What is Rain Shield?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide

This pack includes Rain Shield at version 2.0.1, shipped as the file RainShield-1.21.1-2.0.1.jar.[1]

It is not a recent addition. It was first included in version 1.0.1 of the pack or earlier, so it has been on the mod list for a long time.[1]

Unverified The sources here do not show what Rain Shield does in practice, so this guide does not describe its behavior, items or settings. They also do not show where the pack's quest book places the mod, or whether the ATM Star path uses it. Check the quest book itself for that.

How do you get started with Rain Shield?

1 part

Getting started with this mod is simple: the recipe in the pack makes the Rain Shield, and it's a block you can place in the world.[2][3]

Craft the Rain Shield

The Rain Shield uses a shaped crafting recipe, so the ingredients have to go in the right pattern. The recipe dump lists it as a mod recipe, so it comes from the mod itself. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[2]

Rain ShieldMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped
Empty slotFlintEmpty slot
Empty slotany blaze rodEmpty slot
any netherrackany netherrackany netherrack

Recipe id: rainshield:rain_shield

This is a shaped crafting recipe, so follow the pattern shown.

Some of the ingredients are tags rather than single items. Any item in the netherracks tag and any item in the blaze rods tag will work, which gives you some flexibility with what you use.[2]

How does Rain Shield work?

2 parts

Rain Shield is a small mod that adds a single block, the Rain Shield. It has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling, so there is no automation setup to build around it.[2][3]

Crafting it

The Rain Shield is made in a crafting table with a shaped recipe. The pack uses the mod's own recipe and doesn't change it. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[2]

What isn't confirmed

Unverified The sources don't explain what the Rain Shield does once placed, its range, or whether it can be automated or configured. The pack has no config files for this mod and no guidebook text, so treat any behaviour beyond crafting and placing the block as unconfirmed.

How do you progress through Rain Shield?

1 part

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

The pack data shows Rain Shield with a single crafting recipe, and no further recipes that make Rain Shield items. That means there is no tier ladder to climb for this mod here, just one item you craft once you can gather what the recipe needs.[4]

How you get it

Rain Shield is made with a shaped crafting recipe. The block below shows the exact in-pack version.[4]

Rain ShieldMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped
Empty slotFlintEmpty slot
Empty slotany blaze rodEmpty slot
any netherrackany netherrackany netherrack

Recipe id: rainshield:rain_shield

The recipe takes entries from item tags, so more than one item can fill those slots.

Which Rain Shield config options matter?

1 part

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide

Rain Shield only has one option worth knowing about in this pack, and it lives in the client config. It is a client-side file, so it only affects what you see on your own screen.[5]

Rain Shield distance

General.rainShieldDistance sets the range in which the Rain Shield stops rain from rendering. This pack sets it to 80, which is the same as the mod default of 80, so nothing has been changed here. The value must be greater than 1.[5]

Tip: If you want a bigger or smaller dry area around your Rain Shield, edit this value in the client config. The pack's own value is 80, so that is what you get unless you change it yourself.[5]
