The Aether II is a mod in All the Mods 11 0.12.0-beta, where it is version 1.0-alpha.4.1. The Iconic Dimension Mod Returns! Step into a renewed and expanded Aether Dimension with The Aether II! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is The Aether II?

2 parts

The Aether II adds a whole new dimension to explore, the Holy Isles. It's a sequel to the classic Aether mod, with brand-new biomes, mobs, structures and progression systems. This pack ships an alpha build of the mod, so expect some features to still be work in progress.[1][2]

You get in by building a Glowstone Portal and adding Water. On the other side you'll find floating islands, high winds, vast oceans of cloud and deep caves. The dimension has its own native materials, including Skyroot, Holystone, Zanite and Gravitite.[1]

Progression is vanilla-esque, with new ores, utility blocks, structures to loot and mythical mobs. On top of that the mod adds equipment abilities, armor set bonuses, weapon damage types, new equipment slots and flying mounts.[1]

What you'll do there

  • Open the Traveller's Guidebook, a custom GUI where you equip new gear types in dedicated slots and read gameplay and lore info about your discoveries.[1]
  • Explore the Highfields, Magnetic and Arctic biome groups. Each one is made up of several individual biomes.[1]
  • Tame a Moa. You steal a Wild Egg from a Moa Nest, hatch it on Woven Skyroot Sticks, and feed the baby until it grows up. The project page says Moa flight is still a work in progress.[1]
  • Take on The Sentry Ruins, the one dungeon the project page lists as implemented. It's guarded by the Slider and holds uncraftable loot and Charms.[1]
  • Head below the Cloud Sea into the Undercloud. This is where the stronger resources are, including Arkenium, Gravitite and Corrobonite, and it's made of Undershale, which is harder than Holystone and needs a better pickaxe.[1]

Late-game upgrades

Instead of relying on random Enchanting, the mod centres its late game on the Arkenium Forge. There you linearly upgrade crafted equipment by Reinforcing it with Arkenium. Higher Reinforcement levels need Corrobonite, which only Gravitite-tier pickaxes can mine. Fully upgraded gear and loot items get Charm Slots, where Charms permanently apply upgrades like extra weapon damage or faster tool mining.[1]

How do you get started with The Aether II?

2 parts

Welcome to the Holy Isles! The Aether II adds a whole new dimension, and you get in by building a Glowstone Portal and adding Water. Once you're up there, the native materials to look for are Skyroot, Holystone, Zanite and Gravitite.[1]

The mod also adds the Traveller's Guidebook, a custom player GUI. It lets you equip new gear types in custom inventory slots and check gameplay and lore info about things you discover, including the bestiary.[1]

Your first crafting targets

The mod's own advancements point at the first stations worth making. Here they are, with the in-pack recipe for each.[3]

  1. Craft the Amber Hourglass. It has its own advancement, and it's the tool for restoring Fossilized Zanite into a Zanite Gemstone, so it's your way into Zanite.[3]
  2. Craft the Altar. It enchants Inert Arkenium into an Arkenium Plate, and it does the same for Inert Gravitite and Gravitite Plate.[3]
  3. Craft the Arkenium Forge. It has its own advancement, and Arkenium is the material behind a large set of in-pack gear recipes.[3][4]

Crafting it earns its own advancement.

Other early goals

  • Pick up an Ambrosium Shard. There's an advancement for obtaining one, and the shard is also used to enchant an Aether Grass Block so plants grow faster above it.[3]
  • Make the Alkahest Purifier when you're ready for it. It restores Irradiated Items, and Alkahest itself is collected with an Arkenium Canister.[3][4]
  • Harvest Golden Amber from an Amberoot tree. You need at least a Holystone-tier axe for it.[3]
Tip: Check the advancement list in-game as you go. The Amber Hourglass, the Arkenium Forge and the Alkahest Purifier each have their own advancement, so they make a handy checklist.[3]

How does The Aether II work?

3 parts

The project page describes The Aether II as a survival adventure mod with new utility blocks, and it says parts of the mod are still in development. The sources I have describe a handful of utility blocks, each with one job in the progression. This section covers what they confirm.[1]

The project page lists the mod's new mechanics as equipment abilities, armor set bonuses, new equipment slots, weapon damage types, enhanced status effects, new utility blocks, a guidebook bestiary, flying mounts and unique dungeon loot. The Traveller's Guidebook is the player GUI behind many of them. It holds the custom equipment slots and the lore and gameplay information you discover. The page also says some content is still early, for example the Irradiated Biomes, which are currently an early version.[1]

Getting to the Aether

The project page says you begin your journey with a Glowstone Portal and Water. In this pack, the option that gives you an Aether Portal Frame item when you create a world, [[config:config/aether_ii-common.toml#Gameplay.Gives player Aether Portal Frame item]], is set to false. The options [[config:config/aether_ii-common.toml#Gameplay.Alpha Message]] and [[config:config/aether_ii-common.toml#Gameplay.Yellow Alpha Button]] are also false.[1][5]

Other interactions worth knowing

  • Enchanting an Aether Grass Block with an Ambrosium Shard speeds up plant growth above it.[3]
  • You can store a tamed Aerbunny inside an Aerbunny Bell.[3]
  • Placing a Moa Egg on top of Woven Skyroot Sticks incubates it.[3]
  • Consuming an Antitoxin Vial or Antivenom Vial reduces the buildup of poison effects.[3][4]
  • Sleeping in a Cloudwool Bedroll passes the night without setting your spawn point. The Outpost Campfire sets a secondary respawn point. Traveller's Outposts are built around it, and the project page says that for now they are mainly used for that campfire.[1][3]

How do you progress through The Aether II?

2 parts

This pack doesn't give you a quest-guided path through The Aether II, so this section only covers what the recipe data confirms: the gear families you can craft and the crafting stations they are tied to.[4]

Gear families you can craft

Stations and the Arkenium material chain

The pack has crafting recipes for the Altar, the Artisan's Bench and the Arkenium Forge. They are shown below exactly as they are in this pack. The recipe data doesn't say what each station does, so check them in game.[4]

Arkenium has its own material recipes. Arkenium Plate can be crafted from a Block of Arkenium or from Arkenium Chip items, and chips can be crafted back from a plate. If you need to turn a block into plates, these are the recipes to check.[4]

Unverified The exact order of the tiers (Beast Pelt, Burrukai Plate, Arkenium), the bosses or dungeons that gate them, and the materials each recipe needs are not confirmed by the sources for this section. No quests in this pack involve The Aether II, so don't expect the quest book to guide you through it.

How does The Aether II work with other mods?

1 part

The only cross-mod connection I can confirm for The Aether II in this pack is a set of sawmill recipes. The pack added them, and they link the Aether's wood types to the Productive Trees sawmill.[4]

Sawing Aether planks with the Productive Trees sawmill

In the productivetrees:sawmill, you can turn Sawdust into Skyroot Planks, Greatroot Planks or Wisproot Planks. These recipes are pack additions, not something the mods do by default. Each plank type has its own recipe below.[4]

Tip: Sawdust is the input for each of these recipes, so a stock of it from the Productive Trees sawmill is all you need to make any of these Aether planks.[4]

Which The Aether II config options matter?

The Aether II keeps its common settings in config/aether_ii-common.toml. In this pack, the options set there all sit under the Gameplay group, and every one of them is turned off.[5]

  • [[config:config/aether_ii-common.toml#Gameplay.Gives player Aether Portal Frame item]] is set to false. When enabled, this option gives you an Aether Portal Frame item on world creation so you can go straight to the Aether. In this pack it's off, so you don't start with one.[5]
  • [[config:config/aether_ii-common.toml#Gameplay.Alpha Message]] is set to false.[5]
  • [[config:config/aether_ii-common.toml#Gameplay.Yellow Alpha Button]] is set to false.[5]

With the starting portal item off, you'll need to open the way yourself. The mod's own description says your journey begins with a Glowstone Portal and Water.[1][5]

What changed in The Aether II between versions?

4 parts

This pack ships the newest build of The Aether II covered below, and the mod list shows it was first included in All the Mods 11 0.0.11 or earlier. The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

1.0-alpha.4.1 (the version in this pack)

  • The required NeoForge version is now 26.1.2.84.[6]
  • Fixed a crash when loading the mod with NeoForge 26.1.2.84, and fixed a server crash.[6]

1.0-alpha.4

This was a big content update. The changelog I have is cut off partway through, so there may be more than what is listed here.[7]

  • New creature: the Prismallard, a duck-like mob that spawns at bodies of water in Highfields biomes. It comes with a feather, an egg, a fried egg, a leg and a roast.[7]
  • New Aerbunny Bell, a craftable item for keeping a tamed Aerbunny in so you can retrieve and deploy it. It uses Resonant Stone, a material found in loot.[7]
  • Tamed Aerbunnies now follow you. They can also take damage from hazards and enemies (not from players, and not from block suffocation), and one on your head shows its health above the hotbar.[7]
  • New Shifting Glass, a tool found in loot that lets you dash in a direction.[7]
  • New structures: Ancient Henges (rare, in Magnetic biomes), Veradexian Aqueducts (uncommon, in Shimmering Basin biomes), Brexallen Ruins (common, underground) and Undercloud Mineshafts (underground).[7]
  • New blocks: Rustic Arkenium Bars, Gel Blocks (a storage block for Swet Gel that also forms from Water and Alkahest fluid collisions), and lootable Holystone and Brexallen Vases.[7]
  • Irradiated Chunks can now purify into a wider range of outputs, and armor, weapon and tool purification outputs were expanded. Irradiated Dust now works as fuel in the Holystone Furnace.[7]
  • Reinforced items now have a durability bar that darkens with damage. A new data-driven item_reinforcement registry sets which attributes change per reinforcing tier.[7]
  • Added a config screen, and updated Cumulus to 2.0.15 and Nitrogen to 1.3.5.[7]

1.0-alpha.3.1

  • Added a backend Healing Overflow effect so the Healing Stone's extra hearts are saved after you log out.[8]
  • Added biome color and structure icon support for web maps.[8]
  • Renamed the Carrion Pull backend effect to Carrion Trap, and put more of the mod's effects into the milk_doesnt_clear tag (renamed from mob_effect/typed).[8]
  • Fixed several crashes: throwing a glider out of the inventory, running with SpongeNeo, and breaking blocks with Integrated Tunnels.[8]
  • Fixed the /clear command and the creative inventory deletion slot not clearing accessory items, Aerbunnies not staying on your head when you fall out of the Aether in a vehicle, and Copper Torches not igniting Hestveil blocks.[8]

1.0-alpha.3

This release ported the mod to 26.1.2.[9]

  • Added the Golden Wyndberry, which stops baby mobs from aging. You get it by feeding Golden Amber to a Carrion Sprout.[9]
  • Added the Arkenium Chip, which can be used to craft Nametags.[9]
  • Added a server config option, "Spawns the player in the Aether", so you can start a world in the Aether.[9]
  • Recipe tweaks: Arkenium Chains now give 3 per craft instead of 2, and Arkenium Bars give 32 instead of 16. Chain and Lantern recipes were also moved closer to the vanilla ones.[9]
  • Holystone Quartz Ore now drops an item called Aether Quartz instead of Nether Quartz. You can convert it back into Nether Quartz in the crafting grid.[9]
  • Ice Pendant was renamed Icestone Pendant. It can now be reinforced, and in the Overworld it places regular Frosted Ice instead of Arctic Frosted Ice.[9]
Watch out: The experimental dungeon content in 1.0-alpha.3 is not normal gameplay. The Infected Guardian Tree structure has to be spawned in with commands, and its related blocks and items need to be enabled in the mod's config.[9]
