What is Apothic-Enchanting?

2 parts

Apothic Enchanting is the enchanting module of Apotheosis. It overhauls Minecraft's enchanting system and adds new enchantments and utilities on top. This pack includes version 1.6.2.[1][2]

The big change is Enchanting Stats. Bookshelves give the Enchanting Table three primary stats: Eterna (enchanting strength, which raises the level cost), Quanta (how much randomness is involved) and Arcana (more enchantments, and rarer ones). Bookshelves only count in 32 valid locations around the table, and the table's max level goes up to 100.[1]

Utilities you get

  • Tomes work like a book when enchanting, but only accept enchantments for one type of item.[1]
  • The Tome of Scrapping pulls half of an item's enchantments and destroys the item. The Tome of Superior Scrapping pulls all of them but still destroys it. The Tome of Extraction pulls all of them and keeps the item.[1]
  • The Enchantment Library stores all your enchanted books in one place, so you can search them and extract only what you need.[1]
  • Experience costs are normalized for the Enchanting Table and the Anvil, so only the true amount of experience is deducted.[1]

Where it sits in the quest book

The mod's quests live in the "Gearing Up" chapter, in the "Exploration & Combat" group. It is chapter 14 of 31 in the book and has 94 quests. The chapter opens with "Gearing Up For Adventure!" quest, and the enchanting questline starts at "The Secrets of Enchanting" quest. Other mods share the chapter, and a good chunk of its quests aren't covered here, so check the quest book for the rest. The mod is not on the ATM Star quest path.[3]

  1. "Enchantment Library" quest, "Miscellaneous Shelves" quest, "Hotswapping Enchantments" quest, "Upgraded Shelves" quest and "Stabilizing Your Enchantments" quest all come right after The Secrets of Enchanting.[3]
  2. "Hellshelf Infusion" quest follows the first Upgraded Shelves quest. After it come "Upgraded Shelves" quest, "Filtering Unwanted Enchants" quest and "Hellshelf of Masterful Sight" quest.[3]
  3. "Venturing Deeper" quest leads to "Achieving Enlightenment" quest, then "Endshelf" quest, then "Level 100 Enchanting" quest.[3]
  4. "Library of Alexandria" quest and "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest both come after Level 100 Enchanting, as the last quests I can see in this line.[3]
Tip: In this pack, the quest book ties your Eterna cap to both your shelf tier and your World Tier. It sets 45 Eterna at Frontier and 60 at Ascent, and the Draconic Endshelf adds 20 Eterna to reach the max of 100. Plan your shelf upgrades around your World Tier progress.[3]

How do you get started with Apothic-Enchanting?

5 parts

Enchanting in this pack is a progression of its own. The quest book covers it in the "Gearing Up" chapter (group "Exploration & Combat", chapter 14 of 31), and the first quest there is "The Secrets of Enchanting" quest. It asks for a plain enchanting table, which is your starting point.[3]

Learn the three stats

Before you build anything, know what you are building towards. Eterna is the power of the table and sets the maximum level of your enchants. Quanta is the randomness. Arcana is the quality and quantity, so it sets how rare your enchants are and how many you get per use. Eterna is capped by the tier of your bookshelves and by your World Tier.[1][3]

Build your first upgraded shelves

The "Upgraded Shelves" quest quest sets your first goal: get Eterna to 45 by reaching the Frontier World Tier. You do that with upgraded shelves. The Hellshelf is easier to craft and boosts Quanta.[3]

Infuse them

Next comes "Hellshelf Infusion" quest. Both shelves have an infusion recipe that turns them into their infused versions, and those are what the later shelf upgrades are built from.[3][4]

Tame the randomness

Quanta adds randomness to your rolls. At max chaos you end up with either +100% or -100% power. The Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability cancels out the negative side, so you keep the upside. It is covered in "Stabilizing Your Enchantments" quest.[3]

Tip: The quest "Miscellaneous Shelves" quest also covers the Beeshelf, Melonshelf and Stoneshelf. These are unique shelves with special bonuses, such as adding 100% Quanta or removing Quanta and Arcana, so read what each one does before you place it.[3]

Store your enchantments

Once you have the basics running, make an Enchantment Library ("Enchantment Library" quest). It stores enchantments, and with enough low-level enchants it can also create books of higher-level enchants for you.[3]

From there the chapter continues with deeper shelf tiers, the end-game shelves and the Enchanting Table of the Raven. Some quests in this chapter are not shown in the sources here, so check the quest book for the rest.[3]

How does Apothic-Enchanting work?

9 parts

Enchanting here is not about power, fluids or pipes. The sources describe a stat system: the enchanting table reads the blocks around it, and those blocks decide what you can get. The mod's description says it overhauls Minecraft's enchanting system and raises the Enchanting Table's max level to 100.[1]

The three primary stats

Eterna measures enchanting strength and increases the level cost. Quanta measures randomness, so it changes how much RNG is involved. Arcana measures mystical quality: it increases the number of enchantments you receive and makes rare enchantments more common. All three show up directly in the table's GUI.[1]

Secondary stats

  • Enchanting Clues change how many enchantments you are shown when you hover a slot in the table. More is generally better.[1]
  • Quantic Stability makes Quanta only beneficial, so it can no longer cause negative effects.[1]
  • Allowing Treasure makes treasure enchantments, such as Mending, show up in the table. Curses count as treasure enchantments too, so be careful.[1]
  • Enchantment Filters let you blacklist certain enchantments from the table, so blocks with this stat can strip unwanted enchantments out of the pool.[1]

Where shelves have to go

Stats come mainly from bookshelves. There are 32 valid bookshelf locations: the ring around the table (corners included) on the table's own y-level, and the same ring one level above. Other stat blocks, such as skulls or candles, only count if they sit in one of those locations too.[1]

Watch out: There must be an air block between the Enchanting Table and the bookshelf, otherwise that location is not valid.[1]

Any block that gives enchanting stats shows them in its item tooltip. Some blocks give stats dynamically, so the tooltip can be slightly off. Candles are the example: you can stack up to 4 in one block space, and stacking them gives more Arcana.[1]

How the max Eterna ladder works

Most blocks declare a max Eterna value, which is the most that block can contribute to before its Eterna bonus is discarded. It works as a step ladder: blocks with the lowest max are counted first, so you never need to remove your low-max blocks to climb higher.[1]

The mod's own example: 15 bookshelves (max 30) give you 30 Eterna. Another bookshelf keeps you at 30, but adding a Hellshelf (max 45) raises it to 33. Blocks with no specific enchanting stats that would normally provide enchanting power give their usual Eterna, capped at a max of 30.[1]

The enchanting stats of any block can be adjusted with a datapack, and the mod also has an API for dynamic stats.[1]

The Apothic Enchanting Table is a cosmetic variant of the Enchanting Table. Here is its in-pack recipe:[4][5]

Tomes

Tomes act like books when enchanted, but only accept enchantments for one type of item. The mod has nine in total: helmets, chestplates, leggings, boots, swords, bows, pickaxes, fishing poles, and one for enchantments that fit none of the others. In this pack, the recipes for these four each make several tomes at once:[1][4]

Scrapping tomes remove enchantments from an item. The basic Tome of Scrapping pulls only half of the enchantments and destroys the item. The Tome of Superior Scrapping pulls all of them but still destroys the item. The Tome of Extraction pulls all of them and leaves the item intact.[1]

In this pack, the Extraction tome is made with an infusion recipe, and one infusion gives you 4.[4]

Infusion recipes

Several items use the mod's own recipe type, infusion. The infusion recipes shown in the pack are:[4]

The mod's advancements also call this Infusion Enchanting, and use it to obtain the Infused Hellshelf and the Infused Seashelf. The pack's infusion recipes list Hellshelf and Seashelf as inputs.[4][5]

The advancements add a few more shelf hints: activating a Dormant Deepshelf, making a Sculkshelf using a Warden Tendril, and upgrading an Infused Hellshelf or Infused Seashelf.[5]

Experience costs

Apotheosis normalizes experience costs for both the Enchanting Table and the Anvil. Only the true amount of experience is deducted, instead of levels subtracted from your current level, so you do not have to micromanage your XP.[1]

How do you progress through Apothic-Enchanting?

8 parts

Enchanting in this pack is a ladder of bookshelf tiers, and the quest book walks you up it. It all lives in the Gearing Up chapter (Exploration & Combat group, chapter 14 of 31), and the enchanting line starts at "The Secrets of Enchanting" quest.[3]

The three stats

Apotheosis adds three values to enchanting. Eterna is the power of the table, capped by your bookshelf tier and your World Tier, and it sets the maximum enchant level. Quanta is the chaos of high-power enchanting and controls how random the enchants are. Arcana is the quality and quantity of enchantments: it sets their rarity and how many you get per use.[3]

World Tiers

"Apothic World Tiers" quest comes after "Apothic Gems!" quest. You start at Haven when you get your first Affix Item and unlock more tiers as you advance in the mod. Higher tiers increase mob stats and rewards in all dimensions, and the quest says they also reduce your max Eterna cap. The shelf quests below name Frontier, Ascent and Summit as the tiers to reach.[3]

Side branches from the first quest

Several quests unlock straight after "The Secrets of Enchanting" quest, and you can pick them up as you like:[3]

Tier 1: Hellshelf and Seashelf

The first "Upgraded Shelves" quest quest sets the goal of 45 Eterna by reaching the Frontier World Tier. The Hellshelf is easier to craft and boosts Quanta. The Seashelf needs some fishing to get started and builds Arcana instead.[3]

Tier 2: Infused shelves

"Hellshelf Infusion" quest asks you to infuse both shelves. In the pack this is an infusion recipe that turns each base shelf into its infused version.[3][4]

The second "Upgraded Shelves" quest quest targets 60 Eterna, 40 Quanta and 40 Arcana, and needs the Ascent World Tier. You upgrade the infused shelves into a Blazing Hellshelf or Glowing Hellshelf, and a Crystalline Seashelf or Heart-Forged Seashelf.[3][4]

Two more quests branch off the infusion step. "Filtering Unwanted Enchants" quest gives you the Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration, which can hold up to six enchanted books and blocks those enchantments from appearing, curses included. "Hellshelf of Masterful Sight" quest gives you the Hellshelf of Masterful Sight, which gives 2 Enchanting Clues per shelf instead of 1.[3]

Tip: The pack changed the recipes for the Hellshelf of Masterful Sight and its base Hellshelf of Sight, so check the recipe below instead of relying on the mod's defaults.[4]

Tier 3: Deepshelves

"Venturing Deeper" quest needs the Deepshelf plus one of its upgraded variants, and you must reach the Summit World Tier. These shelves push Eterna to a max of 75. The Deepshelf comes from infusing a Dormant Deepshelf.[3][4]

Tier 4: The Endshelf

"Achieving Enlightenment" quest locks the final tier behind Infused Dragon's Breath, made by infusing Dragon's Breath. The quest lists 80 Eterna, between 15 and 30 Quanta, and at least 60 Arcana as the targets. If your Arcana falls short, candles give a small boost.[3][4]

Level 100 and beyond

"Level 100 Enchanting" quest is the centerpiece of a finished setup. The Draconic Endshelf adds no stats but boosts Eterna by 20, letting you hit a max of 100. The Pearlescent Endshelf is the best general-purpose shelf, with large amounts of both Quanta and Arcana.[3]

"Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest asks for the Enchanting Table of the Raven, which lets you set Eterna, Quanta and Arcana by hand with no nearby bookshelves.[3][4]

How does Apothic-Enchanting work with other mods?

3 parts

Apothic Enchanting is the enchanting module of Apotheosis, and in this pack its items show up in recipes from several other mods. Two to watch for are the Warden Tendril and Infused Dragon's Breath.[1][4]

Warden Tendril in other mods' recipes

The pack adds a Draconic Evolution fusion crafting recipe for Master Ninja Gear. Besides the Warden Tendril from this mod, it draws on gear from other mods, such as the Charm of Resonant Shield, the Shadow-Walker Mask and the Spectre Boots. The recipe below shows the exact amounts.[4]

The pack also adds a PneumaticCraft thermo plant recipe that turns a Warden Tendril and 100 Molten Hellfire into Sculk Powder.[4]

Apotheosis recipes that use this mod's items

Several standard Apotheosis recipes pull in items from Apothic Enchanting: the Thundering Spawner Upgrade Rune, the Mountaineer's Spawner Upgrade Rune and the Gate Pearl. The notes on the recipes below show which part comes from this mod.[4]

Infused Dragon's Breath is the Apothic Enchanting part of this recipe.

The Warden Tendril comes from this mod.

This one uses both the Warden Tendril and Infused Dragon's Breath.

The Table of the Raven

Going the other way, the Enchanting Table of the Raven is an upgrade of this mod's own Apothic Enchanting Table, and its recipe also brings in the God-Fused Pearl from Apotheosis. The recipe below shows the full list.[4]

The quest "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest is in the "Gearing Up" chapter, in the "Exploration & Combat" group. It comes after "Level 100 Enchanting" quest. It says the Table of the Raven lets you set your Eterna, Quanta and Arcana by hand, without nearby bookshelves.[3]

The same quest describes an AE2 link. The Not Enough Patterns mod lets you connect an AE2 Pattern Provider directly to the Table of the Raven. It can then use liquid experience or bottles of enchanting stored in your ME Network to process enchanting recipes automatically. The quest points you to the NEP section of the AE2 Guideme for details.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Apothic-Enchanting?

4 parts

Most of this mod's quests sit in the Gearing Up chapter, which is in the Exploration & Combat group (chapter 14 of 31 in the quest book). That chapter is shared with Apotheosis, Iron's Gems & Jewelry and others, but the enchanting shelves form one clear line that starts at "The Secrets of Enchanting" quest and ends at the Enchanting Table of the Raven. The mod also turns up once in the Piña Colada chapter.[3][6]

Gearing Up: the enchanting line

"The Secrets of Enchanting" quest asks for a vanilla Enchanting Table. It explains Eterna (maximum enchant level), Quanta (randomness) and Arcana (rarity and number of enchants). Several side quests branch off it.[3]

Gearing Up: the shelf upgrade path

  1. "Upgraded Shelves" quest: asks for the Hellshelf and Seashelf. The goal is 45 Eterna by reaching the Frontier World Tier.[3]
  2. "Hellshelf Infusion" quest: asks for the Infused Hellshelf and Infused Seashelf.[3]
  3. "Upgraded Shelves" quest: asks for an upgraded Hellshelf (Blazing Hellshelf or Glowing Hellshelf) and an upgraded Seashelf (Crystalline Seashelf or Heart-Forged Seashelf). The target is 60 Eterna, 40 Quanta and 40 Arcana at the Ascent World Tier.[3]
  4. "Venturing Deeper" quest: asks for the Deepshelf plus one infused or special variant, such as the Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures. It needs the Summit World Tier and can push Eterna to a maximum of 75.[3]
  5. "Achieving Enlightenment" quest: asks for Infused Dragon's Breath. The quest says you need 80 Eterna, between 15 and 30 Quanta, and at least 60 Arcana.[3]
  6. "Endshelf" quest: asks for the Endshelf, the base shelf of the final tier.[3]
  7. "Level 100 Enchanting" quest: asks for the Draconic Endshelf and Pearlescent Endshelf. The Draconic Endshelf boosts Eterna by 20, for a maximum of 100.[3]

Two quests follow Level 100 Enchanting. "Library of Alexandria" quest asks for the Library of Alexandria, which stores enchantment values up to level 31. "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest asks for the Enchanting Table of the Raven (plus an Apotheosis God-Fused Pearl), a table where you set Eterna, Quanta and Arcana yourself.[3]

Branches off Hellshelf Infusion

Piña Colada chapter

The Piña Colada chapter is in the Main Questline group (chapter 6 of 31). Its "Sculk Powder" quest quest asks for a Warden Tendril, which you process in a Thermopneumatic Processing Plant using the Molten Hellforged fluid. It comes after the Molten Hellfire Bucket quest, and a quest in "Pina Colada" comes after it.[6]
