What is Chipped?
2 parts
Chipped is a building mod that gives you a huge range of decorative block variants. The project page advertises over 11,000 unique building blocks, from stained glass variations to concrete, prismarine and gilded blackstone. The textures are hand-made in the vanilla style, and many of them are connected textures powered by Athena.[1]
If you've ever used Chisel, you'll get the idea straight away. Chipped is inspired by it and is built for anyone who wants more variety in their builds, whether that's a castle, a nether fortress or a plain dirt house.[1]
How you use it
You start by crafting one of the seven tables, which turn various vanilla blocks into their chipped variants. The tables all look different but work the same way, so pick whichever suits your build, or make a few different ones and spread them around your base.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Chipped 4.0.2, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]
Unverified The sources I have don't show where Chipped fits in the pack's progression, and they don't show any recipe changes. Check the recipes in-game before you plan around them. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you get started with Chipped?
3 parts
Chipped is a building mod, and getting started is simple: you craft one of its seven tables, and from there you can turn vanilla blocks into their chipped variants. All the tables look different but work the same way, so pick the one you like best, or make a few and spread them around your base.[1]
First, make a table
The seven tables are the Mason Table, Carpenters Table, Tinkering Table, Glassblower, Alchemy Bench, Botanist Workbench and Loom Table. Heads up: this pack changed the recipes for the Mason Table, Carpenters Table, Tinkering Table and Glassblower, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. The Alchemy Bench, Botanist Workbench and Loom Table use the mod's own recipes.[1][3]

Then craft the tools
Each table is also an ingredient for a matching item, so once you have a table you can make its companion right away. The Chisel comes from the Mason Table, and the Saw comes from the Carpenters Table. The pack changed both of these recipes.[3]

The other tables work the same way and use the mod's own recipes: the Multimeter from the Tinkering Table, the Needles from the Loom Table, the Watering Can from the Botanist Workbench, and the Alchemy Book from the Alchemy Bench.[3]
Pack extras with Create
Once you have Create machines running, the pack adds a few Chipped recipes of its own. Sandpaper polishing turns Crying Obsidian into Polished Crying Obsidian and Mud Bricks into Polished Mud Bricks.[3]

The pack also adds Create cutting recipes for Chipped wood. Reinforced logs can be cut into their stripped versions, and that cut also gives you Tree Bark. Nailed and smooth plank blocks have cutting recipes too.[3]

Oak is the example here. The other reinforced log types have matching recipes added by the pack.
How does Chipped work?
4 parts
Chipped is a building mod, so its core mechanics are simpler than a tech mod's. You craft a table, use it to turn vanilla blocks into their chipped variants, and place the results. The mod offers over 11,000 unique building blocks. The sources here don't describe any power, fluid, multiblock or item automation systems for it, so I won't make any up.[1]
The tables
The mod has seven tables. They all look different but work the same, so you can pick whichever suits your build, or make a few and spread them around your base.[1]
The Alchemy Bench, Botanist Workbench and Loom Table use the mod's own recipes. The pack changed the recipes for the Carpenters Table, Glassblower and Mason Table, and those three are shown below.[3]

Tools made from tables
Some tables are also the starting point for a related tool. Each of these is a shapeless crafting recipe that takes the table itself plus one extra item. The pack changed the recipes for the Chisel (from the Mason Table) and the Saw (from the Carpenters Table). The Needles (from the Loom Table), Multimeter (from the Tinkering Table) and Alchemy Book (from the Alchemy Bench) are the mod's own recipes.[3]

Create automation hooks
The pack adds Create cutting recipes for Chipped wood blocks. 12 of the pack's cutting recipes take Create-side inputs and make Chipped items. One example turns a group of nailed acacia blocks (a tag) into 6 Nailed Acacia Planks. The recipe dump shows the same pattern for birch, cherry and crimson.[3]
Cutting (create)

Recipe id: create:cutting/runtime_generated/compat/create/tag_runtime_generated/compat/chipped/nailed_acacia_to_nailed_acacia_planks
The pack also adds cutting recipes that strip Chipped's reinforced logs. Cutting a Reinforced Acacia Log gives a Reinforced Stripped Acacia Log plus Tree Bark. Birch and cherry work the same way, and 8 of these Chipped-to-Chipped cutting recipes exist in total.[3]

Recipe id: create:cutting/runtime_generated/compat/chipped/reinforced_acacia_log_to_reinforced_stripped_acacia_log
Two Chipped blocks can also be polished with sandpaper: Crying Obsidian becomes Polished Crying Obsidian, and Mud Bricks become Polished Mud Bricks. The pack added both recipes.[3]

A pack change that touches Create
The pack changes Create's two Andesite Alloy crafting recipes so they accept the Chipped andesite tag instead of only vanilla andesite.[4]
How do you progress through Chipped?
3 parts
In this pack the Chipped path is a short ladder: craft a workbench, use it to make its matching tool, then use the Create recipes the pack adds for a few extra blocks. The pack changed several of these recipes, so the recipe blocks below are the ones to trust, not the mod's defaults.[3]
Unverified The sources here show no quests that involve Chipped, so they do not say where the pack's quest book wants you to pick it up. Check the quest book in the game if you want to be sure.
The workbenches
Everything starts with a workbench: Mason Table, Carpenters Table, Tinkering Table, Glassblower, Loom Table, Botanist Workbench and Alchemy Bench.[3]

Create processing for extra blocks
The pack adds Create cutting recipes for some Chipped blocks. Cutting a reinforced log gives you its stripped version and also Tree Bark. This covers the Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, Dark Oak, Mangrove and Cherry variants, such as Reinforced Oak Log into Reinforced Stripped Oak Log.[3]

How does Chipped work with other mods?
3 parts
Chipped is mainly a building mod: you craft one of its seven tables and use it to turn vanilla blocks into decorative variants. In this pack it also plugs into a few other mods through recipes the pack added or changed. I found no quests that involve Chipped, so everything below comes from recipes.[1][3]
Sophisticated Backpacks and Sophisticated Storage
Each Chipped table has a matching upgrade for both Sophisticated Backpacks and Sophisticated Storage. That lets you carry a table's crafting interface in your backpack, or build it into a storage block, instead of placing the table down. The pack changed every one of these recipes, so they may not match what you remember from the mods' defaults.[3]
- Alchemy Bench gives you Chipped: Alchemy Bench Upgrade and Chipped: Alchemy Bench Upgrade.[3]
- Botanist Workbench gives you Chipped: Botanist's Workbench Upgrade and Chipped: Botanist's Workbench Upgrade.[3]
- Carpenters Table gives you Chipped: Carpenters Workbench Upgrade and Chipped: Carpenters Workbench Upgrade.[3]
- Glassblower gives you Chipped: Glassblower Upgrade and Chipped: Glassblower Upgrade.[3]
- Loom Table gives you Chipped: Loom Table Upgrade and Chipped: Loom Table Upgrade.[3]
- Mason Table gives you Chipped: Mason Table Upgrade and Chipped: Mason Table Upgrade.[3]
- Tinkering Table gives you Chipped: Tinkering Table Upgrade and Chipped: Tinkering Table Upgrade.[3]
Here is the backpack version for the Alchemy Bench. The other tables follow the same pattern, and the storage versions work the same way.[3]

Mekanism: leaves into Bio Fuel
The pack added Mekanism crushing recipes that turn Chipped's decorative leaf blocks into Bio Fuel. This covers the apple, cherry, dead, frosted, golden, golden apple, golden cherry, magenta flower, orange, red and white flower leaf variants, across the different tree types. Examples are Dead Oak Leaves and Frosted Spruce Leaves. If you have spare Chipped leaves lying around, this gives them a use.[3]
Create and Farmer's Delight: stripping reinforced logs
The pack also added Create cutting recipes for Chipped's reinforced logs. Cutting a log such as Reinforced Oak Log gives you the stripped version, Reinforced Stripped Oak Log, plus a bonus Tree Bark from Farmer's Delight. There is one such recipe for each reinforced log type, including Reinforced Cherry Log and Reinforced Mangrove Log.[3]

What changed in Chipped between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Chipped 4.0.2. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so it has been around for a long time.[2]
What changed in Chipped 4.0.2
- A bug with crafting was fixed.[5]
- A new JEI feature was added, credited to mezz in the mod's changelog.[5]
- Automatic REI grouping was added. This only matters if you run REI, since the pack uses JEI by default (unverified), so you probably won't see it.[5]
The pack's own changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there are no pack-specific changes to Chipped to report. Anything else about how the mod's version differed in earlier pack releases is unverified.[2][5]
