What is Farmer's Delight?

1 part

Farmer's Delight is a cozy expansion to farming and cooking. You prepare hearty meals with a simple cooking system, from sandwiches and salads to stews and desserts. It also adds a way to improve the soil your crops grow in, new tools and weapons, and decorations for your builds.[1]

This pack ships Farmer's Delight 1.3.4.[2]

If you want a gentle intro to the basics, pick up any item and press L (the default key) to open the Advancements screen. The mod's own advancements explain many of the core concepts.[1]

Where the quest book puts it

The pack's quest book does not treat Farmer's Delight as a cooking chapter. It sits in the "Building Tips" chapter, which is chapter 3 of 70 and holds 63 quests. The quest is "Farmer's Delight" quest, and it focuses on using the mod's items for decoration as well as food.[3]

The path to it runs through the chapter's decoration branch: "Building Tips!" quest leads to "Decoration!" quest, then to "Decor Mods!" quest, and Farmer's Delight comes after that. Two other kitchen and furniture mod quests share the same parent: "Cooking for Blockheads" quest and "CobbleFurnies" quest.[3]

The quest text points you at the Stove, Pots and Pans for a kitchen, the Food Barrels for a pantry, the farm items for outdoor decor, and the Cabinets for anywhere. No quest in the part of the chapter I can see comes after it. The chapter has 30 more quests whose text isn't shown here, so check the quest book itself for anything further down the line.[3]

Nothing in the quest source ties this quest to the ATM Star path, so treat it as an optional building and decoration quest rather than a progression step.[3]

How do you get started with Farmer's Delight?

5 parts

Farmer's Delight is a cozy expansion to farming and cooking: hearty meals, a way to improve the soil your crops grow in, new tools, and decorations. Here is the order I'd go in, so you're eating well before you know it.[1]

In this pack's quest book, "Farmer's Delight" quest sits in the Building Tips chapter, right after Decor Mods!. Its text pitches the mod as farming and cooking food, with the same items doubling as kitchen, pantry and outdoor decoration.[3]

Step one: open the advancements

The mod's own advancements explain many of the basic concepts, and they are a good place to start. They kick off with "A world of flavor awaits you!"[1][4]

Tip: Pick up any item, then press L (the default key) to open the Advancements screen.[1]

Step two: make a Cooking Pot

The Cooking Pot is where meals get prepared. The advancement for it says to put one down and start preparing meals, so it's the first thing worth crafting.[4]

For a first dish, try Apple Cider. It's one of the cooking recipes in the pack.[5]

Step three: get a knife and a cutting board

Next, craft a Knife to scavenge extra goods from plants and animals. Then use a Cutting Board with a tool in hand to break an item down. Many recipes in the pack ask for a knife, so this pair pays off quickly.[4][5]

A good first knife job is turning raw beef into Minced Beef. You can then cook that into a Beef Patty in a furnace, and the pack also has campfire and smoker versions.[5]

Step four: start your farm

Four new crops can be found in the wild across many climates, or maybe in a chest somewhere. Cutting a Wild Cabbage with a knife gives you Cabbage Seeds and yellow dye.[4][5]

Rice Crops is planted in a shallow water puddle. Harvesting grass, wheat or rice with a knife gives you Straw. Later on, Organic Compost slowly decays into Rich Soil, an upgrade for your farms.[4]

Machine shortcuts in this pack

The pack changes some machine recipes for this mod. One example is Create milling Rice Panicle into rice and straw. Wild cabbage also has Create milling and Immersive Engineering crusher recipes that give seeds and yellow dye.[5]

How does Farmer's Delight work?

6 parts

Farmer's Delight describes itself as a simple cooking system. The sources for this pack show a handful of hands-on stations: the Cooking Pot, the Cutting Board, the Skillet and a few heat sources. Here is how they work in this pack.[1][4]

Cooking Pot

The Cooking Pot is where you prepare meals. The mod's own advancement for it says to put one down and start preparing meals. It is crafted like this:[4]

Pot meals use their own recipe type, called cooking. Bone Broth and Baked Cod Stew are two examples. Many of these recipes ask for "any" item from a shared tag, such as bones, mushrooms, eggs or tomatoes, instead of one fixed item, so matching items from other mods can count too.[5]

Cutting Board and knives

The Cutting Board breaks items down. Hold a tool, then use the board on the item. If the item can't be cut, the board tells you "This doesn't seem cuttable...". If the item is fine but your tool is wrong, it says "Maybe with a different tool...". Some cuts need several uses, and the board shows how many remain.[4]

Board recipes have their own recipe type, called cutting, and each one names the tool it needs. Meat and pies call for a knife. Logs call for an axe, and the Acacia Log gives you Tree Bark plus the stripped log.[5]

The pack adds everything in the common knife tool tag to the mod's own knives tag. Knives from other mods are therefore treated as knives by the mod's systems, and the cutting recipes above accept any knife from the common tag.[5][6]

Knives are also useful out in the world. The mod's advancements say a Knife scavenges extra goods from plants and animals, extracts Ham from Pigs or Hoglins, and collects Straw when you harvest grass, wheat or rice with it.[4]

Heat: Skillet, campfire and stove

The Skillet lets you cook on the go. Stand near heat, then hold the food in your other hand. You can also sneak to place it down as a block. Food that can't be cooked this way gives "This can't be cooked...", and a flooded Skillet gives "Can't cook while flooded...". The mod also has a Stove block, and one of its advancements has you place a Campfire to cook food.[4]

Minced Beef shows how the usual heat sources overlap. You can turn it into a Beef Patty in a furnace, a smoker or over a campfire.[5]

One pack change affects the meat chain. The Mekanism sawing recipe for Cooked Chicken Cuts is marked as changed by the pack. It turns cooked chicken into the cuts plus bone meal.[5]

Feasts and storage

Some meals are big enough to be placed down and shared. Honey Glazed Ham is one of them. When you try to eat from a feast block you may be told "You need a %s to eat this.", where the game fills in the container item you need.[4][5]

Crops pack down into crates. A Cabbage Crate unpacks into 9 Cabbage.[5]

Farming systems

  • Rice must be planted in shallow water. Otherwise the game says "This seed must be planted in shallow water."[4]
  • Organic Compost slowly decays into Rich Soil, an upgrade for your farms. The compost works better with sun, water and mushrooms.[4]
  • A fully mature Brown Mushroom Colony can be sheared, and growing them this way needs very rich soil.[4]
  • Hanging rope above a tomato crop makes it grow taller.[4]

Pack changes to know about

The pack ships a market preset for the mod's seeds. It is enabled, and its payment is 1 of the pack's valuable token item. The Brown Mushroom Colony also has a Farming for Blockheads market recipe, which is marked as changed by the pack.[5][7]

    Recipe id: farmingforblockheads:market/farmersdelight/brown_mushroom_colony

The pack also adds Onion to the common onion tags, and the mod's wheat dough to the common dough tags. That way recipes from other mods that ask for onions or dough accept the Farmer's Delight versions.[8][9]

How do you progress through Farmer's Delight?

    5 parts

The pack does not set up a tier ladder for Farmer's Delight. The quest book gives it a single quest, "Farmer's Delight" quest, in the "Building Tips" chapter (chapter 3 of 70). It comes right after "Decor Mods!" quest. The quest frames the mod around farming, cooking and decor: the Stove, Pots and Pans for a kitchen, Food Barrels for a pantry, farm items for outdoors, and Cabinets for anywhere.[3]

So the stages below follow the in-pack recipes instead, from your first dishes up to machine automation.[5]

    Stage 1: the Cooking Pot

Here is the in-pack recipe for the Cooking Pot. Dishes such as Apple Cider and Fish Stew use the mod's cooking recipe type.[5]

    Stage 2: knives and cutting

Many cutting recipes accept any knife. The pack adds the shared knife tag to the mod's own knives tag, so knives from other mods work too. For example, cutting Wild Cabbage with a knife gives Cabbage Seeds and yellow dye.[5][6]

      Recipe id: farmingforblockheads:market/farmersdelight/cabbage_seeds

Stage 4: automating with other mods

      Mixing (create)

      Recipe id: farmersdelight:integration/create/mixing/pie_crust_from_mixing

      Small pack tweaks

The pack tags Onion in the shared onion tags, so recipes that accept any onion take it. It also adds Farmer's Delight wheat dough to the shared dough tags.[8][9]

How does Farmer's Delight work with other mods?

      4 parts

Farmer's Delight connects to several other mods in this pack through recipes. The recipe dump marks every one of them as changed by the pack, so what you see here is the pack's own setup and not the mods' defaults.[5]

      Bark from modded logs

Farmer's Delight's cutting recipes are extended to logs from other mods. Cutting them gives you the stripped version of the log and also Tree Bark. Silent Gear's Netherwood works this way.[5]

Which All the Mons quests use Farmer's Delight?

      3 parts

Farmer's Delight has one quest in the pack's quest book: "Farmer's Delight" quest. It sits in the "Building Tips" chapter, which is chapter 3 of 70 in the book. That chapter is about decorating and building rather than farming, so the quest treats the mod as a decor mod.[3]

      The path to the quest

The quest is a few steps down the chapter's decoration branch. Here is the order:[3]

      1. "Building Tips!" quest is the chapter's opening quest. It says the chapter is a set of building tips.[3]
      2. "Decoration!" quest comes after it. It points out that modded Minecraft has dozens of mods for decoration, plus even more that add items you can use for decoration.[3]
      3. "Decor Mods!" quest comes after Decoration!. It covers mods the quest author found perfect for decorating your house or base.[3]
      4. "Farmer's Delight" quest comes after Decor Mods!.[3]

What the Farmer's Delight quest asks for

It is an item task, and the quest book entry doesn't name a specific item. The quest text says the mod is all about farming and cooking food items, and that you can use those same items for decoration.[3]

The text suggests where to use them. The Stove, Pots and Pans suit a kitchen, and the Food Barrels suit a pantry. The farm items work as outdoor decor, and the Cabinets fit anywhere.[3]

      Neighbouring quests

Farmer's Delight is one of several quests that unlock after Decor Mods!. The others are listed below, so you can work through them in any order you like.[3]

Which Farmer's Delight config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 1.17a guide

The Farmer's Delight project page says modpack makers are free to customize the mod as they see fit. That means a pack can change config values or recipes compared with the mod's defaults.[1]

Unverified No config files for Farmer's Delight were available for this pack, so I can't confirm any option names or values, or which ones the pack changed from the mod defaults. To avoid showing you a mod default as if it were the pack's setting, I'm leaving specific options out of this section.

What changed in Farmer's Delight between versions?

      5 parts

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Farmer's Delight 1.3.4, the 1.21.1 build of the mod. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first. Entries marked 1.21+ in those changelogs apply to this pack, since the pack uses the 1.21.1 jar.[2][10][11]

      1.3.4

      • Fixed a broken behavior when pushing Feasts with Pistons.[10]
      • Fixed the generateFDChestLoot config not properly disabling Farmer's Delight's extra chest loot generation (1.21.1+).[10]

      1.3.2

      • Fried Rice and Chicken Soup were nerfed down to the 3-minute tier of meals, because they were so easy to cook.[11]
      • Rice Bag was removed from the straw_blocks tag, since it isn't made with Straw. It was added directly to mineable/knife instead.[11]
      • New fuel values: Straw Bale smelts 5 items, and Rope Fence and Rope Fence Gate smelt 1 item each.[11]
      • Fuel values moved into a NeoForge datamap, furnace_fuels.json (1.21+). The FuelItem and FuelBlockItem classes are deprecated.[11]
      • Fixed Rope Fences not holding leashed animals in some circumstances, Pumpkins having inverted slicing logic with Silk Touch, and a Cutting Board crash when Fortune is disabled through datapacks (all 1.21+).[11]
      • Fixed an occasional crash caused by a tag reference load order.[11]

      1.2.11

      • The farmersdelight:feasts tag is now added to c:edible_when_placed, and Ropes are tagged under c:ropes (1.21+).[12]
      • Canvas Rug and Tatami Mats now have their own stepping sounds.[12]
      • Statistics are now awarded for using tools on the Cutting Board, cutting cakes and pies with Knives, and taking servings from feasts with containers.[12]
      • Fixed Mushroom Colonies floating without support when under a light level of 13 (1.21+).[12]

      1.2.10

      • Villagers can now consume Farmer's Delight crops to become willing to breed.[13]
      • New tags farmersdelight:snacks and farmersdelight:sweets, and all Farmer's Delight foods are now properly tagged inside c:foods (1.21+).[13]
      • c:foods/milk is being sunsetted in favor of c:drinks/milk, and all Farmer's Delight recipes now use the new tag (1.21+).[13]
      • Fixed the foodEffectTooltip config not affecting the tooltip of vanilla foods with effect overrides.[13]
      • Fixed non-contained meals, like Dumplings, being deleted when the same meal was used against the pot to serve it.[13]

      1.2.9

      • Rich Soil Farmland can now be hydrated by any fluid type capable of hydration.[14]
      • Wild Cabbage and Sea Beet can now generate on any biome tagged minecraft:is_beach.[14]
      • Fixed the Cooking Pot allowing players to cook and store up to 99 servings (1.21+).[14]
      • Fixed Rabbit Stew not returning bowls after being eaten (1.21+).[14]
      • Fixed Create integration milling recipes never finishing processing (1.21+).[14]
      • As a temporary fix for a crash, the Cooking Pot can no longer be opened in spectator mode.[14]

Unverified Changelogs for releases other than the ones above, and any changes the pack itself made to this mod, were not available, so anything in those is unverified.
