What is IceAndFire Community Edition?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

IceAndFire Community Edition is an unofficial fork of the original Ice and Fire mod. It adds optimizations, new content and rewrites. The pack ships it as an alpha build, and that is the version this guide describes.[1][2]

It carries over everything from the original mod except the myrmex series, and it adds netherite-related things on top.[1]

The mod's in-game guide book opens with a tattered note stuck behind the cover. It says the book holds manuscripts on designing supernatural tools and a guide to tracking down wondrous creatures, and that it is offered to anyone willing to explore those mysteries.[3]

Good to know

  • Don't swap this mod in directly for the original Ice and Fire, or your saves will be corrupted. The fork's authors also ask you not to report its issues to the original mod.[1]
  • You may not find a config file. The config system only saves the data it needs, so you change settings through the in-game client GUI via Mod Menu, and that needs server operator permission.[1]
  • Biome settings are changed by editing biome tags with datapacks.[1]

Unverified Whether the pack's quest book has any chapter, group or quest that involves this mod, and whether the ATM Star path uses it, is not shown by the sources here. Check the quest book itself for details.

How do you get started with IceAndFire Community Edition?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Welcome to Ice and Fire! This pack uses the Community Edition, an unofficial fork of the original mod. It keeps everything from the original except the myrmex series, and it adds Netherite-related content. The fork also supports EMI for recipe viewing, so you can look up recipes in-game.[1]

The sources for this section don't spell out a strict crafting order. What they do give is the mod's own advancement descriptions, which make a good roadmap for your first steps.[4]

Start with the in-game guide

The mod's in-game guide opens with a tattered note tucked behind the cover. It is dedicated to anyone willing to explore mystic wonders, and it wishes to help you along the way.[3]

A sensible early roadmap

  1. Enter the world of magical creatures. That is the description of the root advancement, which starts the whole line.[4]
  2. Find 3 manuscripts in dungeons and use them to create a bestiary.[4]
  3. Craft a Bestiary Lectern to learn more about the world of Ice and Fire.[4]
  4. Try taming some creatures. A hippogryph is tamed by dropping rabbit feet near it, a hippocampus by feeding it kelp, and a pixie is befriended by dropping cake near it.[4]
  5. Prepare your dragon tools. Dragon Meal rapidly grows baby dragons, a dragon flute stops runaway dragons, a dragon horn stores dragons, and a dragon command staff lets you control them.[4]
  6. Build toward dragonsteel. A dragonsteel ingot is made from dragon blood and iron, and dragonsteel weapons come after that.[4]

How the dragon forge works

The dragon forges are what make dragon steel. The forge core is where all items are put in. A dragon needs to see the core block to power the forge, and it has to be the correct type of dragon. You open the forge by clicking the blocks at the center of each face.[4]

Tip: If you can't remember a recipe, check it in EMI. The mod even adds its own Lightning Dragon Forge category there.[1][4]
Watch out: The mod page warns that you must not directly replace this mod with another version, or your saves will be corrupted. It also asks you not to report issues to the original Ice and Fire mod, since this is a separate fork.[1]

How does IceAndFire Community Edition work?

6 parts

Ice and Fire is not a power-and-pipes mod, so there is nothing to wire up here. The sources for this pack show no energy or fluid systems for IceAndFire Community Edition. The machine-like part is the dragon forge, plus a handful of ordinary crafting routes. Here is what the sources confirm.[1][5]

The dragon forge

The dragon forge is the mod's multiblock. It comes in three elements, fire, ice and lightning. Each element has its own forge brick, forge core and forge aperture block. For example, you get the Dragonforge Fire Brick, Dragonforge Fire Core and Dragonforge Fire Aperture, with matching ice and lightning versions. Each core also has a separate "disabled" block.[5]

The mod's advancements point you at the forge in two steps: create a dragon forge brick, then create a dragon forge core. There is also a Dragon Forge Speed attribute in the language file. The sources here do not show the multiblock layout or how the speed attribute is used.[5]

The mod's project page lists a Ponder tutorial for the dragon forge structure, marked as MC 1.21+ only. If your pack has Ponder, check it for the build.[1]

Dragonsteel from the forge

The forge has its own recipe type, iceandfire:dragonforge. In the pack's recipe dump, all six of its recipes produce a different result. Three of them are the dragonsteel ingots, one for each element.[6]

Dragonforge (iceandfire)

    Recipe id: iceandfire:dragonforge/dragonsteel_fire_ingot

The fire version, made as a dragonforge recipe.

    Dragonforge (iceandfire)

      Recipe id: iceandfire:dragonforge/dragonsteel_ice_ingot

      The ice version.

      Dragonforge (iceandfire)

        Recipe id: iceandfire:dragonforge/dragonsteel_lightning_ingot

        The lightning version.

The mod's advancement for this step is "Create a dragonsteel ingot". Dragonsteel also comes in block form for all three elements: Block of Fire Dragonsteel, Block of Ice Dragonsteel and Block of Lightning Dragonsteel.[5]

        Dragonsteel without a forge

This pack adds another route through Productive Bees, using its centrifuge. The fire and ice versions are shown below. See Productive Bees for the centrifuge itself.[6]

        Centrifuge (productivebees)

          Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/iceandfire/honeycomb_fire_dragonsteel

Gives Fire Dragonsteel Ingot and Fire Dragon Blood.

          Centrifuge (productivebees)

            Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/iceandfire/honeycomb_ice_dragonsteel

Gives Ice Dragonsteel Ingot and Ice Dragon Blood.

The recipe dump shows no honeycomb recipe for lightning dragonsteel.[6]

            Ore and smelting

The mod's own biome modifiers would generate sapphire ore and silver ore underground. In this pack, both modifier files are replaced with a version whose only content is a "never" condition. So the mod's normal ore generation is switched off here.[7][8][9][10]

The smelting recipes are still in the pack. Sapphire has both a smelting and a blasting recipe. Silver Ingot has blasting recipes, and a smelting and a blasting recipe for the deepslate ore. Cracked Dreadstone Bricks come from a smelting recipe too.[6]

            Blasting

              Recipe id: iceandfire:furnace/silver_ingot_blasting

              Silver ingots from blasting.

              Dreadstone and dreadwood

Dreadstone building blocks are cut at a stonecutter rather than crafted. The recipes below cover Dreadstone Bricks, Chiseled Dreadstone Bricks and Dreadstone Bricks Slab.[6]

              Stonecutting

                Recipe id: iceandfire:stonecutter/dread_stone_bricks

                Dreadstone Bricks from the stonecutter.

                Stonecutting

                  Recipe id: iceandfire:stonecutter/dread_stone_bricks_chiseled

Dreadstone Bricks Slab from the stonecutter.

The pack also adds a Productive Trees sawmill recipe for Dreadwood Planks. It takes 2 sawdust and gives 6 planks. See Productive Trees for that machine.[6]

6× Dreadwood PlanksAdded by the pack

                    Sawmill (productivetrees)

Added by the pack, not by the mod.

                    Netherite dragon armor

The netherite dragon armor pieces are upgraded at a smithing table. The dump lists six smithing_transform recipes for the mod, and three of them are the armor body, head and neck.[6]

                    Smithing Transform

                      Recipe id: iceandfire:dragonarmor_netherite_body

Netherite Dragon Armor Body, made by smithing.

How do you progress through IceAndFire Community Edition?

                      7 parts

This page follows the mod through the in-pack recipes. The recipe dump here lists outputs and recipe types but not the ingredient lists, so each step below gives you the recipe block instead. The recipe tells you exactly what to bring.[6]

                      The Bestiary and basic metals

Start with the Bestiary, which is crafted as a shapeless recipe. The in-game guide opens with a note stuck behind its cover.[3][6]

One piece of the copper armor set.

                        Dragon scale armor

Dragon scale armor comes in amethyst, black, blue, bronze and copper variants, and every piece has a shaped crafting recipe. Blue Dragon Scale Chestplate is one example. The amethyst recipe ids are spelled "amythest" in the pack, so search for that spelling if you look them up.[6]

                        Crafting Shaped

                        8 × Dragonscales Blue

                        Recipe id: iceandfire:armor_blue_chestplate

One piece of the blue dragon scale set, as a shaped crafting recipe.

                        The dragonforge and dragonsteel

Dragonsteel comes in fire, ice and lightning versions: Fire Dragonsteel Ingot, Ice Dragonsteel Ingot and Lightning Dragonsteel Ingot. Each type has a matching dragon blood: Fire Dragon Blood, Ice Dragon Blood and Lightning Dragon Blood. The fire dragonsteel recipe below shows what a dragonforge recipe looks like.[6]

                        Dragonforge (iceandfire)

                          Recipe id: iceandfire:dragonforge/dragonsteel_fire_ingot

A dragonforge recipe, not a crafting table recipe.

The pack also has a shortcut through Productive Bees. Its centrifuge recipes turn the fire, ice and lightning dragonsteel honeycombs into the matching dragonsteel ingot plus the matching dragon blood.[6]

                          Centrifuge (productivebees)

                            Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/iceandfire/honeycomb_ice_dragonsteel

Gives an Ice Dragonsteel Ingot and Ice Dragon Blood.

                            Netherite upgrades

The top-end gear uses smithing transform recipes. These cover Netherite Dragon Armor Head, Netherite Dragon Armor Neck, Netherite Dragon Armor Body, Netherite Dragon Armor Tail, Netherite Hippogryph Armor and Epic Dragon Seeker.[6]

                            Smithing Transform

                              A smithing transform recipe.

                              Building with dreadstone and dreadwood

The dreadstone building blocks are Dreadstone Bricks, Chiseled Dreadstone Bricks, Dreadstone Bricks Slab, Dreadstone Bricks Stairs, Dreadstone Tile and Cracked Dreadstone Bricks.[6]

                              Stonecutting

                                Recipe id: iceandfire:stonecutter/dread_stone_bricks

Dreadstone bricks use a stonecutting recipe.

The pack adds its own sawmill recipe for Dreadwood Planks. It turns 2 sawdust into 6 planks in a Productive Trees sawmill.[6]

6× Dreadwood PlanksAdded by the pack

                                Sawmill (productivetrees)

                                Recipe id: allthemods:productivetrees/sawing/iceandfire/dreadwood_planks

Added by the pack, not by the mod.

                                Dragon skeleton loot

The fire, ice and lightning dragon skeleton loot tables each roll 2 times in this pack. Each roll gives either 1 Dragon Bone or 4 pearls from KubeJS: a fire pearl, an ice pearl or a lightning pearl, depending on the skeleton.[11][12][13]

                                Where to look

The pack replaces the mod's biome lists with AllTheModium biomes, so the usual overworld spawn spots do not apply. Amphitheres and cockatrices use the AllTheModium desert and desert hills biomes. Death worms and cyclops caves use the AllTheModium desert.[14][15][16][17]

                                • Hippogryphs of every listed colour, mountain trolls and graveyards use the AllTheModium Other biome.[18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26]
                                • Stymphalian birds, snowy trolls, hydra caves and the ice dragon structure use the AllTheModium warped forest.[27][28][29][30]
                                • Forest trolls and the fire dragon structure use the AllTheModium crimson forest.[31][32]
                                • Gorgon temples use the AllTheModium soul sand valley.[33]
                                • Wandering cyclops can appear in the crimson forest, warped forest, the Other, soul sand valley, desert and desert hills.[34]

Unverified The biome lists for the lightning dragon structure, mausoleum, myrmex hives, pixie village and siren island live in the pack's data/iceandfire/tags/worldgen/biome/structure_gen files. The sources here do not show them, so check those files in game.

How does IceAndFire Community Edition work with other mods?

                                2 parts

                                Productive Trees: Dreadwood Planks

The pack adds a Productive Trees sawmill recipe that produces Dreadwood Planks from Sawdust. This recipe is added by the pack. Here is how it looks:[6]

6× Dreadwood PlanksAdded by the pack

                                Sawmill (productivetrees)

Made in the Productive Trees sawmill.

                                AllTheModium biomes

The other link I can confirm is about where things generate. At load time the pack writes biome tag files for IceAndFire Community Edition that replace the mod's own biome lists. The entries point at biomes from AllTheModium, and each entry is marked as not required. Below is what each of those tags lists.[14][17][32][34]

                                • Desert and desert hills: the amphithere and cockatrice tags list both biomes, and so does the lightning structure tag.[14][15][35]
                                • Desert only: the deathworm tag and the cyclops cave structure tag list just the desert biome.[16][17]
                                • The Other: every hippogryph colour tag (black, brown, chestnut, creamy, dark brown, gray and white) lists it. So do the mountain troll tag and the graveyard structure tag.[18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26]
                                • Warped forest: the stymphalian bird tag, the snowy troll tag, the hydra cave structure tag and the ice structure tag list it.[27][28][29][30]
                                • Crimson forest: the forest troll tag and the fire structure tag list it.[31][32]
                                • Soul sand valley: the gorgon temple and mausoleum structure tags list it.[33][36]
                                • The wandering cyclops tag lists crimson forest, warped forest, The Other, soul sand valley, desert and desert hills.[34]
Tip: Because these tags replace the mod's defaults, don't expect the base mod's usual biome rules for these creatures and structures. Look in the AllTheModium biomes listed above.[14][18][32][34]

Unverified The pack also generates biome tags for the myrmex hives (desert and jungle), pixie villages, siren islands and the no-graveyard list, plus banner pattern tags and a KubeJS tags script for this mod. The sources here do not show what those files contain, so check them in the pack's data files and kubejs/server_scripts/mods/iceandfire/tags.js.

Which IceAndFire Community Edition config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

The only config file for this mod that I can confirm in this pack is the client-side one, so this section is short. It sits at config/iceandfire/iaf-client.json and holds three options. They affect only your own game, not the world or the server.[37]

If you want to change any of these, edit the file with the game closed. Restart afterwards so the new values load.[37]

Unverified I couldn't confirm the mod's default values for these three options, so I can't say whether the pack changed any of them. I also have no source describing exactly what each option does beyond its name. Any gameplay or server-side config files for the mod aren't covered here.

Written from what All the Mods 11 itself ships: its files and recipes, the in-game guidebooks and the mods' own pages. Every statement links to the source it came from, and the numbers are checked against the pack before publishing.
