What is Productive Bees?
1 part
Productive Bees takes the vanilla bees you already know and turns them into a full resource-farming system. This pack runs version 1.21.1-13.7.5 of the mod, and it has been part of All the Mods 10 since version 2.25 or earlier.[1][2]
The big idea is breeding. Around the overworld you'll find new bees living in well hidden nests in different biomes. These solitary bees won't move into a hive, but their genetics let you breed new types of bees. Other bees only show up in other dimensions. Wild bees live mainly in the Nether and the End, and unlike solitary bees they will happily move into a hive.[2][3][4]
Your end goal is usually hive bees. These produce honey and resources, but they have to live in advanced hives to make resource combs. Most of them are bred from solitary bees and other hive bees, and a few are made by giving a specific item to a bee or by crafting spawn eggs. You then run those combs through a Centrifuge to turn them into resources and honey.[5][6]
Resources aren't the whole story. Professional bees have special jobs. Farmer Bees harvest nearby crops, Collector Bees pick up items from the ground, Lumber Bees gather wood, Quarry Bees nibble on stone, sand or gravel, and Rancher Bees milk and shear nearby animals.[7][8][9][10][11][12]
Once you're deeper in, there's a genetics layer too. You can change bee attributes like productivity, weather tolerance, activity time, endurance and temper by putting isolated genes on a Honey Treat and feeding it to a bee.[13][14]
Where it fits in this pack
The pack gives Productive Bees its own quest chapter. One early quest, a quest in "?", asks for a Bee Cage, and it leads into a quest in "?" for the Nest Locator. The chapter also covers collecting nests, machines like the Bottler, Catcher and BaBee Incubator, and a long list of honeycomb quests.[15]
How do you get started with Productive Bees?
5 parts
Productive Bees builds on vanilla bees, so it helps to know how vanilla bees work. Besides the vanilla bee, you'll find new bees living in well-hidden nests in different biomes. These solitary bees won't live in a hive, but their genetics let you breed new types of bees.[2]
Step 1: Honey and Bee Cages
Your first job is to find a vanilla bee nest and collect honey bottles and honeycombs. You need the honey bottles for Bee Cage, which make it much easier to bring bees home.[2]

Alternative recipe for the Bee Cage
To catch a bee, right-click it with a cage. To release it, right-click the filled cage on the ground. Carry a few cages whenever you travel, in case you spot an interesting bee. In this pack, crafting a Bee Cage completes the quest a quest in "?".[15][16]
Step 2: Advanced Beehive and Expansion Box
Once you have enough honeycombs, build an advanced beehive and an expansion box. The advanced beehive has a GUI where you can see which bees are inside and take out what they produce. It doesn't need a campfire to be harvested, and you can break it and move it with the bees still inside, no silk touch required.[2][17]
This hive matters because hive bees only produce resource combs when they live in advanced hives. Attaching an expansion box raises the hive's bee capacity from 3 to 5 and lets you install upgrades. You can place the box on top of or next to the hive, but each hive can only have one.[5][17][18]
Step 3: Hunting for Nests
Nests are scattered around the world, and each one is home to 1 solitary bee. Break a nest to pick it up with the bee still inside, no silk touch needed.[19]
The Nest Locator helps you find nests. Shift right-click it on a nest, or on a block of the nest type you want, then right-click again to locate nearby nests of that type. In this pack, its quest a quest in "?" unlocks after the Bee Cage quest.[15][20]
Step 4: Processing Combs
Bees in advanced beehives produce resource combs, and a Centrifuge turns those combs into resources and honey. It holds 10 buckets of liquid and automatically outputs fluid into any fluid storage block placed next to it. Later, the Powered Centrifuge uses FE to process faster. The pack's centrifuge quest a quest in "?" accepts any centrifuge type.[6][15][21]

The bottler also makes Honey Treat. Honey treats calm angry bees and make baby bees grow up faster. You can also right-click an empty nest with one to attract a new bee.[19][23][24]
How does Productive Bees work?
9 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Productive Bees builds on vanilla bees, and almost everything runs on one loop. Bees live in advanced hives and bring back resource combs, and you process those combs in machines. Upgrades, genetics and professional bees all plug into that loop, so once you understand it the rest falls into place.[2][5][21]
Advanced hives and expansion boxes
The advanced hive is your main building block. Unlike a vanilla hive, it doesn't need a campfire nearby to be harvested. You can also break it and move it with the bees still inside, no silk touch needed. Its GUI shows which bees are inside and lets you take out whatever they've produced.[17]
Put empty Bee Cages into the hive to pull bees out, or put filled cages in to add bees. That makes it easy to reshuffle your apiary without chasing bees around.[25]

Attach an expansion box to raise the hive's bee capacity from 3 to 5 and unlock upgrade slots. The box goes on top of the hive or next to it, and each hive can only have one. Wood types get their own boxes, like the Birch Expansion Box, and there are canvas versions too, such as the Canvas Expansion Box.[17][18][26]

Other wood types have matching expansion boxes.
Combs and the Centrifuge
The Centrifuge turns resource combs into resources and honey. It holds 10 buckets of liquid, which you can pump out, and it automatically pushes fluid into any fluid storage block placed next to it. The Powered Centrifuge runs on FE for faster processing, and a Speed upgrade also makes a centrifuge work faster.[6][21][27]

This pack has a second recipe for the same Centrifuge.
For easier storage, you can compress combs into comb blocks and craft them back later. For example, Milky Comb compresses into Milky Comb Block. A hive upgrade can also make bees produce comb blocks directly instead of single honeycombs.[21][25][26][27]

The Honey Generator burns honey to make power. You can pipe honey in, or add honey bottles, blocks and buckets through its GUI. It accepts two upgrades: Productivity lowers its honey use and Speed makes it run faster.[28]
Upgrades
Upgrades go into machines and hives to add features or boost performance. A hive needs an expansion box before it can take upgrades. To install an upgrade, sneak and right-click the block with it.[17][25][27]
- Productivity: bees make more combs per trip. You can stack several in one hive.[27]
- Speed: bees spend less time inside the hive. In a centrifuge or incubator, it speeds up the machine instead.[27]
- BaBee: bees in the hive get a small chance to produce offspring every time honey is delivered, based on which bees are present. It doesn't work with bees that can't breed among themselves. In a Catcher, it makes the Catcher catch only BaBees.[25][27]
- Filter: right-click bees to add them to the filter, and put it in a crafting grid to clear it. In a hive, only filtered bees may enter. In a Catcher, only filtered bees get picked up.[25][27]
- Range: raises the operating range of Farmer and Collector or Hoarder bees by 1 per upgrade, from the default of 4. In a Catcher, it expands the area by 1 block in all directions. You can install several.[27]
- Anti-teleport: bees that can teleport stop doing so while they live in that hive.[25][27]
- Gene sampler: slowly extracts genes from visiting bees without hurting them. More upgrades in the same hive improve the rate.[25][27]
- Comb block: bees produce full comb blocks instead of honeycombs.[25][27]
- Simulator: bees no longer leave the hive. Their flower trip is simulated for better server performance.[27]
Feeding slabs
A Feeding Slab is a central feeding spot that holds 3 item blocks. When Lumber or Quarry bees feed from it, they produce from a random item in the feeder. A simulated hive only has 1 flower block position, so a feeding slab lets you have up to 3 different bees working in that hive. You can also honeylog the slab, which gives your bees regeneration.[25][29]
Catching and breeding bees
The Catcher catches any bee flying over it, as long as you load it with cages. Put a flower or feeding slab on top to attract bees. It takes the BaBee, Filter and Range upgrades.[30]
The Breeding Chamber breeds bees in a safe environment. Supply it with the two parent bees, their breeding items, power and empty cages for the offspring. Speed upgrades make it faster. To change which offspring you get, remove a cage and put it back.[25][31]

The Incubator speeds up growing baby bees. Put the BaBee in a cage and insert it with some honey treats. It can also infuse an egg with a bee type gene to make a spawn egg of that bee. Only the type gene is used, so any other genes on the honey treat are lost.[32]
Genetics
Bees carry attributes you can move between them: productivity, weather tolerance, day or night behaviour, endurance and temper. Some bees also apply effects to nearby players.[13]
- Set up the Bottler with a piston, place a bee in the middle and pull the lever. Make sure the Bottler has empty bottles inside.[22][33]
- Put the bottled bee into a Centrifuge to separate the genes from the junk. A gene sampler upgrade in a hive is another way to collect genes.[6][27][33]
- Combine a gene with a honey treat and feed the treat to a bee. The bee has a chance to gain the attribute, based on the gene's purity.[13][14]
- Raise purity by combining two of the same gene, or by putting more of the same gene onto a treat.[14]
If you have piles of genes, the Gene Indexer combines them automatically. Fill it up and give it a redstone signal. The guide admits it might not be the most efficient way to do it, but it's hands-off.[25][34]
Professional bees and farm automation
Some bees do jobs instead of making combs. The Farmer Bee harvests crops within a 4 block radius of its hive and leaves the produce on the ground. Range upgrades increase that radius. Collector and Hoarder Bees pick up items from the ground and store them in their hive, so pairing them with a Farmer Bee gives you an automated farm.[7][8][9][27][35]
Lumber Bees nibble nearby wood and Quarry Bees nibble stone, sand or gravel, both storing the results in their hive. Quarry Bees produce stone chips that craft into the matching block. Rancher Bees milk nearby cows, sheep or llamas into milky combs and also shear sheep.[10][11][12]
Keeping it lag-friendly
Bees are entities, and their pathing and AI can be heavy. Give every bee a home and its required flower block, and keep enclosures from getting too big, or the bees will wander off. A simulator upgrade removes the bee entities from the world entirely. If you run lots of centrifuges, consider turning off comb rendering in the mod's client config.[36]
How do you progress through Productive Bees?
7 parts
The pack's Productive Bees quest chapter starts small. First you craft a Bee Cage for a quest in "?", then grab a Nest Locator for a quest in "?". From there the chapter splits into nests to track down, machines to build and a big branching tree of honeycomb quests.[15]

Finding nests and catching bees
Your first bees come from nests. Solitary bees spawn from solitary nests in the overworld. Wild bees also live in nests, mainly in the Nether and the End, but unlike solitary bees they will happily move into a hive.[3][4]
The nest quests ask you to collect them all. a quest in "?" wants every wood nest: Oak Nest, Dark Oak Nest, Jungle Nest, Spruce Nest, Birch Nest, Acacia Nest, Cherry Nest, Mangrove Nest and Bamboo Nest. Separate quests cover the Stone Nest (a quest in "?"), Dirt Nest (a quest in "?"), Sand Nest (a quest in "?"), Gravel Nest (a quest in "?"), Snow Nest (a quest in "?"), Reed Nest (a quest in "?"), Slimy Nest (a quest in "?"), Nether Brick Nest (a quest in "?"), Nether Gold Nest (a quest in "?"), Quartz Nest (a quest in "?"), Soul Sand Nest (a quest in "?"), Glowstone Nest (a quest in "?"), End Stone Nest (a quest in "?") and Obsidian Nest (a quest in "?").[15]
Some nests hold bees you will need for breeding. Crystalline Bees live in nether quartz nests. Ghostly Bees live in soul sand nests. Magmatic Bees live in nether brick nests in fortresses. Ender Bees live in end stone nests, and Slimy Bees live in slimy nests in swampy biomes.[37][38][39][40][41]
The core machines
A second group of quests asks for the mod's machines and basics. They all unlock from the same parent quest, so you can tackle them in any order.[15]
- Catcher (a quest in "?"): load it with cages and it catches any bee flying over it. Put a flower or feeding slab on top to attract bees.[15][30]
- Centrifuge (a quest in "?"): turns resource combs into resources and honey and holds 10 buckets of liquid. Any of the centrifuge tiers completes this quest.[6][15]
- Bottler (a quest in "?"): bottles honey and other fluids, and fills automatically when placed next to a centrifuge.[15][22]
- Feeding Slab (a quest in "?"): a feeding point that holds 3 item blocks. It pairs really well with simulated hives.[15][29]
- Honey Treat (a quest in "?"): it unlocks the specialty comb quests, and the incubator uses it.[15][32]
- BaBee Incubator (a quest in "?"): grows caged BaBees faster using honey treats. It can also infuse an egg with a bee type gene to make a spawn egg.[15][32]
- Gene Indexer (a quest in "?"): combines your gene samples automatically. It needs a redstone signal.[15][34]
- Bee Jar (a quest in "?"): a display jar for a caged bee.[15][42]
The Honey Treat has several in-pack recipes, including one made in the Bottler.
Centrifuge tiers
The basic Centrifuge has two in-pack recipes, so pick whichever suits your materials. The next tier, the Powered Centrifuge, runs on FE and processes faster.[6][23]

Unverified The provided sources don't confirm what the Heated Centrifuge does beyond the Powered Centrifuge, or how the Powered Centrifuge is crafted in this pack.
Advanced hives and upgrades
Hive bees have to live in advanced hives to produce resource combs. Advanced hives don't need a campfire to harvest, and you can break and move them with the bees still inside, no silk touch needed. An expansion box raises the bee capacity from 3 to 5 and lets you install upgrades.[5][17]
Upgrades are where your hives really scale. Productivity upgrades add combs per trip, Speed upgrades cut the time bees spend inside, and the BaBee upgrade gives a small chance of automatic breeding. Another upgrade makes bees produce full comb blocks, and one more keeps bees inside the hive and simulates their flower trip for better server performance.[27]
Unverified The recipes for advanced hives, expansion boxes and upgrades in this pack are not included in the provided sources, so check JEI. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Breeding up the resource tree
Most hive bees are bred from solitary bees and other hive bees. Some come from feeding a bee a specific item or from crafting spawn eggs. JEI lists every bee recipe and flower requirement, so use it to confirm each step in the pack.[5]
The in-game guide describes this breeding chain toward the gem bees:[43][44][45][46][47][48]
- Breed a Glowing Bee with a Chocolate Mining Bee to get a Redstone Bee.[43]
- Breed a Redstone Bee with a Blue Banded Bee to get a Lapis Bee.[44]
- Breed an Ender Bee with a Lapis Bee to get a Diamond Bee.[45]
- Breed a Slimy Bee with a Diamond Bee to get an Emerald Bee.[46]
- Breed an Emerald Bee with a Lapis Bee to get an Experience Bee.[47]
- Feed a Diamond Bee a block of netherite to convert it into an Ancient Bee.[48]
For the metals, the in-game guide lists the Crystalline Bee as the key parent: breed it with a Mason Bee for a Gold Bee, or with an Ashy Mining Bee for an Iron Bee.[49][50]
Specialty combs
After the Honey Treat quest, the chapter asks for a Sugarbag Honeycomb (a quest in "?"), a Ghostly Comb (a quest in "?") and a Treat on a Stick with a saddle (a quest in "?"). Other quests want a Powdery Comb (a quest in "?") and a Milky Comb (a quest in "?").[15]
In this pack, the CreeBee produces Powdery Comb, the Rancher Bee produces Milky Comb, the Ghostly Bee produces Ghostly Comb, and the Sugarbag Bee produces Sugarbag Honeycomb. You get a CreeBee by feeding TNT to a vanilla bee. Rancher Bees milk nearby cows, sheep or llamas. Ghostly Bees come from soul sand nests, and Sugarbag Bees live in tropical areas.[12][23][38][51][52]
Late game: the honeycomb tree and cross-mod bees
Many honeycomb quests chain off earlier ones and need several prerequisites. The deepest one, a quest in "?", only unlocks after you finish both a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[15]
Many high-end bees in this pack come from other mods' machines rather than breeding. Most of these recipes take an existing bee and output a spawn egg for the new type. They include AE2 in-world transformation, the Ars Nouveau enchanting apparatus, Ender IO alloy smelting, Mystical Agriculture awakening, the Ice and Fire dragon forge, Modern Industrialization's centrifuge and electrolyzer, the Immersive Engineering squeezer and Forbidden Arcanus clibano combustion.[23]

Bees also feed into the rest of the pack. Several other quest chapters ask for Productive Bees honeycombs, comb blocks or bee spawn eggs, so an early bee setup pays off well beyond this chapter.[53][54][55][56][57][58][59][60]
How does Productive Bees work with other mods?
3 parts
Productive Bees is well connected in this pack. Items from other mods can turn your bees into new species, lots of combs centrifuge into other mods' resources, and some bee products and bees show up in recipes elsewhere. Here's how the pieces fit together.[23]
Turning bees into new species
Some hive bees aren't bred at all. You make them by giving a specific item to a bee. In this pack plenty of those conversion items come from other mods, including Actually Additions, Applied Energistics 2, Evilcraft, Forbidden Arcanus, Industrial Foregoing, Just Dire Things, Mekanism, Modern Industrialization, Mystical Agriculture, Create Enchantment Industry, the Undergarden and All the Tweaks. JEI shows each conversion item.[5][23]

Combs that give other mods' resources
The centrifuge is where the payoff happens. Combs in this pack give things like Fluix Crystal, Allthemodium Nugget, Vibranium Nugget, Unobtainium Nugget, Patrick Star, Flux Dust, Source Gem, Dark Gem and a whole set of Ender IO alloy nuggets, each alongside Wax.[23]
The pack changed several comb recipes to output All The Ores items. The alloy combs (brass, bronze, constantan, electrum, enderium, invar, lumium, signalum and steel) give All The Ores nuggets like Steel Nugget. The sulfur, cinnabar and fluorite combs give Sulfur, Cinnabar Dust and Fluorite. The latex comb was also changed and gives Industrial Foregoing Plastic.[23]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Productive Bees?
5 parts
Productive Bees has its own quest chapter in this pack, and a few of its items also show up in other chapters. Almost every quest is a simple item task: get the item and you're done. The notes below show which quests unlock which, so you can see what opens up next.[15][53][54][55][56][57][58][59][60]
The Productive Bees chapter: getting started
One entry point is a quest in "?", which asks for a Bee Cage. Finish it to unlock a quest in "?", which asks for a Nest Locator. That's the tool for tracking down the nests you'll need later.[15]
A big group of quests all unlock from the same earlier quest. They share that prerequisite, so you can do them in any order you like.[15]
- a quest in "?": a Honey Treat. This one opens a whole branch of its own, covered below.[15]
- a quest in "?": a Feeding Slab.[15]
- a quest in "?": a Bee Jar.[15]
- a quest in "?": a centrifuge. Any of the Centrifuge, Powered Centrifuge or Heated Centrifuge counts.[15]
- a quest in "?": a BaBee Incubator.[15]
- a quest in "?": a Gene Indexer.[15]
- a quest in "?": a Bottler.[15]
- a quest in "?": a Catcher.[15]
- a quest in "?": a Honeycomb. It leads on to a quest in "?".[15]
The Honey Treat branch
Once you finish a quest in "?", several more quests become available. a quest in "?" wants a Sugarbag Honeycomb, and a quest in "?" wants a Ghostly Comb. a quest in "?" asks for a Treat on a Stick plus a vanilla saddle. The branch also unlocks the honeycomb quests a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[15]
Nests
The nest quests all share one prerequisite. a quest in "?" is the big one, because it asks for all the wood nests in a single quest. That means the Oak Nest, Dark Oak Nest, Jungle Nest, Spruce Nest, Birch Nest, Acacia Nest, Cherry Nest and Mangrove Nest, plus the Bamboo Nest.[15]
- Overworld nests: a quest in "?" asks for a Stone Nest, a quest in "?" for a Dirt Nest, a quest in "?" for a Sand Nest and a quest in "?" for a Gravel Nest.[15]
- More overworld nests: a quest in "?" asks for a Snow Nest, a quest in "?" for a Reed Nest, a quest in "?" for a Slimy Nest and a quest in "?" for an Obsidian Nest.[15]
- Nether nests: a quest in "?" asks for a Soul Sand Nest, a quest in "?" for a Nether Gold Nest, a quest in "?" for a Nether Brick Nest, a quest in "?" for a Glowstone Nest and a quest in "?" for a Quartz Nest.[15]
- End nest: a quest in "?" asks for an End Stone Nest.[15]
Honeycomb collection
Most of the chapter is honeycomb collecting. A large set of honeycomb quests shares a single prerequisite. It includes a quest in "?" for a Powdery Comb and a quest in "?" for a Milky Comb. It also includes many Honeycomb quests, such as a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[15]
On top of that sits a chain of honeycomb quests that pulls several branches together. This is the order they unlock in.[15]
- a quest in "?" and a quest in "?" unlock from the same earlier quest. a quest in "?" leads to a quest in "?", which then leads to a quest in "?".[15]
- a quest in "?" needs both a quest in "?" and a quest in "?" from the Honey Treat branch.[15]
- a quest in "?" unlocks a quest in "?". It also unlocks a quest in "?", which additionally needs a quest in "?".[15]
- a quest in "?" needs a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". a quest in "?" needs a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[15]
- a quest in "?" needs both a quest in "?" and a quest in "?", which makes it the end of this chain.[15]
Unverified The quest data only lists the generic honeycomb and spawn egg items. It doesn't show which bee type each individual honeycomb or spawn egg quest asks for.
Productive Bees in other chapters
- The Rust Free and Oiled chapter has three honeycomb quests: a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[53]
- In the chapter 2 The Star chapter, a quest in "?" asks for a Spawn Egg Configurable Bee and a quest in "?" asks for a Comb Block.[54]
- In the Basic Power chapter, a quest in "?" asks for a Spawn Egg Configurable Bee.[55]
- In the Bumblezone chapter, a quest in "?" asks for a Comb Block.[56]
- In the Mystical Agriculture chapter, a quest in "?" asks for a Spawn Egg Configurable Bee.[57]
- In the Forbidden Arcanus chapter, a quest in "?" asks for a Honeycomb.[58]
- In the Integrated Dynamics chapter, a quest in "?" asks for a Honeycomb.[59]
- In the Steam Age chapter, a quest in "?" asks for a Honeycomb.[60]
