What is Farmer's Delight?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Farmer's Delight is a cozy expansion to farming and cooking. It gently builds on the vanilla farming loop, so you can turn familiar ingredients into a wide variety of hearty meals using a simple cooking system.[1]

The food ranges from sandwiches and salads to stews, desserts and full feasts. The mod is built so that no ingredient gets left behind in your kitchen.[1]

What else it adds

  • A way to improve the soil your crops grow in.[1]
  • New tools and weapons for hunting and gathering.[1]
  • Decorations for your builds, plus many other blocks and items to help along the way.[1]

Who it is for

If you like a relaxed side of modded Minecraft, with food and farming that feel like part of your base, this mod is for you. It is a good fit for anyone who wants cooking to be more than eating raw crops and bread.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Farmer's Delight 1.3.3, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Tip: The mod's own advancements explain many of the basic concepts and are a good place to start. Pick up any item, then press L (the default key) to open the Advancements screen.[1]

How do you get started with Farmer's Delight?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

The best way to learn Farmer's Delight is to follow its advancements. They cover most of the basic concepts. Pick up any item, then press L (the default key) to open the Advancements screen and see what to do next.[1]

The order below follows those advancements: make a knife, collect Straw, set up a Cutting Board, find the new wild crops, and then start cooking.[3]

Step 1: Craft a knife

Your first real tool is a knife. It's a light melee weapon with fast swings and gentle damage, but its main job is gathering. With a knife you can harvest Straw from grasses, and animals always drop their secondary drops. You also need something lighter than a sword to cut Ham from Pigs or Hoglins.[3]

Watch out: This pack changes the recipes for the Golden Knife and the Diamond Knife. Check the recipes shown here or in-game instead of relying on older guides.[4]

Step 2: Collect Straw and make Canvas

Harvest grass, wheat or rice with your knife to collect Straw. Straw is a dry plant fiber used in crafting. One of its first uses is Canvas.[3][4]

Step 3: Set up a Cutting Board

The Cutting Board lets you break an item down. Hold a tool in your hand and use the board.[3]

Step 4: Find the wild crops

The mod's crops grow wild in many climates, and you can sometimes find them in chests too. Here's where to look:[3]

  • Cabbage and beetroot grow wild on beach coasts.[3]
  • Carrots and onions grow in temperate lands, such as plains and forests.[3]
  • Potatoes grow in cold lands, such as mountains and taigas.[3]
  • Tomatoes grow in arid lands, such as savannas and deserts. Hang some rope above a tomato crop to make it grow taller.[3]
  • Rice grows in the ponds of wet lands, such as swamps and jungles. Plant the grains in a shallow water puddle.[3]

Step 5: Start cooking

Place a Campfire to cook some food, then build a Cooking Pot and put it down to start preparing meals.[3]

Meals are worth the effort because of their effects. Warm bowl meals give Comfort, which provides natural regeneration no matter how hungry you are. Plated meals give Nourishment, which prevents hunger loss, except when saturation is used to heal damage.[3]

Watch out: This pack changes the recipes for the Chicken Sandwich, the Bacon Sandwich and the Hamburger. Always check the in-game recipe for these.[4]

How does Farmer's Delight work?

7 parts

Farmer's Delight is a gentle expansion to farming and cooking. It uses a simple cooking system and a lot of familiar ingredients to turn raw crops into hearty meals: sandwiches, salads, stews, desserts and shareable feasts. Alongside that it adds ways to improve the very soil your crops grow in, new tools and weapons for hunting and gathering, and a pile of decorative blocks.[1]

Tip: There is no book for this mod. Its advancements are the intended tutorial, and they explain most of the basic concepts one step at a time, so pick up any Farmer's Delight item and open the Advancements screen (L by default) to see what to do next.[1]

Cooking: pots, campfires and skillets

The heart of the mod is the Cooking Pot. Place one down and you can start preparing meals in it. A finished pot holds a number of servings of whatever meal you cooked, and its tooltip tells you how many servings are waiting inside.[3]

Campfires are the other basic heat source, and placing one down is enough to start cooking food on it.[3]

Skillets let you cook on the go. Sneak to place a Skillet down as a block, or keep it in hand: stand near a heat source and hold food in your other hand to cook it while you travel.[3]

Some meals are big enough to be placed down as a feast block and shared with friends, rather than eaten straight from the stack.[3]

Cutting Board

The Cutting Board breaks items down instead of building them up. Place one, hold a tool, and use the board to process the item sitting on it into its parts. Which tool you hold matters, since different tools break down different things.[3]

Knives, straw and secondary drops

A Knife is a lightweight melee weapon with fast swings and gentle damage, and it doubles as a gathering tool. Knives scavenge extra goods from plants and animals, and they guarantee the secondary drops animals can give. Cutting a Pig or a Hoglin with one yields Ham, a large cut of meat from the leg that a Sword is simply too heavy to carve out.[3]

Harvesting grass, wheat or rice with a Knife also collects Straw, a dry plant fiber used in crafting. Straw is what feeds the mod's textile chain: it becomes Canvas, which in turn becomes the farmersdelight:basket, Canvas Rug and the dyeable Canvas Sign family.[3][5]

If you want the best version, a Netherite Knife costs a whole Netherite Ingot to upgrade. There is also a Backstabbing enchantment in the mod, which amplifies the damage you deal when you strike a target from behind.[3]

Soil, compost and crops

Organic Compost is the mod's soil system. Place it down and it slowly decays into Rich Soil, a straight upgrade for your farmland. Composting goes better with sun, water and mushrooms nearby.[3]

  • Decomposition is sped up by adjacent water.[3]
  • Decomposition is also sped up by adjacent activator blocks, which the recipe viewer lists next to the process.[3]

Very rich soil is also what lets Mushroom Colonies grow. Once a colony is fully mature, shear it to harvest it rather than breaking it.[3]

Two crops have their own placement rules. Rice is planted as grains in a shallow water puddle, and tomatoes grow taller if you hang a rope above the crop so it can climb.[3]

Finding the new crops

Four new crops spawn as wild plants across many climates, and they can also turn up in chests. Wild patches give you your first seeds, so keep an eye out while exploring.[3]

  • Beach coasts: wild cabbages and wild beetroots.[3]
  • Temperate lands such as plains and forests: wild carrots and wild onions.[3]
  • Cold lands such as mountains and taigas: wild potatoes.[3]
  • Wet lands such as swamps and jungles: wild rice, in ponds.[3]
  • Arid lands such as savannas and deserts: wild tomatoes.[3]

Meal effects

Meals are split into two broad styles with their own buffs. Warm bowl meals grant Comfort, which provides natural regeneration regardless of how hungry you are. Plated meals grant Nourishment, which prevents hunger loss except when you are spending saturation to heal damage.[3]

A few drinks and snacks do their own thing: Hot Cocoa clears one harmful effect, and Melon Juice gives minor instant health. Dog Food and Horse Feed are meant for others rather than you, with tooltips describing what happens when you feed them to a tamed Wolf or a tamed mount.[3]

Not every tomato ends up in a sandwich, either. A Rotten Tomato can be thrown, and hitting a raider with one is its own little achievement.[3]

Crates, cabinets and storage

Bulk produce compresses into crates such as Cabbage Crate, Carrot Crate and Beetroot Crate, and each one uncrafts straight back into the loose crop. For kitchen storage there is a Cabinet in every wood type, including Acacia Cabinet, Birch Cabinet, Cherry Cabinet, Bamboo Cabinet and Crimson Cabinet.[5]

Unverified The available sources for this pack don't document the item-handling behaviour of Baskets and Cabinets (hopper-like transfer, filtering or automation), nor exact cooking times, serving counts or the full list of compost activator blocks. Farmer's Delight adds no power or fluid network of its own in anything the sources cover, so treat any automation beyond standard hopper and pipe interaction as untested until you check it in game.

How do you progress through Farmer's Delight?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

The easiest way to plan your Farmer's Delight progression in this pack is to follow its crafting recipes. Start with a knife and a couple of kitchen workstations, then build up straw and canvas materials, and finally work toward the bigger multi-step meals. Every recipe card below shows the exact in-pack version, so you can trust it over older guides.[4]

Knife tiers

Knives come in four material tiers: the Flint Knife, the Iron Knife, the Golden Knife and the Diamond Knife. The flint and iron versions use the mod's own recipes. This pack has changed the golden and diamond recipes.[4]

Kitchen workstations

Your two core kitchen blocks are the Cutting Board and the Cooking Pot. Both use the mod's standard recipes in this pack. The Cutting Board is the cheaper of the two, so it's a good first craft.[4]

Straw, canvas and compost

Straw is one of the mod's key materials. It crafts into Canvas, and Canvas is what you need for the farmersdelight:basket, the Canvas Rug, the Canvas Sign and the Hanging Canvas Sign. You can dye both sign types into any colour, and a Canvas Rug crafts back into Canvas if you change your mind.[4]

Crops and storage

Once your farm is running, crates keep your crops compact. You can craft the Cabbage Crate and Onion Crate back into loose Cabbage and Onion. There are also the Carrot Crate, Potato Crate and Beetroot Crate. If you end up with loose Cabbage Leaf, you can craft them back into a whole Cabbage.[4]

Working up to meals

  1. Start with the simple crafted foods, such as the Honey Cookie, Melon Juice, Egg Sandwich or Nether Salad.[4]
  2. Next, craft a Pie Crust, which leads into the Apple Pie and Chocolate Pie. You can also put slices back together into a full pie.[4]
  3. Then get some Cooked Rice. It's part of the Cod Roll, the Kelp Roll and the Honey Glazed Ham.[4]
  4. Finally, make a Beef Patty for the Hamburger. The Honey Glazed Ham also needs Smoked Ham, so it sits near the end of the chain.[4]
Tip: This pack has changed the recipes for the Bacon Sandwich, Chicken Sandwich, Hamburger, Mixed Salad and Mutton Wrap. Use the in-game recipe viewer for these instead of the mod's default recipes.[4]

How does Farmer's Delight work with other mods?

2 parts

In this pack, the connections between Farmer's Delight and other mods come from three recipes. All of them are Farmer's Delight cutting recipes that take a log or wood block from another mod and give you a stripped version plus Tree Bark.[5]

Deeper and Darker wood

Two cutting recipes cover Echo wood. Cutting an Echo Log gives you a Stripped Echo Log and Tree Bark. Cutting Echo Wood gives you Stripped Echo Wood and Tree Bark.[5]

Silent Gear Netherwood

Silent Gear's Netherwood has its own cutting recipe. It gives you a Stripped Netherwood Log and Tree Bark. The recipe id sits under an integration path for Silent Gear, so it was added specifically to link the two mods.[5]

Tip: All three recipes give you Tree Bark as a byproduct of stripping. That makes these logs another way to collect it.[5]

Which Farmer's Delight config options matter?

The Farmer's Delight project page says modpack makers are free to customize the mod as they see fit. That means a pack can change config values or recipes compared with the mod's defaults.[1]

Unverified No config files for Farmer's Delight were available for this pack, so I can't confirm any option names or values, or which ones the pack changed from the mod defaults. To avoid showing you a mod default as if it were the pack's setting, I'm leaving specific options out of this section.

What changed in Farmer's Delight between versions?

3 parts

All the Mods 10 1.17a ships Farmer's Delight 1.2.5 (the 1.21.1 build). The mod was first included in All the Mods 10 0.32 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's most recent releases.[6]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for this mod were available, so this history comes only from the mod's own changelogs.

1.2.5 (the version in this pack)

  • Farmer Villagers can now plant, harvest and collect drops from Cabbage, Tomato and Onion. Rice is excluded, because the farmer AI couldn't handle it without extensive changes.[7]
  • In 1.2.5, a new tag farmersdelight:campfire_signal_smoke was added: blocks in it make Campfires emit signal smoke, like the Hay Bale does.[7]
  • In 1.2.5, Knives became effective at mining Pumpkins (normal and carved) and Melons. Mining a Pumpkin with a Knife gives 4 Pumpkin Slices instead of a whole unit, and Carved Pumpkins are unaffected.[7]
  • Skillets are now waterloggable, but they can't cook underwater, either handheld or as a block.[7]
  • In 1.2.5, Canvas Signs were added to the vanilla signs and hanging_signs item tags, and some crafting recipes became properly grouped in the recipe book.[7]
  • Tomatoes were temporarily removed from the crops tag, because bee pollination was breaking ropelogged vines unpredictably. The changelog says this will likely be addressed in the next major release.[7]
  • 1.2.5 fixed meal duplication when using containers against a Cooking Pot block, then closing and reloading the world.[7]
  • For the 1.21 build, 1.2.5 fixed these: Kelp Roll (whole) had wrong food stats, Skillets couldn't be enchanted in an anvil, Knives couldn't receive Knockback and Looting, Cutting Boards couldn't handle two valid tools for the same input, and Skillets didn't lose durability when attacking mobs.[7]
  • 1.2.5 added translations for be_by, da_dk, en_gb and tok, and updated several others.[7]

1.2.4a

  • Fixed a crash when placing a Mangrove Cabinet, Canvas Signs or Hanging Canvas Signs.[8]
  • Fixed a sporadic crash caused by item override registration.[8]
  • Fixed the meal duplication bug with containers and the Cooking Pot.[8]

1.2.4

This release moved the 1.21 tags from the forge namespace to the c namespace, with a few changes. Many tags now live in the c:foods/ subgroup, except c:crops/grain, since those items are inedible. Many tags with specific subgrouping were sunsetted. For example, forge:vegetables/tomato was phased out in favor of c:foods/tomato, but tomatoes are still added to c:foods/vegetables.[9]

There were also these tag changes: farmersdelight:wolf_prey was removed in favor of c:foods/raw_meat, and c:foods/safe_raw_fish was added. It is a version of c:foods/raw_fish that doesn't include Pufferfish.[9]
