you like automating big construction jobs or protecting your base with shields, this is the mod you're looking for.[1]
It's meant to be used together with RFTools Power. It also needs RFTools Base and McJtyLib to work, so those come along with it.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships RFTools Builder version 1.21-7.0.1. It has been in the pack since version 1.27 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.[2]
Unverified No sources were available on where RFTools Builder fits into the pack's progression, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Recipes, config values and usage details for the builder, shape cards and shields are therefore not covered in this overview.
How do you get started with RFTools Builder?
4 parts
RFTools Builder adds the builder, all the shape cards and the shield system. It is an addon for RFTools Base and depends on it and on McJtyLib. The order below comes from how the in-pack recipes chain together.[1]
Step 1: Get Machine Frames
Most machines in this mod are built around a Machine Frame from RFTools Base. That covers the Composer, Mover, Scanner, Projector, Space Chamber and Shield Projector Tier 1. Make a few before anything else.[3]
Step 2: Make a Shape Card
The Shape Card is the base for the other shape cards. The Void, Placing Liquids, Pump and Quarry cards are all made from it, and it is crafted without a Machine Frame.[3]

Step 3: Pick your first machine
- For the shield system, start with the Shield Projector Tier 1.[3]
- The Space Chamber is a simple Machine Frame craft, and the Space Chamber Controller is made from it.[3]
- The Scanner and Projector both use an Infused Diamond from RFTools Base, so check their recipes before you commit to them.[3]

Step 4: Upgrade later
The Shield Projector Tier 2 is crafted from the Tier 1 projector and keeps its mod recipe. The pack changed the recipes for Shield Projector Tier 3, Shield Projector Tier 4, Shape Card (Fortune Quarry) and Shape Card (Silk Quarry). Each now asks for a Dimensional Shard Gem, and Tier 4 and the Silk Quarry card also ask for a nether star, so treat those as late-game goals.[3]

How does RFTools Builder work?
8 parts
The Builder
The Builder can quarry areas, pump liquids, move, copy or swap structures, collect items and XP, move entities and build structures. Infusing it gives you reduced power consumption and increased speed.[4]
It stores up to 1,000,000 RF (builder.builderMaxRF) and can receive 20,000 RF per tick (builder.builderRFPerTick). The config file marks both as the mod default, and so are the per-operation costs below.[5]
- Building: 500 RF per block operation (builder.builderRfPerOperation).[5]
- Pumping: 300 RF base per block operation (builder.builderRfPerLiquid).[5]
- Quarrying or voiding: 300 RF base per block, and the real cost depends on the hardness of the block (builder.builderRfPerQuarry).[5]
- Moving an entity costs 5,000 RF (builder.builderRfPerEntity). Moving a player costs 40,000 RF (builder.builderRfPerPlayer).[5]
- Each block skipped because of a filter costs 50 RF (builder.builderRfPerSkipped).[5]
- A move across dimensions is 5 times as expensive (builder.dimensionCostFactor).[5]
- In 'collect items' mode, each item costs 20 RF (builder.collectRFPerItem) and each XP level costs 2 RF (builder.collectRFPerXP). It waits 10 ticks before collecting again (builder.collectTimer).[5]
When you use a shape card, the shape can be at most 512 blocks across (builder.maxBuilderDimension) and offset by at most 260 blocks (builder.maxBuilderOffset).[5]
Moving tile entities
The pack sets builder.tileEntityMode to MOVE_BLACKLIST, which means every tile entity can be moved except the blacklisted ones. The block list (builder.blackWhiteListedBlocks) is empty. The NBT list (builder.blackWhiteListedNBTBlocks) contains only minecraft:chest set to false, so chest NBT data is blacklisted and not transferred. Any block missing from that NBT list is blacklisted by default.[5]
Shape cards
A Shape Card represents an area that the Builder or the shield can use. Shape cards can be crafted because builder.shapeCardAllowed is true in the pack. A card that shows 'Disabled in config!' is switched off by that option.[4][5]
To mark an area yourself:[4]
- Sneak and right-click the Builder to start mark mode.[4]
- Right-click to mark the two corners of the area you want.[4]
Special cards change what the Builder does: Shape Card (Quarry), Shape Card (Clearing Quarry), Shape Card (Fortune Quarry), Shape Card (Silk Quarry), Shape Card (Pump), Shape Card (Clearing Pump) and Shape Card (Placing Liquids). There is also a Shape Card (Void). The Builder's RF per operation is multiplied by 2 for the fortune quarry card (builder.fortunequarryShapeCardFactor), by 3 for the silk quarry card (builder.silkquarryShapeCardFactor) and by 0.5 for the void card (builder.voidShapeCardFactor).[4][5]
Quarry cards are enabled (builder.quarryAllowed), and so are the clearing quarry cards, which can be heavier on the server (builder.clearingQuarryAllowed). The quarry has a base speed of 8 blocks per tick (builder.quarryBaseSpeed). The infusion factor is multiplied by 20 and added to that (builder.quarryInfusionSpeedFactor). The quarry chunkloads one chunk at a time (builder.quarryChunkloads) and also quarries tile entities (builder.quarryTileEntities). The block it replaces with is minecraft:dirt (builder.quarryReplace).[5]
The special cards are crafted from other cards. There is also a recipe that turns a clearing pump card back into a normal pump card using dirt.[3]

Composer
The Composer combines shape cards into a composition card. You can rotate and flip each child shape and apply boolean operations to it. Infusing it reduces its power consumption.[4]
Space Chamber and vehicles
The Space Chamber Controller is one of the eight corners of the area you want to copy or move. The other corners are normal Space Chamber blocks. The maximum chamber dimension is 128 blocks (builder.maxSpaceChamberDimension).[4][5]

Insert the card in a Builder to copy or move the linked area. The card shows a base cost, and the final cost depends on the infusion level.[4]
The Vehicle Builder uses a space card linked to a chamber to put a vehicle into a Vehicle Card. A Vehicle Control Module is crafted from a vehicle card. The Vehicle Status Module costs 2 RF per tick per block (mover.vehicleStatusRFPerTick), while the control module costs 0 (mover.vehicleControlRFPerTick).[3][4][5]

Movers
A Mover moves vehicles to other movers. It is used with a Mover Controller, which you place next to one of the movers. Infusing the controller reduces its power consumption. The controller holds up to 100,000 RF (mover.moverControllerMaxRF) and accepts 1,000 RF per tick (mover.moverControllerRFPerTick). One movement uses 1,000 RF (mover.rfPerMove).[4][5]

Shields
Shield Projectors (tiers 1 to 4) form a shield out of adjacent template blocks. They can filter by mob type and do various things such as damage or solid. Use the Smart Wrench to add sections. Template blocks come in red, blue, green and yellow, and the set of one colour should touch the projector. Infusing a projector reduces power consumption and increases damage.[4]
Each of these recipes gives you 8 template blocks.[3]

- The shield block holds up to 200,000 RF (shield.shieldMaxRF) and accepts 5,000 RF per tick (shield.shieldRFPerTick).[5]
- While active, it uses a base of 8 RF per tick for every 10 blocks of shield (shield.shieldRfBase). Shield mode adds 2 RF per tick for every 10 blocks (shield.shieldRfShield), and camo mode adds 2 as well (shield.shieldRfCamo).[5]
- A damage spike does 5 damage to one entity (shield.shieldDamage). It consumes 1,000 RF, or 2,000 RF for player-type damage (shield.shieldRfDamage, shield.shieldRfDamagePlayer).[5]
- A tier 1 shield can be at most 256 blocks in size (shield.shieldMaxSize). With a shape card, the maximum dimension is 256 (shield.maxShieldDimension) and the maximum offset is 128 (shield.maxShieldOffset). Disjoint sections can be added up to 64 blocks away (shield.maxDisjointShieldDistance).[5]
- The looting kill bonus is 3 (shield.lootingKillBonus), and each looting kill gives 2 dimensional shards (shield.shardsPerLootingKill). The shard amount is per block that does damage.[5]
Scanner and Projector
The mod also adds a Scanner and a Projector. The scanner uses 1,000 RF per tick during a scan (scanner.scannerUsePerTick) and holds up to 500,000 RF (scanner.scannerMaxRF). The projector uses 1,000 RF per tick while in use (scanner.projectorUsePerTick) and also holds up to 500,000 RF (scanner.projectorMaxRF). Shapes for a scanner or projector card can be at most 512 blocks across (scanner.maxScannerDimension).[4][5]
How do you progress through RFTools Builder?
6 parts
RFTools Builder doesn't have a single linear tech tree in this pack. Progression comes from the recipes: a few machines are crafted from scratch, and the stronger versions are upgrades made by combining an item you already own with new materials.[3]
Unverified The sources here show no quests in this pack that involve RFTools Builder, so the quest book gives no path for this mod. Everything below follows the in-pack recipes instead.
Shield Projector tiers
The clearest tier ladder in the mod is the Shield Projector, which runs from Shield Projector Tier 1 up to Shield Projector Tier 4. Tier 1 is crafted from scratch. Each higher tier is an upgrade recipe that takes the previous tier's projector as an ingredient, so you can't skip a step.[3]

Shape Card upgrades
Shape cards follow the same upgrade pattern. You start with the basic Shape Card, and the special cards are made by combining it with other items. These include Shape Card (Quarry), Shape Card (Pump), Shape Card (Placing Liquids) and Shape Card (Void).[3]
The quarry line goes further. Shape Card (Fortune Quarry) and Shape Card (Silk Quarry) are both upgrades of the plain quarry card, and the pack changed both recipes.[3]

The pump and quarry cards each have a clearing variant, such as Shape Card (Clearing Quarry), made from the matching base card. Each clearing card also has a recipe that turns it back into the normal version using a piece of dirt.[3]
Building and scanning machines

- Craft the Space Chamber.[3]
- Use it to craft the Space Chamber Controller, whose recipe takes the Space Chamber as an ingredient.[3]
- Craft the Space Card separately.[3]
Mover line
The mover family is made up of separate crafts: Mover, Mover Controller, Mover Status and Mover Control. The control block then has shapeless recipes that cycle it through Mover Control (Page 2), Mover Control (Page 3) and Mover Control (Page 4). A final recipe turns page 4 back into the first version.[3]

How does RFTools Builder work with other mods?
4 parts
Most of RFTools Builder's links to other mods are in its crafting recipes, and a few are changed by the pack. No quests in this pack involve the mod, so recipes are the only in-pack integration source.[3]
RFTools Base is the foundation
RFTools Builder is an addon for RFTools Base and also depends on McJtyLib. Its project page says it is meant to be used together with RFTools Power. In the pack, the Machine Frame from RFTools Base shows up across the mod's machines, such as the Composer, Mover, Space Chamber, Vehicle Builder and Shield Projector Tier 1. The Projector and Scanner also use an Infused Diamond from the same mod. The recipes below show the exact in-pack versions.[1][3]

Vanilla and common-tag items
The rest of the recipes use vanilla components such as redstone, rails, a minecart, a comparator and a repeater. Several recipes accept any item from a shared common tag instead of one specific item. The Projector, Scanner and Mover Controller take any ender pearl. The Mover family and the Vehicle Builder take any iron ingot. The Shield Projector Tier 1 takes any gold ingot. The Space Chamber takes any blue dye and any glass block.[3]
Dimensional Shard Gem upgrades
The pack ties the more powerful Builder parts to Dimensional Shard Gem. The recipes below are marked in the pack data as changed by the pack, so they differ from a plain install of the mod. They upgrade an existing item, which means you need the lower-tier item first.[3]
- Shape Card (Fortune Quarry) is made from a Shape Card (Quarry).[3]
- Shape Card (Silk Quarry) is also made from a Shape Card (Quarry).[3]
- Shield Projector Tier 3 is made from a Shield Projector Tier 2.[3]
- Shield Projector Tier 4 is made from a Shield Projector Tier 3.[3]

Which RFTools Builder config options matter?
5 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
RFTools Builder has a lot of config options, and in this pack they live in two files: a server file for costs, limits and permissions, and a client file for visuals. Every option here that lists a mod default is set to exactly that default. So the pack hasn't changed any of these values, and the numbers below are simply what you get in this pack.[6][7]
Builder power and limits
- builder.builderMaxRF is 1,000,000 RF of storage for the builder.[7]
- builder.builderRFPerTick lets the builder receive 20,000 RF per tick.[7]
- Building a block costs 500 RF through builder.builderRfPerOperation.[7]
- Moving an entity costs 5,000 RF, set by builder.builderRfPerEntity.[7]
- Moving a player costs 40,000 RF, set by builder.builderRfPerPlayer.[7]
- Shapes can be up to 512 blocks across (builder.maxBuilderDimension).[7]
- The shape offset can be up to 260 (builder.maxBuilderOffset).[7]
- Moving something across dimensions is 5 times more expensive, set by builder.dimensionCostFactor.[7]
Shape cards and quarries
Shape cards (builder.shapeCardAllowed), quarry cards (builder.quarryAllowed) and clearing quarry cards (builder.clearingQuarryAllowed) are all allowed to be crafted in this pack. The quarry also chunkloads one chunk at a time (builder.quarryChunkloads) and will quarry tile entities (builder.quarryTileEntities).[7]
- The quarry's base speed is 8 blocks per tick (builder.quarryBaseSpeed).[7]
- The fortune quarry card multiplies the builder's RF per operation by 2 (builder.fortunequarryShapeCardFactor).[7]
- The silk quarry card multiplies it by 3 (builder.silkquarryShapeCardFactor).[7]
- The void card multiplies it by 0.5 (builder.voidShapeCardFactor), so voiding is the cheapest option.[7]
Moving tile entities
builder.tileEntityMode is set to MOVE_BLACKLIST, which means every tile entity can be moved except blacklisted ones. The NBT list in builder.blackWhiteListedNBTBlocks contains minecraft:chest=false. Because that list works as a blacklist, a chest's NBT data is not transferred. The other list, builder.blackWhiteListedBlocks, is empty.[7]
Shield and scanner
- The shield block stores up to 200,000 RF (shield.shieldMaxRF).[7]
- The maximum size of a first-tier shield is 256 blocks (shield.shieldMaxSize).[7]
- Invisible shield mode is allowed (shield.allowInvisibleShield).[7]
- The scanner uses 1,000 RF per tick during a scan (scanner.scannerUsePerTick) and stores up to 500,000 RF (scanner.scannerMaxRF).[7]
- The projector uses 1,000 RF per tick while in use (scanner.projectorUsePerTick) and stores up to 500,000 RF (scanner.projectorMaxRF).[7]
- Scanner and projector shapes can be up to 512 blocks across (scanner.maxScannerDimension).[7]
Client options
builder.showProgressHud is on, so you see a holographic progress display above the builder. The projector sound volume (scanner.baseProjectorVolume) is 0.4, and 0.0 turns it off. If you find the sound annoying, this is the option to change.[6]
What changed in RFTools Builder between versions?
