What is Farming for Blockheads?

Farming for Blockheads is part of this pack, which ships version 21.1.13 of the mod (the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1).[1]

The pack's questbook points you at the Market. A quest in the cooking_and_brewing chapter, "The Market" quest, has the Market as its task. So the mod sits alongside the cooking and brewing part of the pack's progression, and the Market is the item to look for first.[2]

Tip: If you want to find where the mod comes into your progression, open the cooking_and_brewing chapter in the questbook and look for the quest that asks for the Market.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what the Market does in this pack, how it is crafted, or whether the pack changed any of the mod's recipes or configs. This overview doesn't cover those, so check them in game before relying on them.

How do you get started with Farming for Blockheads?

3 parts

The first thing to make is the Market. The pack's quest book agrees: "The Market" quest sits in the cooking_and_brewing chapter, and its task is to get a Market.[2]

The Market also trades Green Fertilizer, Red Fertilizer and Yellow Fertilizer, so you can get fertilizer there as well as crafting it. The Market trades are shown next to each crafting recipe below.[3]

Pick your fertilizer

Green Fertilizer gives a chance of a bonus crop, so it increases crop output. Red Fertilizer gives a chance of bonus growth. Fertilized Farmland can turn back into regular Farmland each time it provides a bonus, so expect to reapply fertilizer.[4]

The pack changed the crafting recipes for Green Fertilizer and Red Fertilizer, so don't rely on what you remember from other packs. Yellow Fertilizer uses the mod's own recipe.[3]

        Automate your animals

Once your crops are sorted, move on to livestock. The Chicken Nest collects eggs laid by chickens, and the range it picks them up from is configurable.[3][4]

The Feeding Trough auto-feeds nearby animals that are ready to mate. It has a configurable range and a cap on how many animals of each type it feeds, and it stops feeding once that cap is reached.[3][4]

Tip: A good order: Market first, then fertilizer for your crops, then the Chicken Nest and Feeding Trough once you have animals.[2][3][4]

How does Farming for Blockheads work?

        4 parts

Farming for Blockheads is a set of single-block helpers for animals, crops and trading. The sources show no power, fluid or multiblock systems for it, so the mechanics here come down to range, feeding limits, fertilizer chances and the market.[4]

        Chicken Nest

The Chicken Nest collects eggs laid by chickens. It picks up laid eggs within a set range, and the mod exposes that range as a setting.[4]

        Recipe id: farmingforblockheads:chicken_nest

        Feeding Trough

The Feeding Trough auto-feeds nearby animals that are ready to mate. It only feeds animals within its range, and it stops feeding once a maximum number of animals is reached. That cap is counted per animal type, so a crowd of one species will not stop the trough from feeding another.[4]

        Recipe id: farmingforblockheads:feeding_trough

        Fertilizers

The fertilizer bonuses are chance-based, and each fertilizer has its own bonus.[4]

Fertilized Farmland does not last forever. For each bonus it provides, there is a chance it turns back into regular Farmland, so expect to re-fertilize over time.[4]

The pack changed the crafting recipes for green and red fertilizer. Yellow fertilizer uses the mod's own recipe.[3]

        Market

The Market is the trading block of the mod. The pack has market recipes for green, red and yellow fertilizer, so you can get them there as well as by crafting.[3]

The market's offers are organised into groups. The inbuilt defaults are selling.seeds, selling.saplings and selling.fertilizers.minecraft. A group can be excluded in the settings: for example, excluding selling.seeds removes all seeds from the market, and exclusions take precedence over inclusions.[4]

The mod also has a merchant with a configurable list of possible names. An option can treat merchants like babies (on a technical level only), which may resolve exploits based on merchant death loot.[4]

Unverified The default and in-pack values for the chicken nest range, feeding trough range and animal cap, and the fertilizer chances are not shown in the sources here. The pack provides no config file for this mod to check them against.

How do you progress through Farming for Blockheads?

        3 parts

Farming for Blockheads has no strict tier ladder in this pack. Everything starts with the Market, and the other items are crafted when you need them. The pack's quest for this mod sits in the cooking and brewing chapter.[2][3]

        The Market

The quest "The Market" quest is untitled, and its task is to obtain a Market. It is the only quest for this mod in the quest sources. The Market uses the mod's own recipe.[2][3]

The Chicken Nest and the Feeding Trough both use the mod's own recipes in this pack. The quest sources show no quest for crafting them.[2][3]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Farming for Blockheads?

Farming for Blockheads shows up in just one quest chapter in this pack: "cooking_and_brewing". There's a single quest there that involves the mod, so this is a short section.[2]

The quest is "The Market" quest, and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is simply to have the Market item.[2]

Unverified The sources don't show where this quest sits in the chapter's order, what it requires first, or what reward it gives, so those details are unconfirmed.
