What is The Twilight Forest?
1 part
The Twilight Forest is part of the pack at version 4.3.2508, and it was already in the pack by version 0.0.45.4 or earlier. I don't have a guidebook or a description of the mod to draw on, so this section sticks to where the pack's quest book puts it.[1]
Where the quest book places it
The mod has no chapter of its own. Its items turn up in the "ProjectE Philo Stone" chapter, which sits in the "Production" group and is chapter 33 of 44 in the book. That chapter has 113 quests, and most of them ask you to hand in items from many different mods.[2]
Two Twilight Forest items are asked for. The first is Fiery Tears: a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" wants 4 of them, and several single-item Fiery Tears quests, such as a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone", follow it. The second is the Ur-Ghast Trophy: a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" wants 2 of them, and single-item quests such as a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" and a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" come after it.[2]
Each of those single-item quests is listed as coming after a quest with the same title. The Fiery Tears and Ur-Ghast Trophy quests are not set apart from the rest of the chapter. They sit alongside quests for items from other mods, such as Cataclysm eyes and Soul Stars.[2]
How do you get started with The Twilight Forest?
3 parts
Welcome to the Twilight Forest! Before you make anything, it helps to know how this pack treats the dimension. You don't start there. The setting [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Dimension Settings.newPlayersSpawnInTF]] is false, so new players spawn as normal and have to travel to the forest themselves.[3]
Step 1: Follow the quest book
The quest book has a quest called "Visit the TWILIGHT FOREST" quest, which asks you to enter the dimension. It sits in the chapter "The Beginning" (Storyline group, chapter 4 of 44). It comes after an untitled checkmark quest, which itself comes after "Welcome" quest. The quests to visit the Nether, the End and the Lost Cities hang off that same checkmark quest. This guide doesn't include the text of 25 of the 58 quests in that chapter, so open the quest book to read the rest.[4]
Step 2: Know the portal rules
- Portal creation is switched on, because disablePortalCreation is false.[3]
- Portals are only allowed from the origin dimension, which is originDimension set to the overworld. allowPortalsInOtherDimensions is false.[3]
- The portal checks up to 64 water spaces, set by maxPortalSize.[3]
- The return portal works without an activation item, because shouldReturnPortalBeUsable is true.[3]
Step 3: Early things worth making
Once you're in, Raw Ironwood can be blasted into Ironwood Ingot.[5]
Raw Meef can be cooked into Meef Steak on a campfire, in a smoker or in a furnace. The pack also adds an alloy smelter recipe for it.[5]
Alloy Smelting (enderio)
Recipe id: enderio:smelting/twilightforest/food/smelted_meef
This alloy smelter recipe is added by the pack.
How does The Twilight Forest work?
8 parts
The sources for this pack show Twilight Forest systems built around portals, a few block-based devices, boss loot handling and some crafting quirks. They do not show any power, fluid or item-pipe machinery for the mod. Here is how it all works in this pack, based on its config file and recipes.[3][5]
Portals and getting in
The portal is a pool of water. maxPortalSize is the most water spaces the mod will check when forming one, and the pack sets it to 64. Portals can be made in the Overworld, set by originDimension, and nowhere else, because allowPortalsInOtherDimensions is off. The return portal is usable straight away, because shouldReturnPortalBeUsable is true.[3]
- Anyone can make a portal: adminOnlyPortals and disablePortalCreation are both false.[3]
- No advancement gates the portal, because portalUnlockedByAdvancement is left empty.[3]
- New players do not start in the dimension: [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Dimension Settings.newPlayersSpawnInTF]] is false.[3]
- Portals are not pre-checked for safety, because checkPortalDestination is false. Per its description, turning it on makes portals fail to form instead of redirecting to a safe spot.[3]
- portalLightning is false here. Its description says setting it true stops the portal lightning from setting things on fire.[3]
The Uncrafting Table is off
The pack sets [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Uncrafting Table.disableUncraftingTable]] to true. Per the config, that disables any usage of the table and stops it showing up in loot or being crafted. [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Uncrafting Table.disableUncrafting]] is also true, so the normal reverse-crafting function is off too. The XP multipliers for uncrafting and repairing are both 1, but they only matter if the table is turned back on.[3]
Magic tree cores
Four magic tree cores are available: Minewood, Sortingwood, Timewood and Transformation. None are disabled, and each has a working radius of 16 blocks. The radius can be set anywhere from 1 to 128 with [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.miningCoreRange]], [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.sortingCoreRange]], [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.timeCoreRange]] and [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.transformationCoreRange]]. The matching disable options, such as [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.disableMiningCore]], are all false.[3]
Carminite and the Carminite Reactor
The Carminite Reactor has its own crafting recipe, and you can pack carminite into a Block of Carminite. The in-game advancement for the knight's tomb says that once you settle the restless phantoms, the carminite tower's devices will obey you.[5][6]

Boss loot and death caskets
With boss_drop_chests on, bosses put their drops in a chest where they originally spawned. Knight Phantoms are the exception, because their drops work differently.[3]
Keepsake Caskets, which spawn when a player dies, are not locked to their owner here, because uuid_locking is false. Server operators can open locked caskets either way. If you want a protected casket on a server, that is the option to flip.[3]
Shield parrying
You can parry a projectile for 40 ticks after raising a shield, set by [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Shield Parrying.shieldParryTicksArrow]]. Only Twilight projectiles can be parried, because [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Shield Parrying.parryNonTwilightAttacks]] is false.[3]
Crafting and automation hooks
The mod has 64 stonecutting recipes across 34 different results. One example turns a Bold Castle Brick Pillar into Bold Castle Brick Stairs. Another turns an Acacia log into a Hollow Acacia Log.[5]

For automation, the pack adds a Botany Pots crop recipe for the Canopy Tree Sapling. It yields a stick, a Canopy Tree Log, another sapling and a Liveroot. The Clover Patch also has a Botany Pots recipe, which is a mod recipe rather than a pack addition.[5]
Crop (botanypots)

Pack-specific recipes
The pack adds a recipe that turns a set of boss trophies into 4 Quest Ram Trophy. It also adds an Aurora Block recipe that makes 8 blocks at a time.[5][7]

How do you progress through The Twilight Forest?
6 parts
The sources I have for this pack don't lay out a boss-by-boss order for the Twilight Forest, so I won't invent one. What they do show is how the quest book gates the dimension and where it asks for Twilight Forest materials. Those are the tiers below: Ironwood, Knightmetal and Fiery.[4][5]
Getting in
The entry point is "Visit the TWILIGHT FOREST" quest in the chapter "The Beginning" (group Storyline, chapter 4 of 44 in the book). It is a dimension quest. It comes after the same untitled checkmark quest that leads to the Nether, End and Lost Cities visit quests, so it is one of several dimension trips the book offers early on.[4]
Ironwood
Ironwood Ingot comes from Raw Ironwood. The normal furnace and blast furnace recipes are there, and the pack adds an EnderIO alloy smelting recipe for the same job.[5]
Alloy Smelting (enderio)
Recipe id: enderio:smelting/twilightforest/material/smelted_ironwood_ingot
This EnderIO alloy smelting recipe is added by the pack.
If you run Mystical Agriculture, the ironwood essence recipe gives 4 ingots per craft. A Block of Ironwood turns back into 9 ingots.[5]
Knightmetal
Knightmetal Ingot is made from Armor Shard Cluster. As with ironwood, the furnace and blast furnace recipes exist and the pack adds an EnderIO alloy smelting version.[5]

The Knightmetal Shield has its own crafting recipe built on the ingots and a knightmetal loop.[5]

Fiery
Fiery Ingot is crafted from an iron ingot and a fiery vial, using the tag the mod defines. You can also get it from the Mystical Agriculture fiery ingot essence recipe, which gives 2 ingots per craft. A Block of Fiery Metal turns back into 9 ingots.[5]

Where the quest book asks for them
- The "Extended Crafting" chapter (group Production, chapter 37 of 44) has ingot quests for Ironwood Ingot (a quest in "Extended Crafting"), Knightmetal Ingot (a quest in "Extended Crafting") and Fiery Ingot (a quest in "Extended Crafting"). 32 quests in that chapter weren't available to me, so check the book for the rest.[8]
- In the "AllTheModium" chapter (group Production, chapter 36 of 44), the quest a quest in "AllTheModium" asks for a Block of Fiery Metal. It is one of the quests that a quest in "AllTheModium", the Vibranium Ingot quest, comes after, alongside Bucket of Life, Insanium Essence and Allthemodium Ingot.[9]
- In the "ProjectE Philo Stone" chapter (group Production, chapter 33 of 44), a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" asks for 4 Fiery Tears and a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" asks for 2 Ur-Ghast Trophy. Both are among the quests that a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone", the Philosopher's Stone quest, comes after.[2]
Trophies and endgame crafting
The pack adds its own crafting recipe that turns a set of Twilight Forest boss trophies into 4 Quest Ram Trophy. Open the recipe below to see exactly which trophies it takes.[5]

How does The Twilight Forest work with other mods?
6 parts
The Twilight Forest shows up in this pack mostly as an ingredient. Its metals, armor and tools feed into recipes from other mods, and a few of those recipes are ones the pack added or changed. Here is what the recipe dump and the quest book confirm.[5]
Mystical Agriculture
Mystical Agriculture has its own recipe that turns Fiery Ingot Essence into Fiery Ingot, and it makes 2 ingots per craft. This is a regular mod recipe, not a pack change.[5]
Shaped No Mirror (cucumber)
Recipe id: mysticalagriculture:essence/twilightforest/fiery_ingot
The seeds are a different story. The pack added an Extended Crafting combination recipe for Fiery Ingot Seeds, and it needs 8 Block of Fiery Metal. Other ingredients come from other mods, including the pack's own Tier 4 crafting seed.[5]
Combination (extendedcrafting)
Recipe id: combination_mysticalagriculture:fiery_ingot_seeds
Steeleaf Seeds work the other way round. The pack added a Botania runic altar recipe that uses 4 Steeleaf together with items from several other mods.[5]
Runic Altar (botania)
Recipe id: botania:kjs/2ybus72gx8uy165hl92pcr6gc
Creative-tier crafting
Two of the pack's creative-tier recipes use Twilight Forest items. The pack-added Extended Crafting combination for The Everlasting Guilty Pool needs 2 Armor Shard Cluster. The pack-added table recipe for the Creative Energy Cell needs a Knightmetal Ingot.[5][10]

Avaritia Infinity gear
The pack changed the Extended Crafting recipes for the Avaritia Infinity gear, and each one takes a pile of items from different mods. Twilight Forest items are in all of them. The axe takes Ironwood Axe. The hoe takes Ironwood Hoe and Steeleaf Hoe. The bow takes the Tri-Bow. The pickaxe takes Fiery Pickaxe and Giant's Pickaxe.[5]
The armor pieces use Twilight Forest armor too. The helmet takes Fiery Helmet, Knightmetal Helmet, Phantom Helmet and Yeti Horned Helm. The chestplate takes Fiery Chestplate and Naga Scale Tunic. The pants take Fiery Leggings. The boots take Fiery Boots, Knightmetal Boots, Steeleaf Boots and Yeti Boots.[5]
Shaped Table (extendedcrafting)
Recipe id: avaritia:infinity_pants

Hostile Networks
Hostile Networks can make Twilight Forest items from its living matter. Two Generalized Twilight Prediction and a Note Block give you 8 Cicada. This is a regular mod recipe. The dump also counts 7 shapeless recipes in total that take Hostile Networks and vanilla items and make Twilight Forest items, but only this one is written out.[5]
Cosmic Meatballs
The pack's Extended Crafting recipe for Avaritia's Cosmic Meatballs accepts a long list of foods from several mods, and Twilight Forest foods such as Raw Venison and Meef Steak are part of it. The recipe makes 8 meatballs.[12]
Quest book
Twilight Forest items also turn up in the quest book, in the "ProjectE Philo Stone" chapter. It sits in the "Production" group and is chapter 33 of 44. One quest there asks for 4 Fiery Tears (a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone"), and another asks for 2 Ur-Ghast Trophy (a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone"). Follow-up quests later in the chapter ask for single copies of the same items.[2]
Not every quest in that chapter is shown in the sources here, so the quest book is the place to see what the rest of it asks for.[2]
Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use The Twilight Forest?
4 parts
Twilight Forest shows up in four quest chapters in this pack. One asks you to visit the dimension, and the other three ask for its items as steps toward bigger goals. Here they are in book order.[2][4][8][9]
The Beginning (Storyline, chapter 4 of 44)
The first stop is "Visit the TWILIGHT FOREST" quest, which asks you to visit the Twilight Forest dimension. It comes after a checkmark quest (a quest in "The Beginning"), which itself comes after "Welcome" quest. That same checkmark quest also leads to the other dimension visits in this chapter, like the Nether, the End and the Lost Cities.[4]
ProjectE Philo Stone (Production, chapter 33 of 44)
The goal quest of this chapter is a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone". Two of the quests that lead into it ask for Twilight Forest drops:[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" asks for 4 Fiery Tears. Single-item Fiery Tears quests, such as a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone", are listed in the chapter as well.[2]
- a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone" asks for 2 Ur-Ghast Trophy. Single-item Ur-Ghast Trophy quests, such as a quest in "ProjectE Philo Stone", are listed in the chapter as well.[2]
The Philosopher's Stone quest comes after a long list of these item quests, and the Fiery Tears and Ur-Ghast Trophy ones are among them.[2]
AllTheModium (Production, chapter 36 of 44)
Here the mod appears once. a quest in "AllTheModium" asks for Block of Fiery Metal, and it has no prerequisite quest listed. a quest in "AllTheModium" comes after four quests: a quest in "AllTheModium", a quest in "AllTheModium", the Block of Fiery Metal quest and a quest in "AllTheModium".[9]
After the Vibranium Ingot quest, the chapter continues to "Vibranium template" quest and a quest in "AllTheModium".[9]
Extended Crafting (Production, chapter 37 of 44)
This big chapter has one ingot quest for each of three Twilight Forest metals. Each asks for a single item and has no prerequisite listed:[8]
- a quest in "Extended Crafting" asks for Ironwood Ingot.[8]
- a quest in "Extended Crafting" asks for Knightmetal Ingot.[8]
- a quest in "Extended Crafting" asks for Fiery Ingot.[8]
All three are among the many ingot quests that "The one and only" quest comes after. a quest in "Extended Crafting" then comes after that quest.[8]
Which The Twilight Forest config options matter?
5 parts
The Twilight Forest has two config files: a common one for gameplay and a client one for visuals. Below are the options you're most likely to care about, with the exact values this pack uses.[3][13]
Uncrafting table
This is the big one. In this pack [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Uncrafting Table.disableUncraftingTable]] is true. The config describes that as disabling any usage of the table and stopping it from showing up in loot or being crafted. [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Uncrafting Table.disableUncrafting]] is also true, which turns off the uncrafting function itself.[3]
The config itself says it is highly recommended to keep the table enabled, because the mod has special uncrafting-only recipes. The pack has turned it off anyway, so don't plan around it. [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Uncrafting Table.disableUncraftingRecipes]] lists one recipe, "twilightforest:giant_log_to_oak_planks". Both XP multipliers, [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Uncrafting Table.uncraftingXpCostMultiplier]] and [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Uncrafting Table.repairingXpCostMultiplier]], are set to 1.[3]
Portal and dimension
- originDimension is "minecraft:overworld", so that's the dimension you can always travel to the Twilight Forest from and return to.[3]
- allowPortalsInOtherDimensions is false, so portals can't be made outside the origin dimension.[3]
- disablePortalCreation and adminOnlyPortals are both false, so anyone can make a portal.[3]
- portalUnlockedByAdvancement is empty, which the config says leaves the portal entirely unlocked.[3]
- maxPortalSize is 64 and checkPortalDestination is false.[3]
- portalLightning is false. The config describes setting it to true as making the lightning not set things on fire.[3]
- shouldReturnPortalBeUsable is true, so the return portal doesn't need an activation item.[3]
- [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Dimension Settings.newPlayersSpawnInTF]] is false, so new players start in the normal world.[3]
Magic trees
All four cores are enabled, since [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.disableMiningCore]], [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.disableSortingCore]], [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.disableTimeCore]] and [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.disableTransformationCore]] are all false. Each core's range option ([[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.miningCoreRange]], [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.sortingCoreRange]], [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.timeCoreRange]] and [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.transformationCoreRange]]) is set to a radius of 16. The allowed range is 1 to 128.[3]
Combat and drops
- [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Shield Parrying.shieldParryTicksArrow]] is 40 ticks after raising a shield, and [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Shield Parrying.parryNonTwilightAttacks]] is false, so non-Twilight projectiles can't be parried.[3]
- boss_drop_chests is true. Bosses put their loot in a chest where they spawned instead of dropping it directly, except Knight Phantoms, whose drops work differently.[3]
- uuid_locking is false, so other players can open your death caskets.[3]
Client options
- auroraBiomes is set to the glacier biome only.[13]
- firstPersonEffects and questRamWoolIndicator are both true. Turn them off if you find them distracting or intrusive.[13]
- silentCicadas and silentCicadasOnHead are both false, so cicadas are noisy.[13]
- disableLockedBiomeToasts is false, so you still get the toasts when a biome is locked.[13]
- cloudBlockPrecipitationDistance is -1, which syncs it with the common config value of 32 for cloudBlockPrecipitationDistance. Lower it if your tick rate or performance suffers.[3][13]
Unverified The files only show this pack's values, not the mod's stock defaults, so which of these options the pack actually changed is not confirmed here.
