What is MEGA Cells?
2 parts
MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that gives you higher storage tiers, from 1M all the way up to 256M. It also adds a handful of specialised cells and some extra tools. This pack ships version 4.11.0 of the mod.[1][2]
It's for you if your AE2 network has outgrown standard cells and you want bigger storage and bigger crafting infrastructure.[2]
What you get
- Larger storage cells, plus the Bulk Item Cell. It holds only one item type, but an effectively infinite amount of it. It needs its own Netherite housing and has to be partitioned before it works.[2][3]
- Bigger crafting CPU tiers, and a MEGA coprocessor that gives four coprocessing threads per block.[4]
- A MEGA Pattern Provider that holds 18 patterns, but only processing patterns.[4]
- The Superdense Energy Cell, which holds up to 12.8 million AE, and the Greater Energy Card for wireless devices.[5]
- Extras: the MEGA Interface (double capacity), the Portable Cell Workbench and the ME Cell Dock.[6]
Where it fits in progression
Almost everything in MEGA starts with Sky Steel Ingot. You alloy it from Iron and one other ingredient, and you'll need a much hotter fluid than water to melt and transform the materials.[2]
Sky Steel then goes into the Accumulation Processor, which is the backbone of almost every MEGA device, from the larger cells to the specialised tools.[2]
The quest book follows the same path. Quest "MEGA Storage" quest in the ae2 chapter asks for Sky Steel Ingot, 1M MEGA Storage Component and Inscriber Accumulation Press.[7]
Sky Steel also shows up in the refined_storage_2 chapter. Quest "Welcome to Refined Storage 2" quest asks for it alongside two Refined Storage items.[8]
How do you get started with MEGA Cells?
5 parts
MEGA Cells is an Applied Energistics 2 add-on that adds storage tiers from 1M all the way up to 256M, plus some specialised cells and tools. To get into it you need one new material first, so the early steps are about setting that up.[2]
Step 1: Make Sky Steel
Almost everything here starts with Sky Steel Ingot. You make it by transforming Sky Stone into a Sky Steel alloy, and plain water won't do the job. You need a much hotter fluid, which is lava in the recipes below.[2][9]
This pack adds its own Sky Steel recipe, shown first. The mod's own transform recipe is shown second.[9]

The pack also changes the Sky Steel recipes from Advanced AE and ExtendedAE, so you have a few routes to choose from.[9]
Step 2: Get the Accumulation Press
Once you have Sky Steel, you can assemble the Accumulation Processor. It is the backbone of almost every MEGA device, from the bigger cells to the specialised tools. You will also want the Inscriber Accumulation Press, which is crafted in the Inscriber.[2][9]

This is the mod's own recipe, the pack has not changed it.
Step 3: Craft your first MEGA component
The 1M MEGA Storage Component is the entry point to the M tiers. It is built from a 256k ME Storage Component, and the Accumulation Processor is part of the recipe. From there the 4M, 16M, 64M and 256M components each build on the one before.[9][10]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: megacells:cells/cell_component_1m
This is the mod's own recipe, the pack has not changed it.
Step 4: Craft a housing
A component needs a housing to become a usable cell. The MEGA Item Cell Housing is the one for plain items, and it uses more Sky Steel.[9][10]

Fluids and other storage types have their own housings. The MEGA Fluid Cell Housing is made with Sky Bronze. The pack changes the recipe for the MEGA Chemical Cell Housing, so go by the recipe shown here rather than the mod's defaults.[9][10]

Optional: Portable cells
MEGA also has portable versions of its cells, like the 1M Portable Item Cell. They use more power than AE2's portable cells, so a regular Energy Card is not strong enough for them. Only the Greater Energy Card works, and it is made from a Superdense Energy Cell.[5][10]

How does MEGA Cells work?
7 parts
MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that adds storage tiers from 1M up to 256M, plus some specialised cells and extra tools. This page covers how its main systems behave once you have them running: the processor and metals behind everything, the storage and portable cells, the Bulk Cell, crafting CPU parts, power, and the extras.[2][10]
The Accumulation Processor and Sky metals
Almost every MEGA device is built around the Accumulation Processor, whether it is a bigger storage cell or one of the specialised tools. It is made in an inscriber from a Printed Silicon, a Printed Accumulation Circuit and fluix dust.[2][9]

Higher tiers need Sky Steel alloy, which is made from iron plus other ingredients and a much hotter fluid than water. Other fluid cells use alloys such as Sky Bronze for their housings.[2][10]
In this pack, Sky Bronze Ingot has several routes. The basic recipe is a transform recipe that uses lava and gives 2 ingots. The Crystal Assembler recipe is changed by the pack and gives 8 ingots. The Productive Bees centrifuge and Advanced AE reaction recipes for it are also changed by the pack. Sky Osmium Ingot comes from an Advanced AE reaction recipe that the pack has changed too.[9]

MEGA storage cells
The Accumulation Processor lets you take standard storage cells from 1M (equivalent to 1024k) to the top tier of 256M. A more capable housing is needed for the new components, and fluids and other types each have their own housing.[10]
The 1M MEGA Storage Component is built on top of an AE2 256k component, and the 16M MEGA Storage Component is built on the 4M component.[9]

Portable cells and power
MEGA has portable versions of all its cells. They draw a lot more energy, so they are crafted with a Dense Energy Cell instead of a regular one. The regular Energy Card is not strong enough for them, and only the Greater Energy Card will do. They still support the same upgrade cards as normal ME portable cells. The pack has changed the recipe for the portable chemical cell shown here.[5][9][10]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: megacells:cells/portable/portable_chemical_cell_16m
This recipe is changed by the pack.
The Superdense Energy Cell holds 64 times as much as a standard energy cell, up to 12.8 million AE per cell. It is also used to craft the Greater Energy Card, which AE2's own wireless devices accept just as they accept the regular Energy Card.[5]
The Bulk Item Cell
A standard cell holds up to 63 item types. The MEGA Bulk Item Cell holds only one type, but with no practical limit on the amount. A network can only handle and display up to about 9.2 quintillion of an item, but the Bulk Cell can internally go beyond that.[3]
It does not use any AE2 or MEGA housing. It is crafted from scratch with its own Netherite housing and dedicated component, so it cannot be taken apart again.[3]
- A new Bulk Cell does nothing until you partition it for one item. Once it is set, the cell prioritises itself as the place that item goes.[3]
- If the filter is cleared or replaced, the cell errors out and refuses new items. You can still extract what is inside.[3]
- It works normally again when the original filter is restored, or when the cell is emptied and given a new filter.[3]
The Compression Card is an upgrade card that only works in the Bulk Cell. With it, the cell accepts the other forms of the stored resource and compresses them automatically, following the crafting recipes between the forms. For example, 9 nuggets inserted become 1 ingot. This works along the whole chain up to blocks and more compressed versions.[3]
To make this work, the cell counts its contents in the smallest unit of the resource, such as a nugget, gem shard or dust. Any form in the chain can be extracted by automation, or by Shift-clicking in a terminal.[3]
Crafting CPU parts and interfaces
MEGA adds bigger storage blocks for crafting CPUs, from 1M MEGA Crafting Storage up to 256M MEGA Crafting Storage. They need their own MEGA Crafting Unit and come in black. The MEGA Crafting Co-Processing Unit provides 4 co-processing threads per block, and the MEGA Crafting Monitor is only a visual match for the rest of the CPU.[4][11]
The MEGA Pattern Provider doubles the pattern capacity to a total of 18 patterns. In exchange it supports processing patterns only, so it cannot hold crafting patterns. The MEGA Interface is a double-capacity interface, with twice the slots, I/O, throughput and stock-keeping.[4][6][11]
Small extras
- The Portable Cell Workbench is a hand-sized workbench that can still configure any storage cell.[6]
- The ME Cell Dock holds one storage cell at a time and has no built-in terminal like the ME Chest. It is a flat cable part, so one cable can carry several docks in a single block space.[6]
Radioactive Chemical Cell
This cell is only relevant if you use Mekanism with Applied Mekanistics. Regular chemical cells refuse radioactive chemicals such as Nuclear Waste, Polonium and Plutonium, while the Radioactive Cell stores only those. It holds one chemical type and must be partitioned first. It holds a finite 256 bytes, which is 2048 buckets, and draws 250 AE/tick while in a connected ME Chest or Drive. By default it refuses Spent Nuclear Waste.[12]
Unverified The guide says the Spent Nuclear Waste restriction can be changed, but it does not say how, and this pack has no config files for the mod. How to change it in this pack is unverified.
How do you progress through MEGA Cells?
4 parts
MEGA Cells is an Applied Energistics 2 add-on that adds storage tiers from 1M up to 256M, plus some specialised cells and extra tooling. In this pack, the path into it starts with Sky Steel, so that's your first goal.[2]
Step 1: Sky Steel and the Accumulation Press
The quest "MEGA Storage" quest in the AE2 chapter asks for a Sky Steel Ingot, a 1M MEGA Storage Component and an Inscriber Accumulation Press. Treat it as your checklist for getting into MEGA.[7]
The pack gives you several routes to a Sky Steel Ingot. The mod's own transform recipe is still there, and the pack also added its own transform recipe that swaps in an item from Refined Storage.[9]

This one was added by the pack.
If you're on the Refined Storage route, the quest "Welcome to Refined Storage 2" quest asks for Quartz Enriched Iron, a Sky Steel Ingot and a Machine Casing.[8]
The pack also changed the Advanced AE reaction recipe and the ExtendedAE crystal assembler recipe for Sky Steel. You can make an ingot in either machine if you already have them.[9]

The Inscriber Accumulation Press is made in the inscriber, and it is a mod recipe the pack leaves as it is.[9]

Step 2: Storage components, 1M to 256M
The MEGA tiers are 1M, 4M, 16M, 64M and 256M. Each component is crafted from the one below it, and the first one builds on AE2's 256k component. Every tier also needs an Accumulation Processor, so you can't skip ahead.[9]

Step 3: Housings and finished cells
A component alone isn't a usable cell. You pair it with a housing, and each cell type has its own. The pack changed the chemical housing recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default for that one.[9]

Once you have a component and a matching housing, you can combine them into a finished storage cell with a shapeless recipe. The 16M fluid cell has one, for example. The pack changed the chemical cell recipes for every tier, from 1M MEGA Chemical Storage Cell to 256M MEGA Chemical Storage Cell.[9]

Specialised and portable cells
The MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell holds only one item type, but with effectively infinite capacity. It doesn't use the normal housings. It has its own Netherite housing and is crafted from scratch with the MEGA Bulk Storage Component. The pack changed this recipe too.[3][9]

Portable cells come in item, fluid, chemical and source versions, from 1M to 256M, for example 1M Portable Item Cell. Each is a shapeless recipe built around the matching component and housing. The pack changed the chemical and source portable recipes.[9]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: megacells:cells/portable/portable_item_cell_1m
MEGA portable cells accept only the Greater Energy Card for extra battery capacity. That card is crafted from the Superdense Energy Cell, which holds up to 12.8 million AE.[5]
How does MEGA Cells work with other mods?
5 parts
MEGA Cells doesn't live on its own in this pack. Its sky alloys, its processors and several of its cell housings are tied into recipes from other mods, and the pack has changed a good number of them. Here's where those links show up.[9]
Sky alloys from other mods' machines
Sky Steel Ingot, Sky Bronze Ingot and Sky Osmium Ingot can each be made in an Advanced AE reaction recipe or in the ExtendedAE crystal assembler. All of those recipes are marked as changed by the pack, and they all revolve around AE2's Charged Certus Quartz Crystal and Sky Stone. The Sky Steel versions are shown below.[9]
Advanced AE reaction route for Sky Steel, changed by the pack. Sky Bronze and Sky Osmium have matching recipes.

Recipe id: extendedae:assembler/sky_steel
The ExtendedAE crystal assembler route for Sky Steel, also changed by the pack.
The pack also adds its own Sky Steel route that uses a Refined Storage item. It's an AE2 transform recipe that combines Sky Stone with Quartz Enriched Iron and lava.[9]

Sky Steel feeds back into Refined Storage
The link goes both ways. The pack adds a Refined Storage Machine Casing recipe that needs a Sky Steel Ingot alongside the Pity Machine Frame and Quartz Enriched Iron. So MEGA's alloy ends up inside Refined Storage progression too.[9]
Shaped (kubejs)
Recipe id: ftb:refinedstorage/machine_casing
Added by the pack.
The quest book follows the same path. Quest "Welcome to Refined Storage 2" quest in the Refined Storage 2 chapter has tasks for Quartz Enriched Iron, a Sky Steel Ingot and a Machine Casing. Quest "MEGA Storage" quest in the AE2 chapter has tasks for a Sky Steel Ingot, a 1M MEGA Storage Component and an Inscriber Accumulation Press.[7][8]
Processors and components
The Accumulation Processor can be made in the ExtendedAE crystal assembler, and the pack has changed that recipe. AE2's Printed Silicon and the Printed Accumulation Circuit are how it connects to the earlier printed stages. The exact recipe is below.[9]
Crystal Assembler (extendedae)
4× Printed Silicon
4× Printed Accumulation Circuit
- 4× any fluix dust
Recipe id: extendedae:assembler/accumulation_processor
That processor goes into every MEGA storage component. The first step, the 1M component, builds on AE2's 256k ME Storage Component, while the two largest tiers (64M and 256M) also use an Matter Ball.[9]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: megacells:cells/cell_component_1m
The first MEGA component, built on the AE2 256k component.
Cell housings
Each MEGA housing type is tied to a different alloy. The item housing uses a Sky Steel tag and the fluid housing uses a Sky Bronze tag, both as mod recipes. The pack has changed the chemical housing so that it uses a Sky Osmium tag.[9]
The source housing is the most unusual one. It's made in an Ars Nouveau enchanting apparatus rather than a crafting table, and the pack changed that recipe. The ME Source Cell Housing, Source Gem Block and Manipulation Essence are part of it, and the block below shows the exact in-pack recipe.[9]
Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)
Recipe id: megacells:cells/mega_source_cell_housing
Changed by the pack.
The 1M, 16M and 256M chemical storage cells are also pack-changed recipes, and each needs a Sky Osmium tag ingot. The MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell recipe is pack-changed too and asks for a netherite ingot. The in-game guide confirms it uses its own dedicated Netherite housing instead of any AE2 or MEGA housing.[3][9]
Portable cells
Every portable cell, whether item, fluid, chemical or source, is built from an AE2 ME Chest, an AE2 Dense Energy Cell, a MEGA storage component and the matching MEGA housing. The chemical and source portable recipes, along with their disassembly recipes, are marked as changed by the pack.[9]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use MEGA Cells?
2 parts
Two quests in the pack involve MEGA Cells, and they sit in two different chapters. Both are untitled in the quest book, so you'll find them by their tasks.[7][8]
The ae2 chapter
Quest "MEGA Storage" quest is the one that is really about MEGA Cells. It unlocks after quest "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest in the same chapter, so finish that one first. It has three item tasks, listed below.[7]
The refined_storage_2 chapter
Quest "Welcome to Refined Storage 2" quest only touches the mod through one item. It comes after quest 3B33C4D5A2D400D4 in its chapter and asks for Quartz Enriched Iron, Sky Steel Ingot and Machine Casing. The only MEGA Cells item in it is the Sky Steel Ingot.[8]
Unverified The sources only give the prerequisite of each quest inside its own chapter. They don't show whether one of these two quests has to be done before the other, or what rewards they give, so check the quest book in-game for that.
