What is Regions Unexplored?

2 parts

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod. It overhauls how the Overworld and the Nether generate, so exploring feels fresh again. The project page advertises 64 new biomes, plus a lot of new blocks and items to find in them.[1]

It's for you if you like exploring, building, or just want your world to look different. It adds scenery and building material rather than a new tech or magic system.[1]

Version in this pack

This pack ships Regions Unexplored 0.7.0+beta2 for NeoForge. The 64 biome figure comes from the project page's general description, so I can't confirm it matches this exact build.[1][2]

The project page says that from version 0.6 onward the mod depends on Lithostitched 1.7.9 or above. Older versions used Terrablender instead. Since this pack's build is newer than 0.6, the Lithostitched requirement is the one that applies.[1][2]

Tip: The project page says the mod currently lacks a wiki and a full up-to-date biome list, so don't count on finding one online.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Unverified The sources I have don't show any quests in this pack that involve Regions Unexplored, and they don't place it on the ATM Star path. Treat it as an optional exploration and building mod rather than something your progression depends on.

How do you get started with Regions Unexplored?

2 parts

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod that overhauls Overworld and Nether generation with 64 new biomes, plus a lot of new blocks and items. So your first job is getting out there, looking around, and bringing back wood and plants.[1]

The pack has crafting recipes for planks, shrub-to-sapling conversion and branches. Here is a sensible order for your first session.[3]

Your first steps

  1. Explore and collect logs. The mod has its own wood types, and one of its advancements asks you to collect every log from the mod. That makes a handy long-term goal.[4]
  2. Turn logs into planks. The pack has planks recipes for the mod's woods, such as Baobab Planks and Alpha Planks. It also has recipes for the stairs, slabs, doors, fences, signs and boats of woods like Baobab.[3]
  3. Convert shrubs into saplings. The pack has a crafting recipe for many tree types that makes the sapling from the matching shrub, for example Baobab Shrub into Baobab Sapling. This is a quick way to start planting your own trees.[3]
  4. Make branches from logs. The pack has recipes that craft branch items from logs for woods like Acacia, Birch, Baobab and Blackwood, such as Baobab Branch.[3]

Goals to aim for

The mod adds advancements that point you at its content. Mycologist asks you to collect every Bioshroom type, Every Bit of the Rainbow asks you to collect or craft every colour of the Snowbelle Flower, and Pioneer asks you to explore all Surface biomes from Regions Unexplored. They make a good checklist once your base is set up.[4]

How does Regions Unexplored work?

3 parts

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod, so the sources show no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid systems to learn here. The project page describes it as a mod that overhauls Overworld and Nether generation, adding 64 new biomes plus a lot of new blocks and items. Its mechanics are mostly about exploring, gathering plants and wood, and building with the new blocks.[1]

Crafting with plants

The recipes the pack dump lists for this mod are simple crafting-table conversions. Shrubs can be turned into saplings, and tall bioshrooms can be turned into regular bioshrooms. For example, there is a recipe that makes a Maple Sapling from a maple shrub, and one that makes a Blue Bioshroom from a tall blue bioshroom. The same pattern covers the other tree types and bioshroom colors.[3]

There is also a crafting recipe that makes an Acacia Branch from an acacia log.[3]

Biomes and exploration

The mod's advancements show what it expects you to do. They ask you to explore all Surface biomes, all Cave biomes and all Nether biomes from the mod. They also ask you to collect every log, every Bioshroom type and every Bioshroom Stem type.[4]

A few advancements point to small interactions. You can hang from a Kapok tree's vines, chop down a Socotra tree, walk or bounce on a Giant Lily Pad, or place Prismaglass on an active Beacon.[4]

The language file also marks several biomes as removed, such as Arid Mountains, Barley Fields and Scorching Caves. Don't expect to find those.[4]

Dependencies

The project page says that mod versions 0.6 and above need Lithostitched 1.7.9 or above, plus Fabric API on Fabric. Versions 0.5.9 and below need Terrablender instead.[1]

How do you progress through Regions Unexplored?

3 parts

The Regions Unexplored recipes in the pack's data are ordinary crafting recipes, either shaped or shapeless. The recipes shown here include no machine tiers or stages for this mod, so there is no ladder to climb. What the pack does give you is a long list of wood, plant and decoration recipes.[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest involving Regions Unexplored, so whether the pack's quest book points to this mod anywhere is not confirmed. If you want to be sure, look through the quest chapters in game.

Wood sets

Most of the crafted items are wood sets. Blackwood and Baobab each have crafting recipes for planks, wood, slabs, stairs, fences, fence gates, doors, trapdoors, buttons, pressure plates, signs, hanging signs, boats and chest boats. Examples are Blackwood Planks and Baobab Planks.[3]

The Blue Bioshroom has a similar set, including Blue Bioshroom Planks, Blue Bioshroom Block and Blue Bioshroom Hyphae, plus slabs, stairs, doors, fences, signs and more.[3]

There is also a recipe for Alpha Planks with matching Alpha Slab and Alpha Stairs recipes, and recipes for Black Painted Slab and Black Painted Stairs.[3]

Saplings and shrubs

Shrubs have shapeless crafting recipes for the matching sapling. For example, Baobab Shrub gives Baobab Sapling, and Blackwood Shrub gives Blackwood Sapling. The pack lists the same kind of recipe for many other trees, including Maple, Palm, Willow, Redwood, Magnolia and Wisteria.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

Shrubs themselves can be crafted too: Baobab Shrub, Birch Shrub, Acacia Shrub and Ashen Shrub all have crafting recipes. Branches such as Birch Branch and Acacia Branch have recipes named after the matching log.[3]

Other crafted items

Ashen Dirt has separate crafting recipes named after dirt, peat dirt and silt dirt. Ash, Black Snowbelle and Blue Magnolia Flowers are crafted too.[3]

How does Regions Unexplored work with other mods?

1 part

The only connection to another mod that the pack's recipes confirm is with Productive Trees. The pack adds sawmill recipes that turn Sawdust into Regions Unexplored planks, so the Productive Trees sawmill becomes another way to get wood from this mod.[3]

Sawdust to planks in the sawmill

Each recipe is a straight conversion: you put sawdust into the Productive Trees sawmill and get a specific type of Regions Unexplored planks. These recipes are added by the pack.[3]

6× Maple PlanksAdded by the pack

Sawmill (productivetrees)

Recipe id: allthemods:productivetrees/sawing/regions_unexplored/maple_planks

Maple is an example. The other plank types follow the same pattern in the sawmill.

The pack has a sawing recipe like this for each of these plank types:[3]

Tip: If you have a Productive Trees sawmill running and sawdust piling up, you can turn that sawdust into Regions Unexplored planks, whichever wood type you need.[3]

Which Regions Unexplored config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide

There isn't much to tune here. Regions Unexplored is a worldgen mod: it overhauls Overworld and Nether generation with 64 new biomes plus a pile of new blocks and items, so most of what it does is baked into the world you generate rather than exposed as sliders you flip mid-playthrough.[1]

Unverified No config files for this mod were found in the pack, so there are no pack-changed values to document. Assume the mod is running on its own defaults, and treat any option list you find elsewhere as unconfirmed for this pack and version.

One thing worth knowing instead of a config: the mod's dependencies differ by version. On 0.6 and above it needs Lithostitched 1.7.9 or above (plus Fabric API on Fabric); on 0.5.9 and below it instead needs TerraBlender, with Forge Config API Port and Fabric API on Fabric. If you're adding or removing mods alongside it, that's the wiring to keep intact.[1]

Watch out: Because this mod changes how the Overworld and Nether generate, any change you make to worldgen behaviour only shows up in chunks that haven't been generated yet. Plan on a fresh world if you want the full set of biomes laid out properly.[1]

The mod has no wiki or fully up-to-date biome list of its own, so if you're hunting for a specific biome, expect to do some exploring rather than reading a table. Questions and update notes live in the developer's Discord.[1]

What changed in Regions Unexplored between versions?

3 parts

All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships Regions Unexplored 0.7.0+beta2 (the NeoForge build). The mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. Here's what the two most recent mod releases changed.[2]

0.7.0+beta2 (the version in this pack)

  • Placing down an RU boat no longer crashes the game.[5]

0.7.0+beta1

  • The mod was ported to 26.1.[6]
  • Redstone Bulbs and Prismarite Clusters can now be placed facing any direction.[6]
  • A handful of existing block textures were refreshed: Blackwood Planks, Short Dry Grass (and its Red variant), Frozen Grass, Glistering Sprout, Flowering Leaves, Salmonberry, Hanging Earlight Fruit and Icicle.[6]

Known issues listed for 0.7.0+beta1

  • Pale Oak Branch and Shrub are missing.[6]
  • Ashen babies lack a new model and texture, so for now Ashen will not be able to spawn as a baby.[6]
  • Prismoss and Deepslate Prismoss lack proper item tinting.[6]
Tip: The 0.7.0+beta2 changelog only lists the boat crash fix. It doesn't say whether the known issues above were fixed, so check in your own world before counting on them.[5][6]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for this mod were available, so any changes the pack itself made to Regions Unexplored across its releases are unverified.
