Applied Pneumatics is a mod in FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.13.0, where it is version 1.0.9. No verified summary yet. A full guide is planned.

What is Applied Pneumatics?

2 parts

Applied Pneumatics is a bridge between Applied Energistics 2 and PneumaticCraft: Repressurized. It lets your ME Network handle compressed air, temperature and the Amadron trading system. This pack ships version 1.0.9.[1][2]

What it adds

  • Air Storage Cells (1k to 256m) that store compressed air directly in the ME Network, plus Portable Air Storage Cells that work as air tanks up to 20 bar.[2][3]
  • An ME Pressure Interface that keeps a target pressure by pulling air from, or pushing air into, the ME Network.[2][4]
  • An ME Temperature Interface that spends compressed air and AE energy to hold a target temperature.[2][5]
  • Air and Temperature P2P tunnels, so air and heat can travel over AE P2P channels.[2][6]
  • The Amadron Processing Station and the Amadron Wireless Terminal, which connect Amadron trades to the ME autocrafting network.[2][7][8]
  • New upgrade cards (Volume, Security, Vacuum and Charging) and some extra recipes, including Amadron trades and Assembly Chamber recipes.[2][9][10]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack has no chapter for this mod. Its quest lives in the "PneumaticCraft" chapter, in the "Tech Mods" group. That chapter is number 31 of 31 in the book and has 36 quests. The quest book has the full text of the 13 quests I can't show here.[11]

The quest is "Automating Amadron" quest. It asks you to get the Amadron Wireless Terminal and the Amadron Processing Station, and it comes after the PneumaticCraft quest "The Amadron Network". The quest text explains how to encode Amadron trades into patterns so your ME system can automate them.[11]

The PneumaticCraft quests that come before it include "Making Circuit Boards!" quest, which also follows "The Amadron Network". The quest sources don't show anything that comes after Automating Amadron. They also don't tie this mod to the ATM Star path.[11]

How do you get started with Applied Pneumatics?

4 parts

This add-on is a bridge between Applied Energistics 2 and PneumaticCraft: Repressurized. It lets your ME network handle compressed air, temperature and the Amadron trading system.[2]

If AE2 is new to you, the quest book has "Getting Started With Applied Energistics!" quest in the General Storage chapter. Its text is in the quest book, so go read it there.[12]

Get PneumaticCraft running

Start with the PneumaticCraft chapter. "Just A Little Pressure, Right?" quest asks you for compressed iron, "Pushing Pressure" quest for pressure tubes, and "Generating Air Pressure" quest for an air compressor. Later, "Precious Pressure" quest asks for Pressure Chamber walls. You will want the Pressure Chamber, because the cell housing below is made in it.[11][13]

Watch out: The Pushing Pressure quest warns that pressure tubes explode if the pressure inside gets too high, and that a hole in the pipe network lets air escape. Keep this in mind from your very first setup.[11]

Build an ME Pressure Interface

The ME Pressure Interface is the easiest way to get air into and out of your ME network. You set a target pressure and it inserts or extracts air from the network to stay as close to that value as it can. It connects to PneumaticCraft pressure pipes, and it has a slot for air containers such as air tanks.[4]

Add a Security Card early. If too much pressure is suddenly pushed in, or the ME network goes offline and the interface passes its danger threshold, the card prevents explosions and vents the excess air.[4]

Store air in cells

Air Storage Cells give the ME network a place to keep air. Every cell needs an Air Storage Cell Housing. In this pack you can make it in the Pressure Chamber, or buy it from Amadron.[3][13]

Pressure Chamber (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:cells/housing/air_cell_shell

The Amadron route is a trade of 32 emeralds for one air storage housing.[9][13]

Amadron (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:amadron/emerald_to_air_cell_shell

Then combine the housing with a matching AE2 storage component to get your first cell, for example the 1k ME Air Storage Cell. Each byte of a cell holds 250 mL of air.[3][13]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:cells/shapeless/air_cell_1k

Watch out: When a cell is full and more air is inserted, the cell is ejected from the drive and may even make the drive explode. A Security Card makes a full cell reject further insertion. A Vacuum Card destroys the excess air instead.[3][10]

The portable versions, like the 1k Portable Air Storage Cell, fit in a drive like a normal cell. They can also work as an air tank with a maximum pressure of 20 bar, so they can talk directly to PneumaticCraft machines.[3][14]

The 1M to 256M cells and the Extended A.P.S. are mentioned in the always_show_extended_content option, which this pack sets to false. The config comment says it only affects whether they show up in the creative menu and does not add recipes. The pack does have recipes for these cells, and the bigger ones use the MEGA housing.[13][15]

Automate trading with Amadron

In the quest book, "Automating Amadron" quest sits in the PneumaticCraft chapter, straight after "The Amadron Network" quest. It asks for the Amadron Wireless Terminal and the Amadron Processing Station.[7][8][11]

The terminal runs on energy instead of compressed air, and it lets you shop with everything in your ME network. Link it to at least one ME Wireless Access Point and one Amadron Processing Station. You bind it by Shift-right-clicking the station.[7]

You can save unlimited-supply trades as patterns and place them into the Amadron Processing Station to automate them. The quest asks you to encode one in the terminal, and its text says the Pattern Encoding Terminal cannot make these patterns.[7][11]

Watch out: Keep the top of the Amadron Processing Station unobstructed. Otherwise the Amadron drones may refuse to deploy, and the station clogs with resources that you then have to clear by hand.[8]

How does Applied Pneumatics work?

7 parts

Applied Pneumatics is a bridge between Applied Energistics 2 and PneumaticCraft: Repressurized. It lets your ME network handle compressed air, temperature and the Amadron trading system. Here is how each of those systems works in this pack.[2]

Air in the ME network

The ME network can store air, and the buses and the storage UI understand air containers such as air tanks. These behaviours are worth knowing before you automate anything.[16]

  • Air output into a linked air container is pressure-limited automatically, so it will not make the target explode.[16]
  • Air extraction can pull a container down to 0 bar, but it cannot replace a vacuum pump.[16]
  • Storage access lets the ME network see a linked air container. A container at negative pressure counts as 0 mL.[16]

Air Storage Cells

Air Storage Cells give a drive the ability to store air, and each byte holds 250 mL. The family runs from 1k up to 256M, for example 1k ME Air Storage Cell, 16k ME Air Storage Cell, 1M ME Air Storage Cell and 16M ME Air Storage Cell.[2][3][14]

Watch out: If a cell is full and more air is inserted, the cell is ejected from the drive and the drive may even explode. Put a Security Card or a Vacuum Card in the cell to prevent this. The Security Card rejects further insertion when full, and the Vacuum Card destroys the excess air.[3][10]

Portable cells such as 1M Portable Air Storage Cell and 16M Portable Air Storage Cell fit in a drive like a normal air cell. They also work as an air tank with a maximum pressure of 20 bar, so they can interact with PneumaticCraft machines directly. Add a Charging Card and a portable cell will use energy and its stored air to charge gas-using items in your inventory.[3][10][14]

Charging CardMod recipe

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:charging_card

Every cell needs a housing. The Air Storage Cell Housing is made in a pressure chamber in this pack, and the MEGA housing for the 1M and larger cells is a pressure chamber recipe too.[13]

A finished cell is then a shapeless craft that combines a housing with a storage component. Here is the 1k version.[13]

ME Pressure Interface

You set a target pressure and the interface inserts or extracts air from the ME network to keep its pressure as close to that value as possible. Holding Shift while adjusting the target changes it in steps of 5. The screen also shows the danger pressure.[4][14]

On the outside it moves air through PneumaticCraft pressure pipes, with air flowing naturally from high pressure to low. It also has an item slot for air containers such as air tanks, and it charges or drains them depending on the relative pressure.[4]

  • Volume Card: raises the base volume, so the interface stores more air at the same pressure.[4][10]
  • Security Card: if too much pressure suddenly comes in, or the ME network becomes unavailable and the interface passes its danger threshold, it vents the excess air instead of exploding.[4]
  • Vacuum Card: allows a negative target pressure. This replaces a vacuum pump and lets the interface draw air from the world through open pipes. The rate is limited, but it uses almost no resources.[4]

ME Temperature Interface

The ME Temperature Interface moves its internal temperature to the value you set, paying with air and energy from the ME network. Each 1 J of heat changed costs approximately 25 AE energy and 19 mL of air. Holding Shift while adjusting the target changes it in steps of 10.[5][14]

An Acceleration Card raises the maximum temperature change per tick, and a Volume Card raises the base heat capacity.[5][10]

Air and Temperature P2P

The Air P2P Tunnel sends compressed air across the AE network from one input to several outputs. The Temperature P2P Tunnel does the same for heat.[6]

  1. Place a P2P tunnel and tune it. For Air, right-click with any item that has an air capability. For Temperature, right-click with a Compressed Iron Block, Heat Pipe or Heat Sink.[6]
  2. Place one or more P2P tunnels as outputs and link them to the input with a Memory Card.[6]
  3. Place a block with air or temperature capability next to a tunnel to start transmission.[6]

The Air P2P input shows the average pressure of all outputs to the outside. When a higher-pressure system connects to it, air flows in and is shared among the outputs, weighted by the pressure difference between the average and each output.[6]

The Temperature P2P input shows the heat-capacity-weighted average temperature of all outputs. When it exchanges heat with another thermal system, it passes that heat to the outputs weighted by each output's heat capacity multiplied by the temperature difference between the input and that output.[6]

Amadron automation

The Amadron Processing Station handles orders from the Amadron Wireless Terminal and from ME auto-crafting. Once an order is queued, the station sends a drone request to the Amadron Shopping Center every 200 game ticks. Each drone handles only one type of order.[8]

Watch out: Keep the top of the station unobstructed. Otherwise the Amadron drones may refuse to deploy, and the station clogs with resources that you have to clear by hand.[8]

If you destroy a station with orders still queued, the unfinished order resources go back to the ME network. If the network is unavailable or full, the rest drops as items. The Cancel button cancels all orders and returns their resources the same way. It does not auto-return anything already in the input slots, and it does not cancel auto-crafting tasks.[8][14]

An Acceleration Card in the station raises both the maximum number of drones per dispatch and the maximum number of orders each drone can process.[8]

The Amadron Wireless Terminal runs on energy instead of compressed air, and while you shop you can reach everything in your ME network. Link it to at least one ME Wireless Access Point and one Amadron Processing Station. To bind the station, Shift-right-click it.[7]

  • Right-click raises the purchase amount and Shift-right-click doubles it.[7]
  • Left-click lowers the amount and Shift-left-click halves it.[7]
  • Click Submit Order when you are done.[7][14]

To skip the manual shopping, save unlimited-supply trades as patterns and put them in the station. The trades are then automated.[7]

There is also an Extended A.P.S, made in the Crystal Assembler from the base station. The Amadron Processing Station Upgrade is crafted from the Extended A.P.S. A station can only be upgraded when it is idle and holds nothing but patterns.[13][14]

Pack config

The mod's common config has a single option, always_show_extended_content, and this pack sets it to false. When it is on, it makes the integration content, such as the 1M to 256M storage cells and the Extended A.P.S, appear in the creative menu. It does not add recipes.[15]

How do you progress through Applied Pneumatics?

5 parts

Applied Pneumatics bridges Applied Energistics 2 and PneumaticCraft: Repressurized, so you climb it from both sides. You need PneumaticCraft machinery first, then AE2 parts. The pack's quest book has one quest for the mod in the PneumaticCraft chapter (group Tech Mods, chapter 31 of 31), straight after the Amadron Network quest.[2][11]

Step 1: PneumaticCraft groundwork

Work through "Just A Little Pressure, Right?" quest, then "Pushing Pressure" quest for tubes, then "Generating Air Pressure" quest for your first air source. "Precious Pressure" quest gets you the Pressure Chamber, and that matters because the cell housings are crafted in one.[11][13]

On the AE2 side, the General Storage chapter (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 7 of 31) starts you off with "Getting Started With Applied Energistics!" quest. One untitled quest there, after I/O Bus, notes that Applied Pneumatics exports air pressure using Air Tanks. Most of that chapter's quest text is not reproduced here, so check the quest book for the rest.[12]

Step 2: Air storage cells

Air cells let your ME network store air. Each byte holds 250 mL. Every cell from 1k ME Air Storage Cell up to 256k ME Air Storage Cell is built on the Air Storage Cell Housing, and its recipe is shown below.[3][13]

Pressure Chamber (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:cells/housing/air_cell_shell

If you would rather skip the Pressure Chamber, there is also an Amadron trade that gives the housing for 32 emeralds. The Amadron Tablet comes from "The Amadron Network" quest.[9][11][13]

Amadron (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:amadron/emerald_to_air_cell_shell

Once you have a housing, each cell is a shapeless craft with the matching AE2 storage component. Here is the 1k cell as an example. The 4k, 16k, 64k and 256k cells follow the same pattern.[13]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:cells/shapeless/air_cell_1k

Watch out: When an air cell is full and you push more air in, it is ejected from the drive and may even make the drive explode. A Security Card or a Vacuum Card in the cell prevents that. The Vacuum Card destroys the excess air instead.[3][10]

Step 3: MEGA cells and portable cells

The big tiers, 1M ME Air Storage Cell through 256M ME Air Storage Cell, use the MEGA Air Storage Cell Housing in place of the normal housing. Both recipes are shown below.[13]

Pressure Chamber (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:cells/housing/mega_air_cell_shell

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:cells/shapeless/air_cell_1m

Portable versions exist at every tier, such as 1k Portable Air Storage Cell. They fit in a drive like a normal cell, but they also work as an air tank with a maximum pressure of 20 bar, so they connect straight to PneumaticCraft machines. Add a Charging Card and they will charge air-using items in your inventory.[3][10][13]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:cells/shapeless/portable_air_cell_1k

Step 4: Interfaces and upgrade cards

The ME Pressure Interface holds a target pressure by moving air in and out of your ME network, and it connects to PneumaticCraft pressure pipes.[4]

The ME Temperature Interface holds a target temperature. For each 1 J of heat it changes, it uses roughly 25 AE energy and 19 mL of air. The Thermodynamics quest ("Thermodynamics" quest) is the heat background for it.[5][11]

  • Volume Card: in either interface, raises base volume or base heat capacity.[10]
  • Security Card: in the Pressure Interface it prevents explosions from excess pressure. In air cells it prevents overfilling.[10]
  • Vacuum Card: in the Pressure Interface it allows a negative target pressure. In air cells it destroys excess air.[10]
  • Charging Card: only for Portable Air Storage Cells.[10]

The mod also adds Air P2P and Temperature P2P tunnels. They carry compressed air or heat across your AE network from one input to several outputs. You tune a P2P tunnel to Air by right-clicking it with an item that can store air, and to Temperature with a Compressed Iron Block, Heat Pipe or Heat Sink.[6]

Step 5: Automating Amadron

The mod's quest is "Automating Amadron" quest, which comes after "The Amadron Network" quest and asks for the Amadron Wireless Terminal and the Amadron Processing Station. With both, you can save items with unlimited supply as patterns in the terminal, put them in the station, and automate the trades.[7][11]

Once an order is queued, the station sends a drone request every 200 game ticks, so keep the top of the station unobstructed or the drones may refuse to deploy.[7][8]

The last rung is the Extended A.P.S, made in an assembler. Its output then becomes the Amadron Processing Station Upgrade.[13]

How does Applied Pneumatics work with other mods?

5 parts

Applied Pneumatics is a bridge between Applied Energistics 2 and PneumaticCraft: Repressurized, so nearly everything it adds is crafted from parts of both. A few recipes also reach into MEGA Cells and ExtendedAE. Here is how the pieces connect in this pack.[2][13]

Air storage cells: AE2, MEGA Cells and the Pressure Chamber

The Air Storage Cell Housing is not a crafting table recipe. It is made in a PneumaticCraft Pressure Chamber, so you need a working pressure setup before you can store air in your ME network.[13]

Pressure Chamber (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:cells/housing/air_cell_shell

The MEGA Air Storage Cell Housing is a second Pressure Chamber recipe. It builds on the normal housing and also needs material from MEGA Cells.[13]

Pressure Chamber (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:cells/housing/mega_air_cell_shell

Turning a housing into a working cell is a simple shapeless craft with a storage component. The k tiers (1k up to 256k) pair the normal housing with AE2 components, and the M tiers (1M up to 256M) pair the MEGA housing with MEGA Cells components.[13]

The k tiers use the normal housing.

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:cells/shapeless/air_cell_1m

The M tiers use the MEGA housing.

Portable cells follow the same pattern, with an AE2 ME Chest and Energy Cell added to the craft. Each cell size also has a matching disassembly recipe that uses AE2's storage cell disassembly type. The in-game guide says portable cells work as air tanks with a maximum pressure of 20 bar and can interact directly with PneumaticCraft machines.[3][13]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:cells/shapeless/portable_air_cell_1k

Upgrade cards

The Security Card, Vacuum Card, Charging Card and Volume Card are all built on AE2's Advanced Card combined with PneumaticCraft parts. Three of them take a matching PneumaticCraft upgrade, and the Vacuum Card uses a Vacuum Pump and a Finished PCB instead.[13]

ME Pressure and ME Temperature Interfaces

Both interfaces use AE2's Annihilation Core and Formation Core, plus a PneumaticCraft compressor. The ME Pressure Interface uses the basic Air Compressor, while the ME Temperature Interface uses the Advanced Air Compressor, a Vortex Tube and a Block of Compressed Iron.[13]

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: appliedpneumatics:me_pressure_interface_block

The Pressure Interface keeps a target pressure by pulling air from or pushing air into the ME network, and it connects outward through PneumaticCraft pressure pipes. The Temperature Interface consumes compressed air and AE energy to hold a target temperature.[2][4]

Buses and P2P tunnels

AE2's Import, Export and Storage Buses can recognize air containers, and the add-on also adds Air P2P and Temperature P2P types. You tune an Air P2P by right-clicking with any item that can store air. A Temperature P2P is tuned with a Compressed Iron Block, Heat Pipe or Heat Sink. Outputs are then linked to the input with a Memory Card.[6][16]

Amadron and the ME network

The Amadron Processing Station combines AE2's ME Interface and ME Pattern Provider with PneumaticCraft's Charging Station and a Finished PCB. It connects PneumaticCraft's Amadron trading to AE2 auto-crafting.[2][13]

The quest book covers this in "Automating Amadron" quest, which comes after "The Amadron Network". It sits in the "PneumaticCraft" chapter of the "Tech Mods" group, the last chapter in the book. The quest says Amadron trades use their own pattern type, which you encode in the Amadron Wireless Terminal.[11]

Watch out: The Pattern Encoding Terminal cannot make Amadron Processing Patterns. The + button in JEI only gives an ordinary processing pattern, and the Amadron Processing Station will refuse it.[11]

22 of the 36 quests in the "PneumaticCraft" chapter are not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest of the PneumaticCraft side.[11]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Applied Pneumatics?

2 parts

This mod shows up in two chapters of the quest book. Its main quest is in the PneumaticCraft chapter, and there's a short mention in the General Storage chapter.[11][12]

PneumaticCraft chapter

The PneumaticCraft chapter is chapter 31 of 31 in the book, in the Tech Mods group. The mod's quest sits in the Amadron branch. That branch goes "Thermopneumatic Processing Plant" quest, then "The Amadron Network" quest, which asks for Plastic and the Amadron Tablet. From there, two quests follow: "Making Circuit Boards!" quest and "Automating Amadron" quest.[11]

"Automating Amadron" quest is the one that involves this mod. It asks you to get the Amadron Wireless Terminal and the Amadron Processing Station. The idea is that your ME system can automate Amadron trades, but they use their own kind of pattern.[11]

  1. Put a Blank Pattern into the pattern slot of the Amadron Wireless Terminal.[11]
  2. Find the offer you want in the list and press the save button next to it. That gives you an Amadron Processing Pattern.[11]
  3. Drop the finished pattern into the Amadron Processing Station, and the trade becomes craftable like any other recipe.[11]
Watch out: The Pattern Encoding Terminal cannot make Amadron patterns. The + button in JEI only gives you an ordinary processing pattern, and the Amadron Processing Station will refuse it.[11]

General Storage chapter

General Storage is chapter 7 of 31, in the Resources & Logistics group. It has an untitled checkmark quest, a quest in "General Storage", that comes right after "I/O Bus" quest. It lists special right-click interactions for import and export buses, and the Applied Pneumatics entry says it exports Air Pressure using Air Tanks.[12]

The book lists 146 quests in General Storage, and 53 of them aren't covered here, so check the quest book itself for those.[12]

Which Applied Pneumatics config options matter?

Applied Pneumatics keeps its common config small. The only option this pack's config file shows is always_show_extended_content, and it is set to false.[15]

This option controls whether crossover content, such as the 1m to 256m storage cells, always shows up in the creative mode menu. It does not add any recipes. It only changes what appears in the creative menu.[15]

Tip: With this option on false in the pack, don't expect that crossover content to be listed in the creative menu. Turning it on would not make it craftable in survival, because the option adds no recipes.[15]

Unverified The sources do not say what the mod's own default for this option is, so it is unconfirmed whether the pack changed it.
