What is Draconic Evolution?

3 parts

Draconic Evolution is an end-game tech mod. It adds high-tier tools and armor, very large RF energy storage, and a grab bag of other features such as teleportation, mob farming, player detection, and time and weather control. This pack ships version 3.1.4.633.[1][2]

Tip: The mod's own project page admits its description is ancient and needs updating, so treat that feature list as a rough guide. The pack's quest chapter is the better roadmap.[1]

Where to start

The pack's quest chapter starts you off by mining Draconic Ore to get Draconium Dust. The ore spawns in all vanilla dimensions, but there is the most of it in the End. From there, Draconium Core is a vital ingredient in many recipes, especially for Basic tier items.[3]

The big ideas

  • Modules: your Draconic Evolution items don't work without them. Most modules are made from a Module Core or from a previous module. Hold an item and press Shift and C to open the module menu, where the slots and grid decide how many modules fit.[3]
  • Energy storage: the Energy Core is the heart of the Energy Core multiblock, which the quests call one of the greatest energy banks in Minecraft. Its tiers set how big and powerful it is, and the Build Guide in its GUI shows how to assemble each one.[3]
  • Starting size: Tier 1 of the Energy Core stores 45,500,000 RF and needs only the core plus 4 Energy Core Stabilizer blocks.[3]
  • Gear tiers: the quests walk you through Basic, Wyvern, Draconic and Chaotic tiers. Many of the chapter's quests are for the matching modules.[3]

A boss to prepare for

The chapter also covers the Chaos Guardian fight. Its first stage is breaking 14 Guardian Crystals that hold the boss's shield, and you can't hurt him until they are gone. The quest warns that this is no easy task without a Draconic weapon.[3]

The quests also call energy OP, so you'll see that term in their descriptions.[3]

How do you get started with Draconic Evolution?

5 parts

Draconic Evolution adds high-tier tools and armor and high-tier RF energy storage. It is a big mod, so take it one step at a time. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]

Step one: find Draconium

The opening quest "Draconic Evolution" quest tells you to mine Draconic Ore to get Draconic Dust. It spawns in all vanilla dimensions, but there is the most of it in the End. The item the quest checks for is Draconium Dust.[3]

If you already have Draconium Ingots, the pack adds crushing recipes that turn an ingot into dust. They work in Create, Immersive Engineering, Mekanism and Occultism, and there is also a hand recipe with an ore hammer.[4]

Step two: craft a Draconium Core

The quest "Basic (Draconium) Core" quest calls the Draconium Core a vital ingredient in many recipes, especially for Basic Tier items. Make a few early, because you'll keep coming back to them.[3]

Step three: learn how modules work

Your Draconic Evolution items don't work without modules. Most modules are made from a Module Core or from a previous module. Hold an item and press Shift and C to open the Module Menu. The slots are where modules go, and the grid decides how many fit.[3]

Energy modules are the most important ones, since they are needed to use DE items. Start with "Basic Energy Module" quest. The energy module decides how much OP an item can hold and take in, and later tiers hold more.[3]

Step four: build an Energy Core

The Energy Core is the heart of the Energy Core multiblock, a very large energy bank. Its GUI has Build Guide, Tier Down, Tier Up and Assemble Core buttons. If you have all the blocks for a tier, Assemble Core builds it for you.[3]

Tier 1 only needs the core and 4 Energy Core Stabilizer blocks, and it stores 45,500,000 RF. The quest "Energy Core Stabilizers" quest says the first 4 tiers of cores need only 4 stabilizers around them.[3]

Watch out: Place the core a bit off the ground. If a stabilizer is too close to the core or in the wrong spot, the core tells you it's incorrect.[3]

To get power in and out you need Energy Pylon blocks. Place at least 2 near the core, one for input and one for output. Put glass over them and they assemble automatically, targeting the closest Energy Core. Right-click the ball that forms on top of each pylon to switch it between input and output. Then attach crystals to move OP in and out. The quest is "Power comes and goes through these" quest.[3]

Step five: set up Fusion Crafting

Many of the mod's later recipes use the fusion crafting recipe type. These include the Wyvern, Draconic and Chaotic injectors, the Draconium Chest and the Reactor Core. To start, craft the Fusion Crafting Core and a Draconium Fusion Crafting Injector.[4]

How does Draconic Evolution work?

7 parts

The mod's project page describes Draconic Evolution as end game tech: high tier energy storage (RF), teleportation, mob farming, player detection, time and weather control, and powerful tools and armor. The parts below are the ones the sources explain.[1]

Energy Core and the controller tiers

The Energy Core is the mod's big RF storage multiblock, and its screen is titled by tier ("Tier %s Energy Core"). The screen has Assemble Core, Activate and Deactivate buttons, plus Tier Up and Tier Down. If the structure is wrong it tells you "Core structure invalid." If the stabilizers are wrong you get "Stabilizer configuration invalid." The screen can also show "(Advanced stabilizers required)". There is a Toggle Build Guide button, which helps while you place blocks.[1][5]

The mod has an Energy Core Stabilizer block and an Energy Pylon block. You can set an Energy Target in the core's screen, but it is for display purposes only. It accepts plain numbers or scientific notation such as 9.223E18. The screen also lets you configure the core's colour and switch the legacy renderer on or off.[5]

The controllers come as the Wyvern Energy Controller, the Draconic Energy Controller and the Chaotic Energy Controller. Here are the pack's recipes for the last two.[4]

Moving power with crystals

The language file lists Relay, Wireless and I/O crystal blocks, each in Basic, Wyvern and Draconic variants. Its messages for linking include "Devices linked.", Clear Links and Clear Receivers, and the HUD labels Charge and Links.[5]

Here is the pack's recipe for the Basic Wireless Energy Crystal.[4]

Fusion crafting

Many of the mod's top items use their own recipe type, fusion crafting. The language file names a Fusion Crafting Core and Fusion Crafting Injectors in four tiers: Draconium, Wyvern, Draconic and Chaotic. In the pack, the recipes for the Draconic Core, the Chaotic Fusion Crafting Injector and the Awakened Draconium Block use the fusion crafting type.[4][5]

Processing draconium in this pack

The pack adds its own crushing recipes that turn Draconium ingots and Awakened Draconium ingots into dust. They exist for Create, Occultism, Immersive Engineering and Mekanism, so you can use whichever machines you already have. The Create version has a processing time of 300, and the Immersive Engineering crusher uses 3,200 energy.[6]

Teleportation with the Dislocator

The Dislocator screen has a list of locations. The item's own text says to sneak and right click to bind your current X, Y and Z coordinates, the direction you are facing and the dimension you are in at that moment.[4][5]

  • The screen text says Ender Pearls are used as teleport fuel, and that the Fuel number is the total number of teleports remaining. Buttons add 1, 16 or all of the Ender Pearls from your inventory.[5]
  • The screen text says right click can switch between "Teleport to Selected" and "Blink", and that you can also configure keybindings.[5]
  • The screen text says to double left click to rename an entry and to left click and drag to move it. Set Here updates the selected location to your coordinates. There is also an edit lock toggle, with a "(must be unlocked)" hint.[5]

Here is the pack's recipe for the Dislocator Pedestal.[4]

Other machines worth knowing

  • Draconium Chest: the language file lists an Auto-Smelt feature with four modes. Off does nothing. All feeds every smeltable item into the furnace. Filtered feeds items already being smelted. Filtered (Sticky) is the same but keeps one item so the filter persists. There is also a Change Chest Color option.[5]
  • Disenchanter: the language file shows its screen text as "Level of Enchant" and "XP Cost in Levels".[5]

Unverified Energy Core tier capacities, crystal transfer rates and stabilizer placement are not shown in the sources here. The mod has no in-jar guidebook in the sources and the pack has no config files for it, so those details are not confirmed. The Reactor Core, Reactor Energy Injector and Reactor Stabilizer blocks exist in the mod's language file, but how the reactor works is not covered here.

How do you progress through Draconic Evolution?

7 parts

Draconic Evolution in this pack is built around four tiers: Draconium (the quests call it Basic), Wyvern, Draconic and Chaotic. You climb them through fusion crafting, an energy network and a long line of modules. Here's how the quests lay that path out.[3]

Step 1: Draconium and the Basic Core

The first quest, "Draconic Evolution" quest, sends you to mine Draconic Ore for Draconium Dust. It spawns in all vanilla dimensions, with the most in the End.[3]

Next comes "Basic (Draconium) Core" quest. The Draconium Core is a vital ingredient in many recipes, especially Basic tier items.[3]

Step 2: Fusion crafting and the injector tiers

Most of the fun items are made by fusion crafting. In "Fusion Crafting" quest you place a Fusion Crafting Core about a block above the ground. You then put injectors a few blocks away, facing the core on two of its sides. The core is also where recipes can be auto-placed from JEI.[3]

The injector you use sets the crafting tier. "Basic Tier" quest explains that injectors sit to the left and right of the core. They form a cross shape, with a maximum of 5 on each side. To power them, connect Relay I/O Crystals.[3]

Each injector tier is built from the one below it. The Draconium injector is a normal crafting recipe, and the other three are fusion recipes.[4]

Step 3: Energy (OP)

Draconic Evolution's energy is called OP. "What is Energy or as we call it, OP?" quest says the main way to move it is with I/O Relay Crystals, and it hands you the Crystal Binder. To get OP into items you need an Energy Transfuser, covered in "Adding OP to items" quest. The item also needs an Energy Module installed, since that sets how much OP it can store.[3]

Energy Core tiers

The Energy Core is the big storage multiblock. Its GUI has a Build Guide, Tier Down, Tier Up and Assemble Core button. If you have all the blocks, Assemble Core builds it for you. Pylons handle input and output, and the first 4 tiers need only 4 Energy Core Stabilizer blocks around the core.[3]

Step 4: Module tiers

"Modules!" quest explains that DE items don't work without modules. Hold an item and press Shift and C to open the module menu. Most modules are made from a Module Core or from the previous module.[3]

The quests follow the same four-tier ladder. For example, "Basic Energy Module" quest leads to "Wyvern Energy Module" quest. Likewise, "Wyvern Speed Module" quest comes after "Basic Speed Module" quest. A higher Energy Module tier lets items hold and use more OP, but upgraded items also use more OP per use.[3]

Flight shows the jump between tiers well. The Wyvern Flight Module lets you glide, like an Elytra without the armor cost. The Draconic Flight Module gives both gliding and actual creative flight.[3]

Chaotic modules are the top rung. They follow the Draconic version in the quest chain, and the in-pack recipe for Chaotic Flight shows the pattern.[3][4]

Step 5: Cores for Draconic and Chaotic gear

The higher tiers need better cores. A Draconic Core (Draconic Core) is fusion-crafted, and a Chaotic Core is fusion-crafted from the Draconic Core. A Chaos Shard is made from Large Chaos Fragment.[4]

Which All the Mons quests use Draconic Evolution?

    6 parts

Most of what this mod asks of you lives in a single quest chapter called Draconic Evolution. It's a long chapter, and it branches into a few lines you can follow in roughly this order: getting started, energy, fusion crafting, the Energy Core tiers, and the module upgrade chains.[3]

    Getting started

The chapter opens with "Draconic Evolution" quest, which asks for Draconium Dust. The quest says you get it by mining Draconic Ore, which spawns in all vanilla dimensions, with the most in the End. Next comes "Basic (Draconium) Core" quest, which asks for a Draconium Core. Both fusion crafting and the energy quests unlock after it.[3]

    Fusion crafting

    1. "Fusion Crafting" quest asks for the Fusion Crafting Core. The quest calls this how most of the fun items get made, and says the injectors go a few blocks away from the core.[3]
    2. "Basic Tier" quest asks for the Draconium Fusion Crafting Injector. It explains that the injector decides the fusion tier, going Draconium, Wyvern, Draconic, then Chaotic.[3]
    3. After that, "Draconium Chest" quest asks for the Draconium Chest, and "Basic Energy Relay Crystal" quest asks for the Basic Energy Relay Crystal.[3]

    Energy (OP)

"What is Energy or as we call it, OP?" quest also unlocks after the Draconium Core quest and asks for the Crystal Binder. Two quests follow from it. "Moving OP" quest accepts a Basic, Wyvern or Draconic I/O crystal and covers linking crystals together. "Adding OP to items" quest asks for the Energy Transfuser and covers charging your items.[3]

    Energy Core tiers

"Energy Core Mulitblock" quest asks for the Energy Core. From there, "Energy Core Stabilizers" quest asks for the Energy Core Stabilizer, and "Power comes and goes through these" quest asks for the Energy Pylon. The tier quests then run in a chain:[3]

    • "Tier 1" quest: stores 45,500,000 RF and needs the core plus 4 stabilizers.[3]
    • "Tier 2" quest: stores 273,000,000 RF and adds 6 Draconium Blocks, one on each side of the core.[3]
    • "Tier 3" quest: stores 1,640,000,000 RF and needs 26 Draconium Blocks fully encasing the core.[3]
    • "Tier 4" quest: stores 9,880,000,000 RF. It needs 26 Redstone Blocks encasing the core, then 56 Draconium Blocks above them.[3]

The chapter continues with "Tier 5" quest, "Tier 6" quest, "Tier 7" quest and "Tier 8" quest. I can't confirm what they require from the text I have.[3]

    Modules

"Modules!" quest asks for the Module Core and explains that DE items don't work without modules. Almost every module quest unlocks after it, and each one asks for a single module item. The upgrade lines go Basic, then Wyvern, then Draconic, then Chaotic.[3]

    The Chaos Guardian

"Locate and Destroy 14 Guardian Crystals" quest unlocks after a quest called "Where is he?" and asks for Draconium Infused Obsidian. It explains that you must break the crystals shielding the Chaos Guardian before you can damage him. Later, "Chaos Shard{s}" quest unlocks after a quest called "Kill the Chaos Guardian" and asks for the Chaos Shard. According to the quest, mining where the lightning strikes grants 5 Chaos Shards.[3]

Unverified The chapter also has quests for Wyvern, Draconic and Chaotic tools and armor, plus the reactor line (Building the Reactor, Reactor Stabilizers, Reactor Energy Injector and Fuel for our Reactor). The quest data I have was cut off before their tasks, so I can't confirm what they ask for. A separate Apothic Spawners chapter also contains an untitled quest with a Draconic subtitle, and its requirements are unconfirmed as well.

What changed in Draconic Evolution between versions?

    3 parts

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Draconic Evolution 3.1.4.633. The pack has included this mod since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier.[2]

This section is built from the mod's own changelogs for its most recent builds, listed below from newest to oldest. They are all bug fixes.[7][8][9]

3.1.4.633 (the version in this pack)

    • Insta-kill damage no longer sometimes bugs out. When too many mods modify damage and death events (the changelog names Apothic Attributes and Relics as an example), dealing too much damage could leave an entity in a semi-dead state. Lowering the damage dealt prevents that.[7]
    • Added the missing death message for Chaos Implosion.[7]
    • Energy Links no longer only take the minimum energy. The flow is now saved to the module, so it isn't reset every tick.[7]
    • Existing worlds are protected from breaking. An earlier change to the Energy Link entity added a new codec that could stop worlds with an existing Energy Link from loading. The codec is now optional.[7]

    3.1.4.632

    • Fixed the soul drop rate with water animals.[8]

    3.1.4.630

    • Fixed the Draconic pickaxe mining level.[9]
    • Fixed the flight module sometimes rapidly draining capacitors.[9]
    • Fixed an edge case crash with the disenchanter.[9]
    • Fixed the energy core energy readout.[9]
Tip: If you already have Energy Links in a world, the 3.1.4.633 change makes the new codec optional, so those existing links should not stop the world from loading.[7]
