What is Create Crafts & Additions?

3 parts

Create Crafts & Additions is an add-on for Create that connects Create's kinetic power with electricity. If you want to turn rotation into Forge Energy, or Forge Energy into rotation, this is the mod for you. The pack ships version 1.6.0.[1][2]

What it does

The Electric Motor generates kinetic energy from Forge Energy. Its counterpart, the Alternator, does the opposite and turns kinetic energy into Forge Energy at 75% efficiency. So you lose a quarter of the power when you go from rotation to electricity.[1]

To craft these, you first build a Rolling Mill. It's a kinetic machine that makes the rods and wires the mod uses as crafting components.[1]

What else is in the mod

The mod's project page lists a lot more than the motor and alternator. You get connectors and wires for moving energy around, a Redstone Relay to control energy flow with redstone, and a multiblock Accumulator for storage. There's also a Portable Energy Interface for moving energy to and from contraptions, and a Tesla Coil that charges electric items and can also damage players and mobs.[1]

It also adds some fun extras, such as Straw, which lets a Blaze Burner burn liquid fuels, plus biomass-based fuels and a Barbed Wire block.[1]

Where it shows up in the pack

The Electric Motor is one of the three items required by quest "Creative Motor" quest in the "creative" quest chapter. The other two are a Create precision mechanism and an Avaritia redstone singularity. That quest comes after quest "Ascension Tier 1 - Ethereal" quest.[3]

How do you get started with Create Crafts & Additions?

6 parts

Create Crafts & Additions links Create's rotational force with electricity. The Electric Motor generates rotation from Forge Energy, and the Alternator does the opposite at 75% efficiency. Here is the order I'd build things in.[1]

Step 1: Make the Rolling Mill

The Rolling Mill is a kinetic machine that makes rods and wires, and the mod page says you need it to craft the Electric Motor and Alternator. That makes it the first thing to build. You can look up every recipe in JEI.[1]

Once it's running, you can automate it with a belt and two funnels.[4]

Step 2: Craft spools

Spools are what you hold to string wires between connectors. Start with the Empty Spool, then turn it into a Copper Spool. The Copper Spool is also an ingredient in the Alternator.[4][5]

Step 3: Build the Alternator

The Alternator generates electric energy from rotational force. It needs at least 32 RPM to operate, and the more RPM you feed it, the more energy it produces. Its recipe is a mechanical crafting recipe.[4][5]

Step 4: Connect things with wires

The Small Connector links Forge Energy compatible blocks with wires. Hold a spool to create a wire link between connectors. Connectors can also be cycled between Push, Pull and None modes.[4][5]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: createaddition:crafting/connector

Tip: A small connector links to up to 4 other connectors using a Copper, Gold or Electrum Spool. The Large Connector uses high current wires, takes only a Gold or Electrum Spool, and links to up to 6 other connectors.[4][5]

Step 5: Turn power back into motion

The Electric Motor is a compact, configurable source of rotational force. Scrolling on its back panel changes the RPM. It needs a source of energy, and its consumption depends on the RPM you set. The pack's quest book also has a quest in the creative chapter, "Creative Motor" quest, that asks for one.[3][4]

Electrum and the pack's changes

Electrum is the next material you'll want, since the Electrum Spool can be used for high current wiring. The pack changes the recipe that turns gold into Electrum Ingot, so go by the recipe below and not by what you remember from the mod's defaults.[4][5]

Watch out: The Accumulator is a multiblock energy store, but its tooltip says it is deprecated and subject to removal from future releases. Don't build your whole setup around it.[4]

How does Create Crafts & Additions work?

8 parts

The mod's project page describes Create Crafts & Additions as a bridge between electricity and kinetic energy. Everything below follows that idea: you turn rotation into Forge Energy (FE), move it along wires, store it, and turn it back into rotation or use it to charge things.[1]

Rotation to power and back

The Alternator generates FE from rotational force and needs at least 32 RPM to run. The faster you spin it, the more it produces. Its efficiency is 0.75, and the pack keeps that value in alternator.generator_efficiency.[4][6]

The Electric Motor does the opposite and turns FE into rotation. Scroll on its back panel to set the RPM of the output. The higher the RPM you set, the more energy it consumes. In this pack the RPM range is 256 and the minimum consumption is 8 FE/t. Both the motor and the Alternator hold 5,000 FE internally.[4][6]

Both machines are tied together by shared conversion settings. At 256 RPM, the pack's FE rate is 480 FE/t, set in general.fe_at_max_rpm. The stress limit for the Alternator and motor is 16,384 SU at 256 RPM, set in general.max_stress. The pack leaves all of these at the mod defaults.[6]

Rolling Mill

The Rolling Mill uses rotational force to roll metals into rods and wires. For manual use, drop ingots or plates on top of the mill and right-click it to take the output.[4]

To automate it, set up a belt and two funnels. In this pack a roll takes 120 ticks and the base stress impact is 8.[4][6]

Wires and connectors

Energy travels between FE-compatible blocks through connectors joined by wires. The Small Connector uses low current wires. Hold a Copper, Gold or Electrum spool to link it with up to 4 other connectors. Each connector can also be cycled between Push, Pull and None modes.[4][5]

The Large Connector uses high current wires and needs a Gold or Electrum spool. It links with up to 6 other connectors and has the same three modes. The Small Connector With Light works like the small connector but also gives off light when it receives power.[4][5]

Small connectors are limited to 1,000 FE/t in and out, while large connectors handle 5,000 FE/t. A large connector's wire can be up to 32 blocks long. The pack uses the mod defaults for all of these.[6]

The Copper Spool connects to low current connectors, and the Electrum Spool connects to high current ones. Linking two connectors keeps your Empty Spool, so you don't have to craft a new one each time.[4][5]

The connector network's internal buffer is set by wires.connector_network_internal_buffer, which is 80,000 in this pack.[6]

The pack also has wires.connector_allow_passive_io set to true, so blocks attached to a connector can freely pass energy to and from the network.[6]

The Redstone Relay lets energy pass from its input connector to its output connector only while it receives a redstone signal. You can use it as an energy switch.[4][5]

Accumulator multiblock

The Accumulator is a multiblock structure that stores large amounts of energy. You configure one connector as the input and another as the output. The connector marked with a downwards arrow accepts energy from wires, and the one marked with an upwards arrow provides it. The Accumulator also actively pushes energy into blocks on its top and bottom faces, which helps with compatibility with other mods.[4]

In this pack each Accumulator block holds 2,000,000 FE. A structure can be up to 3 wide and 5 high, and its input and output are both capped at 5,000 FE/t. The pack keeps all of these at the mod defaults.[6]

Watch out: The Accumulator's own tooltip says it is deprecated and may be removed in future releases. It works in this pack, but don't plan a build around it lasting forever.[4]

Energy on moving contraptions

Accumulators on a moving contraption can't connect to stationary connectors. The Portable Energy Interface solves this without stopping the contraption.[4][5]

  1. Place one interface on the contraption and a second one on the stationary side, with a gap of 1 or 2 blocks between them.[4]
  2. When they pass each other, they connect. While connected, the stationary interface represents all the Accumulators on the contraption.[4]
  3. Energy is exchanged according to the Push/Pull configuration of the connector.[4]
  4. After no energy has been exchanged for a while, the contraption continues on its way.[4]

A redstone signal stops the stationary interface from engaging. The pack limits each interface to 5,000 FE/t in and out.[4][6]

Charging items and the Tesla Coil

The Tesla Coil charges items placed below it, including any FE item and more. It can also hurt nearby players and mobs when it gets a redstone signal. Here is how it is set up in this pack:[1][4]

  • It holds 40,000 FE, charges at 5,000 FE/t and accepts up to 10,000 FE/t. Recipes use a separate charge rate of 2,000 FE/t.[6]
  • Each shot costs 1,000 FE and fires at a 20 tick interval.[6]
  • A shot deals 3 half hearts to mobs and 2 to players, within a range of 3 blocks.[6]
  • The Shocked effect lasts 20 ticks on both mobs and players, and it severely reduces movement speed.[4][6]
Watch out: A powered Tesla Coil can hit you as well as mobs, so keep your base and farm layouts clear of its 3 block range.[4][6]

The pack also has charging recipes that turn gold into electrum. The gold ingot version is marked as changed by the pack, but the sources don't say what was changed.[5]

For handheld charging, the Capacitor stores 5,000 FE and moves up to 500 FE per transfer. The Pale Gold Amulet occasionally charges the item in your other hand while you hold it, at an average of 2 FE/t.[4][5][6]

Liquid Blaze Burner

Give a Blaze Burner a Straw and it can accept liquid fuels from buckets. In this pack it holds up to 4,000 mB of liquid and 10,000 ticks of heat.[4][6]

Tip: If the liquid capacity is set below 1,000 mB, you can't refill the burner with a bucket. The pack's 4,000 mB is fine.[6]

Biomass Pellet is a solid fuel you can compact from Biomass and water.[4][5]

Computer control

The Electric Motor is a ComputerCraft peripheral. Connect to it with peripheral.wrap(side) and run /cca_api in chat to read the API documentation.[4]

The Digital Adapter is a peripheral that lets computers talk to Display Boards, Speedometers, Stressometers and Rotational Speed Controllers. It also works with the Rope, Hose and Elevator Pulleys, the Mechanical Piston and the Mechanical Bearing. The pack changes its recipe from the mod version.[4][5]

How do you progress through Create Crafts & Additions?

5 parts

Here's the honest picture: the pack's quest book barely touches this mod. There is a single quest involving it, so your real progression comes from the recipes. Read them as three stages: andesite, electrum and brass, plus a couple of optional side branches.[3][5]

Stage 1: Andesite and iron basics

Everything starts with the Empty Spool, which is made from iron parts. It is the base for every wire spool in the mod.[5]

How does Create Crafts & Additions work with other mods?

4 parts

Create Crafts & Additions is a bridge between electricity and Create's kinetic energy, so it connects to Create more than to any other mod. In this pack it also touches a few other mods through recipes and one quest. Here is what the pack's recipe data and quests actually show.[1][5]

Create is the foundation

Most of the mod's machines are built from Create parts. The Rolling Mill is crafted with Create components, and the Alternator and Tesla Coil are made with Create's mechanical crafting.[5]

Quests

The mod appears in one quest I can confirm, "Creative Motor" quest in the creative chapter. Its tasks are the Electric Motor, Precision Mechanism and Redstone Singularity.[3]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Create Crafts & Additions?

In this pack, the only quest the sources show for this mod is in the "creative" chapter. It's "Creative Motor" quest, and it has no title in the pack file.[3]

The quest has three item tasks. You hand in an Electric Motor, an Precision Mechanism and an Redstone Singularity.[3]

It isn't a starting quest. It unlocks only after you finish one other quest, so you need to clear that prerequisite first.[3]

Tip: The Electric Motor is the only item here from this mod. The other two tasks come from other mods, so plan for them before you start the quest.[3]

Unverified The sources don't say what the prerequisite quest asks for, what rewards this quest gives, or whether other chapters involve this mod. The full quest order for the mod is unconfirmed.

Which Create Crafts & Additions config options matter?

6 parts

The options below live in createaddition-common.toml. Wherever the file lists a mod default, this pack sets exactly that default, so the pack hasn't changed those numbers and you get the mod's own balance.[6]

Power conversion

Wires and connectors

Tesla Coil

Watch out: The Tesla Coil hurts players as well as mobs. A shot deals 3 half hearts to mobs (tesla_coil.tesla_coil_hurt_mob) and 2 half hearts to players (tesla_coil.tesla_coil_hurt_player), so don't stand next to a charged coil.[6]

Rolling Mill

The Rolling Mill takes 120 ticks per operation (rolling_mill.rolling_mill_processing_duration) and has a base stress impact of 8 (rolling_mill.rolling_mill_stress). Both match the mod default.[6]

What changed in Create Crafts & Additions between versions?

2 parts

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Create Crafts & Additions 1.6.0. The mod was already in the pack as of FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

1.6.0 (the version in this pack)

  • Added: the Capacitor can now be charged with FE.[7]
  • Changed: the Alternator now has a shaft on both sides.[7]
  • Changed: the Pale Gold Amulet was reworked, specifically how it charges items with the shock effect.[7]
  • Changed: the Alternator, Pale Gold Amulet and Barbed Wire got updated textures.[7]
  • Changed: the Tesla Coil now emits light when active.[7]
  • Fixed: Sable compatibility (docking) was improved.[7]
  • Fixed: the Tesla Coil now reports the correct remaining time when it is starved for energy.[7]

Earlier releases

  • 1.5.11 added ignitable fluids and Create: Aeronautics docking compatibility. It also fixed a Create: Aeronautics crash, a recycling recipe conflict, a girder texture warning and the connector cache logic.[8]
  • 1.5.10 was a round of general fixes.[9]
  • 1.5.9 fixed a sound crash (the changelog says "hopefully") and fixed stress tooltips.[10]
  • 1.5.8 updated the mod to Create 6.0.8 and fixed the Liquid Blaze Burner.[11]
  • 1.5.5 fixed an uncommon crash on launch.[12]
Tip: If you are building around the Capacitor, 1.6.0 is the release where it can be charged with FE, and that is the version in this pack.[2][7]
