What is Pocket Storage?

1 part

Pocket Storage is one of the storage mods in the pack. This pack ships version 1.2.5 of it, so everything in this guide is based on that version.[1]

The mod adds the Pocket Storage Unit in four tiers: Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1, Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 2, Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 3 and Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4.[2]

Where it fits in the progression

Pocket Storage shows up in the general_storage quest chapter. There, quest "Pocket Storage" quest is completed by obtaining any one of the four Pocket Storage Unit tiers, so you don't need to craft all of them to tick it off.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't explain what each tier does, how much each one stores, or how the units are crafted. Check the item tooltips in game before relying on any of that.

How do you get started with Pocket Storage?

3 parts

Pocket Storage gives you a storage item that comes in four tiers in this pack. You start by crafting the first tier, and the higher tiers are upgrades of that same item.[3]

Step 1: Craft a Tier 1 unit

Your first item is the Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1. It uses a shaped crafting recipe, shown below.[3]

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: pocketstorage:tier1

This is the starting point for every other tier of the unit.

Once you have one, check the tooltip. It says the unit holds a number of different items, up to a set amount of each. It also automatically absorbs like items on pickup.[4]

Watch out: The tooltip says the unit voids excess on pickup. Keep an eye on what you let it absorb, because extra items beyond what it can hold are voided.[4]

Step 2: Check the quest

The general_storage quest chapter has a quest for this: "Pocket Storage" quest. Its task is to have a Pocket Storage Unit, and any of the four tiers counts.[2]

Step 3: Upgrade as you progress

The higher tiers are not crafted from scratch. Each one uses an upgrade recipe that takes the previous tier's unit as an input, so keep your Tier 1 unit and build on it.[3]

  1. Tier 2 upgrades your first unit into the Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 2.[3]
  2. Tier 3 upgrades that into the Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 3.[3]
  3. Tier 4 upgrades the Tier 3 unit into the Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4.[3]

How does Pocket Storage work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Pocket Storage is built around one item: the Pocket Storage Unit, a portable storage item that comes in four tiers, from Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1 up to Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4. There are no machines, multiblocks or power systems here. It's all about what the unit does while it sits in your inventory.[5][6]

How storage works

Every tier works the same way. A unit holds a set number of different item types, and it can store up to a set amount of each type. The tooltip shows both limits for the unit you're holding, so check it when you pick one up.[5]

Unverified The exact number of item types and the per-item limit for each tier could not be confirmed. The tooltip fills them in from values that aren't in the available sources. Check the in-game tooltip for the real numbers.

Auto-pickup and voiding

This is the unit's key trick. When you pick up items that match what's stored in it, the unit absorbs them automatically. That keeps your main inventory free of the blocks and drops you collect most while mining or building.[5]

Watch out: Pay attention to the limits. Once a stored item hits its cap, any extra of that item you pick up is voided and deleted for good. That's great for junk like cobblestone, but don't let a unit fill up on anything you actually want to keep.[5]

Tier progression

You craft Tier 1 with a normal shaped recipe. You don't craft Tiers 2, 3 and 4 from scratch. Each one uses a special upgrade recipe that takes the previous tier's unit as one of its inputs. So you climb the tiers by upgrading the unit you already have.[6]

Unverified It could not be confirmed whether items stored in a unit carry over when you upgrade it to the next tier. Empty it first if you're not sure. It's also unconfirmed how you get items back out, or whether hoppers, pipes or other automation can interact with the units.

How do you progress through Pocket Storage?

3 parts

Pocket Storage has four tiers in this pack, and each one above the first is crafted from the tier below it. You start with Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1 and work up to Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4.[3]

The quest

The mod appears in the general_storage quest chapter as quest "Pocket Storage" quest. It has no title. Its task accepts any one of the four tiers, so the first tier is enough to complete it.[2]

Tier 1

Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1 is the entry point. It is a normal shaped crafting recipe, and it is the only tier you craft from scratch.[3]

Crafting Shaped

Tiers 2 to 4

The three higher tiers use the mod's own upgrade recipe type. Each one takes the unit from the tier right below it, so you can't skip a step. Every upgrade has a different material requirement, which the recipe blocks below show.[3]

  1. Craft Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 2 by upgrading a Tier 1 unit.[3]
  2. Craft Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 3 by upgrading a Tier 2 unit.[3]
  3. Craft Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4 by upgrading a Tier 3 unit.[3]

Tip: Because every upgrade consumes the previous tier, don't throw away or reuse a lower-tier unit if you plan to go higher. Keep it as the base for the next craft.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Pocket Storage?

Pocket Storage only shows up in one quest chapter in this pack: general_storage. There is a single quest there that involves the mod, so there's no long questline to follow.[2]

The quest is "Pocket Storage" quest, which has no title in the quest file. It's an item task, and it accepts any one of the four Pocket Storage Units: Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 1, Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 2, Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 3 or Pocket Storage Unit Tier: 4. Whichever tier you have is what the task asks for.[2]

Tip: Because the task takes any of the four tiers, the lowest tier, Pocket Storage Unit Tier 1, is enough to satisfy it.[2]

Unverified The quest's rewards, its dependencies and where it sits in the order of the general_storage chapter are not shown in the available quest data, so they are unverified.
