What is ModularBees?
3 parts
ModularBees is a bee mod built around two customizable multiblocks: the Modular Beehive, which produces combs and honey, and the Modular Centrifuge, which processes those combs. If you like automating bees and building machines you can tune with upgrade parts, this mod is for you. This pack includes version 1.21.1-3.4-neoforge, and it has been in the pack since 4.12 or earlier.[1][2][3]
Modular Beehive
The Modular Beehive Core is the controller of a 3x3x3 cube structure. You can swap any Beehive Structure Box for a functional part to improve the hive. Shared blocks aren't allowed.[3]
Bees in this hive don't breed or do in-world transformation recipes, which saves performance. Instead they produce combs and honey at incredible speed once you add upgrades. The hive has a built-in simulate upgrade, so the bees never leave it.[3]
The core can't hold bees, so you also need an Alveary. Each Alveary holds 5 bees, and you load them with bee cages. Bees in the hive only look for flowers in a Modular Feeder. There is also a Modular Dragon Hive for collecting dragon breath from draconic bees.[3][4][5][6]
Modular Centrifuge
The Modular Centrifuge Core is a 3x3x3 structure with 4 corners on the bottom layer. Like the hive, you replace Centrifuge Structure Boxes with functional parts, and shared blocks aren't allowed. It supports all centrifuge upgrades, and its base process time matches the basic centrifuge at 15 seconds.[7]
Import and export hatches let you automate it with chests and tanks. The Import Hatch pulls combs from its facing chest or tank. The Export Hatch sends items and fluids out to its facing chest or tank.[8][9]
Extras
The mod also adds misc bee machines, including a Bee Extractor, which is a modified bottler that extracts genes from a bee into a bottle. The in-game Book of Modular Bees is the place to start if you want to learn the designs.[10][11][12]
Unverified Where the mod fits in this pack's progression is unconfirmed. The available information doesn't show it on the ATM Star path, and no quests involve it.
How do you get started with ModularBees?
6 parts
The heart of this mod is the Modular Beehive, the controller of a 3x3x3 multiblock hive. Bees inside it don't breed or do in-world transformation recipes, which saves performance. Instead, they produce combs and honey at incredible speed once you add upgrades. Here's the order I'd build things in.[3]
Step 1: Scented Plank
Start with the Scented Plank. Both the hive core recipe and the structure box recipe in this pack use it, so it's the first thing to craft. The recipe is added by the pack.[13]

Step 2: Beehive Structure Box
The Beehive Structure Box is the building block of the hive, and its recipe is also added by the pack. You'll need it again for the Alveary, Feeder, Export Hatch, Overclocker, Treater and Stacker.[13]

Step 3: The Modular Beehive core
Now craft the Modular Beehive, another recipe added by the pack. Build the 3x3x3 cube around it with Structure Boxes. Later you can swap any Structure Box for a functional part. Modular Beehives don't allow shared blocks, so give each hive its own boxes.[3][13]

Step 4: Somewhere for the bees to live
The core can't hold bees itself, so you need the Modular Alveary. Each Alveary holds 5 bees. Use bee cages to put bees in, and you can right-click the Alveary with a cage to insert or extract them. The pack adds its own recipe for it.[4][13]

Step 5: Feeder and export
Bees in a Modular Beehive only look for flowers in the Modular Feeder, which holds 9 types of flowers. If a bee needs a fluid flower, put in a bucket or tank with that fluid.[5]

To stop emptying the hive by hand, add a Beehive Export Hatch. It acts as a proxy of the core and automatically sends products and honey to the chest or tank it faces.[14]

Step 6: Speed it up
Once the basics run, the Beehive Overclocker makes your bees work faster. It needs energy and an electrode, and better electrodes give a bigger boost. Multiple overclockers add together.[15]
Shaped (kubejs)
Recipe id: allthemods:modularbees/modular_beehive_overclocker
The electrode chain in this pack goes Copper Electrode, then Iron Electrode, then Gold Electrode, then Netherite Electrode. Each step after copper uses the previous electrode. The pack added the first three recipes and changed the Netherite one.[13]
For more output, the Beehive Treater feeds your bees extra food for more combs, and the Beehive Stacker raises the output inventory's max stack size. Both stack additively when you use several.[16][17]
How does ModularBees work?
9 parts
ModularBees has a Modular Beehive for bee products and a Modular Centrifuge for processing combs. Both are 3x3x3 structures, and both work the same way. You start with a controller, then swap the plain structure blocks for functional parts that add speed, output, logistics and more.[3][7]
Modular Beehive
The Modular Beehive Core is the controller of a 3x3x3 cube. You can replace any Beehive Structure Box with a functional part to improve the hive. Hives can't share blocks.[3]
The hive has a built-in simulate upgrade, so bees won't come out of it. Inside the hive, bees won't breed or do in-world transformation recipes, which saves performance. Instead they produce combs and honey very quickly once you add upgrades.[3]
Housing bees: the Alveary
The core can't hold bees itself, so you house them in a Modular Alveary. Each Alveary holds 5 bees. You move bees in and out with bee cages, and you can right-click the Alveary with a cage to insert or extract bees. The pack adds its own recipe for the Alveary.[4][13]

Bees in the hive only look for flowers in a Modular Feeder, which holds 9 types of flowers. If a bee needs a fluid flower, put a bucket or a tank with the right fluid in the feeder.[5]
Beehive upgrades
The Beehive Overclocker makes your bees produce faster. It needs energy and an electrode to work, and a better electrode gives a bigger speed boost. Several overclockers stack additively. The guide's example is that two Netherite Electrodes at +400% each give +800%, which it describes as x9 speed.[15][18]
Electrodes take more damage the more bees are in the hive. The guide gives the formula floor[(x/15+1)*(1.03^x)], where x is the number of bees. There are four electrode tiers, and you can see their boosts in JEI or the tooltip. This pack adds its own recipes for the copper, iron and gold electrodes, and each tier is built from the one below it.[13][15]

The Beehive Treater feeds your bees extra food so they produce more combs. Multiple treaters add together, and JEI lists the valid foods and their boosts. Unlike the overclocker, it only uses food when bees finish collecting nectar. Every bee needs food, though, and the boost weakens if there isn't enough to feed them all. Leftovers go to the output inventory.[17]

Modular Dragon Hive
The Modular Dragon Hive is a special hive for collecting dragon breath from draconic bees.[6]
Modular Centrifuge
The Modular Centrifuge controls a 3x3x3 structure with 4 corners on the bottom layer. As with the hive, you can swap any structure block for a functional part, and two centrifuges can't share blocks. The structure block item is the Centrifuge Structure Wall.[7][13]

- Centrifuge Gearbox: increases parallel by 1.5 and needs wax to work. Multiple gearboxes add together, and each one needs 40 wax every work cycle.[19]
- Centrifuge Heater: makes the centrifuge work like a Heated Centrifuge, so it can process comb blocks and destroys all wax. You can install only one heater per centrifuge. It needs power and makes the centrifuge 3 times faster. While a heater is installed, the centrifuge only works when the heater is powered.[20]
- Centrifuge Overclocker: needs energy and an electrode, and a better electrode gives a bigger speed boost. Multiple overclockers add together. Electrodes always lose 1 durability on every work tick, unlike the beehive version, which scales with bee count.[15][21]

How do you progress through ModularBees?
7 parts
Every main machine in ModularBees is a multiblock, so progression here follows the crafting chain: base materials first, then the controller, then the upgrade parts, then the logistics.[3][7]
Unverified The sources here do not show any quest order for this mod. If you want to know where it sits in the progression, check the pack's quest book.
Stage 1: Base materials
Everything starts with the Scented Plank. The pack adds this recipe, and the plank feeds into the Beehive Structure Box, the Beehive Structure Box you swap for functional parts.[3][13]

Electrode tiers
Overclockers run on electrodes, and there are four tiers: Copper Electrode, Iron Electrode, Gold Electrode and Netherite Electrode. Better electrodes give a higher speed boost, and you can see the exact numbers in JEI or the tooltip. Overclocker boosts are additive. The in-game guide's example is that two Netherite Electrodes (+400%) make bees work x9 (+800%) faster.[13][15]
In this pack the copper, iron and gold electrode recipes are added by the pack, and from iron upward each tier is made from the one below it. The netherite electrode is a smithing recipe that the pack changed, and it builds on the gold electrode.[13]

How does ModularBees work with other mods?
4 parts
ModularBees is really an add-on to the Productive Bees family, so most of its crafting ties into Productive Bees and Productive Lib items. This pack also rewrites a few recipes with its own scripts. Here is how it all connects.[13]
Pack-added recipes for the Modular Beehive
The pack adds its own recipes for core pieces of the Modular Beehive. The Modular Beehive needs Productive Lib's Upgrade Adult and Upgrade Productivity 4, plus any unobtainium ingot.[13]

Other Productive Bees and Productive Lib links
- The Modular Dragon Hive is built from a Beehive Structure Box and Productive Bees' Dragon Egg Hive. It collects dragon breath from draconic bees.[6][13]
- The Bee Extractor is a modified Bottler. Its recipe is shown below.[11][13]
- Vanilla Piston and Sticky Piston are part of the Bee Extractor's crafting too.[13]
- The Beehive Stacker links to Productive Lib through the Upgrade Block.[13]
- The Ender Treat mixes ModularBees, vanilla and Productive Bees items: Dragon Breath and Draconic Chunk both feature in it.[13]
- The Royal Treat is where Productive Bees' Honey Treat comes in.[13]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use ModularBees?
2 parts
The only quest in the sources that mentions Modular Bees is in the Industrial Foregoing chapter. It is a machine-automation quest that uses Modular Bees as its example, so it is not a bee-progression quest. It still shows how to feed the brewer for Royal Treats.[22]
Where it sits in the chapter
The quest is "Automating the Potion Brewer" quest. It comes right after a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", which asks for the Potion Brewer. Getting there follows this route through the chapter:[22]
- Start with a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", which is the main resource of Industrial Foregoing.[22]
- Next comes a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", followed by "Simple Machine Frame" quest.[22]
- Then "Advanced Machine Frame" quest, which also needs "Pink Slime \& Liquid Meat" quest.[22]
- After that, a quest in "Industrial Foregoing".[22]
- Finally, "Automating the Potion Brewer" quest.[22]
What the quest asks for
It focuses on using AE2 to automate the Potion Brewer, and it asks you to hand in an Advanced Pattern Encoder and an ME Export Bus, plus two more items that the book does not name. Its example is brewing a Potion of Healing, aimed at Royal Treats for Modular Bees.[22]
- Fill the brewer with Water and Blaze Powder using an Export Bus or an Interface. The Blaze Powder is the fuel.[22]
- Do not provide bottles yet, or they will fill your network with Water Bottles.[22]
- Get an Advanced Pattern Provider and encode your pattern with the Advanced Pattern Encoder.[22]
- Use the provider's ability to send items to a specific side, so the Glass Bottles go to the top side of the machine.[22]
- Enable Filtered Import on the Advanced Provider. It then only accepts items that match currently active crafting jobs, so it won't accept potions prematurely.[22]
- Configure the sides of the Potion Brewer as the quest shows. You can add Processing Addons for big crafting jobs and optionally place a Transfer Label between the provider and the brewer.[22]
