What is Modern AE2 Additions?

2 parts

Modern AE2 Additions is a small add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that ports some features of the older NAE2 and adds a few original ideas. This pack includes version 2.0.1.[1][2]

What it adds

  • Pattern P2P Tunnel: lets one pattern provider feed several machines at once. The output side also links back to the provider, which makes Molecular Assemblers easy to run.[1][3]
  • Multi P2P Tunnels: P2P tunnels that accept multiple inputs. They are separate parts, so they won't automatically work with custom P2Ps from other mods.[1][4]
  • EU P2P Tunnel: moves EU from GregTech-Modern, taxed at the same rate as other P2P tunnel transfers.[1]
  • Dense Co-Processing Units: crafting co-processors that give more than 1 thread, one for each storage component, with 4, 16, 64 and 256 threads respectively.[1]
  • Faulty Memory Card: a memory card variant for repetitive jobs. Currently it can help with mass pasting of device configs and with giving storage busses and level emitters incrementing or decrementing priorities and amounts.[1][5]
  • Semi-Vibrant Glass: a vibrant glass that imitates a cloud chamber, with lines of particles forming at random inside it.[1][6]
Watch out: The Faulty Memory Card has a Global Paste mode that pastes to every part of the same type on the network. The in-game guide itself says to be very careful with it.[5]

Where it sits in the quest book

This pack's quest book has an "AE2 Addons" chapter ("AE2 Addons" quest) that includes a quest asking you to get the Pattern P2P Tunnel. The chapter is in the "Storage and Power" group, is chapter 15 of 44 in the book, and has 43 quests.[3][7]

The chapter is shared with quests for items from other AE2 add-ons. The only quest that asks for an item from this mod is a quest in "AE2 Addons", which asks you to obtain the Pattern P2P Tunnel, the tunnel that lets providers push patterns to machines on its output. The book lists no prerequisite for it, and no other quest in the chapter is set to come after it.[3][7]

How do you get started with Modern AE2 Additions?

5 parts

Modern AE2 Additions is a small mod that adds a handful of extras to your AE2 network, so you can pick the pieces up one at a time. In this pack the quest book covers it in the "AE2 Addons" chapter, in the "Storage and Power" group (chapter 15 of 44).[1][7]

Pattern P2P Tunnel

Start with the Pattern P2P Tunnel. Put a pattern provider on the input end and it can push patterns to any machine on the output end, so one provider can feed many machines. Machines can also output into the tunnel to send items back into the provider. Blocking mode works per machine, and Molecular Assemblers work fine. The quest a quest in "AE2 Addons" asks you for this item.[1][3][7]

In this pack you get it by stonecutting another P2P tunnel type. Here is the route from an ME P2P Tunnel:[8]

Stonecutting

Recipe id: crazyae2addons:ae2_me_p2p_tunnel_to_mae2_pattern_p2p_tunnel

The pack's config file sets the tunnel's tick rate between 5 and 120, through [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.Pattern P2P.minRate]] and [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.Pattern P2P.maxRate]].[9]

Multi P2P Tunnels

Multi P2P Tunnels work like the normal ones but accept multiple inputs. With the Pattern version, several tunnels share their molecular assemblers between them. Upgrade your pattern tunnel to the Pattern Multi P2P Tunnel when you need that:[4][8]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mae2:network/parts/multi_p2p_tunnel_pattern

There are also item, fluid, FE and redstone versions, for example the Item Multi P2P Tunnel and the Redstone Multi P2P Tunnel. There is no ME or Light version. The mod's own guide says the ME tunnel already blurs inputs and outputs, so extra inputs would just be extra outputs.[4][8]

Dense Co-Processing Units

When your crafting CPU needs more power, use the dense co-processing units. Each one gives as many threads as there are kilobytes in the storage component used to make it, so 4, 16, 64 or 256 threads. Start with the 4x Crafting Co-Processing Unit:[1][8]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mae2:network/crafting/4x_crafting_accelerator

The bigger tiers are the 16x Crafting Co-Processing Unit, 64x Crafting Co-Processing Unit and 256x Crafting Co-Processing Unit. Here are their recipes in that order:[1][8]

Recipe id: mae2:network/crafting/64x_crafting_accelerator

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mae2:network/crafting/256x_crafting_accelerator

Faulty Memory Card

The Faulty Memory Card helps with repetitive memory card tasks. Its modes are AoE Paste, Global Paste, and Incrementing/Decrementing, which raises or lowers a priority or level emitter amount by one on each paste. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own:[5][8]

Watch out: Global Paste pastes to every part of the same type on the network, and the mod's own guide says to be very careful with it.[5]

Extras

  • The Semi-Vibrant Glass is a glass that imitates a cloud chamber, with lines of particles forming at random inside it.[1][6]
  • The EU P2P Tunnel moves EU from GregTech-Modern. In this pack [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU P2P.enabled]] is true and [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU P2P.nerf]] is false.[1][9]

How does Modern AE2 Additions work?

7 parts

Modern AE2 Additions is a small add-on for Applied Energistics 2. Its systems are all about moving things around your ME network: tunnels for patterns and energy, crafting co-processors with more than one thread, and a memory card that does bulk work for you. Here's how each one behaves in this pack.[1]

Pattern P2P Tunnels

The Pattern P2P Tunnel tunnels the patterns pushed by Pattern Providers. A provider on the input of the tunnel can push patterns to any machine on the output. Machines can also output into the tunnel's output to send items back into the provider.[3]

Patterns sent this way act as if the provider were right at the output. Blocking mode works per machine, and a pattern is never split across several outputs. Pushing directly into subnets and using Molecular Assemblers both work fine.[3]

The pack sets the tick rate range for Pattern (Multi) P2P Tunnels in [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.Pattern P2P.minRate]] and [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.Pattern P2P.maxRate]]. In this pack they are 5 and 120.[9]

Multi P2P Tunnels

Multi P2P Tunnels act exactly like their single counterparts, but allow multiple inputs. You add more inputs by using an item in your offhand on a Multi P2P. For example, three hoppers can all push into three outputs. Three Redstone Multi P2Ps can act like an OR gate, and three Pattern Multi P2Ps can share Molecular Assemblers between themselves.[4]

There is no ME Multi P2P Tunnel. The ME tunnel already blurs the line between inputs and outputs, and channels aren't directional, so extra inputs could just as easily be extra outputs. There is no Light Multi P2P Tunnel either, because the author saw no reason to make one.[4]

Multi P2Ps are separate parts. They won't automatically work with custom P2P tunnels added by other mods, though the mod adds versions for AE2's own tunnels.[1]

You make a Pattern Multi P2P Tunnel, FE Multi P2P Tunnel or Fluid Multi P2P Tunnel from the matching single tunnel. These are the recipes:[8]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mae2:network/parts/multi_p2p_tunnel_pattern

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mae2:network/parts/multi_p2p_tunnel_fe

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mae2:network/parts/multi_p2p_tunnel_fluid

The pack sets both the minimum and maximum tick rate of FE Multi P2P Tunnels to 1, in [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.FE Multi P2P.minRate]] and [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.FE Multi P2P.maxRate]].[9]

EU P2P settings

The mod's EU P2P tunnel transfers EU from GregTech-Modern, and by default it taxes EU at the same rate other P2P transfers are taxed. The pack's config has these settings for it.[1][9]

[[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU P2P.enabled]] is true, and changing it needs a game restart. The optional nerf, [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU P2P.nerf]], is off in this pack. If you turned it on, higher energy transfer rates across the whole ME network would be taxed more, with stepping up voltage reducing the tax. It would also stop EU P2Ps from getting channels through an ME P2P. The pack sets [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU P2P.nerfFactor]] to 0.05, and it affects the tax linearly.[9]

EU Multi P2P tick rates are fixed at 1 for both [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU Multi P2P.minRate]] and [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU Multi P2P.maxRate]].[9]

Converting tunnels

The pack has stonecutting recipes that turn other P2P tunnels into the Pattern P2P Tunnel. The inputs include AE2's item, fluid and FE tunnels, plus the Mana and Chemical tunnels from add-ons. Here is one example:[8]

Stonecutting

Recipe id: crazyae2addons:ae2_item_p2p_tunnel_to_mae2_pattern_p2p_tunnel

Dense Co-Processing Units

These are Crafting Co-Processing Units that give more than one thread. There is one for each storage component size, giving as many threads as there are kilobytes in the component: 4, 16, 64 and 256.[1]

They are 4x Crafting Co-Processing Unit, 16x Crafting Co-Processing Unit, 64x Crafting Co-Processing Unit and 256x Crafting Co-Processing Unit. Here are their recipes:[1][10]

Faulty Memory Card

The Faulty Memory Card works like a normal memory card and helps with repetitive jobs, such as copying settings to many devices or setting up storage busses with increasing priority. The pack changed its recipe from the mod's own:[5][8]

Faulty Memory CardChanged by the pack

  • Sneak use on a device copies its settings. Use on a device pastes them.[5]
  • Sneak use on the air cycles through the modes. Plain use on the air does something specific to the current mode, mostly cycling sub-modes.[5]
  • AoE Paste pastes to every part in a square area around the first part you use it on. It only affects parts facing the same direction as that first one. Using it on the air cycles the size of the area.[5]
  • Global Paste pastes to every part on the network of the same type as the one you first pasted to.[5]
  • Incrementing and Decrementing raise or lower a priority or level emitter amount by one each time you paste. Using it on the air switches between the two.[5]
Watch out: Global Paste hits every matching part on the whole network, and the mod's own guide says to be very careful with it.[5]

Semi-Vibrant Glass

Semi-Vibrant Glass is a decorative glass. Instead of particles floating randomly like in Vibrant Glass, it imitates a cloud chamber, with lines of particles forming at random inside the glass. This recipe makes 8 at a time:[1][6][8]

How do you progress through Modern AE2 Additions?

5 parts

Modern AE2 Additions doesn't have a long tier ladder in this pack. Its progression is a handful of upgrades you slot into an AE2 network: the Pattern P2P Tunnel, the Multi P2P Tunnels and the Crafting Co-Processing Unit tiers, plus two small extras.[7][8]

Where the quest book puts it

The mod's only quest is a quest in "AE2 Addons", and it just asks you to have the Pattern P2P Tunnel. It sits in the chapter "AE2 Addons", in the group "Storage and Power" (chapter 15 of 44 in the book). The book lists no prerequisite for it. The rest of that chapter belongs to other AE2 addon mods.[7]

Step 1: Pattern P2P Tunnel

The Pattern P2P Tunnel tunnels the patterns that Pattern Providers push. A provider on the input can push patterns to any machine on the output, and machines can send results back into the provider. Blocking mode works per machine, and a pattern is never split across several outputs.[3]

In this pack you can also get one at the stonecutter by converting another P2P tunnel. Item, fluid, ME, light, redstone and energy tunnels all work, as do the Mana and Chemical tunnels. Here is the item tunnel version:[8]

Stonecutting

Recipe id: crazyae2addons:ae2_item_p2p_tunnel_to_mae2_pattern_p2p_tunnel

Step 2: Multi P2P Tunnels

Multi P2P Tunnels work like their single counterparts but accept multiple inputs. You craft each one from a matching single tunnel, so you need the basic tunnel first.[4][8]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mae2:network/parts/multi_p2p_tunnel_pattern

There is also a workaround recipe that turns an ME P2P Tunnel into an Item Multi P2P Tunnel. The mod has no ME Multi P2P Tunnel or Light Multi P2P Tunnel.[4][8]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mae2:network/parts/multi_p2p_tunnel_workaround

Step 3: Crafting Co-Processing Unit tiers

This is the closest thing the mod has to real tiers. There are four: 4x Crafting Co-Processing Unit, 16x Crafting Co-Processing Unit, 64x Crafting Co-Processing Unit and 256x Crafting Co-Processing Unit. Each is a shapeless upgrade of a normal Crafting Co-Processing Unit, and each step up needs a bigger ME storage component than the last.[8]

Extras

The Faulty Memory Card is a memory card that helps with repetitive jobs. Its modes are AoE Paste, Global Paste and Incrementing/Decrementing, which raises or lowers a priority or level emitter amount by one on each paste. The pack changes this recipe from the mod's own.[5][8]

Watch out: Global Paste writes to every part of the same type on the network, so be very careful with it.[5]

Semi-Vibrant Glass is a decorative glass block with lines of particles that form inside it. One craft makes 8 of them.[6][8]

How does Modern AE2 Additions work with other mods?

6 parts

Modern AE2 Additions is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so almost every link to another mod runs through AE2 items. The recipes below are the ones in this pack that use items from both sides.[1][8]

Dense Co-Processing Units

The dense crafting units are upgraded versions of AE2's base Crafting Co-Processing Unit, one per storage component tier. Each unit gives as many threads as there are kilobytes in its matching component: 4k ME Storage Component gives 4, 16k ME Storage Component gives 16, 64k ME Storage Component gives 64 and 256k ME Storage Component gives 256 threads.[1][8]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mae2:network/crafting/256x_crafting_accelerator

The 256x unit. The 4x, 16x and 64x recipes follow the same pattern.

Multi P2P Tunnels

The pack has Multi P2P Tunnel recipes for AE2's single tunnels. That gives you FE Multi P2P Tunnel, Fluid Multi P2P Tunnel, Item Multi P2P Tunnel, Redstone Multi P2P Tunnel and Pattern Multi P2P Tunnel. The Engineering Processor appears in all of these recipes, and the block below shows the FE one.[8]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mae2:network/parts/multi_p2p_tunnel_fe

The FE version as an example. The other Multi P2P Tunnels follow the same pattern.

There is also a recipe named "workaround" that turns an ME P2P Tunnel into an Item Multi P2P Tunnel. The guide explains that there is no ME Multi P2P Tunnel and no Light Multi P2P Tunnel.[4][8]

Watch out: Multi P2P Tunnels are separate parts, so they won't automatically work with custom P2P tunnels added by other mods. The mod only adds multi versions for AE2's own tunnels.[1]

Tunnel conversion by stonecutting

Recipes in the crazyae2addons namespace let you convert between this mod's EU P2P Tunnel or Pattern P2P Tunnel and other tunnels using a stonecutter. They cover AE2's Energy P2P Tunnel, Fluid P2P Tunnel, Item P2P Tunnel, Light P2P Tunnel, ME P2P Tunnel and Redstone P2P Tunnel, plus Mana P2P Tunnel and Chemical P2P Tunnel. Each conversion works in both directions.[8]

Stonecutting

Recipe id: crazyae2addons:ae2_fe_p2p_tunnel_to_mae2_pattern_p2p_tunnel

One example of the stonecutting conversions.

The Pattern P2P Tunnel sends the patterns from a pattern provider to machines at the other end of the tunnel. Molecular Assemblers work through it too. The EU P2P Tunnel is described on the mod page as transferring EU from GregTech-Modern.[1][3]

Faulty Memory Card

The Faulty Memory Card is a tweaked version of AE2's memory card. The pack changed its recipe from the mod's default, and it now involves an Logic Processor.[5][8]

Semi-Vibrant Glass

Semi-Vibrant Glass is a take on AE2's Vibrant Quartz Glass: instead of particles floating randomly, it imitates a cloud chamber, with lines of particles forming at random inside the glass. The pack's recipe also uses a vanilla Amethyst Shard and makes 8 blocks at a time.[1][6][8]

In the quest book

The a quest in "AE2 Addons" quest asks you to get a Pattern P2P Tunnel, which sends patterns from pattern providers to machines at the other end of the tunnel. It sits in the "AE2 Addons" chapter, which is chapter 15 of 44 in the group "Storage and Power". That chapter also holds quests for items from other AE2 add-ons, such as Advanced AE and ExtendedAE.[3][7]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Modern AE2 Additions?

4 parts

The pack's quest book puts this mod in the chapter "AE2 Addons" quest, in the "Storage and Power" group. It is chapter 15 of 44 in the book and is shared with many other AE2 addon mods.[7]

The quest for this mod

The quest is a quest in "AE2 Addons", and it asks for the Pattern P2P Tunnel. The book lists no prerequisite for it.[7]

Order in the chapter

The chapter opens with "AE2 Addons" quest, a checkmark quest. Several untitled checkmark quests and "Extended AE + Extended AE Plus" quest, also a checkmark, come directly after it. The other quests then hang off those, and the book gives the untitled ones no names, so the sources here do not show which one each quest follows.[7]

After the untitled checkmarks

After Extended AE

The other branch follows "Extended AE + Extended AE Plus" quest. These quests ask for Extended AE and Extended AE Plus items.[7]

"Assembler Matrix Upload Core" quest comes after both "Assembler Matrix" quest and "Extended AE + Extended AE Plus" quest.[7]

a quest in "AE2 Addons" has no prerequisite listed, like the Pattern P2P Tunnel quest.[7]

Which Modern AE2 Additions config options matter?

4 parts

Modern AE2 Additions has two config files in this pack, and only a handful of options are worth knowing about. They cover the P2P tunnel tick rates, the EU P2P tax, and one cosmetic particle setting.[9][11]

Pattern P2P tick rates

  • [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.Pattern P2P.minRate]] is set to 5. It is the minimum tick rate for Pattern (Multi) P2P Tunnels.[9]
  • [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.Pattern P2P.maxRate]] is set to 120. It is the maximum tick rate for the same tunnels.[9]

These tunnels let one pattern provider feed several machines at once, so these two values set the range the tunnel works within.[1][9]

FE Multi P2P tick rates

Both [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.FE Multi P2P.minRate]] and [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.FE Multi P2P.maxRate]] are set to 1 in this pack. They are the minimum and maximum tick rates for FE Multi P2P Tunnels.[9]

EU P2P and its tax

[[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU P2P.enabled]] is true, so the EU P2P (single or multi) is available. Changing it requires a game restart.[9]

The optional EU P2P nerf is switched off: [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU P2P.nerf]] is false. When it is enabled, it penalizes higher energy transfer rates across the whole ME network with higher taxes, though stepping up voltage reduces the tax. It also stops EU P2Ps from getting channels through an ME P2P.[9]

Because the nerf is off, [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU P2P.nerfFactor]] only matters if you turn it on. It is set to 0.05, and a higher value means a higher tax, scaling linearly.[9]

The EU Multi P2P tick rates, [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU Multi P2P.minRate]] and [[config:config/mae2-common.toml#Parts.EU Multi P2P.maxRate]], are both set to 1.[9]

Cloud chamber particles

Visual.cloudChamberFactor is a client-side setting, set to 1 in this pack. It is a global modifier for how many particles Semi-Vibrant Glass spawns in its cloud chambers.[1][11]

What changed in Modern AE2 Additions between versions?

3 parts

Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Modern AE2 Additions 2.0.1. The mod was first included in the pack in version 0.0.45.4 or earlier. The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs, not from the pack's.[2]

2.0.0-beta.j

  • Fixed a crash with EU p2ps.[12]
  • Fixed multi pattern p2ps not reverse tunneling to multipart providers.[12]
  • Fixed a NPE with single pattern p2ps.[12]
  • Potentially fixed an issue with reverse tunneling pattern p2ps and GT machines.[12]

2.0.0

This was the long awaited 2.0 release. The big changes are listed below.[13]

  • A new backend for multi p2ps, used to make RF and EU p2ps much more efficient.[13]
  • A new nerf option for EU p2ps. It makes them more like GT cables and gives a soft cap to how much they can transfer.[13]
  • A pattern p2p refactor. They are less janky internally, so they should play nicer with other mods. Pattern terminal naming is better and nested p2ps are allowed.[13]
  • For the 2.0.0 release itself, a crash was fixed for input single EU p2ps without a grid node.[13]

2.0.1

This is the version your pack runs. It is a cleanup release after 2.0.0.[2][14]

  • Fixed some issues that pattern and multi p2ps were having. They should stop breaking at random now.[14]
  • Re-added the recipes for multi p2ps. ForgeGradle had stopped adding them to the jar.[14]
  • Re-added the attunements for multi p2ps.[14]
  • Added the pickaxe-mineable tag to semi-vibrant glass, plus a drop table for it.[14]
