What is RFTools Base?
2 parts
RFTools Base is the base mod for McJty's tech mods. It is the shared foundation for the RFTools family and for XNet. This pack ships version 1.21-6.0.11, and the mod depends on McJtyLib.[1][2][3]
What it adds
- Dimensional Shard ore generation: a small amount in the overworld and more in other dimensions.[1]
- The machine infuser.[1]
- Base crafting materials for the other tech mods, such as RFTools Power and XNet.[1]
- The smart wrench.[1]
- A security and owner system.[1]
Materials you'll meet early
Dimensional Shard Ore is found underground in small clusters. Fortune affects it, and it drops Dimensional Shards. Those shards go into several of the more complicated recipes, and you can also use them to infuse machines.[4]
Machine Frames are the housing for machines and devices. They do nothing on their own, but they are a ubiquitous crafting ingredient.[5]
Machine Bases are another crafting material. The machines made from them are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output. They are handy for cramped spaces and walls.[6]
How do you get started with RFTools Base?
5 parts
RFTools Base is the base mod for the whole RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. Its features are Dimensional Shard oregen, the Machine Infuser, base crafting materials for the other tech mods, the Smart Wrench, and a security and owner system. Here is the order I would go in.[1][3]
Technology Guide and Smart Wrench
Start with the Technology Guide. Its recipe is the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[7]

Next, make the Smart Wrench. You will use it on machines, for example to turn a Machine Base machine that is facing the wrong way. This recipe is also the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[1][6][7]

Machine Frame and Machine Base
Every machine or device needs some sort of housing. The Machine Frame does nothing on its own, but it is a ubiquitous crafting ingredient. The pack changes this recipe, so go by the one below and not what you remember from the mod.[5][7]

The Machine Base is the second building block. It also does nothing alone, but machines made from it are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone output or input. The pack changes this recipe too.[6][7]

Get Dimensional Shards
Dimensional Shard are used in several of the more complicated recipes, and they can also be used to infuse machines. Dimensional Shard Ore is found underground in small clusters in various dimensions, and Fortune affects its drops. The oregen gives a small amount in the Overworld and more in other dimensions.[1][4]
The pack also gives you a crafted route, and it changes the mod's recipe, so use this one.[7]

The pack also has a changed Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that outputs a Dimensional Shard. The recipe dump lists no item inputs for it, so I can't tell you what it needs.[7]
Machine Infuser
The Machine Infuser uses Dimensional Shards to improve the efficiency of a lot of machines. For most things, infusing reduces their power requirements, and infusing the Infuser itself makes it use less power. Some machines get extra benefits, like a larger scan range on the Screen Controller. The pack changes its recipe.[7][8][9]

Information Screen
Once you have machines running, the Information Screen is a small screen you put next to a machine to show information about it. By default it shows energy information, and it can display power information about any block that supports RF/FE. Using a wrench on it toggles the display mode, if the attached machine supports that. The pack changes this recipe.[7][10][11]

How does RFTools Base work?
7 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation of the whole RFTools family. It supplies the Machine Infuser, the Smart Wrench, the base crafting materials, Dimensional Shard worldgen and the security and owner system that the other tech mods build on. The Technology Guide (Technology Guide) also describes machines from the sibling mods, and those only matter if the matching mod is installed in your game.[1][3][8][12]
Machine Frames and Machine Bases
Machine Frame and Machine Base do nothing on their own. They are crafting ingredients that give machines their housing. Machines built from a Machine Base are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output.[5][6]
When you place a Machine Base machine, its facing depends on which edge of the block your cursor is closest to. Picture an X on the face you are placing against and look at which quarter of the X you are aiming at. The output faces that direction and the input comes from the opposite one. This is particularly useful in cramped spaces and on walls, and these machines can also be placed on ceilings. You can still rotate them afterwards with the wrench in Wrench Mode.[6][13]

Dimensional Shards and infusing
Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions, with a small amount in the Overworld and more in other dimensions. Fortune affects its drops. Shards go into several of the more complicated recipes and are also used to infuse machines.[1][4]

Centrifuge (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/rftoolsbase/honeycomb_dimensional_shard
The pack also changed this Productive Bees centrifuge route to a Dimensional Shard.
The Machine Infuser uses Dimensional Shards to improve the efficiency of many machines. For most machines, infusing lowers their power requirements, and some get extra benefits. You can even infuse the Infuser itself so it uses less power.[8]

Here is what the guide says infusing does for a few machines:[8]
- Crafter and Dialing Device: lower power usage.[14][15]
- Matter Transmitter: lower power consumption and faster teleportation.[16]
- Matter Receiver: lower power consumption.[17]
- Matter Beamer: sends more items per pulse and costs less FE.[18]
- Screen Controller: a larger scan range than the default 32x32x32.[9]
- Spawner: better efficiency.[19]
- Builder: faster. Shield Projector: more damage.[8]
Smart Wrench, modules and filters
The Smart Wrench works like a normal wrench: sneak-right-click to pick a tech block up and right-click to rotate it. Right-click in the air to change its mode. In Select Mode it performs special operations on blocks such as the Shield Projector.[20]

Many RFTools machines accept modules, which are items that add or change functionality. Usually you can just right-click the machine with the module to insert it.[21]
The Filter Module is the module you will use most for item handling. It whitelists or blacklists blocks, items and tags, and can also require matching on NBT and damage. The guide lists the Builder, Modular Storage and the Crafter among the machines that support it.[22]

Crafter and Crafting Card
The Crafter automatically crafts blocks and items. The top tier supports up to 8 recipes and has 26 input slots and 4 output slots. The R button remembers a slot's contents so that slot only accepts that item, and the F button forgets it again.[14]
The Crafting Card holds a recipe, either a regular 3x3 one or a more complex shape. The stored recipe doesn't have to be valid, so the card can also stand for a general set of inputs and an output. Various machines can use it.[23]

Monitoring and remote access
The Information Screen sits next to a machine and shows energy information by default. Some machines offer extra display modes, which you toggle with a wrench. It can show power information for any block that supports RF/FE.[10][11]

The Tablet (empty) gives remote access to machines. Sneak-right-click it to open its internal GUI, which holds up to 6 modules, and right-click to open the current module's GUI. The remote machine must be nearby or chunkloaded. If it is properly chunkloaded, the tablet also works from another dimension.[7][24]

Screens get their power from a nearby Screen Controller. Press Scan in its GUI to connect to the screens in range, and scan again after you add, remove or move screens.[9][25]
Power and fluid storage
Powercells are a simple multiblock. Place them next to each other and they automatically share RF and join up regardless of tier. They come in low, medium and high tiers and have no UI. Hit a side with a Smart Wrench in Wrench Mode to set it to input (blue), output (yellow) or neither (blank). By default the medium Powercell holds 4,000,000 RF each.[26][27]
Dimensional Cells store power too, but cells linked with a Powercell Card share it without touching. Drawing power from remote cells in Output Mode has a small cost, which infusing reduces. The guide lists these default capacities and transfer rates, which infusion can boost:[27][28]
- Lowest tier: 250,000 RF, up to 1,250 RF/Tick.[27]
- Medium tier: 1,000,000 RF, up to 5,000 RF/Tick.[27]
- Top tier: 4,000,000 RF, up to 20,000 RF/Tick.[27]
The Tank holds up to 32 buckets by default. Put a filled bucket in its filter slot to lock it to that fluid, and remove the bucket to allow any fluid again. Pipes can interact with it, and the Builder's Liquid and Pump Cards use a tank connected to the Builder.[29][30][31]
Unverified No config files for this mod were available, so the capacity and range figures above come from the in-game guide's default descriptions. This pack may use different values.
Automation with XNet and the Storage Scanner
- The XNet Controller is the heart of a network. You add a channel, choose its type (items, fluids, energy or redstone), then add connectors to it. Each connector has its own side, priority, filters and transfer settings.[32]
- Red, green, blue and yellow cables form separate local networks and don't connect to each other. Connectors attach a cable network to a block or machine.[33][34]
- Routing cables and Routing Connectors link several controller networks through a Router. A Wireless Router does the same wirelessly, and the tier of the antenna on top decides its range.[33][34][35][36][37]
- The Storage Scanner shows nearby inventories in one GUI, where you can search, request items and insert items back. Inventories marked routable are used for automated insert and extract behavior.[38]
How do you progress through RFTools Base?
3 parts
Unverified The sources here show no quests involving RFTools Base, and the mod is not on the ATM Star quest path. The tiers below follow the in-pack recipes instead of a quest line.
RFTools Base is the foundation of the whole RFTools family, so most of its progression is about building up crafting materials that other mods then ask for. Many of its recipes are changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack versions.[3][7]
Tier 1: Frames, bases and your first tools
Start with the housing blocks. The Machine Frame does nothing on its own but is a common crafting ingredient. The pack changed its recipe.[5][7]

Tier 2: Dimensional Shards and modules
The Dimensional Shard is the key resource here. Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions, and Fortune affects its drops. Shards go into several of the more complicated recipes and can also be used to infuse machines.[4]
You can also craft a shard, using the pack's changed recipe below. The pack also changed a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that outputs shards, shown after it.[7]

With shards sorted, you can make the smaller utility items. The Filter Module is a module. Modules go into machines that support them, and you usually just right-click the machine with the module. The Crafter, for example, supports the Filter Module. The Crafting Card and the Information Screen are more small items, and the Information Screen is built from a Machine Base. The pack changed the recipes for all of these.[7][14][21]

Tier 3: Infused materials, the Machine Infuser and the Tablet

How does RFTools Base work with other mods?
4 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation for the other RFTools mods, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. Its job is to supply crafting materials, and that is where it connects to everything else in the pack. The links below come from in-pack recipes.[1][3][5]
XNet
Every XNet block in the recipe dump is built on a Machine Frame: the Controller, Router, Wireless Router and Redstone Proxy. The pack has changed all four of these recipes, so check the recipe shown here rather than relying on other packs.[5][7]
The RFTools family
The Machine Frame is the housing for the full-size machines. You see it in the Projector and Scanner, the Coal Generator, the Modular Storage and the Tank.[5][7]
The Machine Base is the quarter-block-high version, and those machines usually have a redstone input or output. You'll see it in the Timer, Logic, Sensor and Power Monitor.[6][7]
Infused Diamond, Infused Enderpearl and Dimensional Shard show up in the more advanced recipes. Examples are the Endergenic, Blazing Infuser, Module Template and the upgrades to Shield Projector Tier 3 and Shield Projector Tier 4.[4][7]
Pack-specific recipes
Many of the recipes above are marked as changed by the pack, including the Projector, Scanner, Dimensional Cell and Storage Scanner. Others, like the Mover, Composer and Screen, are plain mod recipes. When something doesn't match what you expect, check the recipe shown here.[7]
The biggest change is the Builder. The pack adds its own KubeJS recipe for it, and that recipe also uses ingredients from outside the RFTools family.[7]

Productive Bees
Productive Bees has a bee conversion recipe named for a dimensional shard bee, and the pack has changed it. It takes Infused Diamond as its input.[7]
