What is Productive Trees?
2 parts
Productive Trees is all about breeding trees. This pack ships version 26.1.2-1.2.1, and the mod adds 159 trees. You can look up every tree, and which ones breed together, in JEI.[1][2]
It's a good fit if you like bees and tinkering with genetics-style breeding. The basic idea is to put one tree next to another near some bees and let them do the work.[3]
How you get new trees
- With bees: the leaves of both trees must be within 4 blocks of the bee nest or hive, and the bees need flowers nearby. Each trip from the flower to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf. A spyglass helps you spot which leaves got pollinated.[3]
- By hand: collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter to extract pollen. Use the pollen on a leaf to pollinate it and get a new tree species. Check JEI to see which pollen goes on which leaves.[3][4][5]
If you use Productive Bees, the Pollen Sieve Upgrade goes into an advanced beehive so the bees collect pollen from nearby trees for you. Range upgrades widen the collection area, and extra sieve upgrades won't increase the yield. For the hive's working area, the base range is 4 and each range upgrade adds 2 blocks.[3][6]
Extras
Trees also give you some side products. Maple sap can be extracted from Sugar Maple trees and turned into Maple Syrup. The stripper takes the bark off wood and needs an axe to operate.[7][8]
The mod has compatibility with Tree Tap for extra tree products. However, the in-game guide entry for it says Tree Tap isn't installed, so don't count on those extras.[9][10]
Unverified The sources don't show where Productive Trees fits in the pack's progression. It is not on the ATM Star quest path, and no quests in this pack involve it, so treat it as an optional side system.
How do you get started with Productive Trees?
2 parts
Productive Trees is about breeding trees. The mod's own guide sums up the basic idea: put one tree next to another tree near some bees, and you get a new species. It also warns that the mod is in beta and not feature complete, and that the growth features (how trees look when grown) are still under development.[3]
There are 159 trees, so the guide doesn't list them. Use JEI to look up which trees breed together and any other recipe for this mod.[2]
Your first steps
- Get a couple of different saplings to start with. Some of the rare ones are hidden in loot: Black Ember saplings in Nether bastion treasure chests, Blue Yonder saplings in sunken galleon chests, Flickering Sun saplings in desert temple treasure rooms, Firecracker saplings in ancient cities, and Soul Tree saplings in End cities.[11]
- Plant two different trees close together and open JEI to see which pairs breed into a new species. Don't guess, because the guide points you to JEI for this.[2][5]
- For the bee method, keep the leaves of both trees within 4 blocks of the beenest or hive, and make sure the bees have flowers nearby. Each trip from the flower to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf.[3]
- If you want a bigger working area, add range upgrades to the hive. Each one adds 2 blocks, on top of the base range of 4.[3]
- Pollen is the manual route. Collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter to get pollen, then use the pollen on a leaf to pollinate it and get a new tree species.[3][4][5]
Letting the bees do the sifting
If you already run Productive Bees, you can install the pollen sieve upgrade in an advanced beehive. The bees will then collect pollen from nearby trees, and the collection area is affected by range upgrades. Installing more than one sieve upgrade does not increase the yield.[6]
Pollen from bees works the same way as sifter pollen: you use it on a leaf to pollinate it manually. Check JEI to see which pollen goes on which leaves.[5][11]
Unverified The in-pack crafting recipe for the pollen sifter isn't shown in the material this guide was built from. Look it up in JEI before you plan your first setup. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How does Productive Trees work?
7 parts
Productive Trees is mostly about breeding. You get new tree species by pollinating the leaves of one tree with pollen from another. The mod has 159 trees, and the in-mod guide sends you to JEI to see which trees breed together and what the other recipes are.[2][3]
The mod is in beta and not feature complete, and the guide says the growth features, meaning how the trees look when grown, are still under development.[3]
Breeding with bees
The hands-off method is to put one tree next to another near some bees. The leaves of both trees must be within 4 blocks of the nest or hive, and the bees need flowers nearby. Every trip from the flower to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf.[3]
A spyglass helps you spot which leaves have been pollinated.[3]
The guide gives the hive's base range as 4. Each range upgrade adds 2 blocks to the working area. It also says the hive can be simulated.[3]
Breeding by hand with pollen
If you'd rather skip the bees, collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter, which extracts pollen from leaves. Use the resulting pollen on a leaf to pollinate it manually and get a new tree species.[3][4][11]
Pollen collected by bees works the same way. Check JEI to see which trees breed together, so you know which pollen goes on which leaves.[5]
Pollen Sieve Upgrade
The Pollen Sieve Upgrade goes into an advanced beehive from Productive Bees. With it installed, the bees collect pollen from nearby trees, and some of the pollen they collect is sifted and deposited in the hive. Range upgrades affect the collection area. More than one sieve upgrade does not increase the yield, so one is enough.[6][11]
The mod also adds an Allergy Bee ingredient for Productive Bees. Its tooltip says the bee puts in an extra effort to collect pollen so allergies don't act up while working with trees. The sources don't say how it is obtained or how much it improves collection.[11]
Machines and their upgrades
The sources describe upgrades for the pollen sifter, the sawmill and the stripper. The stripper takes the bark off wood, leaving it stripped, and it requires an axe to operate.[4][7][11]
- Pollen sifter and sawmill: the time upgrade can be installed in the machine for faster processing, and multiple upgrades give a greater time decrease.[11]
- Stripper: each upgrade increases the number of items processed per operation by 4, and multiple upgrades can be installed.[11]
- Each of these machines also has a second upgrade, described as twice as good as the other one.[11]
The sources don't go into what the sawmill produces or how to automate these machines, so check JEI for the exact recipes.[2]
Tree products and Tree Tap
The mod has compatibility with the Tree Tap mod, which opens up some additional tree products to be extracted. The guide says maple sap can be extracted from Sugar Maple trees and makes Maple Syrup. It also has a Date Palm Juice entry, noting that Date Palm has great juicy trunks.[8][9][12]
Crates
Fruits and nuts can be packed into crates and unpacked again. For example, Almond packs into a Crate of Almonds. The pack has a packing recipe and an unpacking recipe for crates like this one, shown below for almonds.[13]

Minimal mode in this pack
This pack sets General.minimal to true. Stairs, slabs, fences, fence gates, pressure plates, buttons, doors, trapdoors, bookshelves and signs are not registered for each tree. Logs, wood, planks, leaves, saplings and fruit are always registered. This greatly reduces the number of registered blockstates and lowers RAM usage.[14]
How do you progress through Productive Trees?
4 parts
Progression with this mod is built around breeding rather than a ladder of tiers. You cross trees to get new species, and the mod has 159 trees in total. JEI is the place to look up which ones breed together.[2][3]
Unverified No quests in this pack involve Productive Trees, and the mod is not on the ATM Star quest path, so the sources here show no quest-guided order for it.
The breeding path
- Plant one tree next to another tree near some bees. That is the basic loop for getting new species.[3]
- Make sure the leaves of the two trees you want to cross are within 4 blocks of the nest or hive, and that the bees have flowers nearby. Each trip from a flower to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf.[3]
- Use a spyglass to spot which leaves have been pollinated.[3]
- Prefer to do it by hand? Collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter to extract pollen. Then use the pollen on a leaf to pollinate it and get a new tree species.[3][4][5]
- Check JEI to see which trees breed together, so you know which pollen to use on which leaves.[2][5]
Scaling up with bees
The hive can be simulated, and the base range is 4. Each range upgrade increases the working area by 2 blocks, so upgrades let one hive cover more leaves.[3]
The Pollen Sieve Upgrade goes into an advanced beehive from Productive Bees and makes the bees collect pollen from nearby trees. Its collection area is affected by range upgrades. Installing more than one sieve upgrade doesn't increase the yield.[6]
Fruit crates
Many of the mod's fruits and nuts have a matching crate, such as the Crate of Almonds, plus an unpack recipe that turns a crate back into the fruit, such as Almond. Crates are handy for storing harvests.[13]

Tree Tap extras
The mod is compatible with Tree Tap, which opens up some extra tree products to extract. The in-game guide page for it says Tree Tap is not installed, so those extras depend on that mod being present.[9][10]
How does Productive Trees work with other mods?
3 parts
The clearest link between Productive Trees and the rest of the pack is the Sawmill. The pack adds Sawmill recipes that turn Sawdust into planks from many other mods.[13]
Every one of these recipes is marked as added by the pack. Each takes sawdust as its only input and gives you planks.[13]
Sawmill (productivetrees)
Recipe id: allthemods:productivetrees/sawing/regions_unexplored/maple_planks

Planks you can make from sawdust
- Aether II: Skyroot Planks, Greatroot Planks and Wisproot Planks.[13]
- Allthemodium: Ancient Planks, Demonic Planks and Soul Planks. Each has several recipe variants in the pack, all using sawdust.[13]
- EvilCraft: Undead Planks.[13]
- Forbidden Arcanus: Aurum Planks, Edelwood Planks and Fungyss Planks.[13]
- Ice and Fire: Dreadwood Planks.[13]
- Integrated Dynamics: Menril Planks.[13]
- Occultism: Otherplanks.[13]
- Silent Gear: Netherwood Planks.[13]
- Undergarden: Ancient Root Planks, Grongle Planks, Smogstem Planks and Wigglewood Planks.[13]
Regions Unexplored
Regions Unexplored has the biggest list. Sawdust can become Alpha Planks, Baobab Planks, Blackwood Planks, Brimwood Planks, Cobalt Planks, Cypress Planks, Dead Planks, Eucalyptus Planks, Joshua Planks, Kapok Planks, Larch Planks, Magnolia Planks, Maple Planks, Palm Planks, Pine Planks, Redwood Planks, Socotra Planks, Willow Planks and Wisteria Planks.[13]
The bioshroom planks are covered too: Blue Bioshroom Planks, Green Bioshroom Planks, Pink Bioshroom Planks and Yellow Bioshroom Planks.[13]
Other mod compatibility
The mod's own in-game guide says it has compatibility with the Tree Tap mod, which opens up some additional tree products to be extracted.[9]
The Pollen Sieve Upgrade is installed in an advanced beehive from Productive Bees, so the bees collect pollen from nearby trees. The collection area is affected by range upgrades, and more than one sieve upgrade will not increase the yield.[6]
Which Productive Trees config options matter?
1 part
The only Productive Trees option this pack's files show is in the startup config, and it's an important one. General.minimal is set to true in this pack.[14]
Minimal mode
With minimal mode on, the mod skips registering the extra wood blocks for every tree: stairs, slabs, fences, fence gates, pressure plates, buttons, doors, trapdoors, bookshelves and signs. Logs, wood, planks, leaves, saplings and fruit are always registered, so the core tree and growing features are still there. The option description says this greatly reduces the number of registered blockstates and lowers RAM usage.[14]
Unverified The mod's own default for this option isn't shown in the pack files, so we can't say whether the pack changed it. Treat true as the pack's value either way.
