What is Farmer's Delight?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Farmer's Delight is a cozy expansion to farming and cooking. With a simple cooking system and familiar ingredients, you prepare a wide variety of hearty meals, from sandwiches and stews to desserts and big feasts. It also adds utilities like a way to improve the soil your crops grow in, new tools and weapons, and decorations for your builds.[1]

This pack includes version 1.3.4 of the mod (the 1.21.1 build).[2]

Getting started

The mod's own advancements explain many of the basic concepts, so they are a good first stop. Pick up any item, then press L (the default key) to open the Advancements screen.[1]

Where it fits in the pack's quests

The pack's quest book puts the mod in the "cooking_and_brewing" chapter. Several quests there have nothing before them: the Cooking Pot, the Cutting Board, the Pie Crust, and the crops Cabbage, Onion and Tomato. The rest of the chapter follows from the cooking pot, cutting board and pie crust quests:[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show whether the ATM Star path uses this mod. Check the pack's quest book to see how these cooking quests connect to the rest of the progression.

How do you get started with Farmer's Delight?

5 parts

Welcome to the kitchen! Farmer's Delight is about farming and cooking, and in this pack the quest chapter called cooking_and_brewing walks you through it. It opens with quests for a Cutting Board, a Cooking Pot, a Pie Crust, and your first Cabbage, Onion and Tomato. Here's the order I'd tackle them in, and why.[1][4]

Tip: The mod's own advice is to follow its advancements. Pick up any item, then press L (the default key) to open the Advancements screen. They explain many of the basic concepts.[1]

First: the Cutting Board

Start with the Cutting Board (a quest in "?"). With a tool in hand, you use the board to break an item down. It unlocks the meat quests that come after it: Cooked Chicken Cuts and Beef Patty.[4][5]

The board also processes wild crops. Cutting a Wild Onion with a knife gives you an Onion, and cutting a Tomato Shrub gives you a Tomato plus Tomato Seeds.[6]

Next: the Cooking Pot

Next is the Cooking Pot (a quest in "?"), the heart of the mod's cooking. These quests unlock once you have it: Stuffed Pumpkin, Pasta with Meatballs and Apple Cider.[4]

Then: your first crops

The chapter then asks for Cabbage (a quest in "?"), Onion (a quest in "?") and Tomato (a quest in "?"). You can find them growing wild. Onions turn up in temperate lands such as plains and forests, tomatoes in arid lands such as savannas and deserts, and cabbages on beach coasts.[4][5]

For a steady supply, the pack adds cloche recipes that grow these crops from Cabbage Seeds, Tomato Seeds or an onion, with plain dirt as the soil. Rich Soil and several other soils work too.[6]

Finally: the Pie Crust

Finally, make a Pie Crust (a quest in "?"). It unlocks the dessert quests for Apple Pie, Chocolate Pie and Sweet Berry Cheesecake.[4]

How does Farmer's Delight work?

8 parts

Farmer's Delight is a cozy expansion to farming and cooking, and its systems are hands-on. Here's how the main ones work in this pack: the Cooking Pot, the Cutting Board, Rich Soil, rope for tall crops, and the vanilla food tweaks.[1]

Cooking Pot

The Cooking Pot is where you prepare meals. Meals made in it show a tooltip telling you how many servings they hold. The pack leaves the Recipe Book on the pot's interface enabled via recipe_book.enableRecipeBookCookingPot.[5][7]

Cutting Board

Hold a tool and use it on a Cutting Board to break an item down. In this pack a Dispenser can also operate a board in front of it, because overrides.dispenserUsesToolsOnCuttingBoard is on.[5][7]

Fortune adds a bonus to Cutting Board chances. Each level grants 0.1 through settings.cuttingBoardFortuneBonus, which is the mod default, so the pack hasn't changed it.[7]

Knives and Straw

A Knife is a lightweight melee weapon with fast swings and gentle damage. It harvests Straw from grasses and guarantees secondary drops from animals. You can also use a Knife on Pigs or Hoglins to get Ham.[5]

Straw is a dry plant fiber used in crafting. Harvest grass, wheat or rice with a Knife to collect it.[5]

Organic Compost and Rich Soil

Organic Compost slowly decays into Rich Soil, an upgrade for your farms. It composts better with sun, water and mushrooms. The in-game recipe viewer says the decomposition is sped up by adjacent water and by adjacent activators.[5]

The pack also has a recipe that makes compost using bark.[6]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: arsdelight:organic_compost_from_tree_bark

This recipe comes from the arsdelight namespace rather than the base mod.

Rich Soil boosts a plant's growth on random ticks. The chance is 0.2 per tick via settings.richSoilBoostChance, the same as the mod default. Mushroom Colonies need very rich soil to grow, and you shear them when fully mature.[5][7]

Rope and Tomato Vines

Hang rope above a tomato crop to make it grow taller. When you mine a Tomato Vine by hand, it leaves behind the rope set in farming.defaultTomatoVineRope, which is farmersdelight:rope in this pack.[5][7]

Watch out: Tomato vines can climb any rope tagged as farmersdelight:ropes, and this is enabled in the pack. The config warns that this converts those blocks into the default rope block.[7]

Rope reeling is also on: sneak-use with an empty hand to reel rope back in from bottom to top.[7]

Skillet and Campfire

The Skillet lets you cook on the go: stand near heat and hold the food in your other hand. You can also sneak to place it down as a block. A Campfire works for cooking food too.[5]

Meals, Effects and Soups

Two effects are worth knowing. Comfort provides natural regeneration regardless of how hungry you are. Nourishment prevents hunger loss, except when using saturation to heal damage. The pack keeps the client overlays for both enabled, plus the effect tooltips on meals and drinks.[5][8]

Crates and Dough

Crate recipes are enabled for vanilla crops, as well as the mod's own. A Cabbage Crate can be crafted from cabbages and unpacked again.[6][7]

How do you progress through Farmer's Delight?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Farmer's Delight progression in this pack lives in the cooking_and_brewing quest chapter. It's a small, friendly tree: six starter quests with no prerequisites, and three short branches of dishes that unlock after them. The quests have no titles in the pack files, so I'll point you to them by the item each one asks for.[3]

Starting quests

Six quests are open from the start: a quest in "?" (the Cutting Board), a quest in "?" (the Cooking Pot), a quest in "?" (the Pie Crust), and one each for the crops Cabbage (a quest in "?"), Onion (a quest in "?") and Tomato (a quest in "?").[3]

Tier 1: Cutting Board, Cooking Pot and Pie Crust

These three quests are the roots of the dish branches below. Here is how each item is crafted in the pack.[3][9]

Tip: The pack lists a Mekanism sawing recipe, marked as changed by the pack, that turns cooked chicken into Cooked Chicken Cuts plus bone meal. That gives you a machine route to the chicken quest.[9]

Automating the crops

The crop quests aren't locked behind anything, and the pack adds Cloche recipes for cabbage, onion and tomato. Each works on plain dirt, on Rich Soil, on four tiers of Just Dire Things soil (Primogel, Blazebloom, VoidShimmer and Shadowpulse), and on six tiers of Mystical Agriculture farmland: Inferium, Prudentium, Tertium, Imperium, Supremium and Insanium. Cabbage and tomato use their seeds, while the onion recipe takes an onion itself.[9]

You can also skip the planting for onions. The pack has a Farming for Blockheads market entry for Onion that has no item inputs, and onion and tomato crates can be crafted back into single items.[9]

How does Farmer's Delight work with other mods?

5 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Farmer's Delight doesn't live on its own in this pack. Its items show up in Create, Immersive Engineering, Mystical Agriculture and Ars Nouveau recipes, and the pack adds or changes a lot of them. Here's where the connections are.[9]

Create

The Create mixer can make Pie Crust, and the pack changed that recipe. Pie Crust is also the base of every pie, so this is a handy automation step.[9]

Pie CrustChanged by the pack

The pack also added a shapeless crafting recipe for Wheat Dough that uses Create's Wheat Flour.[9]

Create's saw also gives you Tree Bark. The pack adds cutting recipes that turn logs and wood into their stripped versions and also produce Tree Bark. These cover logs from Ars Nouveau, Ars Elemental, Chipped, Enchanted, Integrated Dynamics, Malum, Occultism, Roots and Silent Gear. Here is the Runewood one as an example.[9]

Create Sifter

Immersive Engineering

The Immersive Engineering cloche is where Farmer's Delight really shows up. The pack adds cloche recipes that use Rich Soil as the soil for crops from other mods. These include Mystical Agriculture seeds that become essences, Roots' Aubergine Seeds, Enchanted's Belladonna Seeds, and Actually Additions' Canola Seeds and Coffee Beans. They also include the Ars Nouveau pods Bastion Fruit and Bombegranate.[9]

Going the other way, Cabbage can be grown in the cloche on other mods' soils. These are Just Dire Things' goo soils such as Primogel Soil, and Mystical Agriculture farmlands from Inferium Farmland up to Supremium Farmland. Insanium Farmland works too.[9]

Quests

The Cooking and Brewing quests I could see ask only for Farmer's Delight items. The Pie Crust quest a quest in "?" unlocks the Apple Pie, Chocolate Pie and Sweet Berry Cheesecake quests. So the cross-mod side of Farmer's Delight comes from the recipes above, not from quests.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Farmer's Delight?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

In this pack, Farmer's Delight shows up in one quest chapter: cooking_and_brewing. Every quest in it is an item task for a Farmer's Delight item, and the quests have no titles, so this section refers to them by quest ID. They form three small chains plus three standalone crop quests.[3]

Starter quests

Six quests have no prerequisite, so you can start any of them right away. Three of them are crops: a quest in "?" asks for Cabbage, a quest in "?" asks for Onion, and a quest in "?" asks for Tomato. Nothing in the chapter is unlocked by these three.[3]

The other three starters each open a chain: a quest in "?" asks for the Cooking Pot, a quest in "?" asks for the Pie Crust, and a quest in "?" asks for the Cutting Board.[3]

Cooking Pot chain

Once a quest in "?" is done, three quests unlock side by side. a quest in "?" asks for the Stuffed Pumpkin, a quest in "?" asks for Pasta with Meatballs, and a quest in "?" asks for Apple Cider. They all depend only on the Cooking Pot quest, so you can take them in any order.[3]

Pie Crust chain

Finishing a quest in "?" unlocks three dessert quests, again side by side: a quest in "?" for the Apple Pie, a quest in "?" for the Chocolate Pie, and a quest in "?" for the Sweet Berry Cheesecake.[3]

Cutting Board chain

After a quest in "?", this chain splits into two short branches, each two quests long.[3]

  1. Chicken branch: a quest in "?" asks for Cooked Chicken Cuts, which then unlocks a quest in "?" for the Chicken Sandwich.[3]
  2. Beef branch: a quest in "?" asks for Beef Patty, which then unlocks a quest in "?" for the Hamburger.[3]

Which Farmer's Delight config options matter?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Farmer's Delight splits its settings into two files: a client file for the HUD and tooltip touches, and a common file for gameplay, worldgen and vanilla overrides. Here's what this pack actually sets, so you know what to expect before you start tweaking.[10][11]

Client: overlays and tooltips

These three are client-side only, so you can turn any of them off for yourself without touching a server or breaking anything for other players.[10]

Vanilla overrides you'll notice

Gameplay settings

Trading and worldgen

Wild crop patches each have their own chance value, where a smaller number means more frequent generation. The pack keeps the mod defaults: 20 for wild rice, 30 for wild cabbages and wild beetroots, 100 for wild tomatoes and wild potatoes, and 120 for wild carrots and wild onions. Mushroom colonies on mushroom fields are enabled at a chance of 15 for both brown and red.[11]

Tip: If wild crops feel too rare for your world, lower the chance number rather than raising it, a smaller value generates clusters more often.[11]

Ropes and tomato vines

farming.enableTomatoVineClimbingTaggedRopes is on, so tomato vines can climb any rope tagged as a Farmer's Delight rope. Be aware that this converts those blocks into the rope set by farming.defaultTomatoVineRope, which the pack leaves as the mod's own Rope, so a fancy modded rope may come back as a plain one when mined by hand.[11]

What changed in Farmer's Delight between versions?

4 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.15.0 ships Farmer's Delight 1.2.11a, the 1.21.1 build of the mod. The pack has included the mod since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs for 1.2.8 up to the version you are playing.[12][13]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Farmer's Delight were available, so any pack-specific changes to the mod are unverified.

1.2.8

  • Wheat Dough got a simpler recipe using a Water Bucket. The bucket's water is not used up, so you can craft dough indefinitely, and the egg recipe is still there so auto-crafting setups don't break.[13]
  • New item tags: meals, drinks and feasts. Feasts covers the full forms, while their portions sit in meals.[13]
  • The Cooking Pot now always cools down when a recipe becomes invalid mid-cooking, instead of sometimes losing all progress.[13]
  • Fixes include Rich Soil negating fall damage on 1.21.1, Knives with Silk Touch slicing Pumpkin blocks, and Tomato budding bushes having planting rules hardcoded to vanilla farmland.[13]

1.2.9

  • Rich Soil Farmland can now be hydrated by any fluid type capable of hydration.[14]
  • Wild Cabbage and Sea Beet can now generate in any biome tagged minecraft:is_beach.[14]
  • Fixed the Cooking Pot allowing players to cook and store up to 99 servings.[14]
  • Fixed Rabbit Stew not returning bowls after being eaten, and fixed Create milling recipes that never finished processing.[14]
  • The Cooking Pot crashed when opened in spectator mode. As a temporary fix, access is now disabled in that mode.[14]

1.2.10

  • Villagers can now consume Farmer's Delight crops to become willing to breed.[15]
  • New tags: farmersdelight:snacks for non-sweet multi-ingredient foods that need no containers, and farmersdelight:sweets for desserts and similar foods.[15]
  • c:foods/milk is being phased out in favor of c:drinks/milk, which all of the mod's recipes now use. The old tag was kept for backwards compatibility, and the changelog says it will be removed in the next minor release.[15]
  • Fixed the foodEffectTooltip config not affecting the tooltip of vanilla foods with Farmer's Delight effect overrides.[15]
  • Fixed non-contained meals such as Dumplings being deleted when sitting on the meal slot and you used the same meal on the pot to serve it.[15]
  • Fixed the Create spouting recipe for Chocolate Pie to use the correct fluid tag.[15]

1.2.11a

This is the version in the pack. It has a single fix: block entities now clear properly on contraption mods.[12][16]
