What is Productive Bees?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.4 guide
Productive Bees takes the vanilla bees you already know and turns them into a full resource-farming system. This pack runs version 1.21.1-13.7.5 of the mod, and it has been part of All the Mods 10 since version 2.25 or earlier.[1][2]
The big idea is breeding. Around the overworld you'll find new bees living in well hidden nests in different biomes. These solitary bees won't move into a hive, but their genetics let you breed new types of bees. Other bees only show up in other dimensions. Wild bees live mainly in the Nether and the End, and unlike solitary bees they will happily move into a hive.[2][3][4]
Your end goal is usually hive bees. These produce honey and resources, but they have to live in advanced hives to make resource combs. Most of them are bred from solitary bees and other hive bees, and a few are made by giving a specific item to a bee or by crafting spawn eggs. You then run those combs through a Centrifuge to turn them into resources and honey.[5][6]
Resources aren't the whole story. Professional bees have special jobs. Farmer Bees harvest nearby crops, Collector Bees pick up items from the ground, Lumber Bees gather wood, Quarry Bees nibble on stone, sand or gravel, and Rancher Bees milk and shear nearby animals.[7][8][9][10][11][12]
Once you're deeper in, there's a genetics layer too. You can change bee attributes like productivity, weather tolerance, activity time, endurance and temper by putting isolated genes on a Honey Treat and feeding it to a bee.[13][14]
Where it fits in this pack
The pack gives Productive Bees its own quest chapter. One early quest, a quest in "?", asks for a Bee Cage, and it leads into a quest in "?" for the Nest Locator. The chapter also covers collecting nests, machines like the Bottler, Catcher and BaBee Incubator, and a long list of honeycomb quests.[15]
How do you get started with Productive Bees?
7 parts
Productive Bees builds straight on top of vanilla bees, so if you know how vanilla hives work you're already halfway there. On top of the bees you know, the mod adds a whole range of new bees living in well hidden nests across the overworld. Most of those are solitary bees, meaning they won't live in a hive at all, but their genetics let you breed them into other bee types.[2]
Step 1: find a vanilla bee nest
Your very first job is to track down a vanilla bee nest and get honey bottles and honeycombs out of it. Those two items unlock basically everything else early on, so don't wander off to the Nether before you have a stack of comb.[2]
Step 2: Bee Cages
The honey bottles go straight into Bee Cage, which is the single most important early item. Right click a bee with a cage to catch it, and right click the filled cage on the ground to let it out again. Always keep a few spare cages on you when you travel, because you never know which bee you'll bump into. The pack's quest book agrees: the bee cage is the first thing it asks you for.[16][17]

Step 3: Nest Locator
Next on the quest line is the Nest Locator, and it saves you hours of aimless flying. Shift right click it on a nest, or on a block of the type the nest is made from, then right click again to hone in on nearby nests of that type. Want a sand nest? Point it at sand. Note that this pack changed the locator's recipe from the mod default, so check the recipe below rather than an old tutorial.[17][18][19]

Step 4: Honey Treats
Honey Treat is the other early staple. Feed one to an angry bee to calm it down, or to a baby bee to make it grow up faster. Later they become the carrier for genes when you start transferring attributes between bees. In the quest chapter, the honey treat is the gateway that opens up most of the comb quests, so make a pile of them.[17][20]
Step 5: Advanced hive and expansion box
Once you've collected enough honeycombs, build an advanced beehive and an expansion box. The advanced hive has a GUI so you can see which bees are inside and pull out what they've made, it doesn't need a campfire to harvest, and you can break and move it with the bees still inside without silk touch. The expansion box raises the hive's bee capacity from 3 to 5 and lets you install upgrades; each hive takes one box, placed on top of or next to it.[2][22][23]
This matters because most bees only produce their resource combs in an advanced hive, not a vanilla one. Hive bees in particular have to live in advanced hives to make resource combs.[5]
Step 6: Centrifuge
Combs are useless sitting in a chest. A Centrifuge processes resource combs into resources and honey, holds 10 buckets of liquid that can be pumped out, and automatically pushes fluid into any fluid storage block placed next to it. The quest for this step accepts the basic centrifuge, the Powered Centrifuge or the Heated Centrifuge, so start with whichever you can afford.[6][17]

Where to go next
With cages, a locator, treats, an advanced hive and a centrifuge you have a working loop. From there the quest chapter branches into the Bottler, Catcher, BaBee Incubator, Gene Indexer and Bee Jar, plus a long tail of comb quests. Some bees only exist in other dimensions or through breeding, so use JEI to look up the breeding recipes and flower requirements and work out which parents you need to find.[2][5][17]
How does Productive Bees work?
9 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Productive Bees builds on vanilla bees, and almost everything runs on one loop. Bees live in advanced hives and bring back resource combs, and you process those combs in machines. Upgrades, genetics and professional bees all plug into that loop, so once you understand it the rest falls into place.[2][5][24]
Advanced hives and expansion boxes
The advanced hive is your main building block. Unlike a vanilla hive, it doesn't need a campfire nearby to be harvested. You can also break it and move it with the bees still inside, no silk touch needed. Its GUI shows which bees are inside and lets you take out whatever they've produced.[22]
Put empty Bee Cages into the hive to pull bees out, or put filled cages in to add bees. That makes it easy to reshuffle your apiary without chasing bees around.[25]

Attach an expansion box to raise the hive's bee capacity from 3 to 5 and unlock upgrade slots. The box goes on top of the hive or next to it, and each hive can only have one. Wood types get their own boxes, like the Birch Expansion Box, and there are canvas versions too, such as the Canvas Expansion Box.[22][23][26]

Other wood types have matching expansion boxes.
Combs and the Centrifuge
The Centrifuge turns resource combs into resources and honey. It holds 10 buckets of liquid, which you can pump out, and it automatically pushes fluid into any fluid storage block placed next to it. The Powered Centrifuge runs on FE for faster processing, and a Speed upgrade also makes a centrifuge work faster.[6][24][27]

This pack has a second recipe for the same Centrifuge.
For easier storage, you can compress combs into comb blocks and craft them back later. For example, Milky Comb compresses into Milky Comb Block. A hive upgrade can also make bees produce comb blocks directly instead of single honeycombs.[24][25][26][27]

Fluids: Bottler and Honey Generator
The Bottler bottles honey and other fluids. You can pump honey into its side, or place it next to a centrifuge so it fills automatically.[28]

The Honey Generator burns honey to make power. You can pipe honey in, or add honey bottles, blocks and buckets through its GUI. It accepts two upgrades: Productivity lowers its honey use and Speed makes it run faster.[29]
Upgrades
Upgrades go into machines and hives to add features or boost performance. A hive needs an expansion box before it can take upgrades. To install an upgrade, sneak and right-click the block with it.[22][25][27]
- Productivity: bees make more combs per trip. You can stack several in one hive.[27]
- Speed: bees spend less time inside the hive. In a centrifuge or incubator, it speeds up the machine instead.[27]
- BaBee: bees in the hive get a small chance to produce offspring every time honey is delivered, based on which bees are present. It doesn't work with bees that can't breed among themselves. In a Catcher, it makes the Catcher catch only BaBees.[25][27]
- Filter: right-click bees to add them to the filter, and put it in a crafting grid to clear it. In a hive, only filtered bees may enter. In a Catcher, only filtered bees get picked up.[25][27]
- Range: raises the operating range of Farmer and Collector or Hoarder bees by 1 per upgrade, from the default of 4. In a Catcher, it expands the area by 1 block in all directions. You can install several.[27]
- Anti-teleport: bees that can teleport stop doing so while they live in that hive.[25][27]
- Gene sampler: slowly extracts genes from visiting bees without hurting them. More upgrades in the same hive improve the rate.[25][27]
- Comb block: bees produce full comb blocks instead of honeycombs.[25][27]
- Simulator: bees no longer leave the hive. Their flower trip is simulated for better server performance.[27]
Feeding slabs
A Feeding Slab is a central feeding spot that holds 3 item blocks. When Lumber or Quarry bees feed from it, they produce from a random item in the feeder. A simulated hive only has 1 flower block position, so a feeding slab lets you have up to 3 different bees working in that hive. You can also honeylog the slab, which gives your bees regeneration.[25][30]
Catching and breeding bees
The Catcher catches any bee flying over it, as long as you load it with cages. Put a flower or feeding slab on top to attract bees. It takes the BaBee, Filter and Range upgrades.[31]
The Breeding Chamber breeds bees in a safe environment. Supply it with the two parent bees, their breeding items, power and empty cages for the offspring. Speed upgrades make it faster. To change which offspring you get, remove a cage and put it back.[25][32]

The Incubator speeds up growing baby bees. Put the BaBee in a cage and insert it with some honey treats. It can also infuse an egg with a bee type gene to make a spawn egg of that bee. Only the type gene is used, so any other genes on the honey treat are lost.[33]
Genetics
Bees carry attributes you can move between them: productivity, weather tolerance, day or night behaviour, endurance and temper. Some bees also apply effects to nearby players.[13]
- Set up the Bottler with a piston, place a bee in the middle and pull the lever. Make sure the Bottler has empty bottles inside.[28][34]
- Put the bottled bee into a Centrifuge to separate the genes from the junk. A gene sampler upgrade in a hive is another way to collect genes.[6][27][34]
- Combine a gene with a honey treat and feed the treat to a bee. The bee has a chance to gain the attribute, based on the gene's purity.[13][14]
- Raise purity by combining two of the same gene, or by putting more of the same gene onto a treat.[14]
If you have piles of genes, the Gene Indexer combines them automatically. Fill it up and give it a redstone signal. The guide admits it might not be the most efficient way to do it, but it's hands-off.[25][35]
Professional bees and farm automation
Some bees do jobs instead of making combs. The Farmer Bee harvests crops within a 4 block radius of its hive and leaves the produce on the ground. Range upgrades increase that radius. Collector and Hoarder Bees pick up items from the ground and store them in their hive, so pairing them with a Farmer Bee gives you an automated farm.[7][8][9][27][36]
Lumber Bees nibble nearby wood and Quarry Bees nibble stone, sand or gravel, both storing the results in their hive. Quarry Bees produce stone chips that craft into the matching block. Rancher Bees milk nearby cows, sheep or llamas into milky combs and also shear sheep.[10][11][12]
Keeping it lag-friendly
Bees are entities, and their pathing and AI can be heavy. Give every bee a home and its required flower block, and keep enclosures from getting too big, or the bees will wander off. A simulator upgrade removes the bee entities from the world entirely. If you run lots of centrifuges, consider turning off comb rendering in the mod's client config.[37]
How do you progress through Productive Bees?
5 parts
Bee progression in this pack is laid out as its own quest chapter, and it moves in clear stages: catch your first bee, build the small workshop that processes combs, farm the nests that hold the wild and solitary bees, then climb the comb and breeding ladders into the cross-mod bees other mods pay off.[17][19]
Tier 1: cage and locator
The chapter opens with the Bee Cage quest, and the Nest Locator quest unlocks straight after it. That is the whole entry fee: something to carry bees in, and something to find their nests with.[17]

The Nest Locator recipe is one the pack edited, so check the in-pack version above rather than anything you remember from other packs.[19]
Tier 2: the core workshop
Once the intro is done, a fan of quests unlocks together rather than in a line, so you can build this tier in whatever order suits you.[17]
- a quest in "?" asks for a Centrifuge, Powered Centrifuge or Heated Centrifuge, the machine that turns resource combs into resources and honey.[6][17]
- a quest in "?" wants a Honey Treat, which is the key that opens the entire comb half of the chapter.[17]
- a quest in "?" wants the BaBee Incubator, used to speed up BaBees and to turn a bee type gene into a spawn egg.[17][33]
- a quest in "?" wants the Gene Indexer, which automates combining the genes you collect.[17][35]
- a quest in "?" wants the Bottler for honey and other fluids, and for bottling bees as part of the genetics setup.[17][28]
- a quest in "?" wants the Catcher, which catches any bee flying over it if it is loaded with cages.[17][31]
- a quest in "?" wants a Bee Jar for displaying a bee, and a quest in "?" wants your first Honeycomb.[17][38]

Tier 3: nests, sorted by sword
A second branch of the chapter is one quest per solitary nest, all unlocking from the same node. Solitary bees spawn from nests in the overworld, while wild bees live mainly in nests in the Nether and the End, so this branch is effectively your dimension checklist.[3][4][17]
- Wooden sword tier: the six wood nests of a quest in "?" plus Dirt Nest, Sand Nest, Gravel Nest and even Glowstone Nest.[17][19]
- Iron sword tier: Nether Brick Nest, Quartz Nest and End Stone Nest, which line up with Magmatic, Crystalline and Ender Bees respectively.[19][39][40][41]
- Diamond sword tier: Obsidian Nest and Nether Gold Nest.[19]

Tier 4: comb chains and breeding
After the Honey Treat quest the chapter widens into dozens of comb quests, and several of them are genuinely chained: later combs are locked behind two earlier ones at a time, converging on a quest in "?" at the end of the line. Hive bees have to live in advanced hives to produce resource combs, and most of them are bred from solitary bees and other hive bees.[5][17]
- Redstone Bee comes from a Glowing Bee and a Chocolate Mining Bee.[42]
- Lapis Bee comes from a Redstone Bee and a Blue Banded Bee.[43]
- Diamond Bee comes from an Ender Bee and a Lapis Bee.[44]
- Emerald Bee comes from a Slimy Bee and a Diamond Bee, and Experience Bee from an Emerald Bee and a Lapis Bee.[45][46]
- Ancient Bee is converted from a Diamond Bee by feeding it a block of netherite.[47]
Tier 5: cross-mod bees
The top of the tree is bees unlocked through other mods' machines, which is why bee progression tracks your overall pack progress. The pack includes a full Mystical Agriculture ladder from Inferium through Prudentium, Tertium, Imperium, Supremium and Insanium to an Awakened Supremium bee made in the awakening altar, plus AE2 transform bees, Modern Industrialization centrifuge and electrolyzer bees, an Ars Nouveau enchanting apparatus bee, an Iron's Spellbooks bee made from a Diamond Bee, and reactor-material bees made by item conversion.[19]
Bees also show up outside their own chapter: the PneumaticCraft chapter has two honeycomb quests, the Bumblezone chapter asks for a Comb Block, and the Mystical Agriculture chapter asks for a configurable bee spawn egg.[48][49][50]
How does Productive Bees work with other mods?
3 parts
Productive Bees is one of the most deeply wired mods in the pack. Almost every other tech and magic mod here has a bee and a comb attached to it, and the centrifuge is the bridge: it processes resource combs into resources and honey, with the Powered Centrifuge taking FE to run faster.[6][19]
Combs that feed other mods
Running combs through a centrifuge always leaves you some Wax plus the material the comb is named for. Here is what the pack's comb recipes hand you, grouped by the mod they belong to.[19]
- Applied Energistics 2: the fluix comb gives Fluix Crystal.[19]
- All The Ores: alloy combs give brass, bronze, constantan, electrum, enderium, invar, lumium, signalum and steel nuggets, gem combs give Cinnabar, Fluorite, Peridot, Ruby and Sapphire, and the raw material combs cover aluminum, lead, nickel, osmium, platinum, silver, tin, uranium, zinc and Iridium Nugget, plus Sulfur from the sulfur comb.[19]
- Mystical Agriculture: combs for Inferium Essence, Prudentium Essence, Tertium Essence, Imperium Essence, Supremium Essence, Awakened Supremium Essence, Insanium Essence, Prosperity Shard and Soulium Dust.[19]
- Powah: combs for Blazing Crystal, Niotic Crystal, Spirited Crystal, Nitro Crystal, Energized Steel and Raw Uraninite.[19]
- Just Dire Things: combs for Raw Ferricore, Raw Blazegold, Raw Eclipse Alloy and Celestigem.[19]
- Modern Industrialization: combs for Raw Antimony, Raw Tungsten and tiny dusts of beryllium, chromium, manganese and monazite.[19]
- All The Modium and All The Tweaks: combs for Allthemodium Nugget, Vibranium Nugget, Unobtainium Nugget and even Patrick Star.[19]
- Magic and misc: the arcane comb gives Source Gem, another gives Arcane Essence, the dark gem comb gives Dark Gem and Crushed Dark Gem, the menril comb gives Crystallized Menril Chunk, the ender comb gives Ender Pearl, and the obsidian comb gives Mekanism's Obsidian Dust.[19]
Getting the cross-mod bees
Most of these bees are made by handing another mod's signature item or block to a configurable bee. The conversions below are the ones the pack ships for the big mods.[5][19]

Blocks and quest items
- Regions Unexplored wood gets its own expansion boxes, so you can match your advanced hives to baobab, blackwood, blue bioshroom, cobalt, cypress, dead or eucalyptus planks.[19]
- All The Compressed accepts Wax Block, compressing it into Wax Block 1x and back again, which is handy once a big bee farm starts drowning you in wax.[19]
- Bees show up in the endgame too: the pack's Dragon Soul recipe calls for a configurable bee and an Inactive Dragon Egg alongside items from several other mods.[19]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Productive Bees?
6 parts
Most of the Productive Bees questing lives in its own "productive_bees" chapter. A few other chapters also ask for the mod's items. The quests in the pack have no titles, so I describe each one by what it asks you to hand in.[17][48][49][50]
Getting started: cage and locator
The first quest in the chain asks for a Bee Cage (a quest in "?"). It unlocks a quest in "?", which asks for a Nest Locator. The Bee Cage quest follows an earlier quest that the sources do not show.[17]
Core machines and tools
The next group of quests opens up from one shared earlier quest that the sources don't describe. You can do them in any order:[17]
- a quest in "?" asks for a Honey Treat.[17]
- a quest in "?" asks for a Bee Jar.[17]
- a quest in "?" accepts a Centrifuge, a Powered Centrifuge or a Heated Centrifuge.[17]
- a quest in "?" asks for the BaBee Incubator.[17]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Gene Indexer.[17]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Bottler.[17]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Catcher.[17]
- a quest in "?" asks for a Honeycomb.[17]
Honey Treat branch
Once the Honey Treat quest is done, several quests open. a quest in "?" wants Sugarbag Honeycomb and a quest in "?" wants Ghostly Comb. a quest in "?" asks for a Treat on a Stick plus a saddle. a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?" each ask for a Honeycomb. So does a quest in "?", which leads further down the chain.[17]
Nest quests
A separate set of quests, all following the same earlier quest, covers the bee nests. a quest in "?" has a task for each wood nest: Oak Nest, Dark Oak Nest, Jungle Nest, Spruce Nest, Birch Nest and Acacia Nest. The others ask for one nest each:[17]
- Overworld nests: Stone Nest (a quest in "?"), Dirt Nest (a quest in "?"), Sand Nest (a quest in "?"), Gravel Nest (a quest in "?"), Snow Nest (a quest in "?"), Reed Nest (a quest in "?") and Slimy Nest (a quest in "?").[17]
- Nether nests: Soul Sand Nest (a quest in "?"), Nether Gold Nest (a quest in "?"), Nether Brick Nest (a quest in "?"), Quartz Nest (a quest in "?") and Glowstone Nest (a quest in "?").[17]
- End Stone Nest (a quest in "?") and Obsidian Nest (a quest in "?").[17]
The comb quests
Most of the chapter is comb collecting. A large batch of quests hangs off one earlier quest, and nearly all of them ask for a Honeycomb. The exceptions are a quest in "?", which wants Powdery Comb, and a quest in "?", which wants Milky Comb. a quest in "?" and a quest in "?" also ask for a Honeycomb but follow a different earlier quest. a quest in "?" follows the Honeycomb quest from the machine group.[17]
The later quests chain together. a quest in "?" follows a quest in "?", and a quest in "?" follows that one. a quest in "?" needs both a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". After it come a quest in "?" and a quest in "?", and the latter also needs a quest in "?". a quest in "?" needs a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". a quest in "?" needs a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". The last quest in these sources is a quest in "?", which needs both a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[17]
Unverified The quests only list the generic Honeycomb item as their task. The sources don't say which specific comb or bee type each one expects, so check the in-game quest book before you hunt for a particular bee.
Quests in other chapters
- The "pneumaticcraft" chapter has a quest in "?" and a quest in "?", which each ask for a Honeycomb.[48]
- The "bumblezone" chapter has a quest in "?", which asks for a Comb Block.[49]
- The "elmystical_agriculturerr" chapter has a quest in "?", which asks for Spawn Egg Configurable Bee.[50]
