What is L_Ender's Cataclysm?

1 part

L_Ender's Cataclysm is all about difficult dungeons, challenging boss fights and powerful items. You beat the bosses to prove yourself, and your reward is some seriously strong gear. This pack runs version 3.31 of the mod.[1][2]

If you enjoy combat and want real boss fights to test your gear, this is your mod. Each boss lives in its own structure. The pack's Cataclysm quest chapter uses a set of Eyes to lead you to them:[1][3]

Cataclysm and the ATM Star

Cataclysm is also part of the ATM Star path. The ATM Star chapter asks for three items from this mod: Abyssal Sacrifice, Meat Shredder and Void Forge.[4]

  • The quest calls "Abyssal Sacrifice" quest the easiest of the three. It's the same item you use to wake up the Leviathan.[3][4]
  • For "Meat Shredder" quest, you first need to beat The Harbinger. You find it in the Ancient Factory deep underground in the Overworld, and you power it up by feeding it a Nether Star. The quest warns that this is a very difficult and long fight.[4]
  • "Void Forge" quest is the hard one. You need to kill 2 bosses and a miniboss: The Harbinger, the Netherite Monstrosity at the Soul Blacksmith in the Nether, and the Ender Golem in the Ruined Citadel in the End. Everything comes together at the Mechanical Fusion Anvil.[4]
Tip: The Harbinger sits on the path to both the Meat Shredder and the Void Forge. If you're going for the ATM Star, gear up for that fight early.[4]

How do you get started with L_Ender's Cataclysm?

5 parts

Cataclysm is all about difficult dungeons, challenging boss fights and powerful items, so your first steps are about finding a boss and earning its gear. The good news is that the mod gives you a clear starting point: the Eyes.[1]

Step 1: Craft an Eye

Each Eye points you to one structure and its boss, and the Eye quests in the Cataclysm chapter unlock after a quest called "Eye see you!". Pick the boss you want to tackle first:[3]

Heads up: in this pack the recipes for the Eye of Desert, Eye of Storm, Eye of Curse and Eye of Mech are changed from the mod's defaults. Always check the recipe shown here instead of relying on other guides. The Eye of Desert is a good example:[5]

Step 2: Get Ancient Metal from the Cursed Pyramid

Ancient Metal is a drop from pretty much everything inside the Cursed Pyramid. You can use it for Bone Reptile Armor, which the quest describes as giving very good stats for cheap armor, or for the Ancient Spear.[3]

To wake the Ancient Remnant, brush the Suspicious Sand in the side rooms of the big shaft. The Necklace of the desert can drop from it, and you right-click the Remnant with it to resurrect it. See "Necklace of the desert" quest for the details.[3]

Step 3: Ignitium from the Ignis

To fight the Ignis, you first need to beat the Ignited Revenant to get Burning Ashes. Use them on the Altar of Fire to summon the Ignis. The ashes can also be crafted from a Dying Ember.[3][5]

Watch out: The Ignis drops only 1 Ignitium Ingot, so decide carefully whether it goes into armor upgrades or weapons.[3]

Step 4: Prepare for the Leviathan

Waking the Leviathan needs an Abyssal Sacrifice. The quest points out that the Nautilus Shell and Heart of the Sea are rare, but Deeplings can drop them. The Athame comes from Deepling Warlocks and Priests, and the coral part comes from the Coral Golem and Coralssus. This pack changes both versions of the recipe: one uses Crystallized Coral and the other uses a Coral Chunk.[3][5]

Later: Witherite and the Fusion Anvil

The Harbinger always drops 1 Block of Witherite, which can be made into 9 ingots. Witherite is needed for the Mechanical Fusion Anvil, which combines Cataclysm items. This pack changes its recipe.[3][5]

How does L_Ender's Cataclysm work?

4 parts

Cataclysm describes itself as a mod that adds difficult dungeons, challenging boss fights and powerful items. The sources for this pack explain it through structures, bosses, item abilities and config values, so that is what this section covers.[1]

Structures and boss progression

Most of the mod's progression is built around finding structures and then waking or summoning the bosses. The advancements name the structures to look for: the Ancient Factory, Burning Arena, Cursed Pyramid, Ruined Citadel, Frosted Prison and Sunken City.[6]

The bosses are started in different ways, according to the advancement descriptions. You summon Ignis, the Leviathan and Maledictus. You wake the Harbinger. For the Ancient Remnant, you excavate suspicious sand inside the Cursed Pyramid to wake it up.[6]

The Abyssal Sacrifice

The pack changed how the Abyssal Sacrifice is crafted, and there are two recipes for it. Both are shown below.[5]

The Coral Chunk version, also changed by the pack. It needs the Athame too.

Item abilities

Many of the mod's items work through use actions. Two examples you can craft from the recipes in this pack:[5][6]

What the pack changed

The pack makes the fights much tougher than the mod defaults. The Ender Guardian gets an attack multiplier of 8 and a health multiplier of 20, and the Harbinger gets 8 and 12 (the mod default for each is 1). The config file is where you would look if you want to adjust any of this.[7]

Watch out: Expect the fights to be far harder than in the standalone mod. The Ender Golem's health multiplier is 20 and the Baby Leviathan's is 10, up from 1, so come well prepared.[7]

How do you progress through L_Ender's Cataclysm?

5 parts

Cataclysm progression in this pack runs through one quest chapter. You craft an Eye to find a boss structure, fight the boss, then use its drops to unlock the next tier of gear. Every Eye quest sits behind the same "Eye see you!" quest, so you can pick your first boss in whatever order you like.[3]

Step 1: Craft an Eye and pick a boss

The pack changes the recipes for the Eyes of Desert, Storm, Curse and Mech. The Eyes of Abyss, Flame, Monstrous and Void use the mod's own recipes. Check the Desert Eye below as an example of a pack-edited Eye.[5]

Step 2: Wake the boss properly

Some bosses need an extra trigger on top of finding the structure. For the Ancient Remnant you need Necklace of the desert, which you can find by brushing Suspicious Sand in the side rooms of the big shaft in the Cursed Pyramid ("Necklace of the desert" quest). For the Ignis you need Burning Ashes, which you get by beating the Ignited Revenant first ("Burning Ashes" quest). For the Maledictus you need Strange Key, which the Aptrgangr carries ("Strange Key" quest).[3]

The Leviathan needs an Abyssal Sacrifice ("Abyssal Sacrifice" quest). The pack changes this recipe, and it comes in two variants, both shown below.[3][5]

Where the extras come from: Coral Golems and Coralssus drop Crystallized Coral and Coral Chunk, and Deepling Warlocks and Priests drop the Athame.[3]

Tip: The Abyssal Sacrifice is also the easiest Cataclysm item you need for the ATM Star, so it is worth getting early.[4]

Step 3: Material tiers

Ancient Metal is the entry tier. It drops from nearly everything in the Cursed Pyramid, and nuggets, ingots and blocks convert between each other ("Ancient Metal" quest). The quest says the Bone Reptile Helmet and Bone Reptile Chestplate have no special effects but very good stats for cheap armor, and that the Ancient Spear outdamages a Netherite Sword.[3]

Ignitium comes from the Ignis, which drops only 1 ingot, so spend it wisely ("Ignitium" quest). The quest calls it an upgrade for Netherite armor ("Ignitium Armor" quest). The Ignitium quest also leads on to The Incinerator, Bulwark of the Flame and Blazing Grips.[3]

Cursium comes after the Maledictus: the untitled Cursium quest (a quest in "Cataclysm") follows it in the quest book. The quests for The Annihilator, Soul Render and Cursed Bow all come after that Cursium quest.[3]

Witherite comes from The Harbinger, which always drops 1 block, and that block can be made into 9 ingots ("Wither plus Netherite = ...?" quest). It is the gate for Meat Shredder, Laser Gatling, Wither Assault Shoulder Weapon and the Mechanical Fusion Anvil. The pack changes all four of those recipes.[3][5]

Step 4: Fusion gear

The Mechanical Fusion Anvil is the hub for the top tier. Put one item in the left slot and the other in the middle slot, and the result appears in the right slot. It has no durability, and the quest points you to JEI for the recipes.[3]

In the quest chapter, Gauntlet of Bulwark, Gauntlet of Maelstrom, Wrath of the Desert, The Immolator and Void Forge all come after the Mechanical Fusion Anvil quest. The recipes below show three of the fusion results: The Immolator, the Void Assault Shoulder Weapon and the Ignitium Elytra Chestplate.[3][5]

How does L_Ender's Cataclysm work with other mods?

2 parts

Cataclysm is mostly self-contained, but the pack ties it into its own progression with a couple of custom recipes and quest links. Here's what the sources confirm.[3][4][5]

Pack-added recipes that use Cataclysm items

The pack adds recipes that take Cataclysm items as ingredients alongside items from other mods. They are shaped recipes defined through KubeJS, so you won't find them in the base mod.[5]

The first makes the Dragon Soul. One of its inputs is the Abyssal Sacrifice. The rest come from several other mods, including Allthemodium, Apothic Enchanting, Eternal Starlight, Occultism and Productive Trees.[5]

The second makes the Oblivion Shard. From Cataclysm it needs the Meat Shredder and the Void Forge. The other inputs come from EvilCraft, Forbidden Arcanus, Steve's Carts and Twilight Forest.[5]

Quest connections

The Abyssal Sacrifice also shows up outside the Cataclysm chapter. The ATM Star chapter has its own quest, "Abyssal Sacrifice" quest, which calls it the easiest item you'll need from Cataclysm for the ATM Star. In the quest book it comes after the Cataclysm quest.[4]

The Cataclysm chapter's own Abyssal Sacrifice quest, "Abyssal Sacrifice" quest, points you at Deeplings. They can drop the rare Nautilus Shell and Heart of the Sea you need, and they also drop the Athame. Coral Golems and Coralssus drop the coral part. The quest says the ingot blocks and Amethyst are plain vanilla items.[3]

The Infernal Forge is a Netherite Monstrosity drop that works as a pickaxe. According to its quest, "Infernal Forge" quest, it mines up to Netherite tier, so it can break Allthemodium Ore.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use L_Ender's Cataclysm?

5 parts

Cataclysm shows up in two quest chapters in this pack. The big one is the Cataclysm chapter, which walks you through the boss summons, the drops and the fusion weapons. The ATM Star chapter then picks out three Cataclysm items you need for the star.[3][4]

Cataclysm chapter: the Eyes

Everything starts with the quest called Eye see you!. After it, each Eye gets its own quest, and each one points you at a boss structure.[3]

Waking the bosses

Some bosses need an extra item before they will fight. "Necklace of the desert" quest has you dig up the Necklace of the desert from Suspicious Sand to resurrect the Ancient Remnant. "Abyssal Sacrifice" quest asks for the Abyssal Sacrifice to wake the Leviathan. "Burning Ashes" quest wants Burning Ashes, which you get from the Ignited Revenant, to summon the Ignis at the Altar of Fire. "Strange Key" quest asks for the Strange Key, dropped by the Aptrgangr, to get you to the Maledictus.[3]

Drops and what unlocks them

After the bosses, the chapter branches by what you killed. Each quest below comes after the boss or mob named in it.[3]

Fusion quests

The last tier of quests all come after "Mechanical Fusion Anvil" quest, because they need the Mechanical Fusion Anvil. Each also needs the earlier quests listed here.[3]

Chapter 3: The ATM Star

This chapter has three Cataclysm quests, and each one comes after the Cataclysm chapter. They share names with quests above but are separate quests.[4]

Which L_Ender's Cataclysm config options matter?

6 parts

Almost everything worth tweaking in Cataclysm lives in config/cataclysm-common.toml. This pack changed a big chunk of it from the mod defaults. Bosses are much tougher and hit harder, and most of the gear cooldowns are much shorter.[7]

Boss health and attack multipliers

Each mob has a health multiplier and an attack multiplier, and both default to 1. These are the main difficulty dials, and the pack raised them for most bosses.[7]

Damage caps

The pack also raised the cap values for most bosses. Here are the damage cap and DPS cap for each, with the mod default in brackets.[7]

Boss healing

Weapon cooldowns and damage

The pack cut the cooldowns on Cataclysm's gear to roughly a quarter of the mod default. Here is each value with the default in brackets. The file doesn't state the unit.[7]

Other changed values worth knowing

Mob griefing, respawners and music

The pack has mobs.leviathan.ignore_mobgriefing_config.ignore_mobgriefing set to true for the Leviathan. The same goes for Ender Guardian, Harbinger, Ignis, Maledictus, Netherite Monstrosity, Scylla and Ancient Remnant. It is false for Clawdian, Ender Golem and Kobolediator.[7]

mobs.leviathan.immune_out_of_water is true, and mobs.ender_guardian.separate_phase_music is true, as is the same option for Ignis and Leviathan. The Ender Guardian, Harbinger, Netherite Monstrosity, Scylla and Ancient Remnant all have their respawner option set to true.[7]

Unverified The config file has 74 more options that weren't available when this section was written, so this list isn't complete.
