What is Pocket Storage?

1 part

Pocket Storage is part of All the Mods 10 4.5, which ships version 1.2.4+1.21.1-b40 of the mod. It has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier, so it's been part of the lineup for a good while.[1]

The items the questbook asks you for are Pocket Storage Units, which come in tiers. You'll run into two of them: Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1 and Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4.[2]

Where it shows up in the quests

Pocket Storage appears in the quest chapter with the internal id chapter_2_the_star. The quest a quest in "?" asks you for a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1. Once that's done, it unlocks a quest in "?", which asks for a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4. That gives you a clear goal to work toward, from the entry unit up to a higher tier.[2]

Unverified What a Pocket Storage Unit stores, how much each tier holds, and how the tiers are crafted or upgraded could not be confirmed from the pack files, so this overview doesn't cover those details.

How do you get started with Pocket Storage?

2 parts

Pocket Storage gives you portable storage units that hold several different item types. When you pick up an item that matches something already stored, the unit absorbs it automatically. Anything beyond the unit's limit is voided, which makes these units great for keeping your inventory clear of the blocks you mine most.[3]

Your first unit

Start by making Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1. It's a normal shaped crafting recipe, so you can build it at a crafting table early in your run. The pack also has a quest, a quest in "?", that asks for this exact item, so crafting it moves your questline forward too.[2][4]

The entry-level unit, and the start of the whole upgrade path.

Watch out: These units void any excess of the items they absorb. Once a unit is full of a given item, more of that item picked up is destroyed, not dropped into your inventory. Keep that in mind before you let a unit absorb anything valuable.[3]

Upgrading through the tiers

You don't craft the higher tiers from scratch. Each one uses an upgrade recipe that turns your current unit into the next one. Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1 becomes Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 2, that becomes Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 3, and that becomes Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4. Follow the chain in order.[4]

The top tier. Its recipe needs late-game materials, so plan ahead.

The questline follows the same path. After you finish a quest in "?", the pack's follow-up quest a quest in "?" asks for Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4. That makes the final unit a longer-term goal and not something to rush.[2]

Unverified The exact capacity of each tier (how many different items it holds and how many of each) could not be confirmed. The in-game tooltip fills these values in at runtime. It is also unconfirmed whether upgrading a unit keeps the items stored inside it, so empty your unit first to be safe.

How does Pocket Storage work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Pocket Storage is built around one item: the Pocket Storage Unit, a portable storage item that comes in four tiers, from Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1 up to Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4. There are no machines, multiblocks or power systems here. It's all about what the unit does while it sits in your inventory.[3][5]

How storage works

Every tier works the same way. A unit holds a set number of different item types, and it can store up to a set amount of each type. The tooltip shows both limits for the unit you're holding, so check it when you pick one up.[3]

Unverified The exact number of item types and the per-item limit for each tier could not be confirmed. The tooltip fills them in from values that aren't in the available sources. Check the in-game tooltip for the real numbers.

Auto-pickup and voiding

This is the unit's key trick. When you pick up items that match what's stored in it, the unit absorbs them automatically. That keeps your main inventory free of the blocks and drops you collect most while mining or building.[3]

Watch out: Pay attention to the limits. Once a stored item hits its cap, any extra of that item you pick up is voided and deleted for good. That's great for junk like cobblestone, but don't let a unit fill up on anything you actually want to keep.[3]

Tier progression

You craft Tier 1 with a normal shaped recipe. You don't craft Tiers 2, 3 and 4 from scratch. Each one uses a special upgrade recipe that takes the previous tier's unit as one of its inputs. So you climb the tiers by upgrading the unit you already have.[5]

Unverified It could not be confirmed whether items stored in a unit carry over when you upgrade it to the next tier. Empty it first if you're not sure. It's also unconfirmed how you get items back out, or whether hoppers, pipes or other automation can interact with the units.

How do you progress through Pocket Storage?

3 parts

Pocket Storage has four tiers of storage unit, and every tier after the first is made by upgrading the one below it. You start with a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1, upgrade it into a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 2, then a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 3, and finally a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4.[4]

Quests

The pack's quest book has two quests for this mod. The first, a quest in "?", asks you to get a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1. Once it's done, a quest in "?" opens up and asks for the top-tier Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4. There are no quests for the middle two tiers, so you'll work through them on your own between those two goals.[2]

Starting tier

The Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1 is a normal shaped crafting recipe using early-game materials. This is the only tier you craft from scratch.[4]

Upgrading through the tiers

Tiers two to four each use the mod's own upgrade recipe type. You put the previous unit into the recipe along with the other materials, so hold on to your old unit rather than crafting a new one from nothing.[4]

  1. Upgrade your Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1 into a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 2.[4]
  2. Upgrade the Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 2 into a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 3.[4]
  3. Upgrade the Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 3 into a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4, which also completes the second quest.[2][4]

The final tier needs a late-game material, so plan for it.

Tip: Each upgrade takes the previous tier as an ingredient, so the whole path is one unit that you keep improving. Collect the materials for the next tier before you upgrade.[4]

Unverified How much each tier holds, and whether stored items stay inside the unit when you upgrade it, could not be confirmed for this pack. Test with low-value items before you upgrade a full unit.

How does Pocket Storage work with other mods?

2 parts

Pocket Storage has a small but important link to the rest of this pack. The Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4 is one of the components of a crafting recipe the pack adds itself. That recipe pulls in items from many other mods, so your storage unit becomes part of a much bigger crafting goal.[4]

The Pulsating Black Hole

The pack added a shaped crafting recipe for the Pulsating Black Hole, and the Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4 is one of its components. The other components come from several different mods. These include the ME Quantum Ring, the Stable Wormhole, the Manhattan Module and the Paradox Machine. So if you're working toward the Pulsating Black Hole, you'll need to take Pocket Storage all the way to its Tier 4 unit.[4]

Quests

The pack's questbook tracks your progress through the storage units in two quests. a quest in "?" asks for a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1. a quest in "?" asks for a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4, and it only unlocks after you finish the first quest. Both quests sit in the same chapter, so they give you a clear path from your first pocket storage unit to the one the Pulsating Black Hole recipe needs.[2]

Tip: Rush the Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4 early if you're planning to make the Pulsating Black Hole. It completes a quest and is also one of that recipe's components.[2][4]

Unverified The sources don't confirm how the Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4 is crafted in this pack. They also don't show any direct connections between Pocket Storage and other storage or automation mods, such as piping items into or out of a unit.

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Pocket Storage?

1 part

Pocket Storage shows up in the pack's quest book in the chapter with the internal name chapter_2_the_star. Its quests form a short chain built around the Pocket Storage Unit tiers. Both quests are untitled in the quest files, so look for them by their icons and tasks.[2]

Quest order

  1. Start with a quest in "?". Its task asks you to obtain a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1, the entry-level unit.[2]
  2. Next is a quest in "?", which unlocks after a quest in "?". Its task asks for a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4.[2]
Tip: The quest files don't list the tiers in between as quest tasks. Only the first and the top unit are required, so you can plan your upgrades however you like as long as you end up holding a Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4.[2]

Unverified The quest rewards, and whether any other chapter includes Pocket Storage, couldn't be confirmed from the available quest data.
