What is Silent Gear?
2 parts
Silent Gear is all about tools, weapons and armor, which the mod calls "gear". Instead of grabbing a fixed iron pickaxe, you build each piece from parts and materials, so you decide what it is made of and how it performs. This pack includes Silent Gear 4.2.3, and the mod needs Silent Lib to run.[1][2]
It is a great fit if you like tinkering with your equipment and chasing better stats. Materials can come from vanilla (wood, stone, iron, diamond, netherite and more), from Silent Gear's own metals like crimson steel, azure electrum and tyrian steel, and from common modded metals such as tin, silver and lead. Silent Gear does not add the items needed to use those modded metals.[1]
What you can build
- Tools: pickaxes, shovels, axes, paxels, hoes, mattocks, sickles, prospector hammers that search for ores, hammers (area-of-effect pickaxes), excavators (area-of-effect shovels) and a saw that cuts down whole trees.[1]
- Weapons: swords, tridents, machetes, katana, daggers, knives, bows, crossbows and slingshots.[1]
- Armor, elytra and curios such as rings and bracelets.[1]
How it works at a glance
Every gear item needs a main part, and tools and weapons also need a rod. Blueprints and templates are essential for crafting gear. A blueprint is reusable forever, while a template is used up after one craft. Almost all recipes are shapeless and work in a normal crafting grid, and the mod recommends checking JEI if you are unsure about a recipe.[1]
You can also improve your materials. The material grader rolls a grade from E up to MAX and consumes one catalyst per attempt. Better catalysts give better average grades. Later on, the metal alloyer, recrystallizer and refabricator can combine up to four materials into one compound. The mod describes these blocks as mid to late game.[1]
Unverified The sources I have do not show where Silent Gear fits in this pack's progression, and they show no quests or ATM Star path involvement for it. The pack's own recipe and config changes for this mod are also unconfirmed, so check JEI in your world for the real recipes. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you get started with Silent Gear?
4 parts
Silent Gear is all about customizable tools, weapons and armor, which the mod calls gear. Blueprints and templates are essential for crafting any gear item. Here is a sensible order for your first steps, with the exact in-pack recipes shown under each item.[1]
Start with a crude knife
Make the Crude Knife first. The mod's own advancement text says it is meant for use on your stone anvil. A knife or dagger is also what you use with a log to craft template boards, and the mod describes both as weak but fast, with some crafting uses.[3][4]

Get blueprint paper and your first blueprint or template
A blueprint can be reused infinitely, while a template is consumed with one use. Otherwise they are identical.[1]
The mod has an advancement for crafting Blueprint Paper. Below are its recipe, plus the axe blueprint and the axe template as an example of the two kinds.[3][4]

Once you have a few blueprints, the Blueprint Book is worth making. The mod says it stores blueprints and acts like them, which keeps your inventory tidy.[3][4]

Build your first tool
Every gear item needs a main part, such as a tool head or blade. Tools and weapons also need a rod, and some need a cord. To make a main part, combine the blueprint or template with the right number of materials. The materials must all be the same, though they can have different grades. Then craft the main part with a rod. A plain stick works as a rod if you have nothing else, and most tools also have a quick recipe that skips the separate steps.[1]
Armor is different. It only needs a main part called plates, and there is no quick recipe. Craft the plates first, then craft the plates into armor.[1]
Prepare for repairs
The mod's advancements say any variety of repair kit can repair your broken gear, and that a tool that has shattered can be repaired by crafting it with a filled repair kit. The Crude Repair Kit is the first one to look at.[3][4]

How does Silent Gear work?
6 parts
Silent Gear is less about big machines and more about a handful of special blocks that process materials and gear. This section covers the crafting flow, the material grader, compound making, the starlight charger, the salvager and repairs, using what the available sources confirm.[1][4]
Crafting gear: blueprints, parts and the crafting station
Every gear item needs a main part, such as a tool head or blade. Tools and weapons also need a rod, and some need a cord. Blueprints and templates are how you make those parts. A blueprint can be reused infinitely, while a template is consumed on use. They are identical otherwise.[1]
In a plain crafting grid, all the materials going into a part must be the same material, though they can have different grades. If you use the crafting station, you can mix materials instead.[1][4]
If you want to keep your blueprints tidy, the Blueprint Book stores blueprints and acts like them.[3][4]

This is the Blueprint Book recipe as it is used in this pack.
This pack leaves blueprint types at BOTH, so you can use blueprints and templates. It also does not hand out a starter blueprint package or a material book when you join a new world.[5]
The material grader
The material grader gives materials a grade, a modifier that multiplies some of their stats. Grades run from lowest to highest: E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS and MAX. Each grading attempt consumes one catalyst, and the grade is picked randomly from a normal distribution.[1]
There are three default catalysts: glowing dust (tier 1), Blazing Dust (tier 2) and glittery dust (tier 3). Higher tiers give better average grades. Five tiers exist in total, but only three have items by default.[1][3][4]
You can put an already graded material back in to re-grade it. A higher roll replaces the grade. An equal or lower roll changes nothing, but the catalyst is still used up.[1]
- The pack's material_grader.median_grade is C. That is the most common result with a tier 1 catalyst, and each tier above 1 raises the median by one grade.[5]
- material_grader.standard_deviation is 1.5, the mod default. Larger values make both high and low grades more common.[5]
- material_grader.can_grade_parts is false in this pack, so the grader will not grade the individual materials inside a gear part.[5]
Making compounds (alloys)
Compound materials, which players often call alloys, are made in dedicated blocks: the metal alloyer, recrystallizer and refabricator. They combine up to four materials into one compound. You put two or more unique, simple (not compound) materials in the input slots, then toggle the Work button once you like the preview.[1]
There is also a super mixer, described in the mod's text as making alloys of any material. The crude mixer produces crude alloys, and in this pack compounds.crude_mixer.property_multiplier is 0.8, the mod default. A value below 1 reduces some numerical properties of those compounds.[4][5]
The starlight charger
The starlight charger gives material items the star charged enchantment, which substantially enhances material stats. Its screen shows that it gains charge when exposed to starlight. It also tells you to allow up to 30 seconds for the structure level display to update.[4]
- starlight_charger.charge_rate is 100, the mod default. This is how fast it gathers energy during the night.[5]
- starlight_charger.max_charge is 1,000,000, the mod default, and that is the most energy it can store.[5]
- starlight_charger.requires_view_of_sky is true, so the charger only works with a clear view of the sky above it.[5]
- starlight_charger.can_charge_parts is false in this pack, so it will not charge the materials inside a gear part.[5]
Salvager
The salvager can break down some items into their components. When it salvages gear, the parts come back as parts and you can optionally salvage them individually, because salvager.break_down_parts_with_gear is false in this pack.[4][5]
Some material can be lost along the way. The loss rate depends on remaining durability, with salvager.part_loss_rate.min at 0 (no loss) and salvager.part_loss_rate.max at 0.5. Both are the mod defaults.[5]
Repairing gear
You can't repair gear by crafting two similar gear items together. Repair kits are the quick option: craft them with materials to fill them, or with a stick to empty them. Then craft the kit with a gear item to repair it. The repair material's tier must be the same or higher than the tier of the gear's primary part.[1][4]
Anvil repairs work at 0.5 effectiveness here, the mod default, and setting gear.repairs.anvil_effectiveness to 0 would disable them. Repairing with loose materials and no kit has an efficiency of 0 in this pack, because item.repair_kits.efficiency.missing is 0, so you want a repair kit.[5]
How do you progress through Silent Gear?
4 parts
The sources for this pack list Silent Gear recipes but do not give a tier order or any stats. So this section walks through the families of items the in-pack recipes cover, and you can check each recipe in the rendered blocks below.[3]

Pack changes: ore hammer dusts
The pack adds its own ore hammer recipes that turn ingots into dusts for Silent Gear metals. They cover Azure Electrum Dust, Azure Silver Dust, Blaze Gold Dust, Crimson Iron Dust, Crimson Steel Dust and Tyrian Steel Dust. These recipes come from the pack, not from Silent Gear itself.[3]
Repair kits, blueprints and templates
Repair kits in the pack include Crude Repair Kit, Crimson Repair Kit and Azure Repair Kit. You will also find Blueprint Paper, Blueprint Book and a long list of blueprints and templates for tools, weapons and armor, such as Axe Blueprint, Bow Template and Helmet Blueprint. The Advanced Upgrade Base and Coating Smithing Template are part of the mod's items too. The Advanced Upgrade Base recipe is shown below.[3]

How does Silent Gear work with other mods?
4 parts
In this pack, Silent Gear connects to other mods through recipes. The links below come from the pack's recipe data: Productive Trees, Productive Bees and a metal-casting setup built around Uru Metal.[3]
Productive Trees: Netherwood Planks
The pack adds its own sawmill recipe that turns Sawdust into Netherwood Planks. It's a pack addition, so you won't find it in the mods on their own.[3]
Sawmill (productivetrees)
Recipe id: allthemods:productivetrees/sawing/silentgear/netherwood_planks
Added by the pack, made in the Productive Trees sawmill.
Productive Bees: Raw Metals from Honeycombs
Productive Bees can give you Silent Gear's raw metals. The centrifuge recipes for the azure silver and crimson iron honeycombs each output Wax plus Raw Azure Silver or Raw Crimson Iron. These are the mods' own recipes, not pack changes, and the recipe data shows no item inputs for them.[3]
Centrifuge (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/silentgear/honeycomb_azure_silver
Mod recipe from Productive Bees.
Centrifuge (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/silentgear/honeycomb_crimson_iron

Uru Metal Casting
The biggest link is the casting recipes in the sgearmetalworks namespace. Each one is an item-casting recipe that outputs an Uru Metal Ingot along with a Silent Gear part. The pack has changed these recipes from the mod versions, and most of them take Silent Unobtainium Plate as the input.[3]
Parts you can cast this way include Sword Blade, Pickaxe Head, Axe Head, Shovel Head, Hammer Head, Bow Limbs, Crossbow Limbs, Helmet Plates, Chestplate Plates, Legging Plates, Boot Plates and Shield Plate. Jewelry parts like Ring Shank, Necklace Chain and Bracelet Band are cast the same way. Here is an example:[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/uru/sword_blade
Changed by the pack.
Spearhead Casting
Spearhead has a pair of casting recipes. The mod's own recipe takes Tyrian Steel Ingot. The pack also adds a recipe called spear_tip that takes Silent Unobtainium Plate instead. Both give you the spearhead and an Uru Metal Ingot.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/uru/spearhead
Mod recipe, using a Tyrian Steel Ingot.
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Which Silent Gear config options matter?
5 parts
Silent Gear keeps all its settings in one file, config/silentgear-common.toml. Here are the ones you're most likely to notice while playing, with the exact values this pack uses. Every value in the file that lists a mod default matches that default, so for those options the pack hasn't changed anything.[5]
Breaking, enchanting and repairs
- gear.breaks_permanently is false. Your gear doesn't vanish forever like vanilla tools when it breaks, so you can repair it.[5]
- gear.send_broken_message is true. You get a chat message when an item breaks, with a hint that it can be repaired.[5]
- gear.enchanting.allow_enchanting is true, so you can enchant gear the normal way. gear.enchanting.force_remove_enchantments is false, so enchantments aren't stripped.[5]
- gear.repairs.anvil_effectiveness is 0.5, which is the mod default. Setting it to 0 would disable anvil repairs.[5]
- item.repair_kits.efficiency.missing is 0. Repairing with loose materials and no repair kit does nothing, so you need a repair kit. A value above zero would make kits optional.[5]
Repair kit capacity
Kit capacities are the mod defaults: 8 for very crude (item.repair_kits.capacity.very_crude), 16 for crude (item.repair_kits.capacity.crude), 32 for sturdy (item.repair_kits.capacity.sturdy), 48 for crimson (item.repair_kits.capacity.crimson) and 64 for azure (item.repair_kits.capacity.azure). Azure kits also have an efficiency of 0.5 (item.repair_kits.efficiency.azure).[5]
Starting out
- item.blueprint.spawn_with_starter_blueprints is false, so you don't start with a blueprint package.[5]
- item.material_book.spawn_with_material_book is false, so you don't get a material book when you first join.[5]
- item.blueprint.types_allowed is "BOTH", so both blueprints and templates are allowed.[5]
- gear.allow_conversion_recipes is true, so conversion recipes work. For example, you can turn a vanilla stone pickaxe into a Silent Gear one in a crafting grid.[5]
Machines
- The material grader's material_grader.median_grade is "C" with a tier 1 catalyst. Each catalyst tier past 1 raises the median by one grade. material_grader.standard_deviation is 1.5, and material_grader.can_grade_parts is false.[5]
- The starlight charger works at night only (starlight_charger.work_time is "NIGHTTIME") and needs a clear view of the sky (starlight_charger.requires_view_of_sky is true). It gathers 100 energy per starlight_charger.charge_rate and stores up to 1,000,000 (starlight_charger.max_charge).[5]
- The salvager loses between 0 and 0.5 of the parts depending on remaining durability (salvager.part_loss_rate.min and salvager.part_loss_rate.max). salvager.break_down_parts_with_gear is false, so returned parts stay as parts until you salvage them yourself.[5]
Tool behavior
- Area-of-effect tools match ore blocks strictly (gear.aoe_tool.match_mode.ores is "STRICT") and other blocks moderately (gear.aoe_tool.match_mode.standard is "MODERATE").[5]
- The prospector hammer searches 16 blocks (gear.prospector_hammer.range).[5]
- The saw's gear.saw.recursion_depth is 200. Lower it if you hit stack overflow exceptions.[5]
- trait.item_magnet.disable_on_crouch is true, so the item magnet stops pulling while you sneak.[5]
Unverified The file lists no mod default for several options, such as the breaks-permanently, enchanting, starter item, material grader median and starlight charger work-time settings. Whether the pack changed any of them from the mod's own defaults can't be confirmed from the available sources.
What changed in Silent Gear between versions?
4 parts
All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships Silent Gear 4.2.3. The mod has been in the pack since 0.0.16 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, oldest first.[2]
Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for Silent Gear, so this history only covers the mod's own changelogs.
4.2.0 (2026-05-11)
This is the big one: the paint mixer and paint arrived. The paint mixer makes paint from dyes, gear materials and other paints, so you can mix and match.[6]
- Paint and dyes customize the colors of gear items, and each part is colored separately.[6]
- Craft a gear item with paint or dyes to color the main part.[6]
- Craft a gear item with a mod kit and paint or dyes to color a specific part.[6]
- Craft a part with paint or dyes to color the part itself.[6]
- Color mixing now uses a new algorithm that produces more vibrant and realistic colors. It applies to alloys and paint.[6]
- Fixed the blueprint book and mod kit items not cycling correctly with the Z and C keys in many cases.[6]
4.2.1
- Added GearRecaculateEvent.Pre and GearRecaculateEvent.Post, events that fire when gear data is recalculated. This one is mainly for mod developers.[7]
- The quick paint recipe (paint plus gear) now paints the coating instead of the main part if a coating is present.[7]
- Updated the pt_br localization.[7]
- Fixed some items receiving invalid data components, which caused serialization issues.[7]
- Fixed arrows only crafting one at a time.[7]
- Fixed seeds not having the correct localized name.[7]
- Fixed arrows not allowing rod swaps and fishing rods not allowing cord swaps.[7]
4.2.2 (2026-08-02)
- JEI support has been updated.[8]
- Fixed a crash when salvaging some items on a server. Now an exception is listed in the log and no items are returned. The developer believes this only affected spawned-in gear items, not ones crafted normally.[8]
4.2.3 (2026-08-25)
This is the version in the pack right now, and it is all fixes.[2][9]
