What is Industrial Foregoing: Souls?
2 parts
Industrial Foregoing: Souls is an add-on for Industrial Foregoing that uses souls extracted from Wardens to speed up your machines. This pack includes version 1.10.7 for Minecraft 1.21.1. It's for you if you already have machines running and want them to work faster.[1][2]
How it works
- Extract souls from a Warden with a Soul Laser Base fitted with a Blue Lens. Don't forget the lens, because the base needs it. The Stasis Chamber is a handy partner for this.[1]
- Place a Soul Surge pointing at the block you want to accelerate.[1]
- Connect the Soul Surge to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipe.[1]
By default, each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the target machine 4 times faster. A redstone signal on the Soul Surge stops it from working. If you want to protect a block from being accelerated, add it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]
The mod also gives you a way to get more Echo Shards, since it uses quite a lot of them.[1]
Unverified The sources only show the mod's default config values, such as the speed-up and soul duration. They don't confirm whether this pack changes any of them, so check the in-game config if the numbers matter to you.
Where it fits in this pack
The pack's Industrial Foregoing quest chapter covers this mod in two steps. The first quest "Soul Laser Base" quest has you obtain the Soul Laser Base along with the Laser Drill and the Blue Laser Lens. The follow-up quest "Transporting Souls" quest asks for the Soul Surge and the Soul Pipe.[3]
How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing: Souls?
4 parts
Industrial Foregoing: Souls is all about Warden souls. You pull souls out of a Warden and spend them to make your other machines run faster. The setup is short: a Soul Laser Base to collect souls, Soul Pipes to carry them, and a Soul Surge to speed up a machine.[1]
Step 1: Soul Laser Base
Start with the Soul Laser Base. It extracts souls from a Warden, and it needs a Blue Lens to do that. The mod page puts it in bold: don't forget to add the lens! The Stasis Chamber is recommended as a helper for this job.[1]
The quest "Soul Laser Base" quest asks for the Soul Laser Base, the Laser Drill and the Blue Laser Lens. So the lens is part of the quest line from the start.[3]
The pack changes this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. This is the in-pack version:[4]

Step 2: Soul Pipe
Next, make the Soul Pipe. You use these pipes to connect the Soul Laser Base to the machine that will use the souls. The pack changes this recipe as well.[1][4]
Crafting Shaped

Step 3: Soul Surge
Last is the Soul Surge. Place it pointing at the block you want to accelerate, then connect it to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes. A redstone signal on the Soul Surge stops it from working. The pack changes this recipe too.[1][4]

The quest "Transporting Souls" quest comes right after the laser base quest and asks for the Soul Surge and the Soul Pipe, which matches this order.[3]
What to expect
By the mod's defaults, each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the machine 4 times faster. The laser base also generates 3 souls per operation by default. The mod also adds a way to get more Echo Shards, which it uses a lot.[1]
Unverified These speed and soul values are the mod's defaults. The sources don't show whether this pack changes them in its config, so check in-game before you plan around them.
How does Industrial Foregoing: Souls work?
5 parts
Industrial Foregoing: Souls is built around one loop: pull souls out of a Warden, store them, then spend them to speed up other blocks. You need three pieces for it: the Soul Laser Base, the Soul Pipe and the Soul Surge.[1]
The basic setup
- Extract souls from a Warden with a Soul Laser Base that has a Blue Lens installed. Don't forget the lens, because the base needs it to work. The Stasis Chamber is a good way to hold the Warden.[1]
- Place a Soul Surge so that it points at the block you want to accelerate.[1]
- Connect the Soul Surge to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes.[1]
- To pause the acceleration, apply a redstone signal to the Soul Surge.[1]
The Soul Laser Base
The base stores the souls it extracts. In this pack its tank holds up to 1,350 souls, set by IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOUL_STORAGE_AMOUNT. This is the same as the mod default.[5]
Each time the machine completes an operation it generates souls and damages the Warden. Here is how the pack sets those values:[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOULS_PER_OPERATION is 2 souls per operation. The mod's project page shows 3 in its sample config, but this pack's file lists 2 as the default, so use 2 here.[1][5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.DAMAGE_PER_OPERATION is 4 damage dealt to the Warden per operation.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.MAX_PROGRESS is 20. The config describes it only as the max progress of the machine.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.KILL_WARDEN is false in this pack. This option decides whether the Warden is killed when its life gets close to 0 or kept alive.[5]
Soul Pipes
Soul Pipes carry souls from the base to the Soul Surge. Each pipe can hold 4 souls, set by IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE, which is the mod default.[1][5]
Pipes also spawn particles. The client option IFSoulsClient.SOUL_PIPES_PARTICLES is 0.1 in this pack (the mod default), on a scale where 0 is 0% and 1 is 100%. If long pipe runs look too busy, you can lower it.[6]
The Soul Surge
The Soul Surge spends souls to speed up whatever it points at. By default, each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the target 4 times faster. The pack's IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.SOUL_TIME is 300 ticks, the same as the default.[1][5]
The pack gives each kind of target its own setting for extra ticks. Each of these is 4 in this pack, the same as the mod default:[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ACCELERATION_TICK covers tile entities, which includes machines.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.BLOCK_ACCELERATION_TICK covers blocks.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ENTITIES_ACCELERATION_TICK covers mobs.[5]
Random-tick blocks, such as crops, are accelerated only some of the time. IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.RANDOM_TICK_ACCELERATION_CHANCE is 0.03, so about 3% of the ticks.[5]
Crafting
The pack changed each of these recipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the base mod. Here they are as they work in this pack.[4]

How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing: Souls?
2 parts
Industrial Foregoing: Souls has a short, linear path in this pack. The Industrial Foregoing quest chapter covers it in two quests, and both are untitled in the quest file. There are no formal tiers for this mod, so think of it as two steps.[3]
Step 1: the Soul Laser Base
Quest "Soul Laser Base" quest unlocks after an earlier quest in the chapter. It asks you to hand in the Soul Laser Base, the Laser Drill and the Blue Laser Lens. So you need Industrial Foregoing's laser items before you can finish this step.[3]
The pack changed the Soul Laser Base recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default. Use the recipe below.[4]

Step 2: Soul Surge and Soul Pipe
Quest "Transporting Souls" quest comes right after the laser base quest. Its tasks are the Soul Surge and the Soul Pipe.[3]
The pack changed both recipes, so check them here instead of assuming the mod defaults.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Industrial Foregoing: Souls?
1 part
In this pack, the quests that involve this mod sit in the Industrial Foregoing chapter of the quest book. They follow each other in a line, so you tackle them in order.[3]
Quest order
- "Soul Laser Base" quest unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter. Its tasks are to hand in the Soul Laser Base, the Laser Drill and the Blue Laser Lens.[3]
- "Transporting Souls" quest unlocks after the quest above. Its tasks are to hand in the Soul Surge and the Soul Pipe.[3]
The first of these quests asks for the Soul Laser Base together with the Laser Drill and Blue Laser Lens from base Industrial Foregoing. The follow-up quest then moves on to the Soul Surge and the Soul Pipe.[3]
Which Industrial Foregoing: Souls config options matter?
3 parts
Good news: this addon is pretty light on config. Everything lives in two files, a machines file and a client file. In this pack, the values the files report are the same as the mod defaults they list, with one thing to double-check on the Soul Laser Base (see below).[5][6]
Soul Laser Base (soul production)
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOUL_STORAGE_AMOUNT is 1,350 in this pack. It is the max soul tank amount.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.MAX_PROGRESS is 20. This is the machine's max progress.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOULS_PER_OPERATION is 2. This is how many souls you get each time an operation completes.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.DAMAGE_PER_OPERATION is 4. This is the damage dealt to the Warden per operation.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.KILL_WARDEN is false. Per the config description, this controls whether the Warden is killed when its life gets near 0 or kept alive.[5]
Unverified The pack's config file lists the mod default for souls per operation as 2, but the mod's project page shows a default config with 3. I can't confirm which is correct, so I can't say whether the pack changed this value. What I can confirm is that the pack uses 2.
Soul Surge (acceleration)
The Soul Surge speeds up whatever it points at. The mod page says each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the machine 4 times faster by default. The pack's settings below all match the mod defaults it lists.[1][5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.SOUL_TIME is 300 ticks. This is how long a soul lasts to accelerate ticks.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ACCELERATION_TICK is 4 extra ticks for tile entities, which covers most machines.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.BLOCK_ACCELERATION_TICK is 4 extra ticks for blocks.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ENTITIES_ACCELERATION_TICK is 4 extra ticks for mobs.[5]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.RANDOM_TICK_ACCELERATION_CHANCE is 0.03, so random-tick blocks are accelerated about 3% of the time.[5]
Pipes and visuals
IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE is 4, which is how many souls each pipe can hold.[5]
If your soul pipe runs look too busy, or you want them busier, IFSoulsClient.SOUL_PIPES_PARTICLES is the option to change. It is set to 0.1 here, on a scale from 0.0 (0%) to 1.0 (100%).[6]
What changed in Industrial Foregoing: Souls between versions?
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Industrial Foregoing: Souls 1.10.7. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so it's been part of the pack for a long time.[2]
Unverified The detailed changes in the mod's own changelogs for 1.10.4, 1.10.5 and 1.10.7 could not be confirmed from the material available, and there are no pack changelog entries for this mod. Specific fixes, additions or balance changes between those versions are unverified.
