What is Productive Metalworks?

1 part

Productive Metalworks is in this pack as version 1.21.1-1.6.0. If you like working with metal and making your own gear, this is one to look out for![1]

The mod's items point toward casting. You'll run into Fire Clay, a Liquid Heating Coil, the Casting Table, the Casting Basin, the Foundry Tap, and a whole set of casts.[2]

Where it fits in the pack

In this pack, you'll find the quests for Productive Metalworks in the Silent Gear quest chapter. If you're working through that chapter, this mod is part of your path. Here's the order the quests unlock in:[2]

  1. First, grab some Fire Clay for a quest in "?".[2]
  2. Next, a quest in "?" asks for a Liquid Heating Coil. It opens once you've finished the Fire Clay quest plus a few other quests in the chapter.[2]
  3. After that, a quest in "?" wants a Casting Table, a Casting Basin and a Foundry Tap.[2]
  4. The cast quests come next: a quest in "?" for the Ingot Cast, a quest in "?" for the Nugget Cast, a quest in "?" for the Gem Cast, a quest in "?" for the Rod Cast, a quest in "?" for the Plate Cast and a quest in "?" for the Gear Cast. All six unlock after the same earlier quest in the chapter.[2]
Tip: The mod comes with its own in-game guide book. It's the best place to look for the details of how everything works.[3][4][5]

Unverified The exact mechanics aren't confirmed here. That includes how the foundry structure is built, what you can melt, and how casting ties into Silent Gear parts. Check the in-game guide book for these details.

How do you get started with Productive Metalworks?

5 parts

Productive Metalworks is all about melting metal in a foundry and casting it into new shapes. In this pack, its early quests sit in the Silent Gear quest chapter, and they give you a clear order to follow: Fire Clay first, then the Liquid Heating Coil, then your casting blocks, and finally the casts.[2]

Step 1: Fire Clay

The first quest in the chain, a quest in "?", just asks for Fire Clay. It's a simple shaped crafting recipe, and it's the start of everything this mod builds.[2][6]

Why does it matter? Almost every foundry and casting block you'll craft next uses Fire Brick. That includes the Casting Table, Casting Basin, Foundry Tap, Liquid Heating Coil, foundry drains, tanks, windows and controllers. So stock up.[6]

Unverified The sources don't show how Fire Clay becomes Fire Brick. Check the recipe viewer in-game; smelting is a common method, but it isn't confirmed here. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Step 2: Liquid Heating Coil

Next, the chain asks for a Liquid Heating Coil in a quest in "?". That quest also needs a few other quests done first, so you may need to finish some neighbouring quests in the chapter before it unlocks.[2]

Step 3: Casting Table, Casting Basin and Foundry Tap

Once the coil is done, a quest in "?" asks for three blocks at once: the Casting Table, the Casting Basin and the Foundry Tap. All three are shaped crafting recipes built from Fire Brick.[2][6]

Tip: Don't stress about colour. Controllers, drains, tanks, windows and fire bricks can all be re-dyed later with shapeless dye recipes, so you can match your foundry to your base whenever you like.[6]

Unverified The sources don't describe the foundry's shape, size or placement rules. Check the in-game guide book before you build.

Step 4: Casts

Casts come next. Each has its own quest: Ingot Cast in a quest in "?", Nugget Cast in a quest in "?", Plate Cast in a quest in "?", Rod Cast in a quest in "?", Gear Cast in a quest in "?" and Gem Cast in a quest in "?". Casts aren't made in a crafting grid; they use the mod's own item casting recipes.[2][6]

How does Productive Metalworks work?

4 parts

The heart of this mod is the Foundry, a machine that works with fluids and can even alloy them together. You build it from a set of dedicated parts, and you can speed it up or change its behavior with upgrades. The in-pack sources only explain part of how it all works, so this section sticks to what can be confirmed.[6][7]

The Foundry and its parts

The mod adds a family of Foundry blocks: the Black Foundry Controller, the Black Foundry Drain, the Black Foundry Tank and the Black Foundry Window. Alongside them are Black Fire Bricks, built from the mod's own Fire Brick. Nearly every Foundry piece starts from Fire Brick, so that's the material you'll want to stockpile first.[6]

Unverified The exact multiblock layout (required size, which blocks go where, and what each part does in the structure) could not be confirmed from the available sources. The in-game guide book has pages on building and structure, so check it in-game for the details.

Recoloring your Foundry

In this pack the black variants of the Foundry parts have their own crafting recipes. You can recolor any Fire Bricks, Foundry Controller, Foundry Drain, Foundry Tank or Foundry Window by crafting it with a dye. That's how you get pieces like the Blue Foundry Controller, the Brown Foundry Tank or Cyan Fire Bricks, so you can match your Foundry to your base.[6]

Upgrades

The mod has upgrades that change how its machines run. Here's what their in-game descriptions say:[7]

  • The time upgrade goes into machines for faster processing. You can install several of them to cut processing time even further.[7]
  • A second tier of the time upgrade is described as twice as good as the first one.[7]
  • The stability upgrade turns off fluid alloying in the Foundry. Use it when you want your molten fluids to stay separate instead of combining.[7]
Tip: If your Foundry keeps mixing fluids into alloys you didn't want, a stability upgrade is the fix. It disables fluid alloying in the Foundry entirely.[7]

Unverified How many upgrades a machine can hold and the exact speed bonus per time upgrade could not be confirmed from the available sources.

Casting

To go with the Foundry, the mod has two casting blocks: the Casting Table and the Casting Basin. Both are crafted from Fire Brick.[6]

Unverified How casting works (how fluid gets from the Foundry to the table or basin, which casts are used, and what each block produces) could not be confirmed from the available sources. The same goes for how Fire Brick is first obtained, and for any Silent Gear integration, although the in-game guide has pages on Silent Gear parts, casts and grading.

How do you progress through Productive Metalworks?

5 parts

Productive Metalworks has no numbered machine tiers to climb. Progression is a build order: make the fire-resistant materials, build the heating and casting gear, then collect casts. This pack guides you through it with quests in its Silent Gear chapter, so you can follow them in order.[2]

Step 1: Fire Clay

Your first quest, a quest in "?", only asks for Fire Clay. It's a normal shaped crafting recipe, so you can make it as soon as you have the basic materials.[2][6]

Almost everything after this uses Fire Brick. The casting blocks, the Foundry Tap, the heating coil and the foundry structure pieces all call for Fire Brick in this pack's recipes.[6]

Unverified The provided recipe data doesn't show how Fire Clay becomes Fire Brick, so check the in-game recipe viewer for that step. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Step 2: Liquid Heating Coil

Next is a quest in "?", which asks for a Liquid Heating Coil. It unlocks after the Fire Clay quest and also depends on other quests in the same chapter, so finish those too if it's still locked.[2]

Step 3: Casting Table, Casting Basin and Foundry Tap

After the coil, a quest in "?" asks for three blocks: a Casting Table, a Casting Basin and a Foundry Tap. All three are shaped crafting recipes built from Fire Brick.[2][6]

The foundry itself is built from four kinds of parts: a controller, drains, tanks and windows. The base versions come out black: Black Foundry Controller, Black Foundry Drain, Black Foundry Tank and Black Foundry Window. Step 4: Casts

The last group of quests is about casts: a quest in "?" for the Ingot Cast, a quest in "?" for the Nugget Cast, a quest in "?" for the Plate Cast, a quest in "?" for the Rod Cast, a quest in "?" for the Gem Cast and a quest in "?" for the Gear Cast. They all unlock from the same earlier quest in the chapter, so you can do them in any order.[2]

Casts aren't made in a crafting grid. They use the mod's own item casting recipes, and each cast is shaped from an item of that type, such as an ingot for the Ingot Cast or a gear for the Gear Cast.[6]

Tip: Look at the cast recipes before you start collecting casts. Every one of them needs the same molten metal, so get that metal flowing in your foundry first and then make all the casts you want in one go.[6]

How does Productive Metalworks work with other mods?

7 parts

Productive Metalworks connects to a lot of other mods in this pack. Its casts can pour other mods' molten metals and fluids into finished parts, and the pack has adjusted many of these recipes so they output the pack's shared All The Ores materials. Here's what you can make.[6]

Allthemodium metals

You can cast Molten Allthemodium, Molten Vibranium and Molten Unobtainium with the Gear Cast, Ingot Cast, Nugget Cast, Plate Cast and Rod Cast. That gives you gears, ingots, nuggets, plates and rods for all three metals, such as Allthemodium Gear, Vibranium Plate and Unobtainium Rod.[6]

Create metals, changed by the pack

The recipes the mod ships for Create's metals have been changed by the pack to output All The Ores items instead. Molten brass and zinc cast into blocks, ingots and nuggets like Brass Ingot and Zinc Block. The sheet recipes now give you plates: Brass Plate, Copper Plate, Gold Plate and Iron Plate. The copper nugget recipe now outputs Copper Nugget.[6]

There's a sweet bonus too: you can cast Create's Chocolate in an ingot cast to get a Bar of Chocolate. The pack left this recipe as the mod made it.[6]

Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/create/bar_of_chocolate

Immersive Engineering metals, changed by the pack

The mod's recipes for Immersive Engineering metals have also been changed by the pack to output All The Ores items. Molten aluminum, constantan, electrum, nickel, silver and steel cast into blocks, ingots and nuggets, for example Steel Ingot, Electrum Block and Constantan Nugget. The block versions are block casting recipes and don't use a cast item.[6]

Gears for All The Ores

The Gear Cast makes a long list of All The Ores gears, from Iron Gear and Copper Gear up to Enderium Gear, Iridium Gear and Netherite Gear. These recipes accept any fluid with the matching common molten tag, so molten metal from different mods should work, as long as it has that tag.[6]

The mod's gear recipes for Modern Industrialization's aluminum, bronze, invar, steel and tin were changed by the pack. They now give you Aluminum Gear, Bronze Gear, Invar Gear, Steel Gear and Tin Gear.[6]

Gems

The Gem Cast turns molten gems back into solid gems. Most of these output Silent Gems gems like Black Diamond, Alexandrite and Moldavite. The pack changed the ruby, sapphire and peridot recipes so they give you Ruby, Sapphire and Peridot instead.[6]

Quests in the Silent Gear chapter

In this pack, the Productive Metalworks quests are part of the Silent Gear quest chapter. The line starts with Fire Clay in a quest in "?" and leads to the Liquid Heating Coil in a quest in "?". After that, a quest in "?" asks for the Casting Table, Casting Basin and Foundry Tap.[2]

The same chapter has a quest for each cast: a quest in "?" for the rod cast, a quest in "?" for the gem cast, a quest in "?" for the ingot cast, a quest in "?" for the nugget cast, a quest in "?" for the plate cast and a quest in "?" for the gear cast.[2]

Unverified The mod's in-game guide has a category about Silent Gear, which suggests the foundry can make Silent Gear parts. None of its text could be checked here, so how that integration works is not confirmed.

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Productive Metalworks?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

All the quests for this mod sit in one chapter, the Silent Gear chapter. None of them has a title in the quest data, so this section identifies them by their ID and by what they ask you to hand in. Every task is an item submission.[8]

The foundry setup chain

This chain walks you through getting your metalworking station running, in this order:[8]

  1. a quest in "?" is the starting point. It asks for Fire Clay.[8]
  2. a quest in "?" asks for a Liquid Heating Coil plus a second item task. The data doesn't say which item that is. This quest unlocks only after a quest in "?" and three other quests that aren't part of this mod.[8]
  3. a quest in "?" asks for three items: a Casting Table, a Casting Basin and a Foundry Tap. It unlocks after a quest in "?".[8]

The cast quests

Six more quests each ask for a single cast item. All six unlock after the same quest, which belongs to another mod and isn't covered by this guide. They don't depend on each other, so you can do them in any order.[8]

Unverified The quest data doesn't show whether the cast quests are meant to be finished before or after the foundry setup chain, or what rewards any of these quests give.

What changed in Productive Metalworks between versions?

1 part

If you're playing All the Mods 10 3.2, you're running Productive Metalworks version 1.21.1-1.6.0. The mod was added to the pack in version 2.32 and has been updated regularly since then. That matters if you're following older videos or guides, because they may show an earlier version of the mod.[1][9]
