What is Thaumaturge?

Thaumaturge is part of this pack, which ships version 1.0.2 of the mod as a NeoForge build.[1]

The sources I have for this pack don't describe what the mod adds, so I'm not going to guess at its items or mechanics here. They also don't show where the pack's quest book places the mod, so this page doesn't claim a chapter, group or position for it.[1]

How do you get started with Thaumaturge?

6 parts

Welcome to Thaumaturge! The easiest way to start is to follow the stations the mod's own recipes build toward. Below is the order I'd go in, and each recipe block shows the exact in-pack recipe.[2]

Start with the Thaumonomicon

Your first item is the Thaumonomicon. In this pack it comes from a dust trigger recipe rather than a normal crafting grid, and the recipe id names a bookshelf as the starting point.[2]

ThaumonomiconMod recipe

Dust Trigger Tag (thaumaturge)

    Recipe id: thaumaturge:dust_trigger/bookshelf_to_thaumonomicon

The Thaumonomicon is made by a dust trigger tag recipe.

    Then the Arcane Workbench

Next is the Arcane Workbench. It is also a dust trigger recipe, and its id says it converts crafting tables. This is the important one: the recipe dump counts 288 shaped Arcane Workbench recipes making 116 different results, plus 11 shapeless ones.[2]

    Dust Trigger Tag (thaumaturge)

      Recipe id: thaumaturge:dust_trigger/crafting_tables_to_arcane_workbench

Crafting tables turn into the Arcane Workbench.

      The Crucible

The Crucible comes from a simple dust trigger recipe whose id says it starts from a cauldron. The Crucible has its own recipe type with 71 recipes making 35 different results, and Alumentum is one of them.[2]

      CrucibleMod recipe

      Dust Trigger Simple (thaumaturge)

        Recipe id: thaumaturge:dust_trigger/cauldron_to_crucible

        AlumentumMod recipe

        Crucible (thaumaturge)

          Recipe id: thaumaturge:crucible/alumentum

A Crucible recipe, so you make Alumentum in the Crucible itself.

          Constructs, Alembic and the furnace

With the workbench ready, you can craft the parts of the Advanced Alchemical Furnace. The mod's own text lists an Alchemical Construct, an Alembic and an Advanced Alchemical Construct as placeholder parts of it. The furnace itself is made by a multiblock dust trigger recipe.[2][3]

            Infusion

The Runic Matrix is another multiblock dust trigger recipe. The infusion recipe type has 58 recipes, each with a different result, including the Arcane Bore and the Amulet of Vis.[2]

                  Recipe id: thaumaturge:quicksilver_from_cluster

This pack also adds its own sawmill recipes for Productive Trees: 2 Sawdust make 6 Greatwood Planks, and a matching recipe makes 6 Silverwood Planks.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show what you need to place for the dust trigger recipes, or what the Thaumonomicon teaches. No in-jar guidebook was found for this mod, and no quests in this pack involve it.

                  How does Thaumaturge work?

                  10 parts

Thaumaturge is a set of connected systems: stations you unlock by trigger recipes, crafting on the Arcane Workbench, the Crucible, Infusion with a Runic Matrix, smelting, and auras. There is no in-jar guidebook in the sources here, so this page sticks to what the pack's recipe list and the mod's data files actually show.[2][3]

Unlocking stations with the dust trigger

Some key stations are not made in a normal crafting grid. They use "dust trigger" recipe types: a simple one, a tag one and a multiblock one. The Crucible comes from a recipe named cauldron_to_crucible, and the Thaumonomicon from one named bookshelf_to_thaumonomicon. The Golem Press and the Advanced Alchemical Furnace are made by multiblock dust trigger recipes. Across the mod there are 7 recipes of the multiblock type, giving 5 different results.[2]

                          Furnace parts

The Advanced Alchemical Furnace has placeholder blocks named Alchemical Construct, Advanced Alchemical Construct and Alembic, plus a block called the Advanced Alchemical Furnace Nozzle. The two construct items are made on the Arcane Workbench: one recipe makes 2 Alchemical Construct and the other makes 4 Advanced Alchemical Construct.[2][3]

                                Tuning an infusion

The mod's data maps give numbers to the blocks you build around a Runic Matrix. These fields are named cost, cycle_time and stability. The sources show the raw values but not how the game combines them, and nothing here shows the pack changing them.[3][4][5][6]

                                • Infusion Cost Stone: cost -0.02, cycle_time 1.[4]
                                • Infusion Speed Stone: cost 0.01, cycle_time -1.[4]
                                • Ancient pillar set: cost -0.1, cycle_time -1, stability -0.1.[6]
                                • Eldritch pillar set: cost 0.05, cycle_time -3, stability 0.2.[6]
                                • Ancient pedestal: cost -0.01.[5]
                                • Eldritch pedestal: cost 0.0025.[5]

                                Smelter tiers

The smelter stats data map defines three tiers, each with an efficiency and a smelt_interval.[7]

                                • Basic: efficiency 0.8, smelt_interval 15.[7]
                                • Thaumium: efficiency 0.9, smelt_interval 10.[7]
                                • Void: efficiency 0.95, smelt_interval 15.[7]

                                Infernal bonus outputs

An "infernal bonus" data map lists extra items for certain inputs. Ores of cinnabar, copper, gold, iron and quartz each have a 0.33 chance of 2 nuggets (quicksilver for cinnabar). Lead, silver and tin ores work the same way, but only when a nugget of that metal exists in the pack. Raw cinnabar, copper, gold and iron have a 0.33 chance of a single nugget.[8]

Raw meats and fish (beef, chicken, cod, mutton, porkchop, pufferfish, rabbit, salmon, tropical fish) have a 0.33 chance of a matching Thaumaturge chunk. Rare earth is a separate bonus with three tag-based chances: 0.01 (low), 0.02 (normal) and 0.025 (high).[8]

                                Aura and nodes

Every biome has an aura value in a data map. Examples are 0.5 for forest, 0.75 for mushroom fields, 0.125 for the Nether and End biomes, and 0.0 for the void. The mod's own biomes are higher: Magical Forest, Magical Forest Caves and Eerie are 0.625, Eldritch is 0.458 and Tainted Lands is 0.45.[3][9]

Aura Nodes are placed by biome modifiers. Nodes generate in the Magical Forest, the Eerie biome and the Nether. The Nether also gets firebat and wisp spawns.[3][10][11][12][13][14]

                                Spell foci

The spell focus data map defines three focus tiers. Complexity, depth and repeats rise with each tier, and the second and third also have branches.[15]

                                • Focus 1: complexity 20, depth 6, repeats 1.[15]
                                • Focus 2: branches 2, complexity 40, depth 10, repeats 2.[15]
                                • Focus 3: branches 4, complexity 75, depth 14, repeats 4.[15]

                                Golem accessories

Five golem items map to golem accessories: the bowtie, fez, glasses, top hat and visor. You build golems with the Golem Press.[2][16]

                                Essentia handling

The mod has a family of essentia blocks: the Essentia Centrifuge, Essentia Crystallizer, Essentia Reservoir, Essentia Mirror, and a Filling and an Emptying Essentia Transfuser. It also has the Arcane Alembic and several jars. The sources only give their names, not how they move or store essentia.[3]

Unverified Which aspects each entity and biome carries is set in the mod's entity_aspects and biome_aspects data maps. The overworld wild node placement is in the add_wild_nodes biome modifier. The sources here do not show the contents of any of these files.

How do you progress through Thaumaturge?

                                5 parts

The recipe dump for this pack sorts Thaumaturge recipes by the station that makes them. That gives you a map of what each station unlocks, which is how this section is laid out.[2]

                                Step one: the starter stations

Three recipes unlock your first Thaumaturge stations: the Thaumonomicon, the Arcane Workbench and the Crucible. Each one is a dust trigger recipe, shown below.[2]

The Crucible has 71 recipes with 35 different results. They include Alumentum, Bath Salts, Bottle of Taint, and native clusters of cinnabar, copper, gold and iron. You can smelt or blast a cluster into 2 Quicksilver. Quicksilver also comes from ore and from raw cinnabar.[2]

                                        Multiblocks and infusion

There are 7 multiblock recipes with 5 different results. The ones written out in the dump are:[2]

The advanced furnace's placeholder blocks drop an Arcane Alembic, an Alchemical Construct and an Advanced Alchemical Construct. Its nozzle also drops an Advanced Alchemical Construct. So the Arcane Workbench items from earlier feed straight into this build.[17][18][19][20]

Infusion has 58 recipes, and each one makes a different result. Here are some of them:[2]

The pack adds its own Productive Trees sawmill recipes: 2 sawdust gives 6 Greatwood Planks or 6 Silverwood Planks. The Productive Bees centrifuge recipes for the thaumium and void honeycombs are mod recipes. They give wax plus a Thaumium Nugget or a Void Metal Nugget.[2]

The mod also ships a biome data map of aura modifier values. Mushroom fields has 0.75, the Thaumaturge magical forest has 0.625, plains has 0.3, and the Nether, End and soul sand valley biomes sit at 0.125.[9]

Unverified The quest sources available here include no Thaumaturge quests, so the pack's quest book gives no tier order for this mod. The station breakdown above comes from the recipe types only.

How does Thaumaturge work with other mods?

                                          3 parts

The links between Thaumaturge and the rest of the pack that show up in recipes come from three mods: Productive Bees, Productive Trees and Just Another Witchery Remake. No quests in this pack involve Thaumaturge, so everything below comes from recipes.[2]

                                          Productive Bees: metal from honeycombs

Productive Bees gives you a bee-based way to get Thaumaturge metals. Its centrifuge has a thaumium honeycomb recipe that produces Wax and a Thaumium Nugget. A void honeycomb recipe produces wax and a Void Metal Nugget. Both of these are recipes from the mod itself, not changes made by the pack.[2]

The pack adds its own sawmill recipes so that Productive Trees can make Thaumaturge's wood planks. You can saw Greatwood Planks and Silverwood Planks in the Productive Trees sawmill.[2]

                                              Witchery rituals

Just Another Witchery Remake has two ritual recipes that take a Thaumaturge item. One uses Amber and the other uses Quicksilver. Both also call for Witchery's Attuned Stone and Phantom Vapor, plus Blaze Powder and an Ender Pearl. They are mod recipes, not pack changes.[2]
