What is Forbidden and Arcanus ?
Forbidden and Arcanus adds magical themed content in a style that could fit vanilla Minecraft. It also brings a lot of new building related blocks, which gives you plenty of new options for decorating and construction.[1]
This pack includes version 2.5.17 of the mod. It has been part of the pack since version 1.0 or earlier, so it is a long-standing part of the mod list and not a recent addition.[2]
The mod's project page points to a video tutorial that covers most of its features. It's a good place to start if you want to see the magical content in action before you try it yourself.[1]
The sources I have for this section don't show the mod's recipes, config options or quests in this pack, so I'm not going to guess at them here. Check the in-game recipe viewer for the exact in-pack recipes.[1][2]
How do you get started with Forbidden and Arcanus ?
4 parts
Forbidden & Arcanus adds magical-themed content and a lot of building blocks. Here is the order I'd start crafting in this pack, with the exact in-pack recipes shown for each step.[1]
Start with Arcane Crystal Dust
First, make Arcane Crystal Dust from an Arcane Crystal Dust Speck. The Deorum Ingot recipe in this pack needs the dust, and it also feeds later recipes like Arcane Bone Meal and Aureal Bottle.[3]
Make your Deorum Ingot
Next comes Deorum Ingot. Doors, glass, chains, arcane edelwood planks and arcane polished darkstone all use it. The pack changed this recipe, so follow the one below and not a recipe from the mod's default version.[3]

This recipe is changed by the pack.
What to do with your Deorum
With a few ingots you can start on the building side of the mod. Make Deorum Glass and turn it into Deorum Glass Pane. Deorum Chain and Deorum Door use Deorum too, and you can compact ingots into a Deorum Block.[3]
Arcane Polished Darkstone is a good next step. It is made from Polished Darkstone and a Deorum Ingot, and it also comes as a pillar, slab, stairs and wall.[3]
Crafting Shaped

The arcane pieces then combine with polished darkstone into a Darkstone Pedestal.[3]

Other early crafts
- Aurum Planks unlock a full wood set: slab, stairs, door, trapdoor, fence, fence gate, button, pressure plate and boat.[3]
- Arcane Edelwood Planks are made from Edelwood Planks and a Deorum ingot. A door and a trapdoor follow from them.[3]
- Clibano Core is crafted using Darkstone and a vanilla blast furnace, so it is shown below.[3]

How does Forbidden and Arcanus work?
2 parts
Forbidden & Arcanus adds magical-themed content in a vanilla-friendly style, plus a lot of building blocks. The sources I have for this pack only cover the deeper machine mechanics in small pieces, so this section is short on purpose. I'd rather give you what's confirmed than guess.[1]
Hephaestus Forge upgrading
The mod has a recipe viewer category called Hephaestus Forge Upgrading, so you can look up those upgrade recipes in JEI. The mod also has a Reinforced Deorum Blacksmith Gavel item, but the sources here don't say what it does.[4]
Smithing upgrades
The mod includes a darkstone upgrade smithing template. Its base slot description reads "Add armor, weapon, or tool", so that is what you place in the base slot when applying the upgrade.[4]
The pack also has a crafting recipe for the Smithing Template item. Here is the exact in-pack recipe.[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show how the mod's machines and multiblocks work in detail, such as their structure, item, power or fluid handling, or automation. No in-jar guidebook was found for this mod and the pack has no config files for it, so check the recipe viewer in game before you build around any of this. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you progress through Forbidden and Arcanus ?
5 parts
Unverified The sources here show no quests for Forbidden and Arcanus, and the mod is not on the main quest path, so there is no quest-guided order for it. Everything below is read from the in-pack recipes.
Without quests to guide you, the recipes set the order. Wood and Darkstone are the cheap basics, Deorum is the key material in the middle, the arcane blocks build on Deorum, and Obsidiansteel and the dragon scales feed the top-end items.[3]
Wood and Darkstone basics
The cheapest items are the wood sets. Edelwood Planks are crafted from Edelwood logs, and Aurum Planks from the mystery wood logs tag. Both unlock the usual set: doors, trapdoors, fences, buttons, pressure plates, slabs, stairs and boats. Edelwood also gets a ladder and the Edelwood Bucket. Plain Darkstone gives you slabs, stairs and walls.[3]
Deorum
Deorum Ingot is the key material. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's version, so use the in-pack recipe below. The dust it needs, Arcane Crystal Dust, is crafted from Arcane Crystal Dust Speck.[3]

This recipe was changed by the pack.
Arcane Crystal Dust is crafted from a single speck.
Once you have ingots you can compress them into a Deorum Block or split them into Deorum Nugget items. Deorum also unlocks the Deorum Door, Deorum Trapdoor, Deorum Chain, Deorum Glass, Deorum Lantern and Deorum Soul Lantern.[3]
Arcane upgrades
Deorum is the upgrade ingredient for Arcane Polished Darkstone and Arcane Edelwood Planks. The darkstone version also gives you a pillar, slab, stairs, wall and chiseled variant. The planks give you an arcane door and trapdoor.[3]

The Darkstone Pedestal needs the arcane pillar and slab, so it sits in this stage too.[3]

Obsidiansteel and dragon scales
The top-end items need Obsidiansteel Ingot or dragon scales. Obsidiansteel is an input for Dark Nether Star, Corrupti Dust and Cracked Obsidian Skull. Dragon scales lead to the Aquatic Dragon Scale and, with a golden scale, the Arcane Dragon Egg.[3]

Side items
- Clibano Core is built from Darkstone and a blast furnace.[3]
- Smithing Template is built from Darkstone and a Netherite upgrade template.[3]
- Quantum Catcher has dyed variants, such as Blue Quantum Catcher and Black Quantum Catcher.[3]
- Diamond Blacksmith Gavel is crafted from a Blacksmith Gavel Head, which is made from clay balls.[3]
How does Forbidden and Arcanus work with other mods?
4 parts
Forbidden and Arcanus is wired into several other mods in this pack, mostly through recipes the pack added or changed. Here is where the connections show up.[3]
Ex Deorum sieve
The pack added sieve recipes that give you Arcane Crystal and Growing Edelwood. Arcane Crystal comes from sifting Dust, and Growing Edelwood comes from sifting Moss Block. The Iron Mesh, Golden Mesh, Diamond Mesh and Netherite Mesh each have their own recipe for both results. Here are the iron mesh versions.[3]

Sawing mystery wood
The pack adds sawing recipes for Aurum Planks, Edelwood Planks and Fungyss Planks in both Mekanism and Productive Trees. The Mekanism sawing recipe turns the matching logs or stems into planks and also gives you Sawdust.[3]
Sawing (mekanism)
- any edelwood log
Recipe id: allthemods:mekanism/sawing/forbidden_arcanus/edelwood_planks
Mekanism sawing: the planks come with Mekanism sawdust.
The Productive Trees sawmill makes the same planks from the matching logs, but this recipe uses Sawdust as an input instead of producing it.[3]
Sawmill (productivetrees)
2× Sawdust
- any edelwood log
Recipe id: allthemods:productivetrees/sawing/forbidden_arcanus/edelwood_planks
Productive Bees
Productive Bees has Forbidden and Arcanus recipes that the pack changed. In bee conversion, an Arcane Crystal Block is converted into the Arcane Crystal bee, and a Rune Block is converted into the Rune bee.[3]

The centrifuge also has changed recipes for honeycombs. Each one gives you Wax plus a mod item: Arcane Crystal, Deorum Nugget or Rune. The Stellarite honeycomb gives you both Stellarite Piece and Xpetrified Orb along with the wax.[3]
Centrifuge (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/forbidden_arcanus/honeycomb_stellarite
The Stellarite honeycomb gives Stellarite Piece and Xpetrified Orb, plus wax.
Philosopher's Fuel
A Deorum Block is one of the ingredients in the pack's shaped recipe for Philosopher's Fuel. The recipe also pulls in items from many other mods, such as the Draconic Reactor Core, the Insanium Coal Block and the Eclipse Ember Block.[3]

Unverified The sources here show no quests involving this mod, so any quest-based links to other mods are not confirmed. Check the pack's quest book for anything more.
What changed in Forbidden and Arcanus between versions?
2 parts
All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0.2 ships Forbidden and Arcanus 2.5.17. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so the notes below come from the mod's own 2.5.17 changelog.[2]
Changes in 2.5.17
- Added a spectral_vision_unaffected entity tag. Entities in this tag are not highlighted by the Spectral Eye Amulet.[5]
- Fixed a duplication bug related to doors.[5]
- Fixed the Deorum Trapdoor not being mineable with a pickaxe.[5]
- Added missing translations for the Hephaestus Forge JEI integration.[5]
- Added missing dust item tags for arcane_crystal, mundabitur and corrupti.[5]
Experimental content
The 2.5.17 changelog also lists a few things behind the Update 2.6 Experiment Feature Flag. The Magic Wand can shoot an Aureal projectile, it has a new use animation, and a wand charge indicator shows on the crosshair while you charge a spell. The player aureal bar now shows while you hold a Magic Wand. A Mortar block was added too, but it has no use for now.[5]
