What is Farmer's Delight?

2 parts

Farmer's Delight is a cozy expansion to farming and cooking. It adds a simple cooking system, so you can turn familiar ingredients into hearty meals, from sandwiches and stews to desserts. It also adds ways to improve the soil your crops grow in, new tools and weapons, and decorations for your builds. This pack includes version 1.3.4.[1][2]

Where the quest book puts it

The pack's quest book covers Farmer's Delight in the "Cooking and Brewing" chapter. That chapter is chapter 12 of 31, sits in the "Exploration & Combat" group, and has 45 quests. It is shared with Cooking for Blockheads and with potion brewing, so you'll see kitchen multiblock quests and brewing quests sitting alongside the Farmer's Delight ones.[3]

Farmer's Delight splits into a few small branches. "To The Chopping Board" quest (for the Cutting Board) leads into "Cooked Chicken Cuts" quest and then "Chicken Sandwich" quest. It also leads into "Beef Patty" quest and then "Hamburger" quest.[3]

"Cooking Pot" quest (for the Cooking Pot) leads into "Stuffed Pumpkin" quest, "Pasta with Meatballs" quest and "Apple Cider" quest. "Baking a Pie" quest is the start of the dessert branch, which leads into "Apple Pie" quest, "Chocolate Pie" quest and "Sweet Berry Cheesecake" quest. The chapter also has crop quests for Cabbage, Onion and Tomato.[3]

Things worth knowing

  • The Cooking Pot must be placed over a campfire for heat. It is an in-world crafting station and doesn't work with the Cooking for Blockheads Cooking Table automatically, so check JEI for its recipes.[3]
  • The Cutting Board is also used in the world, not through the kitchen multiblock. The quest book notes it can break Amethyst Blocks down into Amethyst Shards.[3]
  • For automation, a Dispenser loaded with a knife will work a Cutting Board. The Cooking Pot takes ingredients from the top or sides and hands finished meals out of the bottom, so hoppers or item pipes can keep it running.[3]

How do you get started with Farmer's Delight?

5 parts

The pack's quest book teaches Farmer's Delight in the "Cooking and Brewing" chapter (group "Exploration & Combat", chapter 12 of 31). The order below follows the quest chain there, so you can tick quests off as you go.[3]

Make a Cutting Board

The first stop is "To The Chopping Board" quest. The Cutting Board is a kitchen staple for prepping ingredients, and most of the next steps start here. You use it in the world with a tool in hand to break an item down.[3][4]

Watch out: The Cutting Board and the Cooking Pot are in-world crafting stations. They don't work with the Cooking for Blockheads Kitchen Multiblock, so cut and cook with them directly and check JEI for their recipes.[3]

Cut meat and make your first meals

After the Cutting Board, the book sends you to "Beef Patty" quest and then "Hamburger" quest. You cut raw beef into Minced Beef with a knife on the board, then cook it into a patty.[3][5]

You can cook the minced beef in a furnace, a smoker or over a campfire. The Hamburger itself is a crafting-grid recipe.[5]

The other branch from the Cutting Board is "Cooked Chicken Cuts" quest, which leads to "Chicken Sandwich" quest.[3]

Place a Cooking Pot

"Cooking Pot" quest introduces the Cooking Pot, which has many unique recipes. It must be placed over a campfire for heat. Three quests come after it: "Apple Cider" quest, "Pasta with Meatballs" quest and "Stuffed Pumpkin" quest.[3]

For the pasta meal, this pack adds its own way to get Raw Pasta: you cut dough with a knife on the Cutting Board.[5]

Get your crops going

The chapter has farm quests for Cabbage, Onion and Tomato. In "The Market" quest, the book points you to the Market, which sells most seeds and items a farm needs and is especially useful in skyblocks. It even has an onion trade.[3][5]

Sifting dirt with a mesh can also give you Cabbage Seeds, Rice Crops and Tomato Seeds. The pack adds its own sifting recipe for this, and its cloth mesh gives a much wider seed pool than the andesite mesh recipe.[5]

Tip: When you're ready to automate, "Mechanical Meals" quest says a Dispenser loaded with a knife can work a Cutting Board for you. It also says the Cooking Pot takes ingredients from the top or sides and hands finished meals out of the bottom, so hoppers can feed it.[3]

    How does Farmer's Delight work?

    5 parts

Farmer's Delight works through hands-on stations: the Cutting Board, the Cooking Pot, the Skillet and heat sources, plus a soil system that makes your farms better. Here is how each one works in this pack.[4]

    The Cutting Board

Hold a tool, use it on a Cutting Board, and the item on the board gets broken down. If the item can't be cut, the board tells you so, and if you hold the wrong tool it hints that you need a different one. For multi-step cuts it shows how many items remain.[4]

Knife recipes are the everyday ones, like turning raw beef into Minced Beef or a chicken into Raw Chicken Cuts.[5]

Axes work on the board too. Chopping a log gives you Tree Bark along with the stripped log.[5]

    Cutting (farmersdelight)

    Recipe id: farmersdelight:cutting/acacia_log

The pack adds its own axe recipes on top. A pack script goes through every Farmer's Delight cutting recipe that uses an axe action and rewrites it to accept any axe from the axes tag. The rewritten recipes get ids starting with ftb:farmersdelight/cutting/axe/. One example is the Malum Exposed Runewood Log, which gives you bark and a Revealed Runewood Log.[5][6]

    Cutting (farmersdelight)

    Recipe id: ftb:farmersdelight/cutting/axe/exposed_runewood_log

Fortune on the tool improves your odds of rare results. In this pack each level adds 0.1 (the mod default) through crafting.cuttingBoardFortuneBonus. Setting it to 0.0 turns the bonus off.[7]

    Automating the board

overrides.enableCuttingBoardDispenserBehavior is on in this pack. A Dispenser facing a Cutting Board can operate it, using the items stored in the Dispenser as the cutting tools.[7]

There is also a machine route for chicken. Mekanism has a sawing recipe that turns cooked chicken into Cooked Chicken Cuts and bone meal.[5]

    Sawing (mekanism)

    Recipe id: mekanism:compat/farmersdelight/sawing/chicken_cuts

    Cooking Pot, Skillet and heat

Place a Cooking Pot to start preparing meals. crafting.enableCookingPotRecipeBook is on, so the pot's screen has a recipe book like the one on crafting tables and furnaces. Pot dishes use their own recipe type, for example Bone Broth and Baked Cod Stew.[4][5][7]

The Skillet is the cook-on-the-go option. Stand near heat and hold the food in your other hand. You can also sneak to place it down as a block. It refuses to cook while flooded.[4]

Vanilla heat sources still work for simple foods. Minced Beef becomes a Beef Patty in a furnace, a smoker or over a campfire.[5]

Some meals are big enough to be placed down as feasts and shared. To eat from one you need the right container item, and the game tells you which when you try without it. Pies work like this too: you can slice an Apple Pie into Slice of Apple Pie on the board, or put the slices back together.[4][5]

    Soil, compost and crops

Organic Compost slowly decays into Rich Soil, which upgrades your farms. It composts better with sun, water and mushrooms. In this pack, Rich Soil has a 0.2 chance (the mod default) of giving a planted crop a bone meal boost, set by farming.richSoilBoostChance.[4][7]

The pack also has a compost recipe that uses bark.[5]

    Organic CompostMod recipe

    Crafting Shapeless

    Recipe id: arsdelight:organic_compost_from_tree_bark

Mushroom colonies need that rich soil. You shear a fully mature one to harvest it. The pack also has a Farming for Blockheads market recipe for the Brown Mushroom Colony.[4][5]

Rice must be planted in shallow water. Tomatoes grow taller if you hang rope above them. A few config options control how rope behaves with tomatoes. farming.enableTomatoVineClimbingTaggedRopes is on, so tomato vines can climb any rope in the farmersdelight:ropes tag. farming.defaultTomatoVineRope is the rope left behind when a vine breaks, and here it is farmersdelight:rope. With settings.enableRopeReeling on, you can reel rope back in from bottom to top by sneak-using with an empty hand.[4][7]

Tip: If you ever need to edit a region with commands or in creative and a stray rope blocks you, the cause is debug.enableTomatoRopePermanence, which is on in this pack. It force-places a rope when a hanging tomato crop breaks. The config recommends leaving it on for normal play.[7]

    Storage and soup tweaks

crafting.enableVanillaCropCrates is on, so the 3x3 crates for vanilla crops are craftable. Crates unpack too: a Cabbage Crate gives you 9 Cabbage.[5][7]

    9× CabbageMod recipe

    Crafting Shapeless

    Recipe id: farmersdelight:cabbage

With overrides.stack_size.enableStackableSoupItems on, bowl foods in the soup list stack to 16, like the mod's own meals. The list in overrides.stack_size.soupItemList is mushroom stew, beetroot soup and rabbit stew.[7]

overrides.enableVanillaSoupExtraEffects is on, so vanilla soups and stews grant Nourishment when eaten. overrides.enableRabbitStewBuff is also on, which gives rabbit stew improved food stats.[7]

Pumpkin Pie does not require sneaking to place, because overrides.enablePumpkinPieSneakToPlace is off in this pack.[7]

How do you progress through Farmer's Delight?

    5 parts

In this pack, Farmer's Delight progression is told by the quest book's Cooking and Brewing chapter. It sits in the group "Exploration & Combat" as chapter 12 of 31 and has 45 quests. The chapter also covers the Kitchen multiblock and potion brewing, so here we follow the Farmer's Delight thread through it.[3]

    Step 1: the Cutting Board

The path starts with "To The Chopping Board" quest, which asks for a Cutting Board. The quest says it is used for lots of recipes and is a kitchen staple. It also warns that it works in the world only, not through the Kitchen multiblock.[3]

"Hamburger" quest follows the patty and "Chicken Sandwich" quest follows the chicken cuts. If you would rather not cut by hand, Mekanism's sawing recipes also make minced beef and cooked chicken cuts.[3][5]

    Step 2: the Cooking Pot

"Cooking Pot" quest asks for the Cooking Pot. It must sit over a campfire for heat, and it is an in-world station that does not work with the Kitchen Table automatically. The pack changed this recipe, so use the one below rather than what you remember from the base mod.[3][5]

Three quests unlock after the pot: "Stuffed Pumpkin" quest, "Pasta with Meatballs" quest and "Apple Cider" quest. The quest book calls the pasta one an advanced meal that gives Nourishment, and says Apple Cider provides extra absorption. The pack also added a Cutting Board recipe for Raw Pasta.[3][5]

    Farming the ingredients

The chapter has farm quests for "Cabbage Farm" quest, "Onion Farm" quest and "Tomato Farm" quest, plus "The Market" quest for seeds and items, which the quest calls especially useful in skyblocks. The market has recipes for Onion and Brown Mushroom Colony.[3][5]

The pack also added a few seed and rice routes of its own. Milling Wild Cabbage gives Cabbage Seeds, milling Rice Panicle gives Rice Crops and Straw, and sifting dirt with a Mechanical Cloth Mesh gives cabbage seeds, rice and Tomato Seeds among other things.[5]

    Sifting (createsifter)

    Recipe id: ftb:create/sifting/minecraft/dirt_with_cloth_mesh

The pack added this sifting recipe.

    The Kitchen multiblock and automation

"Building Your Kitchen" quest starts the Kitchen multiblock, and many quests branch from it: "Fruit Basket" quest, "Industrial Cooking" quest, "Fridges" quest, "The Pantry" quest and more. The quest warns that some mods, like the Farmer's Delight Cooking Pot, won't connect to it, so check JEI for specific recipes.[3]

"Mechanical Meals" quest covers automation. A Dispenser loaded with a knife will work a Cutting Board for you. The Cooking Pot takes ingredients from the top or sides and hands finished meals out of the bottom, so hoppers or item pipes can feed it.[3]

"Loot Llamas" quest is the late-game food source. In the pack's llama loot table, Hamburger is in the rare group for llamas with loot strength 5 or higher, and Pasta with Meatballs is in the epic group for strength 10 only.[3][8]

Tip: "Food Diversity" quest says foods in this pack grant extra health the more varieties you try. The Food Book tracks what you have eaten and your next threshold, so cooking widely pays off.[3]

If you run Ars Nouveau, its chapter has a checkmark quest, "Arcanist's Delight" quest, that describes an addon bringing Farmer's Delight style foods and drinks made from Ars fruits.[9]

How does Farmer's Delight work with other mods?

    6 parts

Farmer's Delight doesn't sit alone in this pack. Its Pie Crust, seeds, Tree Bark and Rich Soil show up in recipes from several other mods, and the quest book ties the kitchen together too. Here are the connections I can confirm from the pack's recipes and quests.[3][5]

    Create and Create Sifter

If you want Pie Crust without hand-crafting, Create can mix it. The quest "Baking a Pie" quest says Pie Crust is the base for many different recipes, so it's worth automating.[3][5]

    Malum

Cooking for Blockheads and the quest book

Farmer's Delight quests live in the "Cooking and Brewing" chapter, chapter 12 of 31, in the "Exploration & Combat" group. Cooking for Blockheads has its own quests there too. "Building Your Kitchen" quest tells you the Cooking Table won't connect with the Cooking Pot, and "Cooking Pot" quest says the pot is an in-world station that doesn't work with the Kitchen Table automatically. Always check JEI for the specific recipe.[3]

"Mechanical Meals" quest covers automation. A Dispenser loaded with a knife will work a Cutting Board, and the Cooking Pot takes ingredients from the top or sides and hands meals out of the bottom, so hoppers or item pipes can feed it.[3]

    Loot Llamas

The pack's llama loot table hands out Farmer's Delight meals as your llamas get stronger. At strength 5 or higher, the rare pool includes Smoked Ham, Hamburger and Stuffed Potato. At strength 10, the epic pool includes Pasta with Meatballs, Grilled Salmon, Plate of Shepherd's Pie and Plate of Honey Glazed Ham. The quest "Loot Llamas" quest explains how to set llamas up.[3][8]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Farmer's Delight?

    4 parts

Most of the Farmer's Delight content in the quest book sits in one chapter, "Cooking and Brewing". It is chapter 12 of 31, in the "Exploration & Combat" group, and has 45 quests. Only part of it is Farmer's Delight. The rest covers the Cooking for Blockheads kitchen and potion brewing. One quest in the Ars Nouveau chapter also mentions the mod.[3][9]

    Starting quests

Three Farmer's Delight quests have no prerequisite, and each one opens a short chain of meals.[3]

    • "To The Chopping Board" quest asks for the Cutting Board. The quest says it handles lots of recipes, including breaking Amethyst Blocks into Amethyst Shards. It also says it does not work with the Kitchen Multiblock, so you do it in the world.[3]
    • "Cooking Pot" quest asks for the Cooking Pot. The quest says it must be placed over a campfire for heat, and that it is an in-world crafting station that does not work with the Kitchen Table automatically.[3]
    • "Baking a Pie" quest asks for the Pie Crust, which the quest calls the base for many different recipes.[3]

    The meal chains

Each starter quest unlocks the dishes that come after it.[3]

    Crops, automation and extras

Three farm quests ask you to obtain Farmer's Delight crops: "Cabbage Farm" quest for Cabbage, "Onion Farm" quest for Onion, and "Tomato Farm" quest for Tomato. None of them has a prerequisite.[3]

"Mechanical Meals" quest is a checkmark quest about automation. It says a Dispenser loaded with a knife will work a Cutting Board for you. It also says the Cooking Pot takes ingredients from the top or sides and hands finished meals out of the bottom, so hoppers or item pipes can keep it fed.[3]

"Loot Llamas" quest about Loot Llamas says they eventually upgrade to premium Farmer's Delight meals, and that max strength (10) llamas drop epic foods like honey glazed ham.[3]

Tip: The kitchen quests starting with "Building Your Kitchen" quest belong to Cooking for Blockheads. That quest warns that certain mods won't connect to the Cooking Table, like the Farmer's Delight Cooking Pot, so check JEI for specific recipes.[3]

    In the Ars Nouveau chapter

"Arcanist's Delight" quest is a checkmark quest in the Ars Nouveau chapter (group "Magic Mods", chapter 16 of 31). It comes after "Welcome To Ars Nouveau!" quest. It tells you that Ars Nouveau's Flavors & Delight is an addon that adds extra foods through Farmer's Delight, including beverages, meals and a pie made from Ars fruits.[9]

Which Farmer's Delight config options matter?

    4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

The pack's config files show how each Farmer's Delight option is set. The config file only prints a mod default next to the pack value for farming.richSoilBoostChance and crafting.cuttingBoardFortuneBonus. For both, the pack keeps the default.[10]

    Farming and crafting

Watch out: The config warns that with tagged-rope climbing enabled, those other ropes will be converted into the block set in the default tomato vine rope option. Keep that in mind if you mix rope types.[10]

    Food and soups

    World generation and trades

    Client options

All the client options are on: enableComfortHealthOverlay, enableNourishmentHungerOverlay and enableFoodEffectTooltip. You get a scrolling overlay on the health meter with the Comfort effect, a gilded overlay on the food meter with the Nourishment effect, and tooltips showing which effects food grants when eaten, if any. The tooltips apply to foods from both Minecraft and the mod.[11]

Tip: Leave debug.enableTomatoRopePermanence on for normal play. Tomato crops hanging on rope force-place a Rope block when broken, which can make commands like setblock fail at first. Only turn it off if that block stops you editing a region in creative or with commands.[10]

What changed in Farmer's Delight between versions?

    3 parts

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Farmer's Delight 1.3.4 for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since Aero 1.0.3 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs. The entries marked 1.21+ apply to this pack.[2][12][13]

    1.3.4

    • Fixed a broken behavior when pushing Feasts with Pistons.[14]
    • Fixed the generateFDChestLoot config option not properly disabling Farmer's Delight's extra chest loot. This fix is marked 1.21.1+, so it applies to this pack.[14]

    1.3.3

    • Fixed Rope reeling not working when the rope touches the void layer (the minimum build height).[12]
    • Fixed a suppressed packet error caused by an unsafe property check in TomatoBlock.[12]
    • Fixed Canvas Signs losing their text color when NBT-copied, such as with CTRL + middle-click.[12]
    • Fixed the Cooking Pot not comparing data components when merging meal output stacks, which affected deciding to cook and moving a meal from the meal slot to the output slot (1.21+).[12]

    1.3.2

This was the biggest balance and compatibility update of the three.[13]

    • Fried Rice and Chicken Soup were nerfed down to the 3-minute tier of meals, due to their ease of cooking.[13]
    • Rice Bag was removed from the straw_blocks tag, since it isn't actually made with Straw. It was added directly to mineable/knife, which is the main use of that tag.[13]
    • Fuel values were added: a Straw Bale smelts 5 items, and a Rope Fence or Rope Fence Gate smelts 1 item each.[13]
    • Fuel values moved into a NeoForge datamap, furnace_fuels.json. The FuelItem and FuelBlockItem classes were deprecated and are due to be removed in the next major or minor update (1.21+).[13]
    • Added Sable weight tagging to Farmer's Delight blocks not covered by default tagging, and gave TomatoBlock broader compatibility checks for different supports (1.21+).[13]
    • Fixed Rope Fences not holding leashed animals in some circumstances, Pumpkins having inverted slicing logic with Silk Touch, and a Cutting Board crash when Fortune is disabled through datapacks (all 1.21+).[13]
    • Fixed an occasional crash caused by a tag reference load order.[13]
    • Added a bg_bg translation and updated es_ar, ja_jp, ko_kr, ru_ru, zh_cn, zh_tw, zh_hk and lzh.[13]

    enableComfortHealthOverlay
If enabled, a scrolling overlay will be shown over the health meter when the player has the Comfort effect.
    config/farmersdelight-client.toml
    truenot documented
    enableFoodEffectTooltip
If enabled, food items will display tooltips showing which effects they grant when eaten, if any. Applies to foods from both Minecraft and this mod.
    config/farmersdelight-client.toml
    truenot documented
    enableNourishmentHungerOverlay
If enabled, a gilded overlay will be shown over the food meter when the player has the Nourishment effect.
    config/farmersdelight-client.toml
    truenot documented
    crafting.enableCookingPotRecipeBook
If enabled, the Cooking Pot will provide a Recipe Book on its interface, similar to the one on Crafting Tables and Furnaces.
    config/farmersdelight-common.toml
    truenot documented
    crafting.enableVanillaCropCrates
If enabled, storage crates (3x3) for vanilla crops (similar to Quark and Thermal Cultivation) will become craftable.
    config/farmersdelight-common.toml
    truenot documented
    debug.enableTomatoRopePermanence
Tomato crops hanging on rope will force-place a Rope block when broken. Due to technical limitations, this affects things such as commands, making them fail to 'setblock' at first. Disable this if this block is preventing you from editing a region in creative or with commands. For normal gameplay, I recommend leaving this enabled.
