What is Ars Additions?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Ars Additions is an addon for Ars Nouveau that focuses on small tweaks and quality-of-life additions. This pack includes version 1.21.1-21.3.0. It doesn't overhaul Ars Nouveau. It adds handy extras around the edges, so it's aimed at players who are already into Ars magic and want less hassle.[1][2]

What it adds

  • Structures: Ruined Warp Portals, a Warp Portal variant of the Ruined Portals that includes an Explorer's Warp Scroll, and the Nexus Tower, a wizard tower for easier teleportation around your world.[1]
  • Glyphs: Retaliate (a Form that targets the entity that last hit you within the last 5 seconds), Mark (an Effect that stores a reference to a block or entity in a Reliquary), and Recall (a Form that casts a spell on a target stored in a Reliquary).[1]
  • Warp Index and Stabilized Warp Index: remote access to your Storage Lecterns. The upgraded versions allow cross-dimensional access.[1]
  • Ender Source Jar: an Ender Chest for Source. Leave one at your base to fill up, and carry another to reach that Source anywhere.[1]
  • Wixie Enchanting Apparatus: use a Wixie Charm on an Enchanting Apparatus to convert it, so you can automate Enchanting Apparatus recipes, including applying enchantments.[1]
  • Decoration: Ars-themed lanterns, Magelight lanterns and matching chains, Sourcestone walls, Cracked Sourcestone, and a painting called Snoozebuncle.[1]

Worth knowing

The mod also has Lost and Ancient Codex Entries, which teach a random glyph of their tier. By default, tier 1 drops in basic dungeon loot and higher tiers are unobtainable. The Ritual of Arcane Permanent can chunkload your surrounding area. It is fully configurable and disabled by default. Those are the mod's defaults, so check them in your own world before you rely on them.[1]

Unverified The sources don't confirm whether this pack changes any of the mod's recipes, configs or defaults. They also don't place the mod in any quest or on the ATM Star path, so where it fits in the pack's progression is unverified.

How do you get started with Ars Additions?

5 parts

Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon built around small tweaks and quality of life extras. Most of what it adds is made at the Enchanting Apparatus or in a normal crafting grid, so here is the order I would work through it.[1][3]

Step one: Advanced Dominion Wand

The Advanced Dominion Wand is an upgrade of the regular Dominion Wand, made at the Enchanting Apparatus. Its in-game messages talk about wanding several targets in one go.[3][4]

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Step two: Ender Source Jar

The Ender Source Jar works like an Ender Chest for Source. You leave one in your base to fill it with source and carry another to reach that source anywhere. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own version, so follow the one below.[1][3]

Step three: Warp Index

The Warp Index gives you remote access to your Storage Lecterns. The upgraded Stabilized Warp Index adds cross-dimensional access. You craft the first, then upgrade it with the second recipe.[1][3]

Step four: Mark and Recall

The Unstable Reliquary stores references to blocks, entities or players. You use it with the Glyph Mark and Glyph Recall glyphs. Mark stores the target in a Reliquary, and Recall casts a spell on whatever the Reliquary holds.[1][3][4]

Both glyphs are tier 3 and are not starter glyphs. Mark costs 25 and can appear once per spell, and Recall costs 50. These are the mod's default values, which the pack leaves unchanged.[5][6]

Glyph Retaliate is a tier 3 glyph too, with a cost of 25. It targets the entity that last hurt you, as long as the hit landed within the last 5 seconds.[4][7]

Watch out: The Ritual of Arcane Permanence, the chunk-loading ritual, has its default recipe turned off in this pack (see chunkloading.ritual_enabled). Don't plan a base around it.[1][8]

Structures to look out for

Ruined warp portals, nexus towers and arcane libraries are all enabled in this pack. The ruined portals include an Explorer's Warp Scroll to help you find new places, and the nexus tower is a wizard tower for easier teleporting around your world.[1][8][9]

How does Ars Additions work?

8 parts

Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon built around small tweaks and quality-of-life systems. Here is how the machine-like parts of it work in this pack: remote storage, Source storage, automation, spell targeting and chunkloading.[1]

Ender Source Jar

The Ender Source Jar is basically an Ender Chest for Source. You leave one in your base to fill it with Source, then carry another one with you to reach that Source anywhere.[1]

Warp Index and remote Storage Lecterns

The Warp Index gives you remote access to your Storage Lecterns. The Stabilized Warp Index is the upgraded version and works across dimensions. There is also a keybind called "Activate Warp Index" in the controls, so you can open it without clicking a lectern.[1][4]

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_additions:apparatus/stabilized_warp_index

Wixie Enchanting Apparatus

If you want to automate Enchanting Apparatus crafting, this is the block for it. You use a Wixie Charm on a normal Enchanting Apparatus to convert it into a Wixie Enchanting Apparatus. It can then automate Enchanting Apparatus recipes, including applying enchantments. It also supports a bound storage: the game confirms with "Storage bound" or "Storage removed" when you set or clear it.[1][4]

Mark, Recall and Retaliate glyphs

Mark is an effect that stores a reference to a block or entity in a Reliquary. Recall is a form that reads that reference back and casts the spell on the stored target. The Unstable Reliquary is the item used with both glyphs.[1][4]

Recall costs durability, and the cost depends on what you target. These values are the same as the mod defaults.[10]

In the glyph configs, Mark and Retaliate each cost 25 and Recall costs 50. All three are tier 3 and none is a starter glyph. Mark can appear only once per spell, set by general.per_spell_limit.[5][6][7]

Retaliate is a form that targets the last entity that damaged you, as long as the damage happened within the last 5 seconds.[1][4]

Ritual of Arcane Permanence (chunkloading)

This ritual force-loads the chunks around it as long as it gets a constant stream of Source. The pack turns its default recipe off with chunkloading.ritual_enabled.[4][8]

The pack's server config sets how the ritual behaves:[10]

Locating structures and warp structures

The Locate Structure ritual finds a nearby structure based on the augments you give it. Lookups run on an async thread pool of 1 thread (locator.threads), which the config says suits most users.[4][10]

Ruined Warp Portals include an Explorer's Warp Scroll, and the Nexus Tower is a wizard tower for easier teleporting around your world. The Warp Nexus block prompts you to store a Warp Scroll if you have no destinations yet. The pack has arcane libraries, nexus towers and ruined warp portals all enabled.[1][4][8][9]

Spacing and separation for these structures are set in the placement config. Ruined portals use a spacing of 40 and a separation of 15, nexus towers use 80 and 20, and arcane libraries use 50 and 25.[11]

Charging, scribing and wanding

Charms charge, and Imbued Spell Parchment scribes, faster when you add Source nearby. The game tells you this when the process starts.[4]

The Advanced Dominion Wand can link several targets in one use. It reports how many were wanded out of how many it found, and says if none of the blocks are wandable. There is also a shapeless recipe called clear_advanced_dominion_wand that takes the wand on its own and returns a wand.[3][4]

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_additions:apparatus/advanced_dominion_wand

Codex entries

A Codex Entry teaches a random glyph of its tier. The mod makes tier 1 obtainable from basic dungeon loot and leaves higher tiers unobtainable by default. In this pack, trade scripts offer a Codex Entry, a Lost Codex Entry and an Ancient Codex Entry for different payments.[1][4][12][13][14]

How do you progress through Ars Additions?

4 parts

Progression for Ars Additions here is shaped by its recipes and by a few trade lists the pack adds. The recipes fall into three groups: plain crafting and stonecutting, Enchanting Apparatus recipes, and items that upgrade earlier ones.[3][12]

Crafting table and stonecutter

The building set is the simplest tier, made at a crafting table or a stonecutter. It includes pieces like Sourcestone Door, Sourcestone Trapdoor and Sourcestone Chain. The cracked variants, such as Cracked Sourcestone, come from the stonecutter. The door recipe is shown below.[3]

Crafting Shaped

6 × Sourcestone

Recipe id: ars_additions:crafting/doors/sourcestone_door

One recipe in this group is changed by the pack: Polished Sourcestone Button. Check the recipe below rather than relying on what you remember from other packs.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

This recipe is marked as changed by the pack.

The lantern line belongs to this tier too, from Golden Lantern and Archwood Lantern up to the magelight versions like Magelight Lantern and Soul Magelight Lantern. The Wayfinder and the Handy Haversack are also made at a crafting table, and their recipes are shown below.[3]

The Enchanting Apparatus

Most of the mod's power items are Enchanting Apparatus recipes from Ars Nouveau. The charms are the clearest example, and each one is its own apparatus recipe:[3]

Recipe id: ars_additions:apparatus/fall_prevention_charm

Other Enchanting Apparatus results are Jar of Miner's Wisdom, Source Spawner, Unstable Reliquary, the Reach thread and the Advanced Dominion Wand. The Source Spawner and the wand recipes are shown below.[3]

Upgrades and the pack's changed apparatus recipe

The Warp Index is an apparatus recipe, and the Stabilized Warp Index is its upgrade, so you have to build the first before the second.[3]

Codex entries through trades

The pack's trade scripts also offer Ars Additions codex entries at different points. The general trade list offers Codex Entry in exchange for Whiff of Magic. The after-diamond list offers Lost Codex Entry for a Diamond. The after-netherite list offers Ancient Codex Entry for Conjuration Essence.[12][13][14]

How does Ars Additions work with other mods?

4 parts

Ars Additions is an addon for Ars Nouveau, so in this pack most of its crossovers are with Ars Nouveau. Its stone, lantern and apparatus recipes are built around Ars Nouveau items such as Sourcestone, Smooth Sourcestone and Source Gem. A few recipes and trades go further and pull in other mods, and those are the ones below.[1][3]

Ender Source Jar

The Ender Source Jar works like an Ender Chest for Source: you leave one in your base to fill up and carry another to reach that Source anywhere. The pack changed its Enchanting Apparatus recipe so it now needs Proto Chorus from Integrated Dynamics and Stable Ender Pearl from Irregular Implements, alongside vanilla ender items. This is the recipe as it works in this pack, not the mod default.[1][3]

Master Ninja Gear

The pack adds a Draconic Evolution fusion crafting recipe for Master Ninja Gear. It uses the Charm of Resonant Shield from this mod, plus Warden Tendril from Apothic Enchanting, the Shadow-Walker Mask from Iron's Spellbooks and the Spectre Boots from Irregular Implements.[3]

Polished Sourcestone Button

The pack also changed the crafting recipe for the Polished Sourcestone Button. It is built from Ars Nouveau's Smooth Sourcestone, and a stonecutter recipe turns the finished button back into that block.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: ars_additions:crafting/buttons/polished_sourcestone_button

Codex entries in the pack's trades

The mod page says the basic codex entry can be found in dungeon loot, while the higher tiers are unobtainable by default. This pack's trade scripts give you a way to get all three tiers, each paired with an item from another mod or vanilla:[1][12][13][14]

Which Ars Additions config options matter?

5 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Most of what you will want to know in this pack's Ars Additions setup is the chunkloading ritual, the Mark and Recall costs, the glyph settings and the structures. Wherever the config files list a mod default, the pack's value matches it. The one headline difference in behavior is that the ritual's default recipe is switched off.[15][16][17][18][19]

Chunkloading ritual

chunkloading.ritual_enabled is set to false, which turns off the default recipe for the Ritual of Arcane Permanent. The mod's project page describes this ritual as disabled by default, so the pack keeps that behavior rather than changing it.[1][15]

If the ritual does get enabled, these are the pack's server settings for it:[16]

Mark and Recall

Recall costs durability depending on what it targets. In this pack, mark_and_recall.cost_location is 50, mark_and_recall.cost_entity is 250 and mark_and_recall.cost_player is 1,000. All of these match the mod defaults.[16]

When Mark is cast on a player, the Marked effect lasts for the time set in mark_and_recall.effect_duration, which is 300 seconds here (also the mod default).[16]

Glyph settings

The Mark, Recall and Retaliate glyphs are all enabled, and none of them is a starter glyph. Each has its glyph tier set to 3, as in the mod defaults, and the costs and spell limits below also match the defaults.[17][18][19]

Structures

Arcane libraries, nexus towers and ruined warp portals are all switched on through structures.arcane_library_enabled, structures.nexus_tower_enabled and structures.ruined_warp_portals_enabled. The separate structure toggle file also has the arcane library, nexus tower, ruined portal and large ruined portal all set to true.[15][20]

For placement, the pack uses a spacing of 50 and separation of 25 for the arcane library, 80 and 20 for the nexus tower, and 40 and 15 for the ruined portal.[21]

Locator threads

locator.threads is 1, the mod default. The config notes say to raise it only if simultaneous location lookups cause issues and your hardware can handle extra threads.[16]
